My husband and I were referred to Mid America Tax Planners by a good friend of ours who did his taxes with Ahmed this year. For the past few years I have been doing my own taxes because we lived and worked out of the country and all of our income was excluded by filling out one simple form in addition to the 1040. However, this year we had a complicated tax situation as I earned all of my money overseas last year while my husband had income from the States. Ahmed wanted to make sure he was familiar with all of the laws and restrictions related toincome earned in the country where we reside most of the year, so he researched our situation thoroughly while we were still overseas to fully understand our needs. Once we returned to the States for the summer, he sat with us in his office for 3 or 4 hours while he finalized all of the details on Federal, State, and City taxes. He found ways that we could benefit greatly this year by making a change in our filing status, which would create hardships for us in coming years. He did not just give us the easy answer, which would have been to tell us that he could get us a large refund this year and then leave us to find out next year what the repercussions would have been. Instead he was honest and together we decided that the refund now would not be worth the hassle later. He also helped us make plans for next year and beyond. Thank you for the great help.
