Really great place to train, Lots of mat time available, open everyday through out the week which helps with skill development. It has a Very welcoming atmosphere with a competitive nature with the overall goal in mind (progression). welcomes other visiting academies which provides a variety of skill sets that may not be seen around the gym. This place is welcoming just as it is game for those looking to test themselves.

This place is as good as they come! My son and I felt welcome the moment we walked in the door. There is a great sense of community here! The kids class is equally challenging and rewarding, my 8 year old son always looks forward to class. As an older adult just getting started I am welcomed and worked with by the upper belts. No ego, no gate keeping. Just good people helping each other improve. Dont hesitate to check it out.

This Jiu-Jitsu gym is of the highest quality and work. I have never left a google review but it occurred to me that this place deserves to flourish. The training and instruction is thorough, clear, and engaging. The atmosphere of the gym is open, friendly, and exciting. Whether you are someone looking to train seriously or simply get a workout in or learn for the first time, this is the place. I cannot recommend it highly enough, 6/5 stars.

Love this place and so thankful our kids and family have this supportive community! Our son and daughter have been going her for several years. Robert is amazing with the kids! He is not only an incredible BJJ instructor but encourages them in everything they do. Kids classes are offered Mon-Sat, so as our schedule changes with other sports, we can still get in.

I have a 6 year old girl and a 8 year old boy. They both love it! Robert is excellent with the kids and his teaching goes beyond BJJ. We’re taking a break at the moment due to Baseball but my kids can’t wait to get back. Great for full time and in between sports. You can’t walk in the place without feeling welcomed. Whether it’s Robert or Lindsey or a student, you are greeted with genuine kindness as soon as you walk through the door. Get your kids in there! Once you step foot in the class, parent or student your apart of a unique community that welcomes all. Oh and the kids learn how roll other kids up like play-Doh. Respectfully

This place has been a wonderful experience for my 6 year old boy! It has taught him how to win and most importantly how to lose. Not only has he learned a lot in the form of BJJ but has also matured a lot in his ability to follow instructions and show respect. I Highly recommend, it’s a great atmosphere!

My 5-year-old son and I have been taking classes at Olympia BJJ for about 8 months now. For me and my family, the environment that Robert has created is a very welcoming and humble one. The instructors are exceptional, and are great at teaching you real-life, practical self-defense skills in BJJ. There are many students from a law enforcement, fire fighter, EMT and armed forces background, which I find also helpful and appreciate as a USMC vet myself. However, there are also a lot of students, both younger and older, who come from all walks of life from tradesman, to banking, to college students. Robert is an excellent teacher for both adults and kids, and while I know that there is so much more to learn, I do feel that I have learned a lot in just a short amount of time from one of the best schools and instructors in the Pacific Northwest.

I have been training at BJJ Olympia with Robert for almost 4 years now, and if I could give them more than 5 stars I would. When you sign up to train at this gym not only do you receive quality training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, kickboxing, and MMA, but you also become a member of a close knit community. If you are in the area looking for a place to train, look no further, this gym is the place to be.

Olympia BJJ is an awesome school. The school not only teaches world class Jiu Jitsu it also teaches values and character that isn’t found most places these days. The instructor Robert is an excellent role model for the students and routinely gives one on on e instruction to students during class to ensure that they fully understand the techniques. Robert also teaches 95% of the children’s classes himself. The school has a very friendly and family type environment the is safe and clean.

BJJ of Olympia is a very welcoming and friendly gym. The quality of instruction is outstanding, the facilities are clean, and classes are ran well. Robert has created a warm yet hardworking environment. It’s an excellent place for your kids to learn BJJ and the respect and responsibility that comes with it. This carries over into the adult classes as well. If you are interested in kickboxing the coach Shilo is a very high level Dutch style kickboxer who makes all levels feel at home and comfortable. Hands down the best stand up coach I’ve ever had. I’ve trained in several gyms throughout the years and BJJ of Olympia is the one that truly feels like home. I highly recommend it.

This place is the perfect intersection of technique and family. You can learn jiu-jitsu anyway. Its on the internet and you can throw a rock and hit an academy. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu of Oly is by far one of the better gyms in the area for teaching younger children martial arts. My family and I went to three different gyms in the area where we tried a week trial period at each. My oldest, who had been studying jiu jitsu for a year at this point, never really felt at place within the other gyms. We came from a well known gym in Arizona so we had a standard for what we wanted from a gym and instructors. Rob was the only black belt in the area that showed he actually cared about instructing kids of all ages. The environment of the gym was inviting and allowed our kids to integrate easily with the class. Rob does a fantastic job teaching not only jiu jitsu but also life lessons along the way. Rob is the primary instructor and hell use his lower belts to assist with classes. This was a big deciding factor to allow our kids to continue training with him. The had black belt of a gym really helps to set the tone of the training environment. We couldnt be happier with our decision and our new jiu jitsu family.

BJJ of Oly is an amazing place to learn, train, and become a better version of yourself. My son has been attending classes with Robert and his team for nearly two years now and I cannot speak more highly of their efforts, competence and professionalism. As a member myself, I can honestly say that the sense of family and feeling of being a valuable part of the broader Jiu Jitsu community at large is unmatched in the area. This gym is full of big personalities and small egos. Time spent here is time well spent.

This place is amazing! Before coming here, Id never had experience in grappling so I was super nervous about checking it out. This school took me in and has provided a friendly and welcoming atmosphere ever since my first day. The head coach is very dedicated and takes time with each student as they need. There are many upper level belts, including 8 black belts, that are very knowledgeable and willing to help. With bjj classes and open mat every day, I have no problem with finding time to train most of the time. Ive been coming here for almost a year and its a shame I didnt find it sooner.

NW High Intensity Training Center and BJJ of Olympia is a great environment with super people. I appreciate that Robert Owens (gym owner) and the other instructors teach both the sport aspect as well as real-world defense applications. The skills and experience that the black belts and high belts bring to classes each day is amazing. And, they offer classes seven days a week and at different times which is makes it easy to fit a workout into different schedules.

I’ve been training here for just over a year now. I came in with no grappling experience and was welcomed with open arms. I was very lucky to have this as my first bjj gym: The culture here is all about helping each other and learning together. If you’re nervous about the up close and personal nature of bjj, fear not—your brain will be too preoccupied to care about anything but the task at hand. A typical session is equal parts humbling and joyful. I come as often as I can, with no end in sight. My two young children just started as well. Try it out, it might change your life.

Its my first day there, and I have to say it is one of the best MMA/BJJ gyms out there, at least as far as the ones Ive been to. Everyone is helpful and down to earth, the coaches are very knowledgable, and the techniques they teach are very practical and useful. Definitely a welcoming place to train, learn, and grow. The music is pretty great too, it has a forgotten ronin samurai vibe to it lol. Bonus points for the Jolly Roger flag hanging above the gym!

I have zero experience in combat sports, yet, in my 6 months of training at BJJ Olympia, I have (unsurprisingly) grown into somewhat of a grappler. I actually enjoy getting submitted 99% of the time, because in each instance, I’m faced with new problems to solve, branching into new possibilities. However, among my thorough enjoyment of the art of bjj, the people of BJJ Olympia: the instructor Robert, and all the colored and white belts that come in every day with a dedication to learn and help learn, are what have kept me coming back. Without this community of extremely talented and passionate athletes, I’m not sure I would have lasted a month. But it’s thanks to their warmth and support that I have made it to where I am now.

Ive been training here about nine months and already have a move named after me! Its the one where you fall on your butt... :DIn all seriousness, though, this is a top-level gym with some of the most patient, dedicated coaches youll find. Doesnt matter if youre an experienced wrestler or a more timid sort looking to face your fears, youll be treated with the same amount of respect. There are at least six black belts I can think of (including Robert Owens) who train here regularly, all with different styles and perspectives. If you want to compete in sport, you can definitely train for that; if you want to learn self-defense, that aspect of things is addressed frequently as well.Like the BJJ world in general, the male-to-female ratio is pretty high, but I will say if youre a woman you are unlikely to be the only one in class on any given night (it happens but its rare). This is turning into a Great American Google Review but I hope Ive done the place justice because I love it here.

First off, I can’t speak to the kids classes or adult BJJ. My experience is only regarding the Muay Thai classes. Simply put: this just isn’t Muay Thai. It’s more akin to cardio / MMA kickboxing with people holding pads. True Thai techniques are frowned upon and corrected. The basic Thai greeting, the wai, wasn’t recognized by anyone that I greeted, including the instructor. There are no partner drills; that is, drills where you are practicing techniques using only your body, gloves, and shin guards (they didn’t do anything that even required shin guards). Holding a kick pad, stationary, doesn’t teach you anything about defense or footwork. Hitting a stationary kick pad, likewise, teaches you little. There was no training of elbows, knees, or the clinch (all essential components to Muay Thai). To summarize, if you are looking for exercise in the context of kickboxing, this would fit the bill. If you are looking for Muay Thai, you’ll have to look elsewhere. It is what it is, nothing against the gym. It’s just not for me.

This is a good gym filled with strong minded articulate humble people .... who will choke you. What do you want to do? Self defense? The instructors at this gym are constantly relating things back to and training for real world application. Compete in Brazilian Jujitsu tournaments...the instructors here have competed at the national and world class level, theyll help you get there if you put in the work. They also have an excellent Muy Thai and MMA program at this gym. There are people here competing in Muy Thai and MMA at this gym. Add to that constant opportunities to attend seminars from some of the very highest level BJJ practitioners in the world...this gym is the real deal. The training is good, the instructors are succinct, and the overall attitude is good, positive, and free of judgement, devoid of the douchey-meatheady type vibe too, which is nice, considering were all there learning to choke each other....I trust the people here enough to have enrolled my son and my nephew to train BJJ here. Ive brought my absolute best friends here to train and they loved it. The people here love and are excited about Brazilian Jujitsu. Give it a shot, you wont be disappointed.
