I was able to get an appointment after trying for about 2 weeks, but it was well worth the wait. The staff and volunteers were helpful and friendly. After looking at several cats, I was ultimately adopted by this little sweetheart that I named Pickle. She is happy and healthy and brightens my days.Thank you to everyone at the Humane Center for all that you do.

Best place to adopt in the south sound. The fees are affordable, even for young dogs- other places want anywhere from $200-500 for a young dog, this place is $90. Ridiculous adoption fees are a big reason why people opt to just use backyard breeders, so this place with its affordable rates allows more people to adopt.

Found Peanut, filled out paperwork, took her home 30 minutes later.Have no idea what complaints people have about this place.... dont feel like reading the reviews... but I would assume that if you didnt have your ducks in a row (i.e. not having registered owner or landlord permission ready to go... or them ready to answer the phone while you are AT THE SHELTER) you could run in to some real issues. So be prepared in case you find the dog for you.I had my landlord ready to go (they check their system and the OWNER of the property is the one that needs to be able to approve the deal, right then) and it literally took about 15 minutes from the time we started the process and made the call until we left.Another hint.... I got there when they opened on a Saturday. Peanut was dropped off the night before, so if you werent there right when the doors opened you never would have seen her or had a shot at getting her. Great dogs are going to be spotted immediately, so get there early. The animals on the site are but a representation of the dogs available, so dont depend on that list to be complete in either direction.

I only give two stars due to the animals in the shelter being taken care of and the off chance that they staff MIGHT let you adopt them. I went in looking to adopt this little dog, my heart set on him with the rest of my family looking forward to welcoming this dog into our home. (Mind you, we have had many, many animals. Living on a farm we know a thing or two about taking care of animals.) The staff looked us up on google images! To verify we have a closed off fence. This dog would have been an inside dog, given her size but they REFUSED to let us adopt her because our fence wasnt completley closed off. My little sisters were devastasted, having to say goodbye to there newly lost friend. I hope the little dog got a home..eventually.

1: The website is cluttered, you eventually find the information you need but not after having to search and search. Info on when they are open how to contact them ect.2: Same day appointments policy. People work and have to be at their place of employment. The vast majority of the work force needs to give a day or two notice to take a day off to come in. So having a same day appointment policy makes that nearly impossible. Sure, I could ask for a future day off, but then I cant be assured Ill be able to get an appointment the same day.If you have 9 cats there, and I want to meet some of the cats, it doesnt matter which day I schedule because there will be cats there. There is no reason I should not be able to book out a day and come and see the cats available.Sent an email regarding this, and received a canned response and no help at all. No flexibility to help people schedule a time. When a second email was sent, the same canned response was sent back within seconds. We own our own house, we have waited 5 years to have the right space, time, money, and resourced to adopt. And they still make it hell to adopt at this location. I have never experienced this level of trouble from other locations.3: Phones. THEY DO NOT PICK UP THEIR PHONES!I call at 8:11AM.. get stuck in their phone tree.I call at 8:21AM.. try another option in the phone tree, still no body picks up....More attempts made.... three in fact. So, try again at 9:30 since maybe Saturday hours are different. And wouldnt you know it they are booked out all day....Really?! How did you book out while I was calling multiple times? Their response We dont have a lot of people to answer the phones That doesnt make sense either... it seems you certainly did have enough people to answer the phones and book out an entire day. There are many reviews mentioning some lady at the front desk is rather unhelpful and rather rude, and many of these reviews are within the past year or two. It seems to be the case still. Will never do business with, and will never volunteer, will never donate. Simply put, while other locations have been more than warm and able to help, this location is simply annoying and not worth it.

We adopted a cat from this place this week. They didnt disclose to us that she was five weeks pregnant. They sent her to be spayed and the vet saw that she was pregnant and still spayed her without calling us and asking before giving our cat an abortion. We had already adopted and paid for the cat. She is our cat and we should have been able to have some say about the kittens. When I asked them why they didnt call us, they told me that it was the shelters policy to spayed the cat no matter what the state was, before she could be adopted. The vet also told me that the people at the shelter should have known our cat was pregnant. We are good animal owners and would have spent the money to find good homes for those kittens after they were born. We would have then had our cat spayed, to keep her from having future litters. I am completely disgusted by what the vet and shelter did. I will never again donate any money or supplies to that horrible place. If you want to adopt a pet, go somewhere else!!!!

Weve visited Animal Care and Control /Animal Services several times, first to look for a lost cat periodically over several months, and most recently for their microchip clinic. Twice a year they run a clinic where they chip pets for $10 a pet. You can also get licenses for your pets at the same time (though I dont know what that costs, because my pets were already licensed). During the last clinic we brought 4 cats and 2 dogs in to be chipped, and the volunteers did a sensational job helping us shepherd all of them through the process, even though my dogs were feeling surly that day. All in all, this is a great place to find a new pet or try to reclaim your fuzzy friend who might have been lost.

This place could care less about actually trying to get animals adopted. I had asked to put a dog on hold so I could fix a hole in my fence that a tree had made when it fell over ( 1 hour to fix). The rude lady at the front desk said no you cant put it on hold (which I find out later was not actually true). I had also asked to adopt the dog and I would fix the hole before they came out to do a fence check. She also said no and said there was nothing she could do (also not true). I come back an hour later after fixing said hole and low and behold someone else put the dog on hold 1 hour before they closed for the weekend. Three days later dog is still on hold, but we keep checking in. A week and a half later they find out the people could not get the dog so what does the shelter do? They put the dog on hold again for someone else. The dog has been stuck in a kennel for more than a week and a half and continues due to the incompetence of the front desk staff. I will mention the volunteers are awesome here and do great work, its the one rude lady at the front desk who really needs to find another job. Lets focus more on getting animals adopted to good homes and stop dragging things out as long as possible.

When I called a few days later, was told the dog had been reunited with her family.

Its a no kill shelter. Should I say more. In order for that to work, its necessary to have the community stand up and support the adoption/homing process, to donate time educating pet owners to resources such as micro chipping, proper licensing, keeping pets healthy happy and at home. What to do if your pet should come up missing, besides checking the shelter ie. Forums, groups, specialty websites.
