Horrible, horrible place to do business. I bought a used tractor online from these people thinking I was buying from a reputable place. First they wanted all my personal information over an unsecured email including my drivers license and signature, then they demanded a non-refundable deposit. Then the owner of the company was screaming at me down the phone that if I dont sign all papers by EOB he would take my deposit. Already a bad experience. When I got my tractor it would not start and I had to pay to take it to a tractor repair place and they found a broken wire connection. But then I find out that the tractor sold as new with only three hundred hours on the clock, had been repainted in places, had dripping hydraulic hoses and diesel soot everywhere - hardly a machine with 300 hours - more like 6000 hours!!! New England Power could not even take the time to clean up the machine or take off a rope tied to the machine before it was picked up - they had my money and were going to run away. Then, I realized why the machine was sold - the engine is totally shot on the machine. Even in the lowest gear I cannot even make it up my driveway and that is without any load. This Indicates that the engine needs a complete rebuild, at least new valves and rings (ca $5000) worth of repair. New England Power has refused to acknowledge anything and say it was my fault because I bought it online - these people are absolute sharks and I am reporting them to the consumer protection bureau and the fair trade commission. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE. My recommendation is to buy nothing from these people as they are dishonest in my transaction, cruel, mean and downright unethical.
Brought my Stihl weed wacker for a tune up in June (it ran fine, but a little rough) and they hit me up for $150. Put it in my shed and took it out last week for the first use and it ran so bad I shut if off in less than a minute. Brought it back for them to look at it and got a phone message saying it was unrepairable. I stopped in to pick the unit up and they said the carb was shot and the gas did it. I had the same gas in the tank as when they tuned it up, and this was the first use. They charged me another $57 for a diagnostic charge. When I asked if they were serious, he stated my guys have to get paid. Bottom line, it cost me over $200 for nothing. Then, after one YouTube video, I purchased a carburetor replacement kit for $13 on Amazon and had my unrepairable unit running like a top in less than 1/2 hour!I would give them no stars, but you have to click on at least one. You decide...
Whatever you do don’t let these guys work on your jet ski!Maybe your lawn mower or chainsaw but their jet ski services are terrible. Falsely diagnosed my jet ski after I told them the suspected issue, then they installed the wrong spark plugs and also advised I needed service work that was not needed. All this was verified by a reputable dealer. When I spoke with the owner he continued to talk over me as I tried to explain my concerns and he told me he didn’t believe me. I paid almost $300 dollars and they didn’t solve the problem and installed wrong parts! Terrible customer service.
Great source for parts for our Deere equipment (Pro Gator 2020 and Z-Trak mower. They were able to replace the worn impeller on a our Billy Goat truck loader when the bolt for the impeller just would not budge. Highly recommend for repairs.
Steve is very knowledgeable and a nice guy to work with. I definitely recommend this shop..
So I drove over 1 1/2 hours to pick up a tractor from them. Called them a few days later to get a part number and they said why would I give you a part number so you can go buy it outside. so I explained that I didnt want to travel another 1 1/2 hours to pick it up and they pretty much told me that I either buy it from them or they wont help. They were happily selling me the tractor for FULL price but dont expect much help or support from them after. I wouldnt give them my business again.
Stay away! Absolutely terrible customer service.I was astonished at just how bad one company could be at customer service. The service guy Steve has no understanding of what it takes to speak to, and treat customers in a way that creates trust and loyalty. The tone and attitude from the minute I had a problem with the brand new tractor I recently bought from them was shocking. I literally mowed my lawn once and the belt broke and he basically accused me of having done something wrong, he questioned how many hours were on the tractor as if I had lied and did nothing to deliver just a basic level of customer service that I would expect after spending thousands of dollars on a new tractor. His excuse was that they “don’t make much on these tractors” – seriously, that’s what he said to me! It’s clear that this is pervasive at New England Power and it starts at the top – I left multiple messages for the owner, Ted and he didnt have the decency to call me back.I’ve used these guys for well over a decade to service my old John Deere but that didn’t matter. My previous tractor was in for service and they indicated that it needed major repairs so much so that it made more sense to buy new (my experience was so bad that I am now questioning if what they told me about my old tractor was even true). I reached out to John Deere corporate and had multiple conversations with them and they restored my faith in the brand. I returned the new tractor through the John Deere Promise and will never buy another thing from New England Power. I headed up to DH Marvin & Son and bought a better tractor for a lot more money and I immediately experienced better customer service. You know what I found out from them? John Deere pays for delivery of a new machine. Not at New England Power – they charged be the full rate to drop off the new tractor. Unbelievable. Do yourself a favor – stay away!
I have a 2020 seadoo rxt x 300. Needed it serviced and back asap every dealer in ct told me at least a week to even get me in. Called these guys got me in right away. Not only did they get me right in but my ski was done 2 days earlier then they said. Most important the total was less then the estimate. Which if you have a ski you know that never happens. Marcus the service manager is a great, honest guy. I will never go to another seadoo dealer again
Unethical business practices! I delivered two of my Seadoo jet skis to New England Power Equipment for routine service and because one of them wasn’t starting. After spending over $3,500.00 on supposed needed repairs, I picked up the skis only to find out the original issue wasn’t resolved and one of the skis still wasn’t starting. After immediately returning the Jet ski back to New England Power Equipment they identified the cause of the original problem and charged me another $730.00 for their misdiagnosed problem. After pleading my case that this issue should have been identified and resolved on the first visit when the Jet ski was apart, I received no consideration. Instead I got attitude, rude customer service and all of a sudden I had to pay in cash to take possession of my Jet Skis. I am now in the process of filing formal complaints with the BBB and Consumer Protection.Additionally I will add; I was charged for a new battery that was not installed in one of the skis, so it was obviously not needed. Another sign of their unethical business practices!Connecticut shoreline Jet ski owners beware!
Beware. I have been a customer of New England Power Equipment for numerous years. I bought my lawn mower in for an annual Tune-Up : Oil Change, Spark Plug and Air Filter Replacement, Cable Adjustment and Blade Sharpening, as stated on their website under: Push/Walk - Behind Tune Up. When I picked up my lawn mower the itemized bill stated: Air Filter, Engine Oil, and Spark Plug Replacement : Cost $155.15 .When I questioned the Service Manager, he stated that Blade Sharpening and Cable Adjustment is not included in a Tune-Up. I informed him that their Website stated that Cable Adjustment and Blade Sharpening is included in the Tune-Up. I was told that the Website was incorrect and I would have to pay an additional $40.00 for a Blade Sharpening and it would take 20 minutes or I can get new Blades for $60.00. I told him I would like new Blades. He than stated that he could not install the new Blades while I waited and he would call me when the lawn mower was ready. The following week, I received a call that the lawn mower was ready. I went to pick up the lawn mower expecting to pay $60.00 for new Blades. I was charged $93.71. When I questioned the price, the Service Manager stated that the minimum shop labor charge was $54.50, for a half hour and parts was $25.98, miscellaneous charge $7.64 totaling: $93.71 including tax. Previously I was quoted $60.00.Poor Service times two. First time -Blade Sharpening and Cable Adjustment should have been included, as stated on their Website. Second time, overcharged the price I was quoted for new Blades. The annual Lawn Mower Tune-Up ended up costing : $248.86. If you search/google the website for Power Equipment Service in the area, this is one of the most expensive shops in the area for Tune-Ups.Former Long Time Customer
Need Power equipment or need it repaired. Friendly helpful and they know their stuff
The parts guy is robot disguised as a human -- he has a snotty attitude, no interest in helping, just reciting Honda policy and part numbers -- his attitude caused me to curse at him. I started my career at a car dealership where we prided ourselves on providing outstanding customer service, doing the extra bit to help out. Its a shame to see such disregard for the customer. But they did me a favor - they asked me to take my business elsewhere -- thank you!
Terrible customer service. The place seemed to have good inventory and at first I thought it would be a good experience but I literally got nothing but attitude every time I asked a question about the pwc I was trying to pre-purchase. The guy couldn’t give me answers on the unit and literally stopped and gave me attitude when I asked about my financing options depending on my down payment. I asked what my monthly payments with two different down payments would be and the guy stopped and told me I should already know this and got upset. He then asked me if I ever financed anything before which I have numerous times, I was most likely going to walk out that store without the pwc purchase for the single fact that I was getting treated terribly, then the guy from the store said I was asking two much questions about the finance options and said he doesn’t want to sell the ski to me. For the price of what the ski was I would have purchased that from a normal sales person no problem but this was literally the worst experience I’ve ever had in store. They could care less, like they told me numerous times it doesn’t matter if I didn’t purchase, the market is so short it would sell the next day regardless.. sea doo shouldn’t even call these unprofessional clowns certified retailers. Oh yea not to mention none of the employees wore masks in a state that it’s required, I sat across from this man for 20 minutes probably 4 feet away. Waste of time, I should have walked out that place when I walked in and heard the electrical zapping around that exposed roof.
I ordered parts via their online website. I received an email confirming my order. After 5 days with no indication when the order would be filled, I called. They said they didn’t have any information on my order, even though I had an order number. The parts guy said don’t use their website, call direct ( strike 1). He asked me to forward the confirmation email, which I did ( strike 2). He called me back and said he needed to add a $20 surcharge for the order ( strike 3). I said no thank you and he abruptly and rudely hung up. Do not trust anyone that does not live up to their commitments.
Matt from NEPE was incredible to work with! He made me feel confident in what I was buying! He was very informative and patient, he didn’t over sell me on anything but gave me his honest opinions! I called many places as I have a busy work schedule and needed to have some phone conversation before committing to one place/ one mower but no one gave me the time of day like Matt did! I will be going back to this shop for everything power equipment I would ever need! Thank you for your outstanding service and making my landscaping equipment buying experience feel like a family transaction!
They since knowledgeable about the chainsaw I bought. The price was normal service was good.Did not try to sell me anything I didnt need. Was happy with everything and my purchase was well taken care of.
The worst customer service the way the answer the phone it’s really uncomfortable and feel really uncomfortable to ask any questions. You guys need to work on that (Matt)
I purchased a new Ariens snowblower back in Dec 2020 from NEPE. Salesman was very helpful, deliver was timely...no issues. 1st snow storm, 1 week later, blower ran for all of 5 minutes and then quit. NEPE came a couple of days later and took back to the shop. Fortunately the warranty covered the pretty extensive repairs. It took about 2 1/2 weeks for repair, pretty reasonable considering holidays and covid. Then service manager called and wanted to deliver but wanted to charge me $60 for delivery, 2 1/2 miles to my house in Old Saybrook! After some discussions they agreed to deliver, no charge, this time only. 2 months later a clip that secures chute cable to frame/engine broke. I took a picture and returned to NEPE and asked to get a replacement clip. I was told by service manager I had to return blower to their shop for an evaluation to determine if it was a warranty issue or operator misuse, and that it was my responsibility to get the tractor there or pay a $60 pick-up fee!! Are you kidding me, I am expected to pay $60 pickup fee for a $2 part??!!! What happened to customer relations and goodwill?? I have purchased several pieces of equipment there over the past 2 years since I moved into Old Saybrook. What a disappointment. So much for trying to be a good neighbor and giving the local shop my business! I have had other issues there over the past 2 years and I was reluctant to buy from them again. I will not be back, and I recommend future customers to explore your options. One more thing, service manager was not wearing a mask.
GOOD SERVICE. Had a tractor tire and tube that needed attention. Marc in service said it would be done by next afternoon. Was done next morning. Thanks
I purchased a new fisher sander and a boss plow for my new ford truck. I am from Norwalk and was shopping for a good deal. Matt took the time to talk and email with me and gave me a great price. They did the install and were super professional and clean. The owner did a wwalk through with me to show me how to operate everything. It was more than worth the 1 hour ride each way. I would do it again. I will be back for future purchases.
Terrible service they had mower for three weeks for a warranty job (never offered a loaner it’s used to mow commercially) and will charge you every nickel they can get out of you. If you can go anywhere else save yourself the aggravation and go to Old saybrook lawn and power where they are only five minutes down the road and are much more professional and will also be fair and work with you.
I choose this store because it’s clean and stocked with John Deere and Sthil tools. A few years ago I bought my lawn mower and a 10 P cart. The cart came with a flat tire, the sales man said it’s nothing just out of air. After weeks the tire continued to go flat, the salesman said it’s normal just to keep putting air. This year I took the tire off and brought it back to the store. The parts Dept said the rim was bad and can’t hold air without a tube. They told me I had to pay for the tube, I mentioned it came defective since since the day I bought it and that I had been keeping constant contact with the store about the issue. They refuse to warranty the product and charged me for the tube.Over the summer I bought a chain saw from them, the salesman sold me the 20” saw with an 18” cover for the chain. I asked why was it short, he said that’s how they make them. I called sthil to offer my Opinion about making a cover to fit over the chain, they said I was giving misleading information and that they have the right cover for the right size bar. Since I recently purchased the chain saw they said to go back and get the right one. When I went back to the store the salesman changed the story and refused to give me the correct part, he in fact wanted to sell me the correct part.Sthil and John Deere sell good products they don’t need salesmen to mislead their customers. These products have a warranty and the store should honor it. This store did none of that. I believed that with the amount of money I spent at this store they would’ve valued me as a customer, but that wasn’t the case. I wouldn’t recommend this store.
They charge $109/hr for labor. Thats $20/hr more than I pay my auto mechanic. Brought in my John Deere Lawn Tractor for an oil leak and$524 later, still leaking. The guy said there was another engine problemthat would cost another $600 to fix. I replaced the whole engine myself forabout the same amount. I should have done that in the first place, nowIm out $524.
Tried them for equipment rental. Facility was well stocked and clean. Rented a wood chipper from them. Great rate, equipment in excellent condition, good demo on use and easy return. Will definitely go back for any other rental needs. The retail part looks like the carry everything you could possibly need for power equipment and big boy toys.
Great people!
Dave and his staff are professional courteous and have urgency to get things done. I gave them a five star review because that’s what they deserve.as a business owner I understand it’s difficult to please everybody. Especially if it’s a difficult client. I have nothing but good to say about this company. Buy from them rent from them and have your equipment worked on from them and I know they will take care of you the same way they take care of me. I’m very satisfied with this company and you will be as well.
Very helpful staff, great selection of products
Poor attitude, tried to buy a PWC from them that was in on consignment. Had gotten my financing all set up with my credit union. NEPE supplied me with the paperwork to get all my financing through. Apparently it was too much to ask when I asked for two notarized bills of sale for the PWC and trailer, so that I can register it in my state. Guy called back and said “this is too much work, we’re going to pass. Thanks”
Great inventory, very helpful staff.
This was the second time I have rented equipment from them and they were so helpful! When the guy who delivered the equipment came to bring it to my house and install it for me the process was extremely smooth! They even go over how to use the equipment so that you are ready to go! 5 stars all the way!
My advice is to bring your business elsewhere. I feel robbed each and every time I do business with New England Power Equipment. Today was the final straw. After two failed attempts to attach my mower deck to my John Deere 755 tractor, the deck disconnected and fell off 20 minutes after the service guy left. My tractor has been stuck in place for three days with no help or concern from New England Power Equipment. In fact, they obviously couldnt care less. I called to report the problem and two days later after still not hearing back, I called again to speak with the general manager today. He suggested that I never left a message - but of course I had left a message and he knew that - and he then proceeded to make excuses as to why his company was not responsible for my difficulties. The 1991 tractor is too old he said. So only bring him new tractors I suggest. The deck might have some issues that need repair. So before you ask their assistance, go someplace else for a diagnostic sothey might better know how to proceed. He refused to refund my payment for attaching the deck because he said he never charged me for that. I know what I paid and one hour of labor was charged for the attachment that failed. Even though after asking for an itemized receipt for the thousands of dollars of work they charged me for over the past 18 months, I only received one such receipt and that was after asking no less than 4 times amd waiting 4 weeks. I received no such receipt this time either of course. Dave, the general manager offered only excuses, disinterest, and argument. We agreed that I would go someplace else with my business; a solution obviously best for us both. If my review leaves you thinking I am an easily outraged customer I assure you I am not. I simply request a fair deal for the price I pay. So to repeat my opening line - My advice is to bring your business elsewhere.A response to the General Managers response from below:After a second failed attempt and a refusal from New England Power Equipment to make good on what they did not deliver, I called a local tractor mechanic to come out to take a look. I asked this mechanic to either fix my mower deck or to remove the deck so I could use my tractor. He worked on it for about two minutes and said that whoever did the deck installation did not engage the locking mechanism into the front fork arm of the deck. With the lock left unlatched, the deck would fall off almost immediately he said. He latched the pin and I have been using the mower deck without any problem ever since. I mowed my field and I cut brush all day. It works flawlessly now. New England Power Equipments claim that my tractor is too old to fix is preposterous. The tractor is a 1991 with less than 900 hours total on it. What kind of a tractor repair shop would say such a thing? Funny they never said that before when I was writing checks for thousands of dollars without any itemized receipts or clearly listed tally. They did not do the job right and then told me my tractor is too old to repair. And on a final note, the claim that I asked for a refund based on the free attempt to fix what I paid for is child like. I asked for a refund of the one hour labor i was charged for the task of attaching my mower deck to my tractor. They came out and did not do the job but charged me one hour labor. The second attempt was not charged but was equally uneffective. I had to pay another mechanic who discovered the poor workmanship of New England Power Equipment because New England Power Equipment offered such bad customer support as to gladly get rid of my business rather than make things right. My advice is to take your business elsewhere. ~ Frank Blackwell
Always Excellent Service. My tractor is there now for routine maintenance.
Great experience! All the staff was very helpful! In total we purchased 3 seadoo sparks and we love them.
Needed a small spring for my John Deere 48 mower. Parts department was friendly and very helpful in getting me an in-stock John Deere replacement. Mower was back to running within an hour.
First time ever there. Sales guy was very informative and curtious. Bought a John Dear rider at 10:45 am today. They are delivering it for me today between 1:30-2:00 pm. Cant get better service then that !
Great place to get all your equipment needs
Dave and his staff are great. It is nice to see friendly and knowledgeable people who care about service and their community. If you need anything when it comes to lawn care I recommend New England Power.
I have rented equipment from these guys many times. They deliver the equipment clean and on time and at a fair rate. Two thumbs up!
Bought 2 John Deere Gators and a Zero Turn, BEST EXPERIENCE. Super friendly, very knowledgeable staff, would give 10++ stars if I could. Will only be purchasing machines from New England Power Equipment.
Brought in a Kohler engine which was covered under warranty. They took over a month to return it, which allowed the warranty to expire. They didnt properly diagnose the issue or repair it properly. They also said I tampered with the fuel pump, which I did not, and charged me around $250 for a new fuel pump. The main seal was leaking, and its clear the bushing inside of the cover plate was worn. I brought it back in after the seal they installed blew right away, and they said theyd do me a favor by honoring their in house warranty of 30 days. I picked it up and he said it was their mistake, that they had put the seal in too far. No surprise, the new seal blew the first day the engine ran, and now it runs with minimal power, and sounds like its about to throw a rod. Ill be purchasing a brand new engine now for over $2500. The Kohler warranty wasnt honored in my opinion, in that the engine was not adequately repaired, when I originally brought it in inside of the warranty period. Not to mention, theyre less than welcoming when you come in for warranty repair. Defensive, and short with words, as if Im trying to rip them off or something by asking for warranty repair. Dont expect welcoming service if you dare to bring something in for warranty repair.- RESPONSE TO OWNER - I did not purchase the engine from an online company. It came on a machine that I purchased from TimberKing. When I called Kohler they said they havent dealt with warranty registrations in years, and that my receipt of purchase was all that I would need. Also, there was a month left of warranty and I have the records to prove it. You took a month to put a seal in that I could put in myself in 15 minutes, until the warranty ran out.
We had this company fix our tractor but before they fix it we asked them to call us and let us know what would it cost, they called us and quoted us $467my wife gave the credit card info over the phone the next day we looked in our bank account and they charged us $673 that’s very unprofessional and sneaky if you deal with this company becareful and ask many questions or better yet go to another company . UPDATE : They resolved our issue and I do apologize for this negative review they reimbursed us the diffence and apologized to us for the mistake I now highly recommend this company because of their quick response and honesty .
Really good selection of equipment all at MSRP. Their sales staff were great when I needed to buy a new snowblower, didnt try to push me into anything I didnt need. However in the spring when I needed a repair done to a leaf blower which is a brand they dont sell they told me that Id need to find someone else to fix it. Theyd have a hard time getting parts. So theyre a new product showroom with a we-repair-only-what-we-sell shop instead of a repair shop.
Great service! Its a pleasure to rent equipment from them!
Great selection and very knowledgeable. I went in not knowing which chainsaw to buy and the salesman Pat was a big help!
Very helpful staff will be back there again
Great place to have small engine repair done
$2500 for a lawn mower and you’re charged $68 to repair slow leak in front tire on 2 month old unit. Has been leaking since day one.
