I went in person to an auction in July, and the experience couldnt have been better. The staff was friendly and helpful from beginning to end. I bought 2 great mid century pieces of furniture, and Ill be sure to go back again!
GREAT AUCTION HOUSE TO WORK WITH. I HAVE RECENTLY MADE TWO PURCHASES FROM THIS AUCTION HOUSE, THROUGH INVALUABLE.COM, AND AM VERY HAPPY! THE STAFF IS KNOWLEDGEABLE, HELPFUL, AND EASY TO DEAL WITH. I USED ONE OF THEIR PREFERRED SHIPPERS AND WAS VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. JUST WHAT I LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING!! BID AND BUY WITH CONFIDENCE!
Beaware of this auctionhouse if you buy anything in porcelain or anything that can break.... They sold me a vase that was so badly repaired in the $1000+++ range... and did not respond to anything afterworth... so if you are buying something over $100, then this is not the auctionhouse for you...
Deric the furniture manager...super helpful and amazing person in every way!!!! Just off the phone winning my first item with Deric!! Item shown below.I feel it is a privilege to buy from Clars not the other way around. A privilege that I respect and cherish. The experience I had setting up the clars.com live bidding and the phone bidding with the ***super helpful staff***was a simple process and very fast. Everyone I talked to was polite, friendly and treated me like family.I asked many questions about the piece and Deric was very involved and asked me to call him if I ever have any questions.....So, not at all what people are posting. I was polite and friendly and got the same in return. If you are demanding people will have their backs up so treat people nicely and you will get the same. The selection is amazing as is the quality of the items offered to auction and has something for everyone with wonderful quality pictures that really show the detail. (The piece I bought is the finest I have seen on any Continent). Far better pictures then most auction houses. Just wish I could buy it all!! The estimates are also very accurate..no one has a crystal Ball to tell what others are willing to pay but they are as close as one can be, I find, in my vast auction experiences.Must say I love the clars.com auction platform....no glitches you get with the other 2 big ones live and inval.. It is clean platform and easy to use you can see 10 lots ahead and it is always functional. It is the only platform I like thus far and find the good auction houses are starting to use it and I recommend it highly.I buy from auctions around the world and I have never had, as a new buyer, such a fun, pleasant and exciting time with all the staff so eager to help me as I had with this auction!!!!*******bravo to clars auction***I did read the reviews.....very disappointed in people who gave them.Following reasons....1) They ( Clars) are not shippers so dont get upset they dont ship what you buy. It is like getting up set that a Blue Jay Bird is not Red just because you think it should be Red...The same logic or I should say lack of logic!!People are expressing a very bad sense of entitlement where they feel the auction should just do whatever they dream up from packing to arranging the shipping with the shippers. 5 minutes on the phone and I had all the information I needed from the shippers..very efficient..plus I got off my butt and dialed a few numbers...boy that was hard;).2) The people at both world air & ocean services, inc and pack ship areextremely helpful, very knowledgeable and the quotes were excellent and got the quote same day!!!3) Shipping via post, DHL, FedEx and so on costs money as does the packing..This is not ebay where Grandma is packing it poorly and shipping it on the cheap to you...so things cost money to ship....so yes buy a $40 dollar item no one can ship it for $40. You will pay *a very fair price*, this is what the shippers charge**...the costs are much lower at the shippers mentioned than most other places in USA, Canada, or Europe so be happy.4) These are antiques so after 100 to 300 years there will be issues and no auction can possibly give/describe every damaged area. No one can, plus it is up to interpretation; what is a negative quality or what is essentially character or patina depends on who is looking at it. To expect an Antique to be like something that came out of a box is unreasonable.I highly recommend Clars for those who want to own the finest Antiques, Arms and Armour Available at Amazing prices..I feel lucky to buy here and will come back as much as my wallet can afford!!
Hello! I asked two mailing companies to quote, their mailing price is too high, I decided to give up bidding! Because of the high cost of mailing (packaging and service fees are too high), the value of the goods themselves is not worth it. So, give you a suggestion, limit the price of the mailing company, or send it by your own company. In this way, the cost of mailing will be reduced, which is beneficial to bidders, promotes their purchase, and is also good for your auction. If the freight price is high, a large number of people may not dare to bid! Hope you guys consider it!
Have bought from them on a couple of occasions and the experience has been a mixed one. Pros: Attractive estimates, helpful and responsive support staff, easy payment options. Cons: Very expensive shipping options compared to other auction houses, inconsiderate CEO who lacks any empathy or customer service skills and issues veiled threats with unpleasant consequences - totally tactless and better suited to employment in a debt collection agency. Avoid unless you have no choice.
My cousin, Carleton, just purchased a stunning cabinet from the last auction and I was in the home the entire time due to covid now. I watched how excited he got from first calling to paying today, Monday. I was talking to him and he had only wonderful things to say about the people at the auction and how they provide exemplary service. He was rather horrified and upset with the audacity people showed by posting inexplicable comments regarding shipping when auctions as a RULE do not do this at all. Comments regarding items having damage when at auction the items range in age and use from a multitude of consignors so to expect anyone to disclose everything wrong it just preposterous.I can personally vouch for the good nature and kindness that the staff portray having called myself when my cousin was busy. So Cheers to all at Clars Auction!People are 20 times more likely to spread bad news or leave negative comments then they are to explain what a wonderful time they had. Modern human behavior. What this means is that a 100 buyers at the auction could have an amazing experience yet only 5 that is FIVE people will take the time to write a positive account. YET the out of the 5 that feel things were not going right in the Universe they are King or Queen 4 to 5 will take the time to post a negative comments. Not to mention the ME TOO age where people see negative happenings and just want to JUMP ON THE WAGON and post a negative just to be part of the crowd. So the reviews do not accurately explain the Auction house if for any reason the grievances are complete rubbish without merit. logic or foundation in reality.Henceforth, be honest and empathetic POST A GREAT REVIEW dont fall into the age of hate.It is my recommendation anyone should feel enamored and delighted to buy whatever you wish from this fine establishment. Cheers and be kind my friends, it shows good character!
My mother passed away pre-Covid three weeks after I started a new job in a new location. I was so stressed to be left with and entire house full of 16 century and older antiques that I called all the auction houses in the Bay Area. The only one that could come and remove everything quickly was Clars. I was informed that her various dynasty Chinese pieces along with her tapestries and furniture would fetch a tidy sum. Suffice it to say that on auction day, each piece went for virtually nothing. My frantic calls were not taken. I had family in the building watching and they couldn’t believe what was transpiring. It’s been three years since that devastation occurred and I’m just getting around to posting about it. I don’t know that I’ll ever get over it Take your time and do your research or literally pay the price.
Bought a loose gem for $225. Morrison’s in Orinda (wonderful place) set the stone in a ring they appraised at 18000. (Antique road show moment) There are treasures to be found in Clar’s amazing attic!
I was the winning bidder of a etching at their Jan 18th, 2020 auction. I called auction house as I had not received invoice for the item and was told it was sold to someone else and they had already picked up item. Makes me wonder if they did not like price etching sold for and that was their excuse. I definitely had the high bid for the etching.
I purchased four fake items from this auction house. When I called the auction house, the only answer I get is some description of the terminology they used to trick costumers.
Miss Ma always help me a lot.
They have been super easy to deal with and very responsive. Ive dealt with buying from literally hundreds of auction houses over the years so believe me I know what Im talking about and how it can be a frustrating experience. I do appreciate the fact that they provide not only canvas size but framed size as well in their listings. They deserve more than a 3.3 on here.
Sold me a vase... with obvious hairlines and repairs.. no mention of that in the description or condition report.. still no followup from them after the purchase of This worthless $1600 purchase.. buyer be aware
Love this place. Friendly without standing service
Please understand things are sold as is with little representations in bold as their commissions do not justify liability. Do not buy impulsively or without doing your homework. We have been happily doing business with these people for years.
Clars is one of the better auction houses I have dealt with through Invaluable. Their service is good, staff is friendly and all my transactions have been dealt with in a professional manner. Bidding online can be a risky business at the best of times but I have found Clars to be trustworthy and efficient.
Clars is a complete scam operation. We came in with a screen print and a precious gemstone and Had already seen two other appraisers for our items. With the painting we were informed that we could sell it for nearly 700 dollars at auction with another auction house. We went to Clars and they informed us it was only worth 100 dollars. I couldnt believe it, Clars was trying to rob me and my wallet. Now, with the gemstone I brought, the lady didnt even look at it. Another auction house said it was worth nearly 2 grand. This lady at Clars told us it was worthless and would only sell for about 200 dollars. I could not believe this place is still in Business, Shocked how many people have given this 5 stars.
I have heard great things from a customer about where you can get a fair price for the art I have (since art is hard to sell around here), Ive called a few times for more than just a few questions and a few guys really have me their time and effort to help find out and help me. Thank you so much for making me feel so idk another way to put it besides special important and welcomed. These 2 especially are the expert from the Indian artifact that helped me with the prayer feather questions...And Dan, Dan, you are an A+. Every time I have called you back and back on multiple days, never too busy or in anything but a good mood to help accommodate. Hope to see you tomorrow! Jenny L. From Fresno
A splendid mix of fine and funky. High value canvases, furniture & jewelry mixed with the odd, eccentric and overlooked. Great stuff, great staff!
SCAM ALERT. I purchased a number of items here, or so I thought. They scammed me, wouldn’t release my items unless I paid double the amount I won the items for. They are crooks. They wouldn’t refund me, lied to my bank and resold the items in the next auction. Once you pay, customer service and polite emails will go out the window. They will hold your items for whatever “fee” they seem fit and that fee goes up and down based on the whim of the owner. Clars is a scam operation. I’m currently working with the California State Attorney General and other people victims of Clars to find justice. Please, if anyone is reading this, before it’s too late, save yourself thousands of dollars and a ton of time and heartbreak by steering clear of this criminal enterprise.
I purchased a painting from Clars through an online auction website and I must say the staff at Clars were very professional and polite and everything went very smoothly. Had a third party shipper pick-up the painting from Clars and there was never any problem. Have had problems with other two other auction houses recently but Clars was very professional in their dealings with me.
Mosty dodgy, buyer beware!!! if you buy something for a good price they will come up with strange excuses, such as having sold it to someone else. Pleas avoid this dodgy auctioneer at any cost. they are dishonest and bullies on top. NO No NO.
Clars is not a place that I would trust.Always get more than one opinion to know what you have. Clars gives (10% of the true value) clars evaluators arent knowlegable with history or in my case type of opal. They are interested in making money off your item and giving you nearly nothing as a return. This place is a red light so be careful and not allow them to swindle you.I took an old 14k gold diamond and coober pedy Opal of gem quality.I cut stones and opals are my favorite so I knew the value of the opal alone is $7000.00.Its a very bold heavy ring with 6 1/4 ct diamonds that of course would add even more valueClars verbal evaluation consisted of saying the ring is is worth $750.00 and is something they could sell That was all I needed to know that this place will swindle the uneducated person to make a buck. Beware do your homework and always get more than one evaluation no matter how knowlagable a person says they are. Do the homeworkThe more evaluations the more knowledge you have to not be taken for a ride.
Clars refers you to shippers who charge a ransom to deliver your items. Most of them dont even respond within a reasonable time frame and Clars wants to charge you daily storage fees. when you suggest a UPS pick up they refuse. so youve paid for your item and now you are stuck with either storage fees or some exorbitant amount to get your items delivered.
Auction house with antiques art and jewellery. They went near retail.
Ive been a customer of Clars for years but recently purchased a item they claimed was old gold in fact it was copper .They refused to refund money didnt return calls once I requested to return item .Clars proved to be a very dishonest seller . They didnt value my years of being a client at all ...
