Went out for lunch on 7/25/21. When we first walked in it smelled musty. We got a table within 5 minutes. When we sat down we couldn’t smell anything anymore really. We sat by the window, it was nice and warm, but very dusty, Cobb webs and spider webs, definitely needs to be cleaned. Our waitress was very “comfortable” to the point where she was trying to stir the sugar into our tea by touching our straw when we were already stirring it ourself, very unprofessional in my opinion. She was also sitting down while taking other customers orders, like I said very “comfortable” and not very friendly or personable. Ordered lettuce wraps as an appetizer that were really good. Also ordered the appetizer combo which came with edamame, shrimp wontons, chicken wontons and shrimp spring rolls. None of the items from the combo appetizer were very good, they were dry and bland. Our appetizers took 20 plus minutes to come out and we barely got a lettuce wrap in and our entree came, definitely bad timing. We got 4 different sushi rolls. They were so-so. I’ve definitely had way better service and food basically anywhere else. The host was very polite and friendly, and personable, I wish he could have been a waiter. I will not be back to this restaurant.

Typical hibachi show with spatula tossing and onion volcano. Great food and staff. Got there around 2:30 and left around 3:30 which apparently wasnt lunchtime so we paid dinner prices. They also include 18% tip on the bill yet still have a tip line on the check. So the bill was more than expected but we enjoyed it and will return.

Our chef was fantastic and the food was great! But, Wasabi, please hire a pest control company to get rid of the mosquito infestation inside the restaurant. They literally ate my legs and feet alive today 😩 😥. Fortunately, I had some Off repellent in my car, sprayed it all over me and around me so that I could enjoy my meal. The workers said they wear socks and long clothes so that theyre not bitten too badly. Please have a heart and mercy and hire an exterminator. Thanks! By the way, I love Wasabi over the other hibachi grill place because I like your rice better 😋😁

Can I leave a half star review? Where to begin? Seemed surprised by our reservation, which was made two days in advance. After the initial drink order the wheels came off. We waited and hour and a half to not eat. No one seemed to care. I understand the pandemic has created struggles in the service industry. But this was the only time I have actively left a restaurant. I wouldnt recommend unless youre apt to starve yourself...

If youre going to mandate tipping, you should let people know of that ahead of time. Im not against tipping by any means, it just takes the fun away from tipping. Similar to prices on the menu, forced gratuity, should be made aware of ahead of time.

Had a reservation for 5:30. We were seated within 5 minutes of arrival so that was good. We ordered right away and then just sat and waited. We all received our salad and soup that came with our meal but our chef did not come to start cooking our dinner until 6:40. The waitress must have been counting on the automatic 18% tip because she was horrible. She hardly came to check on us. I had 3 kids with me all 10 and under. She took it upon herself to charge my 10 yr the price of an adult meal even after I said to her and the chef I had 3 kid meals. It definitely was not worth my time or money to dine there. We will not be going back.

I was a server/bartender for many years. I followed up by owning my own coffee house/restaurant. I would say that our dinner tonight was definitely not satisfactory. We waited one hour to get our meal. Two of us were served in the third person wait another 10 minutes for their dinner. Upon leaving and paying at the desk, My partner let them know that the service was poor. The host asked who was your server? Question was followed by the server entering into the conversation. She looked at my partner and said “ look at all the credit cards in your wallet you should have spent more money.” I am gathering that because we weren’t a high ticket we got bad service. What a ridiculous approach to the problem. Poor management to say the least. We will not be referring this restaurant to any of our friends or colleagues. We will definitely not be going back, Fire Her!

Went there for lunch, and when we got there no one greeted us and we had to sit ourselves. The server brought us water, no menus. We finally got menus when the rest of the table ordered and the server handed us their menus with out cleaning them off. We then ordered sushi, not bad, just not the freshest. The Hibachi cook was ok. A little entertaining but expected more. The food was good though. They did charge us dinner prices for lunch which added 30 dollars more to the bill. They also included tip on the receipt which you could barely read.

I loved it!!!!! The habachi chicken and steak were extremely delicious! The hot sake and tea hit the spot as well! 5 star treatment! It was my mothers gift to me for my birthday! Happy birthday was sung to me! Just a wonderful experience! The chef and the waitress were awesome! Shout out to Jason! Wasabi really delivers!

Tried this place for the first time and the food was okay, though the fish used in the sushi was not fresh. Service was okay at best, waitress hardly checked on us and didnt ever ask how our food was.Was very offput by the tip being included in the check but that not being mentioned to us beforehand - we almost double tipped had I not noticed the extra 50 cents charged to a credit card transaction that was not mentioned verbally, only printed on the bottom of the very hard to read receipt.Overall I wont be back.

Tried this place for the first time and I like it so much!! We ordered takeout, which didnt take too long and everything was packaged well. Hibachi steak was delicious! The steak, grilled vegetables and fried rice are all cooked perfectly as well as the two extra shrimp they gave for hibachi dinner. Will come back!

Had a reservation for 7pm with my family, didn’t get seated until 7:30pm. Waited another 15 minutes after being seated to order our drinks and meal. It’s now 8:26 pm and we are still waiting for a chef to come cook our meal. Never waited this long at any restaurant in my life. NEVER WILL I COME HERE AGAIN !!!!!!!

I have been coming here for 7 years .. the food is still ok, but its just ok. I also dont believe my veggies were washed well as they have that crunch of dirt .. I grow my own so I know when I didnt wash well! Our chicken was rubbery.Otherwise still good but place is defintely in need of tlc.Staff was friendly efficient.

Habachi was our meal. Arrived at 6:15, was nearly deserted. More people came later but the reservation we made was unnecessary. Then the waitress came every 5 mins to check on us. I get diligence but this just showed lack of work for their employees. We were the only two at the grill so that was lonely, the sides for the order were assumed and gotten wrong, the food tasted great, and the drinks were good. The sushi app we got was lack luster, but visually appealing. All in all, Ive had more out of other places and spent less money. I cannot fault other than these minimal mistakes which some others may like. But I did want to share my thoughts.

Had to wait at least 30 mins until the chef came to cook on the hibachi grill.. I could tell he was new. He cooked everything but he gave my son some steak and my son doesnt eat beef. He got his meal Chicken veggies and fried rice but the steak had no place and he didnt ask if my son wanted it before placing it on his plate. Just please ask before you put extras on other peoples plate especially if they dont ask for it.

Our server Jacob was very attentive and provided exceptional service! Our cook Joshua (aka Black panther) did an outstanding job cooking our meal! The chicken and shrimp were delicious! The place is quite big and that allowed for us to have a quiet Sunday dinner.

Service was poor, building needed an update. Got food poisoning from the place. They automatically put the tip on the bill and I was annoyed with that since the service was awful. There was no soap in the bathroom. That is disgusting but especially during this time with Covid going around and not having soap to thoroughly wash your hands.

Just went here the other day and was not happy. It took 20 minutes for my family and I to get waters, 30 minutes later getting appetizers, and people being seated after us getting served and their meals Cooked right in front of us as we sat there for over an hour and a half.At the two hour mark we called it quits and decided to leave. Did not get compensated for the poor service either. Management was not present and did not seem to care.Appetizers were cold, not given salads with every other table having them (yes we asked), paid 3.00$ for tea that is microwaved.Our server was rude, had an ear pod in one ear with a disrespectful tone. Also she did not care for her guests trying to leave. No urgency with us cancelling what would of been a decent bill. Had the audacity to place drinks far away in the table forcing us to stand up to grab the drink.Cooks not wearing masks correctly, and servers not practicing social distancing.Don’t come here. Just go to Benihana’s.

The food was excellent, but the service was poor. They failed to honor reservations. What is normally an hour to an hour and a half experience became a 3 hour spectacle. The manager was very polite, but it was not enough to make up for this horrible experience.

I’ve never left a review in my life, and I really wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt despite its recent bad reviews, but those reviews are no joke. It took us an hour and a half to get OUR DRINKS! After being seated. Multiple people around us at other tables were talking about how they will never return. Thankfully the food is good, thanks to the chefs, but they need a manager in that restaurant and more workers. Skip this place and go to benihana, or try and go on a very very slow week day. And yes we had a reservation for a week leading up to tonight.To the owner, please for the love of your restaurant, hire a semi decent staff or don’t even open the doors... I know you are in the process of hiring new workers, but you are losing MANY customers who will never return and your reputation as a restaurant will sufferThe 3 stars is for the chef only, but if I based this on the experience alone it would be 1 star. This was by far the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. I had made the reservation through open table and also called to confirm the reservation for the hibachi table. When we arrived they advised us that they would not be able to honor our reservation for the hibachi tables. They ended up seating us in a back corner, which we only agreed to because we were starving. It was absolutely freezing. The service was horrible. She did not bring requested drinks. All of the water glasses were full of debris. We asked her to take them and bring back clean glasses. She returned with more dirty glasses. The food was brought out in different times and was not good quality. Plus there was someone playfully screaming in the kitchen all throughout the evening.Then, they replied to my review with absolute lies and ridiculous accusations. We were never offered to sit in our vehicle and wait. We were told that we were not able to get a hibachi chef table because it was too late in the evening and that if we wanted to stay and eat we had to eat in the corner. Everyone paid their bill and we were not given any discounts. We were a table of six (2 children) and neither of our bills came out to $70.

We have missed them immensely, so happy they are open and serving the best food around with a great atmosphere and very nice & polite staff. Well lets start by saying that we had a reservation for a large party (33) in advance, just family, for a high-school graduate and his 18th bday all in one. We were there approximately FIVE hours. It took nearly an hour to get our seat, Another hour to get water/beverages, another hour to get orders placed and finally received most of our food. Although, they were very shorthanded, we were told by our waitress, we had a few family members leave and cancel their orders, because it was taking too long. Unfortunately, a couple people never received their meal at all. We had a 3 fantastic, cooks/chefs, a good hostess/waitress MARLENE (young Mexican woman around 20 years old) She tried her best and they were ALL extremely kind and ultimately deducted a percentage off our bill for the extremely long wait we endured. I would return because atleast they made a valid effort smooth things over. Food was delicious and nice portions. I hope they receive some staffing soon because its a nice restaurant.

Sushi and tempura is nice. The place is absolutely filthy though (sticky floors and tables, murky fish tank, theres a weird basement Malbero smell in some places) and the poor staff are so overworked. Management needs to take a serious look at these two things.

So I have to give 2 grades: 5 stars for their sushi and 1 star for their other items. Every sushi weve tried has been amazing! Great ingredients, combinations, and execution. However, their tempura has a really thick, heavy batter rather than the typical light japanese batter. Katsudon is very common japanese dish with tonkatsu on rice with simmered onions and an egg on top. Wasabis version was just the cutlet on curry rice with no egg or onions or sauce of any kind. Id recommend ordering sushi from here, but if you like any other authentic dish, go elsewhere.

!!Please do not go or expect anything good about this place!! We had dinner, the receptionist was standoffish, the waitstaff had no idea about the menu. We asked how many shumai in 1 order, she said she doesn’t know. Their shumai is literally NOT made by them and bought at an asian store that doesn’t have meat in it. It is all wrapper. It was horrible. They took it out from the frozen container and microwaved it for sure. Their hibachi dinner is a rip off— my friends ordered steak and scallops but was only given 2 pcs of scallops and underneath it, they hid the shrimps which they didn’t order— they probably figured they put the shrimp cos scallops are expensive. Thank goodness both of them do not have shrimp allergies. They asked us how our steaks are to be cooked, the waitstaff was confused, she didn’t know who ordered what so we checked each of the steak in each plate just for us to find out that there was no point of specifying the doneness cos they cooked everything well done anyways. No medium, medium well, etc. Their veggies were cold. They probably took it from the freezer and heated it up but not thoroughly. Lastly, I asked for a high chair for my daughter and it was filthy. Sticky, with gunk, dried food sauce and grains of old rice in it— obviously they didn’t clean it in years. Their table is sticky and nasty too. The price is expensive. We didn’t mind paying more but it WAS awful and not worth it. Food was not even good. Pls pls— do not waste your money at this place. We have learned our lesson the hard way.

The food and the chef is was great but the service sucks 😕 they include 18% gratuity which Im very happy to give when the service is good, but in this case I still paid it but no happy about it. Our meal supposed to include salad which the waitress said they were run out of it, but another people in from of us who came after us got it with no problem, we order sushi it never came. We leave this place so dissatisfied and so disappointed about the service. Ill give 1 star but the chef did really good job. Never go there.

This is going to be my last visit to Wasabi.I bought 2 chicken fried with extra two rice for $ 23.81on June 16 2021 . There is only two small box of that white sauce in the bag . I drive again to the Washabi (Novi ) from Farmington to get couple of white sauce. I showed the receipt & asked for couple of sauce The lady behavior is too rough not kind & gave two small box sauce & charged 75 cents for each box total $ 1.50.Really I feel very bad .

Superb place for Japanese cuisine. They have some really wide variety of menu to choose from. From appetizers to main course, drinks and desserts are great. Hibachi style of cooking is bit expensive than the regular one but is definitely worth a try for experiencing some authentic Japanese style cooking. The chef presenting the hibachi style in front of us was very funny and quite an entertainer. Quality and taste of the food ordered was extremely delicious and perfect in its spice level. Only the chicken in it was bit undercooked. Service was quick and fast.

Visited this location for a a small birthday celebration . The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The food was excellent and cooked to taste, I really enjoyed the hibachi environment. They are definitely following the COVID guidelines by wearing their masks while preparing the food. The only down size there was a terrible smell coming from the restroom area (sewerage back-up) please get that repaired . Other than that I will be returning .

50 people waiting in the lobby this past Saturday. Restaurant was overbooked and the owner Jenny was telling everyone they were next to get a table. Reservations did not matter, as people were waiting well over an hour after their reservation time. It was completely chaotic, with no leadership whatsoever. Jenny, you should be ashamed of yourself for allowing this to continuously happen. For all of the employees, assistant mangers and future employees, do yourself a favor and quit. For example, read a prior response from the owner: We clean everyday, but we cannot keep the spiders from coming in the cracks. We try our best not to seat customers in that area of the restaurant What a joke.

It was my first time eating at Wasabi and it was awesome! Beautiful, fun and very clean environment! The restaurant followed all of the COVID restrictions and had us wait in our car to be seated at our hibachi table when it was ready. Food was very delicious and plentiful. Liu, our hibachi chef was very talented and entertaining! I definitely highly recommend this restaurant!

What a great dining experience we had Saturday February 6th at Wasabi!!We arrived and had to wait a few minutes which was ok and totally expected since everyone in Michigan has not been allowed to be out for dine in service for months!! I loved it, this was my second time there, my mom called and made reservations, we got in at the time we were reserved, we got a few drinks, nothing ever mixed up, we had a group of 6, and it was fantastic. We ordered a lot of food and we didnt get any rude remarks the waiter was happy to help our annoying selves and the chef made it fun to watch! Hello we want to wasabi on Valentine’s Day and our reservation was made at seven we were six people we didn’t get to b seated until 830 and the hibachi cook started cooking our dinner at 9:30 we were very hungry and embarrassed because we invited all these people to come with us we’ve been there lots of times and they were good but I think they overbooked although they were supposed to have only 25% capacity and their food used to be a good not anymore we all ordered chicken and steak the chicken was ok But the steak very poor quality and not chewable at all we didn’t eat it at the end we brought it to the waitress attention she said oh well sorry and I gave her a $20 coupon that didn’t say excluding holidays on anything else she refused to take it and also to mention the place is dirty they need to clean before they seat people

I have to write a review about amazing Food and Service at Wasabi Japanese Restaurant in NOVI on grandriver. Wait time was what to be expected for a popular restaurant. We made reservations in advance and waited till our table was open. The atmosphere was electric stirring of people who were excited to be out again. Because it is only a 25% seating capacity. I was hoping we got through. The owner Jenny a sweet hard working woman was doing everything possible to make our experience satisfisfactory and enjoyable. The food was like before this terrible pandemic, Fantastic. It was a pleasure to be out again. In such a friendly environment with great service hospitality and Amazing Food. From a loyal customer. I am right now sitting in this restaurant completely frustrated.i reserved a table for 7.45 pm, had to wait which is understandable. A server came to us twice, did not wish, started to write our order and suddenly turned around and left.no info, no reason...then when we asked a gentleman nearby trying to accommodate everyone, he told that it was a wrong table for that server...really...atleast she could have said hello or served water. Terrible service, extremely salty soup...when told to server she bought some veg soup stock as a replacement, forgot one of our order and brought it after an hr when we told we wanna cancel it. The servers were screaming and shouting across the restaurant to handle the high traffic.absolutely no customer service, no apology...Do not recommend this place.i was always impressed by the Japanese cuisine for their hospitality, perfection and amazing food...it seems this place is using a Japanese name to scam people...would like to mention that a white guy who seemed to be the Manager was nice and tried his best to assist everywhere...the servers were the most unprofessional ones.

LOVE this place!! Food is always good...never have problems with that. Now with that said, the waitress did put her hands in container for our sauce.... We had to ask for different ones.... Outside of that.. all good 👍

When visiting any upscale restaurant, I normally expect there will be a long wait. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a VERY charismatic young lady, Jenny, and we were sat within 10 minutes (not long at all, I was expecting an hour wait honestly). Our drink order was taken within 3 minutes and we had 6 drinks on the table within minutes. They observed all rules and had signs posted for social distancing, everyone was wearing masks etc.In conclusion, looking at some of the other reviews, This place went ABOVE AND BEYOND our expectations and we plan on returning this weekend for yet another excellent experienceHibachi doesnt take 5 minutes, if thats what your looking for, go get some Mcdonalds. If you want an experience that will knock your socks off, go see Jenny and the staff at Wasabi.

Doesnt honor reservations and can not be honest about wait times. People kept closely together while waiting instead of taking numbers or even names to reduce the crowd. Not COVID safe, or really even fire safe, in the conditions.

The food was cool. The service sucked badly! There was no bartender and the waiter that tried to make my drink didn’t make the drink well. On top of that, Wasabi didn’t even have my preferred liquor. Leo, our chef, made the visit worthwhile.

Came here for my birthday and weve been here a few times and enjoy the food and service and always do Hibachi experience. However, today we got hit with 18% gratuity for a party of 4. Our server, nor any staff mentioned anything about having to pay this just because 6 people were at the table. We had already tipped our chef. The other 2 people at the table were strangers and not a part of our party. I feel this was very sneaky and deceptive and if this is some new policy you should tell your customers upfront and have this on your website. The other party at our table were also very upset about it but staff told them the manager was not there. Also, as Im now reading other reviews, they are saying the same thing about getting hit with 18% gratuity for small parties. This means this issue still has not been dealt with efficiently. Very disappointing.

This is my favorite go to for my Birthday. The fried rice compares to no other hibachi steakhouse and comes with the meal no extra charge. I would give the food a 5 but only giving a four because the decor and restaurant could be updated and cleaner. I love this place, best around.
