Historically I have taken my bike to the LBS where I bought it. Ive never been thrilled with their service department. Their service appointments are 2-3 months out unless you bought a $12k bike from them. I have to take it back in after every service because there is always something not right. And they charge an arm and leg for nearly everything.I decided to give Sports Basement a try when I snapped a rear derailleur shift cable. Called before arriving to make sure they had appointments. Greeted immediate upon arrive for a quick drop off. The bike was ready the next day; before they promised to have it ready. Okay, great experience. Road it for a couple of weeks, the shift indexing is perfect. Major thumbs up.Now that I know how awesome this shop is, I decide to go back and get my tubeless ready wheels converted. Same fantastic experience. Ready the next day, everything is done perfectly. Ride a couple of days to confirm everything is done right. Really happy.BEST PART their prices are seriously affordable! I put off the tubeless conversion for a long time because it was insanely expensive at my former LBS.The staff and mechanics here rock. Im super picky about my bikes. Theyre my new go to shop. When I need a new bike, looking here first too.

Never been to a Sports Basement before and I will absolutely be back. Was looking for a pair of hiking shoes and thought I knew it all. I didn’t. Bruno broke through my “I’m just looking” default response and changed my feet forever by educating me on shoe fit. I’m now changing all the shoes in my closet in response to his expertise ... That guy is an all star and deserves a promotion. I’ll be back to buy all my new shoes at this location just because of him!

My experience was excellent! Bruno helped me to better understand the mechanics of my feet; assisting me to better understand what type of shoe would best serve my exercise needs. Our wives surprised us buying 4 Bikes from Novatos SB last week, thanks to the help of super Bike Dept Staffer Jack. He was successful wrangling the bikes from different SB Stores in 3 days and we marked this anniversary as the FUNNEST one, riding the bikes all over Marin. Within an hour of arriving to pick up the bikes, Jack had us outfitted with a bike rack/trailer hitch and helmets. Thanks for exceptional service from all the members at Novatos SB, and especially Jack! Well be back!!

We rented backpacks and tents for an overnight, and want to make a shout out to the Novato store. Austin in the rentals dept provided excellent info re meal selection, tips on packing our gear, and general camping dos/dont - good reminders coming from an experienced outdoorsman from Alaska. Also, had a great convo with another SB staffer re the many differences in protein bars carbs vs proteins and when to best eat them :) . Lastly after we returned the equipment, we forgot a pair of sweat-pants in a backpack which he kindly handed us when we returned to the store the following day. Hooray to Sports Basement staff!

Great store and staff. Have an upcoming camping trip and Austin at SB Novato was great. Answered all my questions about jetboil, freeze dried food and tents. My gear is getting old and time for a few upgrades. Austin is my guy! Will defiantly be going to SB Novato for all my camping needs. SB is lucky to have such a knowledgeable guy that is fun to talk to.Update: went back and got the MSR windburner, north face tent and a sleeping pad. Austin wasn’t there but I loved his recommendations. Thanks again SB Novato.

What makes this place are the staff. They are absolutely amazing and incredibly helpful! We only had a half hour last night before closing to get all our things, and the staff helped us navigate through locations and sizing in a heartbeat. It’s like a friendly requirement is part of the hiring process and I love it!

Went to Sports Basement to purchase a new Bladder for my Blackburn/HydraPak. I asked girl at the front check in station and she directed me to the stand. On my way to the kioskI heard her radio a coworker that I was on my way and he met me there to help explain the different brands. I liked the prompt attention and assistance this store gives its customers. I have never been disappointed whether its the store in Novato, Walnut Creek or Sunnyvale.

Shout out to TJ and the bike shop crew. I did not purchase my full suspension mountain bike from there, but nonetheless, TJ helped me pick out an excellent replacement part, ordered it for me, gave timely updates on when it would arrive and accurately scheduled a day when they could install. Best part, I dropped my bike off in the afternoon of the scheduled install date and they had my bike done next day so that I could hop back on the trail! Really amazing customer service, communication, and turn around time despite the busy bike season!

Sid (Cid?) is the man. He was extremely knowledgeable, patient and honest in helping us pick out snowboard gear for a first timer. He went above and beyond and has great people skills and kept the stress low and smooth. Keep up the great work and give this guy a raise!

I was having a great day untill I got to the register at Sports Basement. The young girl at the front door was very nice and friendly, but Andy the cashier was a completely different story. I have been working retail for over 13 years. Supervised at Target, Kmart, Sprouts Farmers Market. I felt Andy was very homophobic and belittled me with his poor attitude towards me. He didnt greet me or say goodbye. He did not even listen to what I had to say, just a what came out of his mouth. I recall a few years ago having a free email membership, and when I asked him about that he just said I dont know. I left the store with a bad taste in my mouth, which is a shame because they have good merchandise. I immediately called corporate and informed them about my experience. I really hope there will be some coaching with Andy about how to treat people.

I love this place, but our rental experience was not great. It took a long time-, long line and long procedure. There was hardly any fitting time or information on fit. My child ended up in boots that were too small, she had numb feet both days. Many lessons learned. I would recommend a rental manager on busy rental days (ie ski week, spring break, etc.). Someone to move the line along and assist rental associates in using the system. Perhaps staff were new, more training? I dont know. All were nice, but the overall experience this year was long and we got a bum deal on fitting. An expensive mistake...when paying a lot to ski to have boots that dont work ruins the fun.

Was a bit of a logistical nightmare getting our gear even though we had paid/reserved ahead of time. They couldnt find the reservation at first, then charged my husband an additional boot rental even though I had already paid for it. Took him over an hour to get everything. I guess ski week is that way tho.We got gear for 2 kids (skis, ski boots, snow boots and poles). The gear was good although one pair of boots was really old and missing a screw on the clasp but ended up not breaking (thankfully) as we didnt notice until we were up in Tahoe! Yikes! Good news is that they were SUPER nice when we returned the gear. I showed them the boot with the screw issue and without missing a beat and mentioned that I thought we were charged twice for one of the boot rentals and the guy helping us handed me a receipt with a full refund for one of our rentals - that was beyond anything I was expecting.I love Sports Basement and their customer service is awesome. Even though it didnt start off great this time, it ended well and we had a great ski trip anyhow. They take good care of people and go above and beyond. I will remain a loyal customer :) Super glad that they are in Marin now! I will continue to get all my outdoor gear at Sports Basement.

Sports Basement Novato has the best, most consistent customer service! Every visit I am always greeted, and once on the floor I usually have at least two encounters with staff asking if I need any help. If I do they follow thru until we find what I am looking for or adopt one of the good suggestions that they will usually provide if necessary. It is always a positive experience shopping in the Novato location.

We love sports basement! They have made the shopping experience seamless and safe despite the corona virus hurdles. Prices are great and staff is even better. Sports basement used to be out go to for everything snow and camping related, now I have added the bike department to my go to for all mountain bike related things :)

Time-after-time this store is one of the best retail establishments. The immediate greeting when you enter the store sets the tone. The helpful staff makes a large store (with fabulous inventory!) seem small and manageable. Recently, a staff member (Susie) led us through options with pleasant ease. She zeroed in and narrowed options that worked. She saved us stress, time, and money. Thats why we drive out of our way to Sports Basement Novato. Thank you and stay the course.

My go-to place for ski gear and outdoor equipment. I always use them for service on my skis and boards because its quick and good service. Unfortunately when I dropped my skis off and marks before covid shut down I forgot when things open back up to go get them. I now moved for 6 to 8 months during the work from home period to save some of the enormous Bay area rent so when they called for me to pick them up I panicked because I was seven states away. I should have expected consistent with all my prior experiences this would be no problem and they would take care of me. Sid and his buddies in the ski shop hooked me up and shipped them to my new house in Pennsylvania. Ill be back in 8 months and Ill definitely continue being a customer!

The Novato team did an excellent job finding me the equipment I needed when the sizing of their current inventory was too small. They called the Santa Rosa store and had it on my new board in one day. They also reached out to me via text to let me know when it was ready. Very happy with the service and response time.

Recently had to do a curbside pickup because my schedule didnt line up for me to shop there. FYI, they may not have the items at the store and will ship them from their other stores to the pickup location.I was temperature checked before I went into the store; I appreciate the precautions that they are taking during this time. Cassidy helped me with my pick up order and I had a pleasant experience.

Went to pick up a mens bike that was transferred from Santa Rosa, and was prepared to encounter glitches. But nope, pick up was smooth and easy just as ordering had been... It was hot, we all wore masks, but the friendly and efficient service was on clear display throughout the process, from finding the bike to getting a retroactive credit for the basementeer discount. Taras help with loading the the bike was icing on the cake. This is our second bike purchase from Sports Basement and wont be our last.

Great store and staff

Lots of inventory to select from here and very helpful staff! They also take your temperature before entering which always makes you feel a little bit safer shopping during the pandemic. My only complaint is that things can run a little expensive here however I wouldnt expect cheap prices at any outdoor supply store nowadays such as Any Mountain or REI.

The location has really great COVID precautions set up in place so I felt very safe coming into and shopping around the store. Regarding my actual in-store experience all the employees were really friendly and helpful, especially Kirk who was very knowledgeable and helped me out a ton!

Easy to find our specific sports needs, but better yet, the Novato Sports Basement should be cheered for following very strict asepsis Covid control PRIOR TO anyone entering the store and while in the store. Cudos!

The staff was very helpful in helping us select the best rental clothing for our ski trip. They also allowed us to take the clothing a day early. The clothing was outstanding - actually too good given the weather was warmer than we expected. Would not hesitate to rent from them again.

Had a wonderful experience with Austin! He was beyond helpful at explaining the various levels of ski boots and finding the perfect pair for me. He took his time and I never felt that he had other places to be. In the end he too was so happy for me when I shared with him my upcoming CO trip and how excited I am to use my new boots.

I had my first experience in this store today and I loved it! Super nice team, caring and knowledgeable! EK helped me with the ski pants and jacket and called her co-worker to help me with the helmet and goggles! She spent so much time with me and helped me like a friend which I really appreciate it she ordered my jacket that was a last one in the whole company! Overpriced, as in exponentially so, and generally staffed with untrained and unknowledgeable personnel. Most extreme and unfriendly covid restrictions Ive seen in the Bay area. Even more restrictive that the gov mandated.

I was in with my girlfriend yesterday, and as with previous visits, the service is just outstanding! Gerald helped find her a perfect pair of shoes within her very strict parameters, sent her to a couple other departments, and helped me locate a sports nutrition product I couldnt find on my own. Gerald is a real asset to this store!!!

Well the bike mechanic was accommodating. I bought two new tires, front was flat. 35 minutes to replace tires, mechanic was on phone a lot. One on basement line the other on speaker phone with buddy. Up shot when I got home the rear tire was flat. I assumed he neglected to put air in tire. I pumped up the tire and it became flat in less than 30 minutes. I regularly bike ride to smart train and then to work. Today I had to drive to workJeff De Boi

Elizabeth was such a help. She helped with my return and then went with me to help me find another jacket that worked better for me. She kept all of my new finds by her cash register. I came into your Novato store yesterday and had to look around the store to find a gal who directed me to a dude with a french accent who worked in the mens athletic/running shoe dept. I told him that I was looking for a replacement for my 2018 Brooks Cadence 7 shoes. He gave me 1 box with the neutral stability brooks which had absolutely no heel cup and no stability strips which looked flimsy. The other Shoe was the Brooks Ghost and this was more like a cross between my ASIC GT 2000 7s and my last pair of Brooks. Service in the shoe dept isnt what it used 2 be because I had to fit myself and walk/run on them and Frenchie disappeared.I did get my discount so all wasnt lost plus some new energy supplement!The checkout was quick however they need 2 work on their customer service!. Next time maybe I will wear my Blonde wig n the service could be better!

This is the way of the future with sports sales and such, they have everything when it comes to sports... the only downside is that they could have actual athletes working in stores that are more hands on with the customers. This way the consumers are lead in the proper direction when it comes to playing the actual sport!Other than that Sports Basement is where its at...

All of the staff were helpful; I ended up working with Gerald even though I was not in the market for shoes; he was able to help me with apparel and accessories. I also noticed what a complete array of water and shake bottles you have available at SB -impressive!

Great selection of sporting goods. Ive been buying my kids baseball stuff there and have always found what I need. The prices are only slightly higher than they are on Amazon so I am happy shopping there. The staff have always been very helpful, too.

I highly recommend Sports Basement in Novato! My family went in on a Saturday morning to get my son sized for a board rental for an upcoming trip. Max was super helpful with that process but the real customer service came when he helped us pick out the right cargo carrier for our car and our families needs. He spent time going over dimensions, models, features, calling stores for inventory etc. The day ended with me driving off with the stores floor model that he and a fellow coworker helped mount on my car, and they didn’t just mount it, they showed ME how to do it and gave me some tips and tricks for loading it. Sidd is currently tuning up our boards and we’ll back for all of our sporting goods needs. Thanks for the outstanding and friendly customer service Max and Sidd!!

It was my first time at the Novato store. Previously I had been to several of their stores in San Francisco and Berkeley. I love the atmosphere of this store. Very friendly and welcoming staff (I was there for the snow fest where they were giving out lots of goodies, and had a staff member take me to that part of the store where it was taking place despite telling the employee I knew how to get there). Ample and top quality products grouped together for ease of comparison. Great shoe department and great service (I purchased the most comfortable pair of walking shoes).

After a product I had ordered for my wife for Xmas had an unfortunate delay in delivery to the Store, Armin, Bruno and team went out of their way to find it and then call me and confirm my address and personally deliver the product to my house in the pouring rain right in time for Christmas Eve. Stellar service, consummate professionals and awesome store overall. SB has earned my business and my family’s business for all our sporting needs.

I am recovering from an injury that has prevented me from exercising. Thinking an e-bike might be the answer, I went to Sports Basement in Novato. Raph, in the bike department listened to my concerns and fitted me with the perfect e-bike. Raph took the time to make sure the bike was adjusted correctly for me and then helped me to learn biking accommodations for my injury. I am now riding 15 miles a day and feeling great. I have returned to Sports Basement for further advice and each time Raph has been incredibly knowledgeable and helpful! Also, the e-bike I purchased from Sports Basement is top notch for a reasonable price.
