Marilyn helped me identify some of my primary interests and abilities. As a result, I am more clear on the aspect of my field I want to pursue. After about a year of working with her, I was decided enough to go about my career related actions alone.I would recommend Marilyn Fettner to anyone who needs help identifying what they want from a vocation.
I met Marilyn in the beginning of summer 2020 when I was starting to think about attending graduate school. I wanted to get back into psychology, which I studied in undergrad, and was unsure how to approach this. I was working in sales at the time and was still hesitant to leave this field and felt lost. Marilyn helped me to better understand myself and my future goals with assessments/online tests and worksheets we talked through at our meetings. She helped guide my research of what is possible with a higher degree in psychology and the differences between social work and counseling. Our conversations were very beneficial and she provided me with many contacts which helped in my information interviewing of counselors, social workers and psychologists. Marilyn ultimately helped me to feel confident in my decision to move out of ad sales and commit to applying to a Psy.D program in clinical psychology. She then helped with my application process and assisted in my essay writing. I am happy to share that I will be beginning a five year program to earn a Psy.D in the fall of 2021 - all thanks to Marilyn! She is very kind, organized and professional and I genuinely enjoyed our time together, even though it was over zoom! I will always be grateful for how much she helped teach me about myself and will definitely go back to her in the future if I need to!
As a therapist and consultant for organizations, I come across many career coaches and counselors. There are very few professional career counselors who I would recommend as highly as Marilyn Fettner. Not only is she skilled in objectively assessing a client’s needs, aptitudes and interests but she has the gift to see past the objective data and tune into the person behind the tests. She also is a remarkable trainer and coach using her years of experience in the corporate world to help clients ready themselves for interviewing as well as helping them learn the skills necessary to thrive in their jobs. I have referred people to Marilyn - from those just starting out in their career to those people who have worked for years and are looking to the next step. After working with Marilyn, they have reported that the experience was extremely valuable both in the present and learning skills to take them into the future.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Marilyn for nearly a decade. I have only positive things to say related to her both as a person and as a career coach and counselor. Marilyn is widely known as an expert life coach and for her career counseling throughout the Chicago area. She is passionate about what she does and is a true professional. I would highly recommend her to family, friends, or anyone else needing help personally or professionally.
Waste of my time and money! Didn’t even give me the highlands abilities battery or any other career tests. Just told me to go on indeed and look for jobs. Wasted almost $9,000! The only thing she did was make a resume for me-I saw her for 11 months and got a resume for $9,000! After Marilyn stopped working with me I reached out to Eastern Illinois University for resume help and a career counselor made a beautiful resume and cover letter for me in only 5 days! There are also professional resume writers and cover letter writers on linkedin that charge less than $250 and they don’t waste your time. Marylin would tell me to go on indeed and look for jobs when I was paying her $190 per session. She doesn’t accept people who smoke marijuana either which is funny because it’s legal and her husband built a medical marijuana dispensary across from Old Orchard in Skokie-LOL.After 11 months seeing Marilyn she told me she got a lawyer and couldn’t see me anymore! (Which I’m still confused about considering I was nothing but nice) She said she couldn’t work with me because I smoke marijuana.I am happy to say that since Marylin gave up on me I turned my life around and trade options and stock Full time! I got fired from my job at Home Depot in March 2020 and turned 8 thousand dollars into $250 thousand in the last 5 months!I smoke marijuana every day and not only does marijuana help me focus-it also helps me think deeper! I have more than 800 followers on stocktwits on 3 accounts! I give out options trades and swing trades on stocktwits—my profile is @Donald38!I smoke marijuana every day and have made more money in the past 4 months than the average American makes in 6 years! If Marylin didn’t give up on me and get a lawyer-I wouldn’t be where I am today!Working for myself is the best feeling!I am also working on a book about how you can turn your life around in the darkest of times! I also talk about the use of marijuana and peoples misunderstanding of the plant.
Ive worked with Marilyn for a long time and can not say enough wonderful things about her. Shes a great listener, she is responsive when I reach out and shes incredibly passionate about what she does. I would highly recommend Marilyn.
I saw Marilyn for a period of several months after realizing that I was no longer a good match to my chosen career field. I had worked for the same company ever since I graduated from college, and while I was very comfortable there, I felt an itch to spread my wings and do something more authentic.Marilyn was wonderful because she blended practical tools and assessments with a deep emotional sensitivity to the fear that can accompany such dramatic life change. Her background as a licensed counselor was invaluable when combined with her no-nonsense, business-like, well-figure-this-out-together career coach attitude. Such a great balance! She truly enjoys what she does and cares about her clients.Although no one has a magic wand and change does not happen overnight, seeing Marilyn is, in my opinion, the first solid step to uncovering your true passion. Im sure everyones journey unfolds differently in a way that is just right for them, and I can definitely say that this was the case for me. :)Happy coaching!
I went to Marilyn for career coaching in order to identify and transition into a new career path after my children were old enough to start school. It was a troubling time for me as I wasnt sure what my next steps would be. Marilyn is a sensitive, supportive, and talented counselor. Her instincts about what I needed during each session were spot on. Her approach helped me move on to the next phase of my life with confidence and newfound knowledge of myself. I am forever grateful for the time I spent and work I did with Marilyn!
