John is very knowledgeable and does great work. Has repaired many things for me from refoaming and rebuilding speakers, fixing a turntable and cleaning multiple receivers including an old tube radio. Highly recommended

John fixed up and re-foamed my jbl 4425 studio monitors and completely re-did my Sony amplifier. Both came out amazing. They were factory quality and both work/ sound incredible. I could not be happier and will be going back next time I need work done. Highly suggested!

Picked up a pair of early Infinity RS7s that had the woofer surrounds in bad shape and the Emit tweeters were working when they wanted to. About a year ago, they reformed the woofers, cleaned, and fixed any issues I was having with the tweeters/x-overs. John and Mark are probably the most knowledgeable in the business. A year later, these RS7s still sound amazing and hopefully for years to come! Thanks guys!

Let me tell you a story. 25 years ago I was in a stereo store shopping for a CD player. Suddenly, I heard the most amazing speakers. I had to find out what they were. When I asked the price, I was told $2000.00 each. The next week, I opened a savings account at the local credit union and started saving from every pay check. Four years later, I owned those speakers. Jump forward to today. The surround on the woofers were virtually gone and the life had gone out of the speakers. I auditioned several speakers and actually found two different speakers that I enjoyed, but again about $4500 for a pair. Hey, I have discriminating taste. Upon further research I found Speakerworks. Well, let me tell you, my speakers may actually sound better than when new. The surround on the woofers was replaced and all the electronics were replaced with top tier components. Was it cheap? No! But it was the best money I have ever spent for my system. OMG these speakers sound good!!!

Im not always satisfied with new hifi equipments. They used cheap parts and used sound engineers to perfect them. I know John since 1997 so no questions about this guy skills. I decided to upgrade my 10 year old NHT classic three and Jolida tube integrated amp that I bought from John. He replaced the factory cheap X-OVER parts to the new much better parts. After three weeks of wait. Speakers back to me and Im not even recognized the sound. Speakes are a remarkable improvement in aspect. More on body and punch (color). It has a huge soundstage, excellent dynamics, remarkable midrange and a aesthetic. Im really happy with new upgrade.Excellent job John/Mark.

An absolutely amazing shop and incredible skill to behold. Van just replaced foam surrounds for all 4 woofers of my venerable pair of L150As. The woofers I received back look brand new and sound impeccable. Though skilled at audio myself, there is no way I could center them with such precision. While more than reasonable in terms of cost, the man clearly does not take shortcuts, both the materials and workmanship are top. At the shop, I listened to his own designed and built from scratch speakers. Unreal. Dont think twice.

I had my speakers repaired here by John. Dude is as awesome as they come. He rewound blown coils and replaced capacitors with better quality. After 3 years, the speakers still rock like new. Very reasonable price for the quality of work as well.

Had a 10 sub that needed a new surround. Work was done quickly. Will definitely come back if I need other speaker repairs.

John Van is one of the smartest people Ive spoken with in this business. His audio knowledge is encyclopedic. He also makes his own line of speakers called the Silhouette and the Quartet. Both of which will blow away high end audiophile speakers from a sound quality and price standpoint.

John is amazing, hell go out of his way to help! Great quality at a affordable price! No problems at all! He is one of those good old fashion business! If you have anything speaker related drop it off and dont worry!!!

John fixed my 25+ year old Altec Lansing speakers. Hopefully good for another 25 years. Work was done quickly and at a reasonable price.

I recently purchased an AR90 pair. Both mids and all 4 woofers needed restoration. John did the restoration and verification tests on all 6 speakers including an extensive rework on one of the woofers. They are all back in the enclosures and sound great. Turnaround was less than a week. Very satisfied.

My relationship with John goes back a few years. He is definitely one of the most knowlegible people in the audio business that I have had the pleasure of knowing. Definitely an individual that wont fill you with a lot of bull just to entice you to buy a high profit piece of audio equipment. But his crowing glory is his speaker designs, of which I am a proud owner of two pair of his absolute best bang for the buck speakers that have performed flawlessly for quite a few years now. His designs still remain the speaker to beat in todays market. Assuming of course, that a person has a well tuned pair of ears and a educated appreciation for quality music venues. You wont find John at any audio shows because he doesnt have a production oriented line of speakers. Everything he does is, or can be fine tuned to an individuals sense of audio reproduction rightness. Also be prepared to experience one of Johns little audio secrets, incorporated in all of his designs. When it comes to a speaker design that can truly reproduce a holographic sound stage, his concept, out performs anything I have ever experienced. And dont be put off by his humble surroundings. Go to his small shop and be prepared to be amazed. I hope John will be around for many years to come after the also rans disappear from the market. As far as Mike HF is concerned, remember, ONLY GOD IS PERFECT. Knowing John for so many years, your experience is not typical of the quality of work that Van L does. I am also shocked to hear that John would have charged a fortune for a less than perfect repair job. There must have been something else a-foot.

Great service quick turn around good prices

Bad experience refoaming my ESS speakers. They used the incorrect foams. They charged me extra to modify incorrect foams. The CORRECT foams are available and are very cheap on the internet! They got sloppy with the glue as well! Not impressed! And to add insult to injury they charged me a fortune!

I had my pair of Dynaco A25s bookshelf speakers restored and Van l Speakerworks went above and beyond my expectations. This is a place that obviously cares about sound i was skeptical how much a rehab would help, then blown away by the results.VanLSpeakerworks not only restored my broken speakers but went above and beyond to make then better then new. Exceptional work no other audiophile shop in chicago does better work.

Had to fix my bands JBL SX100 speaker that had buzz in it. Job done for a fair price, within the promised timeframe. Will use again.
