Weve had a great experience with Sylvan. My daughter has grown by leaps and bounds with increased enthusiasm about learning. She was always excited to go to tutoring sessions. I really appreciated their communication and progress updates. As we left the parking lot after her last session, she exclaimed, If I ever need help again you have to bring me back here!

Sylvan Newport News was the most wonderful place with even more wonderful staff & teachers! My daughter was a challenge from the beginning. With the support of these wonderful teachers & staff members, my daughter went from a 2nd grade Math and Reading level to now on 4th grade level where she needed to be. Her attitude of hating all things school has changed completely to not only loving school, but having an abundance of confidence to do the work. . She no longer complains about school or having homework, she enjoys it so much. I am forever grateful to everyone at this center. They had a ton of patience to get my daughter to where she is today, they never gave up on her! Thank you Deborah and Staff!!

So far my daughter love it here. It has a very comprehensive reward system when the kids are doing well. It also helps them learn about money management as the kids get tokens that are spent on small items. They conduct a very thorough assessment and start your child right where they need to be started. It is fairly expensive but so far with my daughter who has struggled with reading, she is starting to get better after every session.

My daughter has truly enjoyed her experience at Sylvan Learning Center in Newport News/City Center. Her confidence and reading ability has improved greatly. We are a busy family and Sylvan and their staff have been extremely accommodating when it comes to scheduling. The team is professional and knowledgeable. Our child was falling behind in 4th grade math even with extra efforts at home. I had heard of Sylvan for many years and felt that their tutoring systems/methods should be tried and true. I liked that they did an initial baseline assessment to decide where to start since his problems were not easy to pinpoint. Yes, they are on the pricey side, especially compared to, say, hiring an individual who does it part time on the side, but I it is not really comparing apples to apples, especially if you are looking for structured learning combined with personal (or very small group) level of attention.In general, the folks at this office appear to genuinely care and it shows.

My grandson has been using Sylvan Learning going on two years to help with his reading. He started in 1st grade which we ID he did not know his sight words (his pre test showed him at an pre K level). He spent 4 hr a week even during the summer working with the staff on his reading. Im please to say that he will be moving on to 3rd grade (way to go Robert) next year all thanks to the extra help Sylvan gave him. The one on one time he needed which he cant get at school gave him the confidence he needed. Yes Im a very proud grandparent. Keep up the awesome work and will defiantly refer your programs to those parents who are having issue with their kids learning.

My daughter enjoys going to Sylvan and I enjoy the ability to have them work with our ever changing schedules. The staff is amazing and is there to help in every possible way. I honestly can say if you are looking for a learning center this is the place to go!

I highly recommend Sylvan Learning Center of Newport News - Yorktown. Since going to Sylvan, my sons confidence in Math has improved tremendously, so much that he is even challenging himself in higher level Math. I am truly impressed with their teaching methods and my son loves it.

I had a good experience many years ago and was shocked at how poor the results were this summer when my grandson attended. He actually fell further behind in math while under their very expensive services (then improved dramatically when placed with a private tutor). His homework was done incorrectly but approved by his Sylvan tutor. A very costly mistake that I hope others who read this review will avoid. This is not the Sylvan I once knew. I would give them a -100 if there was that option.

I see my very honest review of the services my son received were taken down by the owner. In the interest of protecting other potential clients I’ll leave my review again. My son went to Sylvan and not only did he not improve while he was seen there, but his math skills actually slipped. His homework was done incorrectly on several occasions while at Sylvan. And the work was checked by one of their staff memebers. As soon as I pulled him out and placed him with a private tutor his skill set dramatically improved, and only after 2 sessions. Tons of money wasted on just a very poorly run program.

My husband and I love this program. We have seen a significant successful change in our son since we have connected to Sylvan Learning Center Newport News- Yorktown.

Sylvan has been a wonderful resourse for my daughter. She struggled in 2nd grade and is now flourishing in 3rd grade in all subjects. Not only did her grades improve, her self confidence at school is so much higher. I would highly recommend any family giving Sylvan a try.

Sylvan Learning Center of Newport News staff is works with each child to provide the best tutoring sessions. The tutors work to provide each child with a helpful and supportive environment according to learning needs.

We paid and outrageous amounts of money in the summer to improve his reading, according to the test he was behind (which we knew) and they told us that for the time he finish the program he will me on a 3rd level reading, well he is not even as his level, we did 60 section and his improvement was about 20-33%. When we asked the lady said that we were misinformed because the lady who tested him didnt do the calculations right.Of course I won’t be found in their/ your Data because it was my grandson, anyhow,I saw the msg below today 01/30/18, and called the Lady who answer ( I won’t give her name for now” and I believe she is the owner) said she was going to look into the review and call me.. I will be waiting for that call

My children attended a summer robotics class and LOVED it!! Everyday when class was over my youngest (8 years old) would say he wished it was already the next day because he didnt want to wait for the next class. They are looking forward to the coding classes.

My 8 year old has been attending Sylvan Learning Center in Newport News since she was 4. She recently finished 2nd grade and tested out for reading on a 5th grade level. She has now moved on to Math for the last 6 months and absolutely loves the challenge and new problems - all of the teachers have different strengths and she loves each one of them.My 4 year old son just started the reading and cant wait to get there every week to earn tokens for prizes. Hes already readingWe are so thankful that our kids have this secondary education to enhance their public school learning experience.

Very professional staff

We are only a few weeks in, but we have seen a small improvement in reading. The pandemic cut my sons kindergarten year short and we have been doing school at home since. Not being around other kids for peer observation has been tough, so we enrolled for that as well as a professional hand at getting him to the 2nd grade level for reading. He enjoys going and everyone is very nice.

My son was struggling through the whole pandemic last year. This year we contacted Sylvan learning Center for the back to school transition, better school/homework habits and to work on his GPA. They have done a tremendous job in every expect. He was hesitant to go the first day but now looks foward to going. He has been a straight A student this year with his hard work and their tutoring abilities. He talks positive about his tutor Kevin.Also other tutors that give their help when needed. Deborah who is the coordinator of everything for us. I cannot say enough about her love for the students and helping parents. She shows me nothing but passion and caring that he does his best not only inside their facility and school but his baseball too . My son is involved with sports and she goes above and beyond helping with working around his schedule. I cannot thank them enough for what they do. My sons life has changed for the better, both in education and confidence. Thank you so much!!
