We went to him for years when we lived in Newburyport, and our daughter even returned there after wed all moved out of the area.Im an engineer, so I can be a tough customer for a mechanic. Andrews diagnoses are invariably sound. When he presents your options, hes super-clear about how urgent each item is safety-wise, how long you can hold off without causing other issues, and the range of possible fixes, including whether its reasonable to use reconditioned parts vs buying new.Plus hes really nice. I brought my car here to be looked at. They were extremely organized, polite and efficient. I was able to get a loaner car right there and kept it until repairs were complete. I would recommend them to anyone I know.They keep you extremely involved and aware of what they feel is needed to be done. They us an app to send information, pictures and updates while working on your car. Was very pleased with there service.

The owner tried to take advantage of the fact that the car was towed there. He tried to charge me 3 times what it would cost to replace the water pump. I had the car towed to my mechanic, 50 miles away. And still saved over$450. Including the towing.A dishonest repair shop. Dont go there.

They took my car in immediately, and when a new tire needed to be ordered the work was completed by the next morning. When my CD player conked out on my 2013 car, I called State Automotive Repair just to get information on cost to replace. Not only did Andrew take a sincere interest in helping me, he asked me to take a photo of the CD/radio player so he could know just what I needed. He made several calls to compare prices for me and got back to me promptly. I have never had such an avid interest in a car problem. I booked the replacement, and was totally satisfied with the result. There were no hidden costs and I was even given a loaner car for the duration. I would totally recommend this business to anyone. Is it possible to give more than 5 stars? My car starting breaking down en route from Maine back home to New York...on a summer Friday at 4:45pm! I got a quick fix at a place in Maine but the car acted up before out of the state. I just made it to friends near Newburyport late on a Friday night. State Automotive was one of only a few places open on a Saturday morning. The owner Andrew was patient and thorough. He was hoping the problem was small enough to get me on my way that Saturday but unfortunately it required parts to be ordered from 3 places. I was able to rent a car across the street. It took under Monday afternoon to fully assess the problem(s) which Andrew not only explained in all the detail I requested but sent photos of the damage too. He also willingly spoke with my car technician back in NY who said their work sounded good and the rates were reasonable. I was back to get it at 7am on Wednesday morning. Dana was so gracious and kind to be there ready with car when I was at the door at 6:58am. The State Automotive technician even stayed late on Tuesday to assure it would be ready for me. I got back to NY safe and sound.From beginning to end, they rocked it. If I lived locally, Id definitely be a regular.

This is a clean, efficient service centee. They changes my oil and did a thorough inspection of my Frontiers major systems. Andrew explained everything in basic, easy to understand language. They have a courtesy car available. I am an electrician, I use my truck for work and cannot work without my truck. State Automotive will keep my truck running well. Im new to Newburyport and my 11 year old car (gulp) died. AAA recommended State Street Automotive and they couldnt have been more accommodating. Cant thank State Automotive enough! We had a nightmare of a situation when our AC flooded and we didnt realize until the smell was awful! We went to Ira Toyota (PS dont go there) and they told us we needed to replace the carpet and do all this work - it was going to cost us thousands on a car we havent had for long with only 30k miles on it. We were so stressed. Not to mention we had the car checked out 2 weeks before and i guess this takes awhile to happen to the degree it did. State Automotive kept our car for extra days with no charge and even offered us a courtesy vehicle to use. The carpet is completely dry and doesnt smell at all! Weve been taking our two cars to Andrew and his excellent staff for many years now. One of our cars is a 96 Caravan, which, with their careful maintenance, is running as well as it did when it was newly broken in 20 years ago. After living in Melrose for years, I moved back to Newburyport. I normally service my Honda at my Honda dealership in Everett; they are excellent. Last month they were booked, and I needed a State Inspection pronto. Am very protective of my 2015 CR-Z, so I checked reviews of local car repair shops and was impressed with all I read about State Automotive. I called, a friendly woman immediately picked up the phone, she scheduled me for 8am the next day. I was impressed! Clean and orderly waiting area, respectful service, and on that freezing cold morning, the young woman from the counter gladly added air to my tires with the outside air pump. I was very impressed overall.

Brought my wife’s 2012 C300 in for routine service,and work was completed at a better than reasonable rate and the work was done quickly. On a separate occasion, I had a check engine light, and they helped trouble shoot the glitch. Ran diagnostics and some additional tests, they only charged me a nominal expense... where a dealership would of dinged me for much, much more. It’s nice to know the folks at State Automotive, invest in dialogue, trust and reason to earn your business.

My passenger-side wiper malfunctioned just before a torrential rain storm and I was scheduled to make an 80-mile drive through it. Andrew very kindly stayed late to correct the issue. I was very appreciative, especially when the storm nearly overwhelmed both wipers - I would have had a very tough time on 495 with only one functional wiper blade.

Andrew and the whole State Street Mobil team are really great.It can be so hard to find a trusted mechanic, and I was really fortunate to find them when I moved to Newburyport. How the hell do you feel your gas is worth sixty cents more per gallon than anyone else in a twenty mile radius!? That is gouging. I was born here and all the folks i grew up with have told me not to use you. I have allot of friends that travel that wont be buying gas there. Word of mouth goes along way!

Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, they got me a ride back to my home almost immediately, and they took care of my issues thoroughly while providing documentation for what they were going to do. Overall a great experience, and Ill be using them again!

I’ve been taking my car to State Automotive for over 6 years and have been very impressed both by the level of service and by the honesty of the owner (Andrew). One experience in particular sticks in my mind. During an oil change when my car was about 4 years old, Andrew noted that the car had a leak in the front differential housing. Although my 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty had expired, Andrew said fixing the leak would be covered under the 5-year powertrain warranty and that I should get it fixed by the dealer rather than by his shop. I thought that showed a lot of integrity, and in fact I was able to get the leak fixed for free by the dealer. I would strongly recommend that anyone in the Newburyport area use State Automotive for their car maintenance.

Nice customer service but they have been fleecing my elderly parents for years. Dropped an estimate by half when we didnt bite. Sad to take advantage of people that trust him. Also performed work without permission, therefore we were forced into paying for it. Beware.
