I recently took the Six Week Editing Workshop online and it was the best decision I ever made. The instructors are all professionals working in the Industry. You don’t have to be an experience editor to take this workshop they will teach you everything. By the time I finished the workshop I notice that my resume was getting notice and two months later I was able to land a job as an assistant editor for a video game company
MEWShop is a great stepping stone into post production and over the years has become even more of a resource and support to those who have taken any class with them. Ive known both the owner and president for a decade and they are great people striving to lift students up to reach their potential. I know first hand from being a 6 week alumni, an instructor, and now working as a tv editor which was only a dream when I first called MEWShop 10 years ago to inquire about their classes.
I just read a review by someone named Mary Morelli who has never taken classes at MEW and five months later decided to distort her interactions with the owner. I know theyre distortions, because I have worked with that owner for years and know him to be the kindest, most dedicated, caring person. Is this an attempt by a competitor to hurt their standing? I dont know. But its suspicious and so unfair. This is a great school with great teachers, as well.
Being a fellow educator I know a good instructor when I encounter them. The instructors at MEW are industry professionals as well as seasoned teachers. Manhattan Edit Workshop offers a wide range of classes and is very involved with the filmmaking community!
I took the Six Week Intensive and loved every minute of it. The instructors, Janet Dalton and Mark Chandler, were very knowledgeable and very attentive. Tristan, the schools office manager, was always very solicitous and helpful with every technical issues I had. I took the class online in May/June 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. I wasnt very excited about taking the class virtually, but MEWShop made the transition to online very smoothly and efficiently. They got a lot covered, not only how to work with all the software, but from the history of editing and its technicalities to building resume and cover letters. Ive learned a lot! The only bad part is that its over; the six weeks flew by. I am definitely looking forward to taking more class in the near future.
**Edit-Just look at the owners response and how HE is describing me and my intentions, its very unprofessional and a good indicator of the kind of person HE is and the business HE runs.Rather than answer my questions professionally as a business should, the president decided to insult me and belittle my concerns. There are much better places to take edit classes that actually treat people with respect! DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Manhattan Edit workshop is the highlight of my Professional Development in the summer. I enjoy the small class size, the ability to be creative, and create work I can share with my students & school community. The teachers are fantastic experts who can teach, solve and troubleshoot. You will not be disappointed in your experience here!
Brilliant school. I did the 6 week course and learnt so much, creatively, technically, and great opportunities to follow your own interests too, given the range of the teachers. Totally worth it. I recommend it for super smart people who can learn fast and for those who struggle, and artists who arent very tech savvy, and tech savvy nerds who arent very creative, and everyone in between! So much to learn! And a great environment, cool resources.
Excellent school with teachers who know their stuff and know the industry just as well. Strongly recommend for anyone interested in post-production!
I really enjoy their Sight, Sound, and Story events! Definitely a must!
Exceptional training! Excellent learning environment and led by instructor with a massive amount of industry experience. Being at MEW also allowed for invaluable networking opportunities. Will definitely be back.
Took their editing six-week class and really loved it! The instructors are clearly very knowledgeable about the programs and know exactly what questions to ask to diagnose where your problems are coming from and then how to fix them. We studied a variety of genres from narrative, trailers, comedy, docs, and in the last two weeks got to choose for ourselves which genres to focus on. We also went on a field trip to a production house where we got to talk to the staff there and ask questions, they had a sound mixer come in and talk about his workflow, an acclaimed working editor came in twice and talked about her craft and then critiqued our pieces, and the class was small enough where by the end we had built up our own first little network. At the end of the class they also give you great information, resources, and personal advice on resumes, cover letters, websites, and looking for jobs. Would highly recommend the class for anyone whos looking to jumpstart their career as an editor! Of course eventually finding a job requires a lot of work on your own part, but I really feel like they do their best in preparing and connecting you to people so that you have good chances once you get out.
Best editing courses in NY! By far! Real industry related workshops with hands-on classes and tutors that are actually working in the field. Ive enhanced my skills with them and it only helped my career. No regrets!
Excellent resource with accommodating, intelligent staff. I can recommend MEW highly to any individuals or companies looking to learn digital tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, editing software, and more.
EXCELLENT - I recently took the 6 week intensive course where I learned Avid, Premiere Pro, Final Cut X and a bit of Adobe After Effects. Each student has their own Mac fully equipped with all editing and encoding software to use (no sharing). We had top guest editors like Steve Audette from PBS Frontline speak with us about his editing career (AWESOME) and we were able to pick from a variety of different media to cut our demo reels with. This was great because we were able to tailor our reels to what each of us wanted to do in the future - between features, short form, ads, docs etc. The course is an investment - but it is worth every penny and you will NOT be disappointed with the foundation that you will build here :)
