I am a legally blind person dealing with a combination of ADOA, myopia, and presbyopia. My life had become a complete nightmare of switching between three different corrective lenses depending on whether I wanted to see very near, near, or distance (which to me is 3-15 roughly). I was switching glasses so often that they would sometimes break within weeks. I was not hopeful of there being a solution, but Dr. Weinstein gave me a novel prescription that has reduced the switching from hundreds of times a day to dozens. It might sound stupid, but this is such an enormous enhancement to the quality of my life that I can barely contain myself. I am able to function much more normally, e.g. pay for a cab, respond to a text message, tell the shampoo from the conditioner, etc. without any of the insane glasses-juggling that was previously required. I believe you can only get this type of out-of-the-box thinking and solution-oriented approach at a place that deeply understands the needs of low vision patients. Lighthouse Guild and Dr. Weinstein have far exceeded my expectations. The length of the appointments is the only thing I wish could be improved because I do feel a little rushed there; but I am happy to work around it for the benefit of their expertise.

Probably the most thorough eye exam Ive ever received.Theres nothing worse than feeling rushed when you cant tell if This? is any better than Or this?.Got my retinas checked and according to Dr. Zimmerman, they are lovely. Might be the most photogenic part of me.The receptionists were great, the on premises eyeglass shop even better. This is the best medical service my craptastic insurance has ever covered. The staff made a go at trying to get my lenses replaced in my old frames, but my insurance in all its money wasting wisdom, nixed that. Oh well. When I returned months later to pick them up they returned better that Id left them. Tightening the arms was a nice touch.Lighthouse Guild is top notch.

Sadly, I am forced to downgrade my review; they just hired somebody named Domingo from Catholic charities who is literally one of the most useless individuals I’ve ever encountered after losing my vision! He is hiring indicates to me that this place is a lost cause. Many services for the blind and visually impaired including medical, mental and skills training. Many kind people work and volunteer here; prices for replacement canes and associated supplies are a tad expensive!

Got a therapist who jumped all over me for small things, ( told I would see a psychiatrist there, I asked when will I see him? and she (therapist) became super indignant that I assumed therapist would be a man. Kept talking down to me all the time and scolding. Yuck.

Would have gave 5 stars but when you call your on hold for so... long.... OMG it really tries your patients. Talking about the clinic part. When you leave a message you never get called back. If doctors are wondering why they have so much free time? It may be because of all the patience calls that are either dropped, unanswered and when you do speak to some one after calling 30 times they are always in a rush. Then when you make an appointment its in a week or two.... I thought you guys were busy? oh.. I also experience the call picked up and hang up soooo many times. :( this can make you so mad to give two stars but when I see a Doc they take care of you real good. You guys cant be perfect but you can get who ever answers the phones some training and stop dropping calls. :) Best of luck getting them to stop :(

I wont recommend Lighthouse International because they denied answer to us making an appointment with Dr Lisa Chan-OConnell for 2014s Goldmann Visual Field Test and that is it. We called in 2 days ago to reschedule for Dr Chan OConnell and they said they will call us back and we receive no reply. By today, we called 2 times and its very nooch for not answering the lighthouse. I will no longer being a patient to have visual field test anymore. In the future, I will see somebody to be hitting appointment for Goldmann Visual Field test to see if Im losing vision such as glaucoma and preventing Retinitis Pigmentosa by taking every day Vitamin A and go somewhere else to schedule it. On the 16th of September, I have an appointment right now with Dr Ritch in 60th Street but in the future, I will see somebody who does the new standard of Goldmann Visual Field Test and Electroretinogram for severe Open-Angle glaucoma and HRT (Heildelberg Retinal Topography) to take image and in the future Dr Ritch will decide to perform Laser Cyclophotocoagulation at The New York Eye & Ear Infirmary to lower the pressure if the pressure is no good at all.
