Great teachers, excellent organization of the educational process, high-quality teaching material. I would like to thank the organizers for conducting zoom conferences.
NYBA offers top tier, traditional iaito training. The instructors are very knowledgeable and patient with new students. I also enjoy that new and experienced students often work together. Highly recommend.
Have been a, RSR student for just over a year. Fantastic instruction in traditional Japanese Iaido. Instructors are phenomenal and there are regular international seminars with the head office in Japan.
As someone with little experience in traditional martial arts, I can say that NYBA provides a great entry point into iaido for both experienced and uninitiated folks! This remains to be true throughout these trying times, instructors have taken measures to ensure we are still able to develop ourselves via distance learning at an affordable rate.
Excellent teachers and a fantastic sword art.It is very rare to take a martial and actually get to train with its Grand Master over zoom once a month!
The best Iaido school for Ryushin Shouchi Ryu in North America If you want to learn about the path of the sword
The New York Budo Association is a extremely professional out look into the aspects of Japanese culture through the practice of the art of Iaido; specifically Ryushin Shouchi Ryu, which has its lineage traced back to the Sengoku-Jidai. The spirit of this budo and its perspective is taught with the full knowledge of its instructors and staff and offers great support in perspective of bettering the human condition. Other programs are indeed added for further development and knowledge. A highly respectable group of instructors that put their students first in their teaching of this ancient and beautiful art.
New York Budo Association teaches Ryushin Shouchi Ryu Iaido. A great dojo to learn authentic Japanese swordsmanship led by supportive, friendly and knowledgeable teachers.
It is Great Honour to meet them. They are uniqe. Mitch Sensei is dedicating himself to BUDO. Ikeda Sensei is a legend. Phil Ortiz Sensei is one of my favorite master. He is not judjing any beginners and he is always supporting any atendees at everytime. He is so calm and he is welcoming to everybody. They are so kind and thoughtfull for me just like my dearest Bond Street Dojo... The folks that my Senseis and my Senpais are like family to me. I love you and respect you so much guys...
Very professional,Very friendly people to train with, they will help you with whatever concerns you have with your training. I am honored to train with them.
First lesson was yesterday, eveyone welcomed me and made sure I had all my equipment. Looking forward to working with them in the future. Not just fake ninja techniques or modern budo, this school is teaching real, samurai Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu.
Ive trained at NY Budo Association for over 2 years and found nothing but instructors and classmates who are serious about training, preserving the Ryushin Shouchi Ryu history and most of all dedicated to each other. The people here genuinely care for your success and in some ways feels like a place of belonging and acceptance, a second home for people looking to connect to a special form of martial arts.
This is the real thing. Truly authentic Japanese sword practice with old lineage and contemporary leadership from Japan. You wont find pretend samurais or ninjas here but you will find a dedicated group of practitioners who seek to improve their skills, pass on the tradition, and better themselves through the process. They are also a genuinely nice, friendly and welcoming group of people. If you come prepared to learn, you will be taught.
Extremely dedicated and diverse group.Instructors are volunteer and give their all.People from all groups of life. Men and women of all ages and nationalities.Been privileged to be a member for several years.Highly recommend!!!
Most kind and generous group to help you learn!

Top tier martial arts school. One of four dojos in the entire country that teach this particular style, Ryushin Shouchi Ryu. Very acclimating to ones particular skill level, whether you have martial arts experience or not.
