I have attended several Krav Maga classes through the Krav Maga Institute and have really enjoyed them. The classes are a fabulous workout and I am always happy about how much the classes work my body. Not to mention learning self defense moves is pretty cool! The instructors are all super positive and encouraging and I always leave class in a good mood. I also like that the warm-ups are related to the Krav Maga moves in the second half of the class. With my busy schedule its convenient that there are several locations.Overall Ive really enjoyed the classes because I not only get a good workout but also end up feeling safer on NYC streets. I recommend the Krav Maga Institute to all my friends.

I attended the How to Survive a Bar Fight seminar and I loved it. Mike showed a variety of techniques in different scenarios creating a very engaging and fast-paced atmosphere while at the same time keeping everybody safe. I like his professionalism and outspokenness.I am new to Krav Maga, but I enjoy the classes at the Institute.

For about 8 months Ive been training consistently at Krav Maga Institute NYC and it has been the best decision Ive ever made. Ive become more confident in my skills to protect myself in the streets and I owe it to the great instructors of KMI, I feel more fearless. Theyre always there to answer any questions you have and are always pushing you to keep going when you feel like giving up. The students are also great and friendly and were always pushing each other to do better. The instructors are always changing up the workouts to keep things interesting and fun. Krav Maga has changed my life for the better, I feel stronger and more energetic. So if youre looking to learn Krav Maga, Krav Maga Institute NYC is your best bet and it should be your first and last chose. You wont regret it.

If youre ever in the mood for a great workout and an immediate boost in self esteem, Krav Maga is the answer. The Krav Maga institute NYC has been such a life changer for me. It has taught me integrity, endurance, and has made me a stronger person, physically mentally. My instructors are amazing and very welcoming. They really know how to make the class challenging and exciting. By the end of the class I find myself simultaneously tired yet still energetic, which is a strange but exhilarating feeling and I often wish classes were longer. The only regret I have is not starting Krav Maga sooner!

I train in Krav Maga in California and trained with these guys while visiting NYC. Everyone here works HARD! The students work hard, the instructors work hard. Its awesome to see. Theres an awesome community and they all train with great technique. I definitely recommend KMI if youre looking for a way to build up real self defense skills and confidence!

After trying out three other Krav Maga schools in NY, I found Krav Maga Institute NYC (IKMF) to be the best with its wide range of students and instructors. The techniques taught in class are up to date, the facilities are clean and modern, and the instructors are helpful, supportive, and they dont make me feel stupid if Im slow learning something new in class. As for the locations, my favorite is the upper west side since it is closer to home and usually not to many people in the changing room. My least favorite is the midtown location since the locker/changing room facilities are small and limited.

After witnessing one too many instances on the train where situations got escalated or could have been de-escalated, I decided it time to do a more self-defense style martial art. Keep in mind Ive had years of prior martial arts experience (5+ years combined boxing, kickboxing, etc) and even then I felt that wasnt enough in situations outside of the ring.I had heard about Krav Maga in the past and after doing some research I found Krav Maga Institute. A few reasons I narrowed it down to this particular academy are their availability of classes throughout the week, it is affordable and their locations.I took the Induction class and from then I was hooked. Theres a great community at the academy, the instructors are very supportive and break things down in simple steps, a diverse range of levels in each class, and they do special events/seminars bringing outside experts to the academy. If youre looking for an academy that will teach you solid self-defense techniques, give you good workout along with a great community to boot, then sign up for the Induction class and experience it for yourself.

I rarely give 5 stars to anything in google maps, but this place is totally worth every penny I spent there. Extremely good instructors an a safe environment o learn self defense. However, note that this location is only one of three places where KMI holds their classes and a majority of the classes are downtown at TriBeCa.

Ive studied and tried a bunch of different forms of martial arts throughout my life. Hands down Krav Maga with KMI has been the best. The training is the most effective, efficient, and challenging Ive ever experienced. But that isnt what makes these guys the best: The instructors are amazing. The instructors are enthusiastic, motivating, and really know their stuff.I tried this school after training at another Krav school for a couple of months. I actually left the induction class with KMI thinking it was the best class Ive ever taken. They make everything fun and interesting, its not just repetitive boot camp drills. The training incorporates real-life scenarios and practical techniques. Unlike other martial arts and self-defense systems, there isnt strict hierarchy; the older students are open to help from anyone else, the new students are encouraged to take on advanced techniques from the start. The instructors are open to questions and will always stop to break things down for you if you dont understand.I couldnt recommended it enough.

For two years, I flirted with the idea of trying Krav Maga, but admittedly, I was intimidated by the notion. I thought for sure that I would walk into a class, feel completely out of my element, and make a fool of myself. When I finally got up the courage to give it a shot, I went to my first class at the Krav Maga Institute of NYC, and by the end of that first hour, I was completely hooked.Krav Maga itself is empowering, motivating, and challenging in the best way possible, but what really sucked me in were the people at KMI. The school is like a big family, and they welcomed me in with open arms. The instructors are warm, patient, sincere, and dedicated. When I train with them, I know that they are pushing me hard, while understanding my limits, and that they are ensuring I am as safe as possible both in the class setting and on the street. While the instructors would have been enough to make me feel at home at the school, the students proved to also be kind and supportive, and in training with them, I have gained many wonderful new friends. I could not have asked for a better setting to take on learning this new skill. In the time that I have been training, I have not only improved my ability to defend myself and gained confidence and strength, but I have also gotten in the best shape I have ever been in and improved my general lifestyle.Taking up Krav Maga, especially at KMI, has hands down been one of the best decisions I have ever made, because what started as a hobby I timidly attempted has morphed into a passion that drives me to be a better, stronger, and more independent person.

Ive trained at several Krav Maga schools in the last three years, and KMI is definitely the best. The classes are fun, and the format makes it easy to learn. More time is spent on learning technique than other schools Ive been to (versus focusing on fitness), so you get better, faster. But KMI is really about the instructors. Theyre all amazing, and challenge you every day. Most importantly, they love teaching Krav, and really want you to learn. I organizations are all about people, and I cant recommend this crowd enough.

Im training Krav Maga in The Netherlands and participated in a class of Josh while in NYC for business. It was a very intensive, focussed and fun training. Josh knows his techniques and has some stories to tell as well (USMC).Great thing about Krav Maga is the possibility to train along wherever your are; techniques are based on your natural reflects, so globally aligned.Next time Im in NYC Ill defnitely join another training.Highly recommended!Regards,Mark (P1-level)

I have been a member for about nine months, but I have really been going in earnest for the last six months. It is unbelievable how much I have gotten out of the training. Prior to training in Krav Maga, I had no clue as to how to defend myself - I have never studied any sort of martial art (unless you count a month of karate when I was 8 and one trail jujitsu class as an adult). I believe KM to be an extremely effective way to learn how to take care of yourself, if the need arises. But why KMI, you may ask. Well, the instructors are uniformly quite good and thorough. The classes are conducted very effectively. What is also really cool is that no matter what size the class is, there is always some (or a lot) of individual attention - the classes are never overly large though. In addition, there is a good emphasis on the fundamentals (e.g., always search!), and there is an appropriate pushing of you to the next level.KM training is also a good workout. I have found the people in the classes to be of various levels of fitness, but everyone gets something out of the class (I am a bit of a fitness nut (I usually workout at least six times a week)). In other words, it is great training for those looking to be fit and can be challenging enough for those who are already quite active.I am really glad that I gave this a try nine months ago or so, and I am ecstatic that I remain enthusiastic about it. I try to schedule as many classes as I can, given the constrains of work and family. I highly recommend KMI!!!

After 9 months in to training with KMI I’ve seen everyone from CEOs, lawyers, to young high school students all come for one reason, the ability to walk down the streets of New York with self-confidence in knowing the best way to handle an unfortunate encounter with an assailant. Besides talking about those pesky NY self defense Laws, it’s been great to examine and train in what’s state appropriate self defense.KMI NYC caters to all creeds, colors, small or large body types and doesnt discriminate agents woman training with men. Your most valuable asset in training with KMI is your classmates, so we train hard but keep it safe.Be Confident and stay safeOmar G.

I was looking for a basic self defense class and discovered Krav Maga. The more I researched the more I realized this was exactly what I was looking for. I Chose the krav maga institute of NYC because they are a non-profit dedicated to furthering the practice of krav maga and connected all the way back to the founder. Went looking for confidence defending myself and left with more than i could have hoped for, great instructors all with slightly different styles but all teaching quality information and techniques. They are also cross fit certified so you get a great workout while learning how to protect yourself and your loved ones. Couldnt recommend these guys enough.

When I first started almost a year ago, I did not know how to do the following:- Deal with confrontations- Throw a proper punch- Deflect a punch or knife strike- Get up off the floor without looking like a putz- Successfully execute a choke, but more importantly, how to get out of one- Throw successful kicks without losing balance- How to even hold a proper fighting stance- Neutralize someone that has managed to climb on top of you with intentions to either choke or strike you- Deal with multiple attackersI learned all of this and so much more in the short period of time that Ive been here.I can remember my first day of joining the Krav Maga Institute; I was a little nervous, unprepared, and feeling like a completely clueless newb. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, even though I had expressed the interest of joining a martial arts class for many years. Finally, after doing my research on the krav maga schools around here, I settled on the Krav Maga Institute based on scheduling, locations, and price. They seemed to offer the best schedule that fit my lifestyle, as well as a reasonable price. The founder, Patrick, who is very hands-on, led the induction class that all students are required to attend, and that night I discovered the positive, challenging, and encouraging atmosphere that can be found at this institute.ALL of the instructors are so knowledgeable and helpful, its very difficult to leave a class without learning something new. Aside from focusing on techniques, most of the classes are vicious workouts. I have noticed a difference in strength and endurance in my body, and you never realize how hard your body was working until the day after class. One important lesson that these classes will drill into your head is AWARENESS. Being aware of what is happening around you can mean the difference between life and death. We all hope to never find ourselves in that kind of life-threatening situation, however it is comforting to know that by training we can at least try to prepare ourselves a little more to avoid panic that consumes most. I have found krav maga to be the most practical for an average citizen (as well as military, have you seen the Israeli Defense Forces?!), and the Krav Maga Institute to be the best at teaching it.

Signing up for KMI is one of the best decisions Ive ever made. Having trained in Tae Kwon Do and boxing, I was itching to learn another form of martial arts. I quickly decided that I simply wanted to learn how to handle myself in real world situations where rules don’t apply. That’s when I discovered Krav Maga. After hours of researching schools in NYC, I had decided that KMI was for me. I’m now 2.5 years into it.Each and every one of the instructors are extremely professional, carry positive attitudes, are clear with directions, and highly skilled with techniques. They mold the experience to suit your needs and experience level. They are also normal, likable and down-to-earth people who you can easily befriend. The other students in the school are also fantastic people and very easy to get along with. They span all professions and age ranges and there’s a good mix of both men and women. The stuff you learn in class is challenging yet extremely practical. You can apply just about everything you learn in the real world for a variety of situations…knife attacks, gun attacks, rape situations, muggings, etc. These are, of course, things you don’t ever want to encounter, but the school does an excellent job at preparing you for it if it ever does.KMI also offers a variety of class types so that you can get a good all-around workout ranging from cardio classes, fighting, kettle bell, elite military fitness and the standard classes where you focus on technique. There are also locations all over Manhattan which makes it super convenient. If you want to be challenged, get a good workout, and learn how to handle yourself on the street, sign up for KMI. It’s hands down one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.

I have been training with Krav Maga Institute for the past year and a half. Like several other commenters, I was interested in learning self-defense and found KMI on Groupon. I decided to try it out, and got a membership after the first week! I cant imagine a better Krav Maga organizationI have thoroughly enjoyed every class, gotten in great shape, gained confidence, met really fun people, and have learned a ton about defending myself. As a woman, I was really pleased to find that KMI didnt have the hyper-masculine, aggressive, competitive atmosphere of many martial arts classes. Instead, the students are a really diverse group-- all ages, weights, genders, races, and levels of athleticism; and are very friendly and welcoming. There is really great sense of community within the organization, which sets it apart from other programs. The KMI instructors are the main reason this organization is incredible. They are knowledgeable, approachable, and supportive. They are demanding, but they dont bring a lot of ego to their instruction. Theyll answer questions, and go over moves as many times as you need, in a supportive, encouraging way. The tone of the classes, while intense and physically demanding is completely inclusive and not uncomfortably competitive.I look forward to the Krav Maga classes all week, and always leave them feeling exhausted, but amazing!! It is an great work out, of empowering and practical self-defense techniques, with really awesome people...what else could you ask for?

When I decided to learn self defense, it was very important to me to find the right organization to train with. I looked for reputation, when and where it started, how instructors get certified, and I watched A LOT of techniques. I discovered that the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) was the absolute best choice. The IKMF is the original Krav Maga organization, and they have schools all over the USA and the world.Once I decided to go with the IKMF for my self defense, I looked for where its taught. I found the Krav Maga Institute! I was so pleased with the professionalism, technique, instructors, and WOW, there is such a family feeling with everyone! KMI really stays true to the teaching of the IKMF, and Id recommend it to anyone and everyone.

After training in Krav Maga for 5 years in a very reputable school in California, I moved to NYC and was looking to continue my training here. However, I wanted to make sure that I wont get taken for a ride by so many schools that claim to teach the real and true and original krav maga, whereas all they do is just milk you for $ and teach you some stuff they saw on youtube. Afterall, with your life on the line, you should invest in the best training out there. After observing just one class with the Krav Maga Institute, I knew these guys were the real deal. Here are the reasons why I decided to sign up for classes with the Krav Maga Institute (KMI)1) Instructors are highly skilled, approachable and extremely dedicated to teaching you the most effective and efficient self-defense skills without any fluff or tough guy attitudes. I mean they will push you and push you hard, but they will will lead and guide you every step of the way. Every instructor on their team is certified by the International Krav Maga Federation, meaning that they are held to the highest standard of quality by the official organization that has been certifying instructors around the globe since Krav Maga made the transition into the civilian training. What really struck me is that the KMI instructors are extremely attentive to all the students and will not take any shortcuts because they know that it is our safety that is on the line here. The also make safety during training their priority and will not cut corners in terms of safety requirements. Every student is expected to wear groin protection, a mouth guard and gloves. Higher levels where full contact sparing is involved will require full protective gear. It makes sense, as the only rule of Krav Maga is Dont get hurt and dont hurt your training partner.2) Classes are extremely affordable. Monthly membership is just a fraction of the cost of what some other schools in NYC charge. They also keep the class size relatively small and have multiple instructors assisting in the same class, so you get plenty of attention and feed-back.3) Multiple locations in the city with simultaneous classes on the same day make it easy to fit krav maga training even in the busiest of schedules. They also offer 1-on-1 private classes for people who cant train in group classes because of their travel schedule.4) The student body is made up from some of the friendliest, cool and supportive people that I have had the pleasure to train with. You will make great friends here! I mean this should not be your primary reason to join, but it is a great benefit not to deal with people with enlarged egos and other attitude issues.5) If you are unsure if Krav Maga is for you, they also offer a no strings attached induction class that every student has to take before being allowed to take regular classes. I think this is great because they give you the option to test it out before you commit. The membership options include month-to-month plans, no joining fees or paying half-a-year ahead! In the end, this is a very solid school that offers more bang for the buck, including both the quality of their staff, locations, student body and affordability! You will gain a peace of mind while also getting in the best shape of your life and make awesome friends!

I saw a promo on LivingSocial for 5 classes at Krav Maga Institute, and I thought Id give it a try. That was about 1.5 years ago, and Ive been hooked ever since!I had previously trained in Muay Thai and had done my own research of other martial arts out there: capoeira, boxing, Brazilian Jiujitsu, MMA... all great martial arts, each with advantages and disadvantages, but I felt that Krav Maga was the one that checked all the boxes for me.Among the strengths of Krav Maga that resonated with me were: (1) Its a highly practical self-defense system. (2) Its easy to learn and you can be effective from even just the basic training. (3) It teaches striking, getting out of holds (chokes, headlocks, bear hugs, etc.), and surviving once the fight ends up on the ground, whereas the other martial arts focus only on one or two of the three. (4) The emphasis on awareness and surviving real-life scenarios, such as multiple attackers and being in a street/bar fight. (5) When the situation requires, it encourages the use of high level of aggression and employing all means (i.e. even stuff considered illegal under competition rules) with the goal of getting home safely and live another day.In terms of teaching Krav Maga, KMI is absolutely top-notch. The instructors are among the very best and highly-ranked instructors in North America and are affiliated with IKMF, the largest Krav Maga organization in the world. They are also incredibly patient and incredibly detail oriented, so students like myself are able to truly learn under an encouraging and positive atmosphere. Speaking of students, there is so much camaraderie, support and friendliness inside and outside of classes that I can truly say that the institute is one big Krav Maga family! Ive met a lot of interesting people at KMI and making new friends in the process is icing on the cake.I also love that there are several locations available (Downtown, Midtown and Upper West Side) and there are classes almost every day of the week, so it is easy to fit classes into my busy schedule. The prices are also very competitive compared to other places, plus with the amount of hard-core cardio and conditioning involved in each class, I dont feel the need to enroll in a gym any more. All in all, Im glad to be a part of the KMI family and I just wish I had discovered it sooner!!
