Worst service I have experienced in any exchange, plus the place looked like a dungeon….Please avoid!!!

I don’t normally write reviews but they have the greatest rate in the city with a friendly staff! My go to place for currency exchange. Even though it’s tucked away at a corner but it’s well worth the detour.

Its worthwhile tracking down this place. Ive been to a couple of other exchanges in NY (one just a block up at the Currency Exchange) and they RIP YOU OFF BIG TIME when it comes to service fee. The rates may be the same or a little higher at the Peoples Foreign Exchange but their service fee is very reasonable. And they have excellent service. I did 3x exchanges here whilst in NY in May 2013 and I am very happy with the service. Not a lot of smiles but great service.

Small place behind the Chase Bank offices. Best rate in the area (spread was over $.05 better than the bank). If you send them an email first and they respond before you get there, you might get the fee waived. Nice people.

Ive used this currency exchange several times prior to trips to Canada. The rates Ive gotten have always been better than I could have gotten at Toronto. They also buy back currency but Ive never tried that service as I always end up spending all my foreign money outside of the US.This is convenient for me and it saves a few bucks. Im a fan.

Called to get a rate for conversion from dollar to euro. The guy asks what Im willing to pay. I told him since the market rate and how much Id be willing to pay.The guy asks me whats wrong with you where do you think youll get that rate?Just from a phone call I can tell theyre not professionals.

They charge 10% off the mid and then add a further 3.5% for commissions. Thats a 13.5% fee in total for currency conversion. No thank you.

The customer service is phenomenal. I needed singapore dollars and even though they didnt have enough that i wanted at the end of the day, I left the store smiling with what I got.

I tried everywhere to get Suriname Dollars for my upcoming vacation. My bank did not trade them, AAA did not trade them, CitiBank did not trade them, and the local exchange places around the Grand Central area did not trade them. But a teller in one of the banks told me about Peoples Foreign Exchange in the lobby of 60 E. 42nd Street. And BINGO!!!!! They had them. And not only did they sell me them at a fabulous rate, the guy behind the counter was truly helpful, informative and also very nice to this simple little customer just wanting some money to enjoy a vacation in Suriname. Forget my local bank from now on. Off to 60 E. 42nd I go for all my trips.

For 200,000 JPY they were gonna charge $2,510 compared with $2,605 at Currency Exchange International down the street in Apple Bank. Compared with them theyre great! Works out about half the margin of the other guys....

I called to find out a rate and was just told by the woman who answered that she didnt have the exchange rate and I would have to come in to find out. Thats ridiculous.

Good rates and low fees. Much better deal than other fx places. This place is located under ground in the building. Dont get fooled by the fx kiosk on the corner of 42nd and Madison

Bought some South African Rand for a friends Honeymoon. Very poor rate. Look elsewhere.
