I flew only once in my life time as a business class passenger, since flying 16 hours is a daunting task, I need a place to lie down, so I tested the experience with China Eastern Airline. China eastern air line amazed me by limousine pick up and drop off. White cloth fine dining on the plane, comfortable recline sleeping chair, private large screen TV, and first class services provided by the professional flight attendants. Besides 3 squared meals, I requested two additional snacks. They provided me shrimp noodles and congee with 4 side dishes, which were well beyond my expectations. After that flight, every time I flew this year, I was eligible for using the business lounge when I went to the airport. However I have to say the business lounge at Pudon airport in Shanghai is much better than JFKs, with much more and better selections of food (all free of course). Although for those who loves alcohol and other beverages, tops (see photos). They are all complimentary, and you can drink as much as you like. :))

I was trying to apply their ESA boarding services for my dog, it’s ridiculous that they never pick up the phone. I have all the documents ready but no one could help me to process it. Horrible customer service!👎

I flew with this airline in March 2018 and really expected the worst service ever after reading so many poor reviews.I took the risk because I was able to get a multiple destination round trip ticket for very cheap. I flew with China Eastern Airlines from JFK to Phuket, Thailand on my first trip. Then about a week later I flew back to Shanghai to visit for a few days. I returned back to the US on their non stop flight from Shanghai to JFK.My on board experience I must say was excellent. The staff was fairly pleasant and responsive. The food was also surprisingly very tasty and satisfying. I never needed to reach for any of the snacks I had brought on board as a precaution. However, there boarding process was worst that I have ever seen. Passengers are not grouped into categories and as a result getting on board was chaotic. Now that I know what to expect I would take this again - but ONLY if a cheap enough fare again.

This is the worst customer service. Don’t waste your money with this airline. I tried to call their customer service department many times to do a small change on the ticket and they never answered my call. For this reason I missed my flight and never got a refund.

Horrible experience. My friend traveling with us had a different flight returning home. She had 2 layovers in China and when ahe arrived at the airport the airline would not let her board because she needed a Chinese visa prior to the trip. We explained that she was never informed and they did not care to assist. They told her she needed to purchase a new flight right then and there. It cost an additional $800 for a one way. While we were in China for our layover, we were treated horribly at the airport. The man in charge was yelling at everyone in line and getting everyone riled up. Never again!

Do not use this airline. They have terrible customer service. We were at Narita airport and since we are going to U.S., one checkin staff who is a Japanese lady directed us to firstclass check in counter to help us. She then told us with her broken English she needs to enter our addresses in U.S. and she took more than 40 minutes to do so. She has NO explanation until i asked her why. Without apologizing she told me she needs to enter these information. She kept asking other assistance for help. Clearly she does NOT know what she is doing. She looked very confused. After 40 minutes she finished and handed back our passports with a poker face, with no explanation, no apology, no Good-bye have a nice trip. Not only me felt disrespect but my whole family felt this way. After she checked 3 of us in, there is another passenger in group found out that his last name was entered incorrectly by one letter short. The airline duty manager told us they cannot make ANY name change. I work at travel agency and I assure you any airlines at any airport can make name change at airport with passenger paying name change fee. Since we were really short on time (previously the Japanese lady took us 40 minutes to check in ) we expected that airline staff can help make name changes. The airline duty manager told us we have to call their office at shanghai to get the name fixed. We have to buy something at a store, exchange coins and call. Bare in mind we were only 30 minutes before boarding and the name change normally took 15-20 to show in the system. We were super stressed out and also our phones were not working properly. While we were trying i asked duty manager if she could help us to call and i am willing to pay her. But she told me she CANNOT. I have to make call by myself. At such big and international airport the service this airline can provide is so limited. I am done with this crappy airline. Good bye i will never use you again.

Terrible customer service at check-in at JFK.The counter at JFK cannot rebook flights and can only do check-ins.There was a small discrepancy for my daughter’s middle name between the booking and he passport, and they could only change three characters with a small fee. They told us to contact our travel agent and Expedia told us to the contact China Eastern hotline. This went back and forth for hours while we were hoping to get resolved before we missed the flight, and they both told us to rebook the flight. The airline says that the Chinese Gov’t is strict and does not allow for name discrepancies. We have traveled to many countries and this has never been an issue.

I was very worried about flying from JFK to Seoul one stop through China Eastern and back because of the horrendous reviews I heard. But now I experienced it in person and I was pleasantly surprised, the ride was mostly comfortable. The food was edible and there is free WiFi on international flights. Also people may misunderstand about technology use, they just dont want you using earphones or usb during takeoff and landing. They did not bother me using my phone on airplane mode at all. Pudong airport is really dirty but you will be able to find a pleasant spot to wait if you look. Overall the price savings was definitely worth any added discomfort.

Avoid this airline at all costs!! Even though their flights may be cheaper, it might cost you more in the long run.I had a flight get cancelled due to a snow storm and they didn’t have any open new flights until a week out. I ended up having to buy a new ticket with a different airline. Cost me an extra $1000+ and hours of headache.
