Someone I know is currently staying there. I was shocked to learn from his mother that the staff will not permit him to take his psych meds even though he is diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia.Even more disturbing is the fact that staff members have assigned the derogatory nickname “The Pacer” to him because of his constant pacing - a sign of his mental illness. Apart from this being unprofessional, it is just plain mean and speaks volumes about the quality of personnel who pretend to be loving, caring Christians. The hypocrisy is astounding.I work for an organization that provides mental health care to incarcerated persons. As you might imagine, the clinical staff deal with extreme cases of mental illness on a daily basis. It’s exhausting, frustrating, often dangerous work, but they do it because they care. During my time at this company I have NEVER heard any of them make fun of mentally ill patients or assign them nicknames.Last week the mother of this person asked to see him so that he could sign power of attorney papers for him so that she could manage his disability paperwork. Not only did they refuse to let her see him, they told her that since he has been approved to draw disability, he has to give New Orleans Mission a substantial portion of his payments. How exactly does this help him find his way out of the predicament of homelessness? Is it fair to call New Orleans Mission a homeless shelter even though rent is apparently required to stay there?New Orleans Mission is the antithesis of what it claims to be on its website. WWJD if a destitute guy asks for temporary aid? Apparently lock him up, strip him of mental healthcare, and give him a derogatory nickname while simultaneously helping himself to the guy’s sole source of income.
I work part time 12am-3am. Not only would they not let me come back for a couple more hours of sleep and breakfast, but they kicked me out for a week.Im ethnically Jewish. My people didnt have their own country until 1948. No one needs you.
Very, very rude people that work here.
This place is a scam cult, exploiting the homeless. All who gave positive reviews are brainwashed, & the mind control programming is working. Im glad that I was able to see this for what it is. There were some people who picked me up from the aquarium & love bombed me. Pretended to be cheerful & happy. Please research how a cult operates. Im sorry I even gave those people my personal information & Social Security #. They didnt get my bank account information, but they tried to tell me that theyll confiscate my food stamp card & take 80% of my income & leave me with 20. The guy, Ray, tried to manipulate me into joining their fake discipleship program, & he told me that salvation is free, but peace of mind is earned, & only earned through THEIR program! I was not expecting this. After filling out paperwork, there was a mean young lady who gave me pajamas I didnt want to wear, & she wanted to confiscate my cellphone & search through my belongings. I dont remember her name. I told her to her face that the center is like a prison, & that theyre worse than the Salvation Army. They better not use my personal information for sinister purposes, or else Im suing. People giving 5 stars & high reviews are blinded by Satan.
Its a cult. Dangerous. Stay away, seek shelter elsewhere
This place is ridiculous. In order to eat dinner and get a bed, you are forced to endure an hour of worship. Even though, theres a big sign that says You dont need to pray to stay.Dont be fooled into thinking youll be treated like a human being. Laundry? Nope. Clean clothes at least? Not a chance. Help getting off the street and ending your homelessness? Not unless you become a disciple. If you have a job, it better be from 8-4 or 9-5. Otherwise you can forget about the work program. They also make you attend worship and youre not allowed to leave unless youre going to work or have an approved reason.Honestly, youre better off on the streets than in this place.
The New Orleans mission is the hands and feet of Jesus in this city. No matter where any of the staff goes, the love of Christ is shared. I love being a part of this awesome ministry. If you know someone in need of help, I would highly recommend sending them to us. To God be all the glory.
After reading all the comments. I say they should better the place and better the staff. Stop charging homeless people to stay and stop taking their money that they make. Its not for you. So sad. Glad I dont have to go through this BS
Im just a volunteer but I believe this is truly a blessing for those in need. With extremely limited resources and a mostly volunteer staff they try to provide for the physical, mental, and spiritual needs that we all have. I love volunteering there. There is a lot of positive energy and attitudes displayed by most of the volunteers and staff. If you have a servants heart, volunteer at The Mission!
I Thank the New Orleans Mission for guiding me and directing me.I Thank the New Orleans Mission for Refreshing and Renewing my heart.I thank Father God for this day and for my many blessings and for the New Orleans Mission. Thanks for Your Unfailing Presence in my Life.
I can say this from my own experience I successfully graduated the discipleship program Today iam proud to say God is 1st in my life this is more than just a program its a spiritual Hospital rescue, recovery Ive been blessed in the past year to watch so many men and women be able to get your lifes back on track I would like to thank all those involved from staff board members and those that donate and most of all my Lord and Savior Jesus ... Changing lives forever
Re-entry into the world was hopeless... I was released from prison without a bridge intact, or a dollar to my name. When I heard about the New Orleans Mission from some guests who had been staying there I knew that’s where I was being led. Upon my arrival I was taken in without hesitation. I signed an agreement offering some logical precepts, and my journey began. I graduated the program with the satisfaction of knowing that my character and morality had been changed for the greater. God, through the New Orleans Mission has saved lives and restored sanity to many broken people including myself.I have never had a problem with the mission staff or enforcement for rules of conduct that I was made aware of during my initial intake interview. God bless the New Orleans Mission!
My husband and I started volunteering here at the New Orleans Mission back in January of 2017. Since then we have seen people come and go. One thing I know for sure, those individuals are loved on and ministered to on a daily basis. Every thing the mission offers is free of charge, right down to the toilet paper that is used.
Amazing place that’s making a real difference in our city.
This is a wonderful place to be, especially if you are really serious about getting your life right and desiring a relationship with God. This place is very helpful and very genuine. My life has changed alot the 16 months Ive been here.
Not very cool a Christian based place makes you have service and eat away from your wife gf, . Also why a service every time people need their time Sunday is a good day for services .. Also they need to look at Houston fish and loaves to get an idea about how to serve food, ... Really the mission needs management and better everything to he good
Not open 24 hrs. Thats a lie. Forced participation in religious activities. Place is ran as if it were a prison.
The new Orleans mission is a blessing for alot of people, i am a Muslim and due to bad circumstances I had no place to go but I was welcome here with no problems all the bad reviews are from junkies and satanic people, i am a Muslim and I listene to the preaching regardless if I believe or not because anything for God is good and no body or place is perfect
Another prime example, of Godly good people! Love you all
They help so many of the homeless in the city. The place is a blessing to many who are going through hard times. To all the negative comments, you cant expect perfect help. The team at the New Orleans Mission does the best they can.
What a great place to get delivered from the issues of life while developing a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I am a testimony of how God uses this place to change lives.
God has established that the New Orleans Mission be a City on a Hill, and I can personally testify that the light and love of Christ is in this place. To have the multitude of physical needs met daily (Food/shelter) and to have front row seats at hearts and lives being transformed and restored. Our sweet Savior is using the Mission and all those involved on a daily basis to make Himself known! And His Name is...Je-SUS!!!
A safe place where you can come to be discipled in the ways of Jesus Christ, learn how to have a personal relationship with Christ and learn to trust him for every aspect of you life
Amazing staff! They truly care about the individuals that one seeking help.
Daniel, one of the security members of the Mission, is a light-skinned, heavyset African-American who wears small prescription glasses and has a large surgical scar on his inner right arm. He is known to kick out the guest members for his own amusement. For example, hell tell the people, who are coming back to get their belongings, that they cant retrieve them or hell tell the guests to do a task around the mission, which he isnt allowed to do except with the disciples in the program, and if they refuse, which they obviously have a right to, he will kick them out or place them on a permanent ban list. Please Mr. David, fire this person or hell continue to harm the guests for his own evil amusement, which isnt Christian at all.
The Mission directed me to my God given purpose.
As of December 10th, 2017. I stayed here after a brief hospital stay and I must say, this is not a good place to stay. It is highly unkept, ongoing renovations and construction on the building allow plenty of rodents and pests to crawl about, including in food areas and serving areas (a health inspection should be ran). The city should investigate the treatment of those in need shile they stay in this establishment. Workers will, not maybe, WILL go through your belongings if you are put upstairs. If you are in a downstairs cot, good luck getting any sleep. It speaks volumes when you here an individual state that they would rather face the elements and sleep under the bridge, than go to this place again. I urge the city to investigate this place, please, if they are an organization that plans to help the homeless, they should at least be up to standards and be at least halfway sanitary.
Saved my life! Some of the most Godly people Ive ever met!
Worlds biggest cult claiming to be Christians but theyre practices and principles are completely unbiblical. They treat you like trash and scam you for whatever they can get. Lots knows if you have an income, you best lie. Otherwise youll be forced to put half (sometimes more) into a savings account, in their names obviously. And if tou decide to leave vefore the year is up, they take 300$ for every month not fully completed. So if you leave 3 months and 1 day before your year would end? They take 1200 bucks. Yeah cuz homeless folks have it like that. God help us all. Do NOT go here!!! Sleeping outside safer, and definitely less stressful!
Jesus changed my life.
They have no blanket to cover up with. It gets cold in there.
The ppl are very friendly and all work to help ppl in the city..
Change my life with crist
They are working to restore folks to society and families. Take it from me, I am a product of Gods work through the mission!
Good people
