Shawn and his crew were incredibly accommodating for me as an out of town guest. Very systematic training methodology that I learned a lot from in my two days training there.

This gym is tight! From the Onnit kettlebells and gorillas everywhere you know you are in for a good time. I havent trained here much recently but while I was a member we were constantly covering topics relevant in current sport Jiu-Jitsu. Expect alot of 10th planet style type warms ups and get comfortable walking on your hands they will definitely expect you to control your body and not just parrot technique. Many fighters train here as well so dont spaz and treat them right!Showers available

This place is amazing. I’ve been training with the owner, Shawn Gayton, for about two months and I’ve already learned so much. Senior students are more than happy to help junior students. It’s a pretty informal environment. There are many high level fighters who train at this gym. This place is full of knowledge. I personally have only practiced Jiu Jitsu here (both gi and no gi). They also offer “striking” classes as well as wrestling and conditioning. If you’re looking for an environment where you are supported by your teammates, make some friends, get in shape, and absolutely slay at Jiu Jitsu, I highly recommend checking out Mid-City MMA.

I have had the pleasure of calling this place home and where my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey began in 2011. I have had the honor of training all over the world because of my military background, but it was hard finding a gym like this one. Shawn is one of the most welcoming individuals I have ever met and a genuinely good person. He has an abundance of knowledge that he is willing to share and make sure you understand. If you have a problem with the technique he is willing to work through it with you until you get hit it with perfection. If he cant answer your question at the moment, he will get back to you with that answer as quickly as possible. The atmosphere in the gym is also one of the best. People from all walks of life come together and truly to make each other better. Love to compete. If you are looking for a home in New Orleans or need a place to train while traveling, this is the place to go.

After 2 years of kickboxing experience in Chicago, I started at Mid City MMA in September 2018, having relocated to New Orleans. I tried a couple of other places in New Orleans before Mid City, but after my first striking class with Shawn at Mid City, I made the decision to continue there. 5 months on and Im loving the striking classes, usually attending Shawns classes or Julians. Lots of fantastic partner drills and padwork. Students range from beginners to a number of amateur and professional fighters. Great comradery amongst everyone at the gym. Im yet to do a BJJ, wrestling or MMA class.... But if you want to learn BJJ, you want to be at Shawns school for sure!

Legit BJJ!!! I trained gi and nogi there while vacationing, everyone was super nice to me and my lady... good, tough, legit training. Shaun is well versed in both sport Gi BJJ and modern nogi footlocker game, and everyone was real friendly! Ill be back, for sure. I would be happy to train there fulltime! I didnt try any other gyms in the area, and I will continue not trying any other gyms when I go back. Oss.
