Brother Cornell was absolutely awesome with the amazing grace given to my scalp and locs! I booked a same day last minute appointment on the site and I have NO regrets. He tamed this mane in no time at all. Also, Ive GOT to mention Sir Rhythm. He washed and scrubbed all the joy back into my crown! Yessssssss I am very happy with the services and atmosphere. Brother Cornell had been on his feet since 6am and still accepted my 7pm appointment. Im so grateful (a girl was heavy on the frizzy roots). I dont have the before pics to share. Lets just say I came in covered up and am leaving out vibrantly showcased. Whether youre new or a seasoned vet on your loc journey, do yourself a favor and let the men and lady of Tru Rootz give your crown the TLC it deserves.
I browsed natural hair salons in my city on Google. The shop was easy to find and had parking on the premises. The entrance was pleasant and calming. My follow-up appointment was handled by a warm and welcoming receptionist. My hairstylist worked quickly and made me feel comfortable. He is well-informed and asked for details about my hair. Im glad I selected Tru Rootz to revive my hair journey.
Great service. Bro Cornell did an awesome job on my locs. Its very Afrocentric and the name of the shop speaks for it self. Im definitely going back
I received top service from Tru Rootz Salon, just as I have before. Ive been going there on and off since the fall of 2018 because my daughter, Bria is also a loctician, who now has relocated from DC back to Houston, she also cares for my hair. At my most recent appointment(s) at Tru Rootz, I was washed upon arrival by the receptionist, then I saw Brother Cornell soon after, as he did my interlocking and then I came back later for my second appointment to have my hair styled into a loc petal mohawk. Know that my left side is shaved as my testimony so I keep it shaved as my testimony in memory of the brain stroke Id had as a result of a unknown birth defect that had lain dormant in my life until the birth of my 4th child. I also had and a heart attack shortly after my brain surgery while I was in recovery. I like sharing my testimony visually, and even if people dont ask🤔, theyll see that Ive been thru something serious and should realize that I am blessed to still be here, with most of my senses in working order.😜 All thanks to God for keeping me here, cause Hes got more for me to do. Anyway, Brother Cornell styled my hair into loc petals as my daughter had previously done. Id have to say that I absolutely love that I have a local salon to go to for my interlocking and styling options, when my daughter isnt available. Tru Rootz is just 5 minutes from my home. Overall I love the conversations Ive had with Brother Cornell and his co-workers who work hard at their craft to keep their clients looking and feeling beautiful and/or handsome❣️ Also I love the scents along with the feelings of peace and calm in their salon.🤗🙏🏼💯🎉
I went into a hair consult, and the owner was nice and polite and knowledgeable of my hair.He made me feel comfortable.
Went there to get starter locs and I was super excited to start my journey. I got there at 10:55 am for my 11:00 am appointment and I was not taken back by the stylist until 11:45am. I was a little upset but I decided not to let that ruin my experience. I got to the back and the stylist had to keep leaving to take care of other clients while doing my hair. It was just not a great experience. Another stylist had to finish my hair due to my stylist having a new client to start on. On top of everything my starter locs had no kind of order the lines were not straight. He just randomly made twist leaving my starter locs looking like I did it myself. My locs did not have that clean and neat look after just getting my hair done. I have scheduled with another stylist at another salon to fix my locs in July. Such a disappointment
You will find NO BETTER place in New Orleans for locs!
Starting your loc journey is a commitment to your crown, your spirituality, and yourself. When I walked in I knew I wanted to start my journey but Brian and Brother Cornell made me feel happy, comfortable and confident about it.I love my starter locs just as much as loved the atmosphere, and the experience I got from Brother and Brian.
I absolutely love this salon. My very first visit I was asked about my lifestyle, personality, and work environment. My stylist then suggested the method of starter locs I should have and gave me suggestions on care and maintenance. Service is prompt!
Im starting my loc journey and Brother chris made sure Im started in the right direction. My experience there was amazing and i highly recommended it.
My first appointment should have been my last. The main proprietor Cornell is very rude and unprofessional. He doesn’t answer the phone with the business name you have to ask, then when you get there the card machine mysteriously never works and he can only take cash but he has a whole I Pad to sign in on . I think he doesn’t have a checking account. Then no matter what time your appointment is for, he will never start on time because he over books being greedy. I have him a second chance even after being very unhappy with his work because I have a tricky hair pattern being of mixed ancestry (Black and Puerto Rican) yet again he was ill prepared with a client in his chair at my time and then took someone else before me who was sitting there waiting when I got there, meaning he also had been subject to the lack of professionalism. I was told “just give me a few minutes and I’ll be with you, mind you the guy in the chair had long locs being re twisted, and he had just started and it was already 20 minutes pass my 12 noon appointment time, so this time I followed my heart and left. He never bothered to apologize or try to accommodate me on any capacity knowing I drive over40 minutes each way to get to his shop. While he may do good work on some people his lack of, poor scheduling skills and overall arrogance are a turn off for me and my hard earned money. I love to support my own but I will not pay for abuse and disrespect, I wish I could give him negative stars. He has a negative, nasty energy that you do not want to be part of your journey. He needs to find another job where he can disrespect women and it’s ok.
Staff is amazing! Love the calm energy that flows through this shop!
Amazing Experience Will Definitely Be Back.
My locs needed alot of TLC...how I entered the building is definitely not how I left!!!!...my locs were dead and my loctician raised them from the dead like Lazurus!!
Didnt get the service I paid for. Love the owner brother Carnell. Hes always nice and professional.
Great place, with good vibes
Was on time no one showed up waste of time did not answer my calls total waste of my time besides shop on outside littered with trash curtains hanging sideways just GHETTO
This was the first pain -free braiding experience that I have had. Lady T was very gentle and I loved the outcome. I will definitely go back!
My hair feels great and looks great!!! I had a great experience from Patrice as she made sure my hair and scalp were cleansed properly and nourished.Brother Cornell gave me a great retwist and style. No pain with my trust and not s bunch of heavy products. He also gave me an education on my hair and what to expect on my loc journey. The only thing sad about this day was that I dont live in New Orleans, so I cant go here regularly to get my hair done.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED MY EXPERIENCE HERE!!!!!!!!! THE BARBERS WERE VERY NICE, AND VERY WELCOMING!!!!! PHOENIX ROSE MADE ME FEEL RIGHT AT HOME...I AM GOING TO CONTINUE TO COME HERE AS LONG AS I CAN....LOOKS LIKE I HAVE FOUND MY NEW HAIR SPOT!!!!!!!!!
Very accommodating, professional. Brother C is a surgeon at his craft. Very nice staff. Much appreciated!
Took my 2 year old to get his locs started. He has cerebral palsy so I’m very picky who is around him and how can he be accommodated... ERICA had my baby sleeping while she did his whole head. She is such a beautiful calm person the shop was so calming and just such a great experience we will be a long time client of hers. Thank you so much !!
Love my hair. Took the time to repair what was damage.Nice place love the colors .
The vibe here is great. Afrocentric place to get your locs done. Best on the gulf coast!
I went into True Rootz and had a wonderful experience. My stylist was Erica. She consulted me about my hair and what to expect. Erica did a phenomenal job. My first experience for getting starter locs was horrible. However, I gave it a second chance, here at Tru Rootz. And I dont regret it !!! I definitely will be seeing her again.
Not just a hair salon. The education about the health of your hair is important and it has the all around atmosphere of a spa. Good people who generally care about your experience. Erica is definitely a LocStar!
Very professional and you will be happy with the end results of your hairstyle.
I Love Love Love the vibe of the atmosphere & the Loc techs that works there. The owner is very knowledgeable about the locs/natural hair all around the board. Everywhere I go I get great complements on my locs & the styles every time I get it did. No 1 & I mean No 1 else is allowed to touch this crown but the Tru Rootz family... Oh did I mention Ms.Phoenix,Who does a Fantastic job on make-up, Shes an Awesome Queen, I dont wear makeup & she Wurked her magic, it wasnt overwhelming,it was a natural look just the way I love it. I Love My King & Queens of Tru Rootz🥰😍
Very therapeutic and does excellent job with dreads as well as giving great hair care tips for natural hair.
Nothing professional about them
Talked to the one guy...the same guy twice. Told me that permanent loc extensions were going to cost me $1000 to do. I asked why so much?! He replies, I get my hair from California.. I asked about faux locs after that. He said and I quote, Its way too time consuming and I really dont like doing faux locs. The time it takes is really not work the money. Ok, if you dont like to do a certain thing that you advertise...then why do it at all? I know its a business and I know you got to get this money, but at telling a potential customer that you dont care to do a style that you advertise isnt good business. I change oil on a daily basis because that is my job, that is what I signed up for. There is no way Im going to tell a customer, Well, I dont really like changing oil on your car...its too time consuming and Im not making enough money to service your vehicle.I would be fired. If you dont like to do Faux locs because it isnt getting you the money you want, then dont do them...plan and simple.
Excellent work being done there 100 :)
Nice atmosphere, stylists are very friendly and professional. Never a long wait. They do great work.
Relaxing professional environment. Quality work everytime
Great atmosphere and as others have said, they genuinely care about your experience.
10/10 experience definitely recommend I’m coming back Monthly
Had the best experience, very helpful with information on hair maintenance and employees keep a very tidy work place.
Phoenix was very accommodating and her work is amazing!
Turned my mess into beautiful locs. Soft and healthy.
Bother Cornell is absolutely amazing. As my hair started growing out, I was getting discouraged because I couldnt style my own hair. I heard stories about going to regular salons and them not handling natural hair accordingly. I loooed up tru rootz and thought guy to give them a try. And all I can say is nothing but good things. I can tell everyone there actually cares about black hair in its natural state. Theyre friendly, patient, and understanding. They dont just do your hair and you leave. The tell you about your hair. Theres so much about my hair I didnt understand. This is the only salon I reccomend for natural hair care in New Orleans.
Went in to see Cornell, who was said to be a loctician but I beg the differ. When it comes to repairs etc. He is not skilled. I let him do loc extensions on my hair and also add more to the top to make it full. His technique is to split one loc in half at the root, to make 2.(incorrect) because of this method my locs are way too thin at the root to hold the loc that is attached. and you would think as a loctician he would know that. Plus the hair he uses does not blend with real locs. I hate my locs now because of what he did. I looked up a loctician in Atlanta and he immediately told NOOOOO. that is NOT how you add more locs. You need to cut, re-part, add and then attach. So it seems as if he does it the lazy way, which can cause damage to peoples hair. The only thing you wont know because every time you go back he patch it up and you wont notice. Im afraid of my locs popping at the root because of this. if he did not want to do it the correct or he if he does not know how he shouldnt them at all. But truly I dont think he care. He double book, better yet triple books clients and have you waiting over an hr even when you have an appt. he is very stand offish. he just looks at you when you walk through the door like you dont exist. Get no repairs done. I will be going to Atlanta to get my locs done correctly and fixed what he messed up.
Phenomenal service
Ive been getting my hair done here forever, Erica is so great and my retwists last so long! 10/10
