While having breakfast at Mothers, I inquired about a good place for a shave. Both Mr. Jack and Ernie were recommended. I walked the few short blocks and then enjoyed one of the most peaceful shaves I have experienced in a long time. A visit to Mr. Jack has now been added to my agenda whenever I am in town. The price was extremely reasonable too. Head shave and beard trim for much more affordable price than most places. Warm towels and talc finish is always a nice touch. The splash of aftershave was like icing on the cake.
I live and work in the Quarter, this is a real old school Mens Barber Shop. A lot of places now are unisex and cheap, Im not saying they cant cut womens hair but this is NOT super cuts, just saying. If youre from outta town and need a cut, trim, shave, etc. THIS IS THE PLACE,. To heck with that hipster fancy beard place with the overpriced products. Ernie is my man but theyre both great, and yes, Mr. E is a little hard of hearing but try talking normally? Rarely have I ever had to raise my voice. @you one star review!
I was traveling on business and needed a haircut. I was able to walk in with no appointment and get immediate service. Jack was friendly, patient, and a Craftsman of his trade. Best haircutting experience I have ever had. I would definitely come back again!
Being a tonsorial artist myself I have extremely high standards and Jack gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve had in a while. He asked all the pertinent questions one should ask before a cut - I get a 6 on top 3 on the sides tapered haircut. Someone may call it a spike front or Cesar haircut. My wife was very satisfied with the cut as well. If I lived in NOLA this would be my spot.
Got a great cut from Mr. Jack. We were eating by and stumbled upon it during our vacation and I needed a hair cut. Nice gentleman with a lot of experience. $20 for a haircut. I was pleased with his work
A real barber shop. Great haircut. Awesome price. See Mr. Jack.
Always a great haircut. He wont tell you, but as a professor at the local barber college in his early years, he taught some of the better barbers in the city. Warning - Do not ask if he likes to fish!
Great haircut with great conversation. Highly recommend
Jack has been in the business for more than half century. Hes a very nice guy, makes sure you get the haircut you came for and the price is right. If Im ever back in town and I need a haircut, Im going to Jacks
I went to the same barber for 5 years in Seattle, Wa. On a road trip across the country I found this place and took a big risk. Jack cut my hair and I gotta say, hes a master. Cheap price and one of the best haircuts Ive ever had. Thank you!
I spent some time getting a trim from Mr. Jack today, and it was truly a joy. A soft-spoken Louisiana gentleman who can give you the cut you want - not same cut he gives to every other person who sits in his chair. Ill be back!
Old school barber shop at its best! I have been going to Mr Jacks for about eight years and have never had a single bad cut. Both Mr Jack and Mr Ernie are true professionals and you wont find a better cut in the french quarter. Price and quality top notch
Great service from a master barber at a great price
Had a great shave and even a better time. Jack is one cool guy. Down to earth and a character all at the same time. Told wife this might have to be a new NOLA tradition.
In New Orleans for a few days and was looking for a quick trim and i’m so glad I went into Mr.Jacks’s place. A great haircut and conversation and was just so relaxing and enjoyed every minute. I would defo have this guy as my regular if I lived here.
Needed a cut on my vacation and was not disappointed. Great barbers and fair prices.
Gave a good haircut at a fair price. I had no wait and enjoyed the advice for tourists.
Jack is the coolest! Great haircut, cheap, and gave me a heads-up on where to move when I return in December.
Im new to Nola by 2 months. Its starting to become home. Even got a new job starting in a week. I need to look professional, since my hair had grown out shaggy. So looking through Google for barbers, I came across Mr. Jacks. Reviews were stellar, aside from someone complaining about loose hairs (seriously, if youre like me, its impossible aside from a shower, to get every little bit of hair clippings).I walked down Decauter to his shop. It reminded me off a barber my grandmother took me to as a kid, a man who cut my fathers hair as a kid. Nothing fancy, just an old fashioned approach. Mr. Jack was is in, with a customer. He greeted me friendly, welcoming. I asked about price, which was a fair price. He told me he could get me in a bit later. I left my name and walked away, since I had a bit of time. When I returned, he was waiting patiently, no one else if I remembered. We greeted each other like old friends seeing each other after years. He listened to how I wanted my hair cut, asking things barbers should to make the client happy. I sat in the chair, and we started talking as he cut my hair. He listened, he responded to various things I said, even talked with me about his own history in Nola, the shop. It was very pleasant and nice.I was extremely pleased and satisfied with my haircut. I went from shaggy mess to professional look in 20 minutes. Mr. Jack was very polite, attentive, and could tell he cares about people who come in, regulars or vistors. I will definitely be back when I need a new cut. I was even impressed the guy after me complimented the way my hair was done and wanted something similar.I highly recommend anyone who wants a great professional cut to seek Mr. Jack and his shop out. Its on Decauter not to far down from House of Blues and the hotels. Its got that classic barbershop feel. And Mr. Jack is a very awesome person. As I said, he made me feel like an old client, coming back for just another haircut and to chat up like friends. That right there is while Ill be coming back.
In town from San Diego and was looking for a good Barber. This is thee place to go. Very friendly, Ole Time Barber style with a straight razor shave to boot.
Loved the experience after my hair cut didnt have much left over you know those annoying stray hairs that poke ya. All in all amazing man does awesome work at a great price.
Friendliness and conversation
Best haircut Ive ever had in my life!
Was intown last weekend for my Bday 15 minutes before they closed and Mr Jack himself sat me down and gave me a great haircut with some good ole Louisiana hospitality.
Got a good straight-razor beard trim from a friendly, native New-Orleanian.
Quite hard of hearing and won’t stop cutting when he starts doing something you didn’t ask for. Make yourself very clear about what you want before he starts and put a stop to it when it starts to go in another direction. Very unhappy with the haircut.
Getting hair cut there since Katrina.... classic Barber Shop
Excellent hair cut.
Ask for Ernie!
