We adopt from the Animal Welfare Society of New Milford and give donations when we are able. They take excellent care of the little lives that come to them. I also like that they check out the home and get to know the humans to where they are sending the companion animal. Additionally, if my husband and I were to perish or no longer be able to care for our companions, we know that they will take them back. They are kind, loving and dedicated to making the life of their animals to adopt a safer more humane life. HIGHLY recommend them.

This was a great place to adopt a new dog. I had been looking to adopt a new dog and they had a number of animals ready to be taken home. I found a dog that fit my lifestyle and it has been great. The experience and adoption at Animal welfare society is very easy. They also have very low fees considering that the animal comes fully checked out by a vet, spayed or neutered, and with all of their shots. They also help you out after adoption if any new things might pop up. They take care of it no charge.they are very nice people, I would definitely recommend checking them out.

We have had 2 fantastic experiences with adopting the greatest dogs from Animal Welfare Society in New Milford. We are so grateful to them for the love and care they provide their shelter residents and their efforts to help find a good match for the dog or cat and their forever family. If anyone wants to rescue an animal--especially a cat--there is not better place to go! They play no games; the cat that I wanted was the cat I came home with. Not only is he in great health, he is even cuter than described! I am very happy to have done my first adoption with AWS of New Milford and if I am lucky to adopt again, they will be my first place to look.

This is, by far, the cleanest, kindest, and caring animal welfare facility. They did not rush me at all, gave me lots of specifics about the animals, and helped me find my forever match. You can tell they spend a lot of time with each animal because they know each little nuance of each animal. My experience here was stellar.

We thought he was part German Shepherd and maybe a Hound dog of some sort as his ears flip down but he has the coloration of a tan body with a black mask like a Shepherd. He has the best personality, was quite thin when we adopted him. Ive since run into someone who said I see youve got yourself a Black Mouth Cur there. Youre a very lucky lady, they make wonderful family dogs and are super smart!! Sure enough we looked up the breed on the computer and there he was, he looked just about identical in every way to THOR! 💗He is very intelligent too, not to be ever punished in negative manners as they remember it and will use it against you in the future. They can be difficult for beginners to train they say ? Hes not a Black Labrador Retriever, thats for sure! Poor Domino -- hes literally running circles around her not to mention barks at her because she never wants to play with him and hes had enough of this waiting game! The expected lifespan of this breed is between 12 - 18 years too, a wonderful period of time for a medium to large dog as far as Im concerned! 💝 Thank you again!

I checked out a lot of shelters when I adopted my cat and the New Milford AWS is simply the best!! The staff was so kind and you could feel the love they have for the animals there. I liked that some of the cats roamed free and there was an area for cats that enjoy hanging out in the rafters. I will only come here from now on!! Thank you for my precious cat, Busy!!❤️❤️

I adopted my Jazzy from them. They are excellent in the care that they do for all the animals they get. They give them the proper medical attention if needed. Jazzy was a case where she was an option for euthanasia but they offered her medical care did everything they could and I am so happy to have her as part of my family. Renee,Lauren,Melanie and Aaron and all the others do everything for the best care of the dogs and cats that are left behind.

The facility is absolutely wonderful and the care and comfort of the animals is obviously the number one priority.... Renee is a guardian and just exudes warmth and compassion

Went there yesterday with my wife and donated 5 blankets and 12 cans of cat food.The 2 Girls that were working there at the time were rude and was like they did not want to be there. Here we are exciting to donate the blankets and food and there response was leave it on the chair . My wife was asking them questions on how do you like the new renovations and they gave my wife a nasty look and seemed bothered that we were still there.

I occasionally volunteer at New Milford animal welfare. As it is so sad 😢 for me to see the animals behind bars...they are well taken care of. They are renovating right now. I just wonder if that means the animals will have more room. the cats are put into these tiny cages and have absolutely no room to move around, but just lay there and sleep. By the time Im done and leaving for my car I am in full-blown tears praying for each and every animal to be adopted to their forever home quickly.

Fantastic people that make the adoption process smooth and easy. From first meeting the puppy I wanted to adopt, to visiting him until he was clear for adoption, they were there to help. I adopted Finn (formerly Benji) there and havent regretted it for a moment! Thank you for bringing this wonderful pup into my life!

I have to say we picked up flash today and we had our friends giving so there where literally people and kids in and out all night and that puppy was a champ!!!! Im so proud of the way you guys are at the shelter and would recommend any one looking for an animal to go see the people down at the new milford animal shelter!!!! My dog was not cared for properly. I adopted him from AWS New Milford and found MANY LARGE TICKS on him that appeared to have been there for a while. He was also poorly groomed and immediately developed a HOT SPOT which required a vet visit. Beautiful sweet dogs, but poor grooming and health inspections. Beware!!!

This shelters mission is great. The staff treats these animals well and work hard to care for their well being. I am glad they are facilitating a safe haven for the good spirits in their charge.

Went in with my kids looking to meet our second pet. Filled out the application before even being allowed back, ok. There is a lottery of puppies that we specifically asked about. Our application is screened and met with approval. So we go back and are told that we are not good candidates for the puppies because they are a lot of work.... okay.... we inquired about meeting some other dogs. I had my 4 year old with me and the dogs we liked were too big, so we were deemed not a good fit. I guess if you have kids, you are only allowed to have small dogs. No big breeds. So we asked again about the puppies, stating we have dogs, we know its hard work, etc. No. We have never had THIS kind of dog before. So we cant see them. My kids left crying. Hiw are we supposed to rescue; adopt dont shop if no one can adopt the dogs. They should have been more up front and told us due to the age my child we would only be invited to look at small breeds. We would have went elsewhere. My kids have had big dogs their whole lives. Getting knocked down a time or two never hurt either of them. Too bad, a dog could have become part of our family today.

Adopted my Giant Schnauzer rescue from AWS in October 2013. He was mistreated and required weeks of work with veterinary behaviorists before we could bring him home. Cannot say enough good about AWS and their dedication to helping animals in need. Great staff. Dolph is my wonderful companion and furry friend.

They usually ignore ppl unless you have connection with someone they know like a friend of the manager example- no one care about homeless animals, they wont answer your calls or be rude. They get pay by the hour. THEY ASK YOU FOR LOCATION TO DENY HELP AND POST ANIMALS FROM ANOTHER STATES LIKE WEST VIRGINIA ETC, TAKE IN BY THEM. NOT SURE IF IS THRUTFUL OR JUST TO GET ATTENTION $$$$
