Consistent monthly outages during the 9-5 part of the day. Occurs for about 10 minutes each month during prime work hours.Speeds advertised are realistic.Costs run higher than other fiber companies, but has been around longer.Support team is responsive.

I know about 10 years ago this service was not very good but certainly the customer experience is much better now! If theres a problem, they fix it. Wi-Fi is reliable and fast. Cant complain since the prices are also very good now. Thank you gvtc!

Ive been with gvtc for probably 30 years Ive never had a bad experience. Theyre very polite and when they say theyre going to be where theyre going to be at your house theyre going to be there so you better be there when I get there. Youre very nice people after all this time I now receive a check once a year I dont know how I did that. I guess after youre with him a while they sign you into their something but I dont really know what it is I just know that I get it checked for around $200 every year so I would go with gvtc not only get good service but you get a pretty good check every year. Im sure that takes time to build up but like I said then within 30 years and I have no complaints. So give him a try if you dont like them you can always go somewhere else. Good luck

Horrible Service, I lost my Internet last night at around 9pm. Called about 10x this morning and all they gave me was a ticket number and have made me wait all day. Told me maximum It would take is 8hrs to give me a call back and I never got a that call back. I told them its urgent since I work from home, and have daughters in college needing to join their online classes. Here I go another night with no internet. Will probably have me waiting endlessly tomorrow.

I called for a problem and the technician did a great job to resolve the issue. Their pricing is up front and transparent. I wished they covered a bigger area. I would love to have them in San Antonio too. They have great customer service and I love that what they say is what it is on the monthly bill. It is not that way with other providers.

If I could leave no stars I would. What a horrible internet and TV provider., I have never experienced such poor service in my life. All of our channels work, except local. They want to charge 90.00 to have someone come fix a problem that they’re responsible for. This after paying a monthly bill that’s high to begin with, with poor internet reliability. Cancelling our service today, as soon as I find another internet provider Ill swap over.

Weekly slowdowns to absolute crawl from 200/200 mbps connection. Friday & Saturday nights from 9 PM to midnight the service is useless. I am in 78261 zip. Look elsewhere for internet service.

In the last few months we have numerous outages of internet throughout the day. So frustrating with the prices we pay for service. I feel like the market for service has grown so much that the companys technology can not keep up with the demand. almost like the electric company and the sad part about the service is that GVTC has the market over our area.

I was losing my Wi-Fi signal up to 2 or 3 times A-day and their answer was we dont know why I have since switched and have no problems with the new company whatsoever

We bought a house that was pre-wired throughout for cable and internet. When GVTC came out to set up/connect our fiber internet service the tech would not connect the internet to our existing whole-house wiring system; claimed we dont do that and put the modem on the floor of my bedroom. Kind of odd as GVTC connected my neighbors fiber to their pre-wired whole house wiring set up and we have the exact same house system. I have called the company over and over and over again to try and resolve with no luck. On multiple occasions, the technicians I spoke with have acted like they have no idea what Im talking about/requesting. I was also told by GVTC to just get another company to connect it to any existing wiring or just string really long cables from the my bedroom out into all the other areas of my house in order to connect them directly to our router. Seriously?! The house is already pre-wired in every room!!! I was never successful at reaching a manager and messages left for them were never returned. I got tired of calling & getting the run around and never being able to reach management, so I gave up on trying to resolve. Disappointed and beyond aggravated.

I’m having a tough time with this company so far. The technician who installed my internet was fine. Then I tried to use the app to verify my equipment so I could change my password. It didn’t work (tried several times) and no one has responded to my email. Then I got my first bill. It’s for $10 more per month than what I signed up for, and I have the email confirmation to prove it. I’m not looking forward to trying to actually reach someone and I don’t have much confidence that these issues will be resolved without difficulty.

I had a connection problem with my tv’s at work, and instead of automatically sending out a rep which would have cost me, they walked me through every possible connection problem till we figured it out. I was on the phone with them about a half hour.Technology and I are not the best of friends but my rep was very patient with me. So thank you GVTC !!

GVTC is the WORST telephone and cable company I have dealt with in 35 years of being a telecommunications customer and I have dealt with some really bad companies in the past. They are unprofessional and incompetent from the top down. I spoke to the CEO five years ago about the constant poor service and he appeared to have no clue about what was going on. Problems take forever to resolve and they often deny there is anything wrong when everyone up and down the street is having the same issues. GVTC customers deserve much better.

Setting the appointment was easy, the installer was kind and asked me what I was wanting letting me know it’s all up to me and my needs. He provided great in put and allowed me to make the decision on where I wanted the access point in my house to the WiFi. My only issue was after the install and he left, I noticed he just left a mess of drywall on my floor. Not an issue if he’d let me know but to just leave. That’s the reason for 4 stars not five.

My daughter has been working from home for months now and our old internet just couldnt handle the work load. We kept hitting the data cap so everything would slow to a crawl. The work servers wouldnt let her into certain systems because the connection wasnt secure enough. After having to drive to Austin to be able to finish a project enough was enough. GVTC was easy & quick to sign up for. The tech was professional, kept social distancing, wore a mask; as we were, & quickly got the installation done. So far we have had no problems.

My internet unexpectedly went down yesterday; so I called GVTC. They walked me through a few different things, but it still was not working. They sent a Technician out the very next morning and he resolved the situation within 20 minutes - No Charge! The Technician was very courteous and professional and explained everything in detail. I was having some connection issues, called for service and I can’t believe how lucky I was to have ROSS come out. He went above and beyond. Not only did he fix my connection issue by getting me a new router but he asked if I would like for it to be more centrally Located in the house. This is something that I originally asked the first guy that came out to install and I was told that was not possible. What’s really great about this is Ross actually offered the service without me asking (I wouldn’t have because I thought it “wasn’t possible”). He also got rid of some useless wires that hanging from the house that I wasn’t sure the purpose. THANKS ROSS

Trying to talk to a CSR is simply ridiculous! I’ve been attempting to talk to a person for almost half and hour now. A person answered approximately after 10 mins who told me my account was disconnected & he would transfer me. I received no name, didn’t get a chance to verbalize anything, and are still dealing w music & pre-recorded messages.Shorter waiting times & improves communication from CSRs will improve business! As long term GVTC customer I used to hate their service . It was extremely frustrating mostly due to their (lack of) their customer service. However, since we’ve upgraded to fiber we’ve had very little trouble and they have upgraded their customer service to a level that’s pretty acceptable. This company abuses the fact that it has a monopoly in pricing and uses accounting tricks. Be prepared that they will send you a 1099 at the end of the year that is reportable income to the IRS that you get to pay taxes on while they still charge you an exorbitant amount for service!

Direct hit by lighting to my residence at 6:05am took out my GVTC outside router card, buzzed alot of stuff inside the house and even popped my doorbell button out of the socket.Called GVTC at 7:30 am, on hold for only 3 minutes, got a ticket number and a phone call within 45 minutes to arrange 2 hour window for service. Tech arrived, diagnosed and fixed the issue within 15 minutes, installed a new card and tested my speed. Unfortunately my wifi router got a burst direct to the to the port, so it fried, but not their issue. I always have a new one in the closet, so everything good. Nice job! I would beg to see if Spectrum or others could have handled it that fast or that efficiently.Back to blazing speeds oncve again.

After starting service they called to say that oh wait the plan we sold you doesnt exist we have to up your plan by $100. After many calls and going in person they finally honored the contract that was already executed. Upon leaving service they hold the money they owe you in refunds for 3 months prior to giving it to you! Completely insane. I guess everyone should pay them 3 months late

Picture quality of TV is very good. I havent really noticed a big difference with the fiber optics for internet. Overall expense is very high compared to Spectrum. Especially for the non-premium cable channels at $99 extra. Contractor installer did not do a very good job installing cable boxes and the main cable box in our living room is very old and beat up. We should have been given a new unit. More than likely, we will be switching the Spectrum very soon.

I am a senior citizen with a fixed income. I do not watch a lot of TV. I do, though watch news or the decent series Hallmark mysteries. My contract will be up in Feb 2018 and will not renew my cable! It is out-rages what price I pay for my package......$189.00 just so I may watch what I want to watch. I have come to realize that I may use this $$ towards my groceries, utilities, and rent!

Terrible, terrible, terrible! We moved nearly a year ago from Boerne and had a hard time getting the account closed. First, they accused us of not turning in our equipment (which we did), then they billed our monthly fee for the next several months (which after calling and working through it, they would remove the charge), and then 6 months after no longer being a customer, they start telling us we owe them money for an over refunded payment that we completely disagree with. Then they send us to collections in the middle of the disagreement. I paid it to get them off our back. This is ridiculous!!!!!!

The quality of the cable interface was horrible.My billing is required to be on separate accounts, but they got it wrong and now instead of my employer paying for my internet I have to pay it.Cancellation policies are horrible, do your homework before you sign up. It was worth paying to get away from the low quality television service.Customer service is a long hold time followed by no help or ability to listen to a problem.

If I could give them less than 1 star, I would. Customer service is non-existent. WAAAAYYYY too expensive - my bill is just under $180 a month for basic cable TV and Internet. No phone service. They told me there was no way to reduce my bill, I had the least expensive package available. (My instinct tells me that is a lie, but if it isnt, how insane is that?). Have tried for 3 months to get account in my name (husband passed recently), and each month there is a new requirement. Meanwhile, they cant change anything - and my money keeps flying out the door to them. They even told me nobody could speak with me about pricing on anything. Literally they couldnt talk to me, until today. And every time, they keep saying Im sorry, but Im trying to help you. Another lie. Stay away from GVTC - FAR AWAY!

My Grammy uses GVTC, and every time Ive gone to see her, Ive had to call them because one or more of the services arent working. She pays a lot for the service and its not great by any means. The service personnel are always helpful and able to fix the problem. Its just a pain that there are so many problems.

Remember the days of dial-up internet? Well, you will if you have GVTC DSL.They keep brandishing their fiber offerings however it is only available to about 1/4 of their subscribers (35,000 fiber vs 101,000 DSL is what I read) so most likely DSL is what you will have.My DSL is advertised at 1.5 Mbps but its a good day if I get even half that. Most of the time its a lot less. Im attaching my test result with my laptop plugged directly into my modem and nothing else running. 24% packet loss and 0.07 Mbps download.And yes I did call customer service. They sent out a tech and he was great - replaced the phone box, wiring and modem. But to no avail. I think they just over sold what their backhaul can handle, because when I run a traceroute and ping the first router past my modem, I get much less packet loss.I asked what it would take to get fiber installed. They came back with .. wait for it ... $220,000 ! So unless youre good friends with Warren Buffett, dont expect it to change anytime soon.My wireless internet is getting about 10 Mbps - although a bit flaky with bad weather because I need a bigger tower - so I kept the DSL as a backup. But Im canceling the DSL tomorrow because at this rate its faster to ride to the library on horseback than to use the DSL.In fact paying $400 a month for a 1.5Mbit T1 is a lot better value than this DSL at $70/mo.EDIT: I attached screenshots of the speed test showing 0.07 Mbps download speeds and a ping test to 8.8.8.8 (google public DNS) showing 24% packet loss. But somehow those dont show in the review :(

We signed up to receive cable, they installed it. It didnt work. They sent a tech, who couldnt fix it and informed us it couldnt be fixed. I called them, they sent no one else. I asked to get out of my contract since it didnt work and had NEVER worked and they refused. GVTC is a monopoly and shouldnt be allowed to bully customers. I want to keep my phone and internet, but now have to pay for cable as well. We have DISH for cable...BUT STILL HAVE TO PAY GVTC. Because they wont listen to reason. It doesnt work, your guy said he cant make it work...yet I still have to pay. Makes total sense!

We figured out the issue (my puppy had gotten to a cord outside) and the service person was here a few hours later. All fixed and back up and online. Good job GVTC :)

I require a stable ip address which for over a year I have had. Then they made a change so my ip changes every 3 minutes! They want to charge me 15 more a month to have it the way it was. They claim for security purposes but when does extra security cost less? They did it to simply charge more money to people like me that require it. I cannot work with the new set up. My options are pay more per month even though I already pay way too much, or not work. They know they have a monopoly out here and will bend you over! They made the service worse and then ask for more money to have it back the way it was! Very very unhappy. Its like the water company putting lead in your water and then charging more per month for lead free. Absolutely disgraceful.

We are limited to a 20 MB per month speed in Canyon Lake, TX. Even though we are practically next door to GVTC.When we call for technical support they claim everything looks good on their end. Then they threaten to charge you for sending a tech out. They act like it is a hassle to support their own customers.Unfortunately if you live in this area they have a lock on it. You cannot get another internet service provider so you are forced to deal with a company whom does not care about you.

Ive called in twice to customer service and feel like Im talking to a friend. I spoke with a gentleman 1/29/16 to assist in connecting a digital adapter and he had me up and running within a minute and even have me tips to improve the quality of picture as well as program my remote. Worst customer service. Price gouges unapologetically. Roped into services I didnt need. Was told I could cancel or remove items. Billing ended up being 25 dollars MORE per month than what I was told to begin with. Then I was told I was locked in for 12 months to ALL services. Thats a minimum of 250 dollars they extorted from me as well as 42.65 in cable service I didnt want or need so another 511.80 I was forced to pay to them . Horrible horrible horrible customer service as no one was able to explain to me why I was lied to and when they were supposed to review my original call to verify what I was told they NEVER CALLED ME BACK . HIGHLY suspicious. Im tempted to contact the FCC about their billing practices. Each time I attempted to inquire or ask for them to correct the billing I was given lip service. Even up to today when I FINALLY was able to drop off the equipment (something else you have to do in order to cancel service) because we are fortunately moving.... I was given no explanation as to the events that led to my complete distrust of GVTC. Decided to upgrade internet from 50gb plan to the 250gb plan. Tech came out to push their new Calix router. I informed him I already had Google home. He tested the upgrade with Google Home by itself as well as with the Calix router. I was getting faster without their Calix router. The tech said he had to leave the router as a pass through, even though it wasnt helping. Within the next week, I was getting slower and more inconsistent speeds. I called again and another tech came out to review my system. He told an entirely different story. Stated the combination of Google Home and Calix was causing inconsistencies with their system. He would reach out to their IT dept and either the tech or the IT dept would call me back that same day. 4 days later, no call back from GVTC. I reached out to them, only to be told their are no issues from their end and everything is fine. They could escalate the issue again and get even though nothing was done the first time they escalated the issue. Each dept was great about blaming the other dept and getting absolutely nothing done. Lesson of the day, DONT UPGRADE UNTIL THEY KNOW HOW TO FIX THEIR NEW ROUTERS(CALIX) and FIND ANOTHER INTERNET PROVIDER!!!!

Recently my internet connection started dropping for no reason. After several calls I was told the fix was to install a newer model of router. The Zyxel Router had worked fine up to this point, but it was explained that they no longer install that one in homes with a fiber connection, and that I needed the new model. OK. They replaced the old router with a GigaSpire Blast. This router is a rather largish tower looking thing, with the latest wireless technology called WiFi 6 (802.11ax). Better signal, and better coverage, particularly in a one story home like ours. OK, fine.Here is where the problems started because of a lack of detail and follow through. I was not at home when the tech did the work, so he dealt with my wife, who is not tech savvy in the slightest. First, the GigaSpire Blast has exactly ONE LAN port. ONE. The old Zyxel router, which I deliberately insisted on, had FIVE LAN ports. I need all these ports for the numerous devices which were hardwired in my home that I do not want to connect to Wifi. The technician used MY switches, which I use for OTHER purposes, and connected all the hardwired devices that used to be connected to the Zyxel router to my switches, since his new router lacked the port capacity. What if I didnt have those switches in the closet? How would he have connected the devices that had previously been on a Zyxel router port? And what makes GVTC think they can just plug devices willy nilly into my equipment just because their new equipment lacks the port capacity? How about giving me a device WITH adequate port capacity?Additionally, the new router meant setting up all my smart devices again, such as my Echo Dots, and all my smart outlets and switches. Ugh. This took several HOURS. I kid not.Finally, there was ZERO manuals or documentation from the new router left by the technician, nor the box it came in. I still have all the manuals and the original box from the Zyxel. Why not leave documentation? The app that controls the new router does not really control it at all, and has no access to any of the advanced features to tell you how the router is actually configured - just a dumbed down smartphone interface. What was left was a hand written note giving the name of the app, and two lines about how to scan the QR code on the router to set it up on your phone. Sorry, that is NOT documentation.This was handled ok, but it could have been so much better if theyd paid a little more attention to detail, and understand the impact that such a change has on the customer environment.EDIT, 6 months later:If youre gonna send me a 1099 that says I received almost $500 in dividends, the least you could do is cut me a check - but thats another story.Just had another issue. The TV guide stopped working. The next day they came out and it was diagnosed as being caused by the little GVTC supplied 5 port switch that brings the internet connection to the router. They replaced the switch and we now have a guide. But there is something very disturbing here. About an hour after the first call reporting the trouble, our WiFi stopped working. I looked at the available networks and my SSID was gone. There was an entirely different SSID, which I never set up, in its place. They changed my SSID without my knowledge or consent! What? Really? I Changed the SSID back but now I had to go fix the connection to almost a dozen smart home devices. Ive never heard of a provider changing your SSID without consent or knowledge but they did. Unreal. Ive received no explanation for this action.

No local channels on basic program. Must pay over $100.00 just to watch channel I WANT TO WATCH. They know cant get on over the air antenna. Then they charge over $60.00 just for internet by not offering slower speeds. Dont need a bazillion mile per hour internet speed. On the positive side, their employees are top quality people. Friendly hard workers. Had a great experience with Koral, simply the best. Its a shame their higher ups are so greedy.
