I love this place and the people. This dojo is an authentic Japanese martial arts studio. The instructors are excellent and well respected in each of their arts, Jujitsu, Judo, and Aikido.I recommend anyone looking for traditional training to come visit and see what it’s all about! I’ve been training here for 5 years and love it.

Ive been practicing here since 2001, and I cannot say enough positives about this dojo. Traditional training compared to many others out there - youre learning more than exercise and conditioning, but martial arts, weapons training, competition, and defense! The instructors are more than reputable in their arts, but also communicators and teachers that stem from decades of practice and experience. If youre willing to take the time and effort to learn something authentic, give this place a try! Highly recommend!

My kids and I have been practicing at MATS for years. My son and I study jujitsu. My daughter studies judo and jujitsu. The instructors are superb martial artists and teachers. Please note: This is not an instant gratification type of place. You won’t get a black belt in six months. But if you stick with it, you’ll learn a solid martial art, meet some great people, and get a fantastic workout.

I started going to this Dojo back in 2015. I went to this dojo for nearly 2 years before I moved. This place changed my life. It is a place of community, strong traditional Aikido, Jujitsu, and Judo training. The training mat is of super high quality, which is especially nice for beginners.Spending time in many parts of the country, at many different dojos, Ive found none better in terms of community, staff knowledge (they have many black belts who teach/attend classes) and range of techniques taught.

I have been practicing here since 2011. Its a great place to continue your practice, learn something new, and pick up self defense techniques. Its also a fantastic workout! What gym lets you throw people around safely? It is also impossible to leave still upset about whatever was frustrating you when you walked in.

Ive been a student at MATS for years, and can recommend the instructors without reservation. It doesnt matter whether youre experienced or an absolute beginner, you can find top rate instruction and practice here. It doesnt matter whether youre in great shape or looking for a workout thats more than just repetition: You can work up to your potential in an atmosphere of friendliness and respect.-G.

This is a great dojo, and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a hard-working, friendly atmosphere to work out in. My middle schooler is too big for the childrens program, so he works out with the adults. I cannot believe how helpful and supportive they are. He loves going there, and he is learning a lot. I have had my kids in many different sports, and I have never been as impressed as I am with this program.

Been coming here for Ju-Jitsu on and off for a few months and I love it- the people are welcoming, dedicated to the art and committed to excellence. The workouts are intense and a good warm-up to the falls and defense strategies. Maureen Sensei and whoever is teaching provide constant feedback. The Dojo is always clean and spacious. Would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for learning defense techniques or practice competitive martial arts in a stimulating and nurturing environment.

Ive been practicing Aikido in this dojo for close to 2 years and it has been great. Its a very welcoming place with many experienced people to provide help and guidance. I have seen people of all ages working together, sharing, learning, and having fun. When I first started I had highly experienced people work 1 on 1 with me to get up to speed with the group. I had a lot of support and help when I was preparing for my first test. With the discounts for additional courses (they also teach Judo and Jiu-Jitsu) and as many classes as you can make approach it is a good deal.Overall I cant think of a better place to learn a martial art. And weapons. I mean, you can learn to wield a katana, just sayin.

Where do I even begin...When I came to Naperville I was looking for a good dojo- I had been trained in Taekwondo in India under an excellent Sensei. When I found MATS I was impressed with the dedication of the teachers. They love what they do ! And they DO NOT compromise on the quality of training. Thats what I wanted and is exactly what I got. So not only have I been a student here - my children have been coming to this dojo as well.I would highly recommend this dojo for those looking for serious (and classic) training in Ju-Jistsu, Judo, Aikido.

As the parent of a young woman who has practiced Aikido at this dojo for 15 years, since she was 8, I can recommend it without reservation. Having watched firsthand how Aikido has helped her with everything from homework to learning to drive I have only the highest praise for MATS. The standard of teaching and purity of practice are well supported by the backgrounds of the instructors from the top down. And the development of this art has benefitted my daughter in every area of her life. It is one of the greatest blessings of her childhood. She continues to practice there today and I am honored to be the mother of the fine woman she has become under the tutelage of the MATS Aikido family.

The dojo is amazing. Aikido brings so much energy to your body and soul. Everyone is respectful and the instructors are excellent. I have trained there for 8 years in traditional Japanese Aikido. Beginners are always welcome and can look forward to a safe environment in which to train. The owners are not in business to get your money. They are real people dedicated to supporting and training in Judo, jujitsu and Aikido.

I love this place, Ive been studying jujitsu there for years. I found them very accomodating as a newcomer, I quickly became hooked. The judo program, which trains at the same time as the jujitsu, has and is training nationally ranked competitors, so they are obviously doing something right.I know less about the Aikido program, but they are very friendly and if thats your interest you should probably check them out!

Not a friendly place. I joined the Downers Grove park district Aikido class back in the 90s. I was thrust into an advanced class with no basics taught at all but a gentleman name Gussman. I tried for several weeks, but was never taught any basic Aikido, just expected to learn what the advanced students were learning and have fun. I stopped and got my money back. The next experience was with Gussmans wife. We showed up to the Aurora facility and immediately she approached my wife and handed her a domestic violence pamphlet, WTF??? Wow, thanks for assuming that I am beating my wife missy! And this is when I just walked in the door to talk about my kids taking classes. These people are kind of psycho. Plenty of normal martial arts schools in the Fox Valley area, steer clear, they have problems and are having trouble staying in business.
