People in the store were nice and welcoming. But I wasnt informed when my daughters flute was ready from an online order so I had to reach out to them. My neighbor did not have this issue, to be fair. Then there was an issue with accidentally double-buying a music book. Trying to get the return for it was a frustrating process. I had been told I was issued a refund and it wasnt. I had to talk to so many people and repeat things. My daughter still has a flute from them. I almost hope band will be canceled for my daughter so to avoid potential issues in the future with this business, though she is looking forward to learning to play. Im assuming it was a weird confluence of circumstances but it wasnt a positive experience. Every person I talked to was nice but the whole process could use improvement.
Not impressed! We paid for a maintenance plan and asked if instrument could be cleaned and repaired. They fixed it, but looks dirty. I called and he said they only do a chem flush only on the core. They dont clean the instrument. I dont get that.... after paying for 4 years for a maintenance plan! We were told we have a free cleaning every year and never took advantage of it until after 4 years of paying for maintenance. We cleaned it ourself all the time. I feel like we wasted a lot of money on a maintenance plan as I wanted it professionally cleaned so my other son can play it for band.
I came into the store close to closing time on a Sunday, wanting to rent a violin and see about lessons. James, the clerk on duty, was not only pleasant and helpful, he also fitted me up with the last student violin in stock that week. He gave me a mini-lesson in holding the violin, tuning, and even holding the bow. He did not rush the process, despite the late hour, but instead, answered all of my queries about taking classes and choosing a teacher who he thought would best suit my needs and personality. A month now into lessons, I can see that he did choose well, with a teacher, Erik, who is straightforward and precise and insistent upon developing good form before rushing into playing melodies. I am pleased with the service and the lessons.
Really great experience. I wanted to get a keyboard so I could start learning how to play for my New Years resolution. The staff was great, James, helped me find exactly what I needed and he got me set up with my piano lessons. I have been learning for about a month now and its going great. Thanks!
Every time weve visited this location, the staff have been very helpful and knowledgeable. They also work well as a team: When I brought my sons viola in just to have a broken string replaced, the person who took the instrument suggested that they have a string specialist look at it to make sure that all of the other strings and other elements of the instrument were in good shape, and then she hooked us up with a loaner viola in a matter of minutes.
I have always been pleased with my experiences here. If they dont have it, they will find a way to get it for you. Great customer service!!!
Terrible service. Person had a lady decide on which day worked best for lessons how many to buy and tuned a violin before taking 60 seconds to check my one item out. Seriously? Should have just walked out.
Walked in with money ready to buy a piano for my wife. The man at the cashiers desk didnt look up or acknowledge I was there. The girl at the front desk glanced up but didnt ask if I needed any help. Very disappointed.
Ive taken piano lessons from Paula An-Kumara for the past 2 years. Shes a wonderful teacher. Im an older adult beginner. She gives a lot of practical guidance and is very encouraging, which has kept me motivated. Ive seen her teach 5 -7 year olds & they seem to really enjoy her too. All the sales staff are super helpful.
Wonderful Experience!! My 5th grader started band this year and we were referred to Schmitt Minnetonka for her Clarinet rental, stand and music books. Excellent customer service, helpful, knowledgeable staff, VERY affordable rates for instrument rental!
My daughter needed to pick out an instrument for band and she had no clue what she wanted to play. With no appointment they introduced her to the instruments and she was able to pick!!Thank you for taking the time to do this, I was in choir so I was no help at all!! :)
Scam alert: they are more than willing to sell you a used viola for $800, and then to swap it out for a larger one for a new payment contract when you need it. But they dont buy back used instruments, and no one else will take their brand. So, if you buy a viola from this place, dont expect to every get a penny back unless you can find someone to sell to directly. And if you are thinking about buying, find someone that they scammed already who is looking to sell.
I love this place! Even if I just go in to ask questions, the staff is always friendly and willing to share expertise.
In response to Harolds review.....I am not associated with Schmitt Music, but I do have a daughter who is a cellist. Harold complained that Schmitt wouldnt give him his money back when the instrument was outgrown so that he could go elsewhere and buy/rent a larger instrument from a different vendor. Instead, Schmitt was willing to swap the too small instrument out for a larger one necessitating the second instrument being bought through Schmitt Music again. Harold, I hate to tell you this, but thats how it works at virtually every string store. Schmitts policy on this is no different than anywhere else. If you rent it through a rental program, you continue to rent through the program until something is either purchased or you decide to take your losses. The only way to avoid the policy is to outright buy the instrument from the very beginning (no rental program involved) and sell and buy as you wish. Or, your kid could play a band instrument. Those are not sized. They just are what they are.
Great music store. The manager, Alec, was very knowledgeable and helpful. Will be going back for sure.
Out of all the times I have been to Schmitt Music, the staff has been very helpful and knowledgeable.
Friendly staff. Easy drop off and loaners when repairs are needed (if you get your instrument through Schmidt.)
Support Schmitt and STOP shopping at guitar center. You can find anything you need here and the staff is extremely helpful.
