Fantastic experience. I had a lot of very old and fragile tapes, many of them with mildew damage. I desperately wanted to preserve them, but wasn’t sure how many of them could be saved. I feel fortunate that I came across these folks. They did a beautiful job preserving some really cherished memories. I plan to go back soon with some film real, too.

Exceeded my expectations! Brought in 10 VHS tapes, most around 30 years old including my parents wedding video. Was slightly worried about something going wrong or not working but Thor reassured me that the tapes were in good shape and explained the process they used for transferring. He handled everything professionally. He was organized with the labeling on both the tapes as well as the digital copies which helped me a lot since the tapes themselves were hand labeled so it was easy to align with the digital copy. Needed to bring my own flashdrive for the data transfer, would have gladly paid to have it included in the purchase. The timeline was fair, 4-5 weeks I believe and the pricing was transparent with no surprises at the end. Have skimmed through all the videos and the quality is fantastic. Much better than I remember a VHS tape being. Would have liked an update along the way because I had to call to check in if the project was done, other than those small things, extremely pleased and will be back to transfer more in the future.

Thor and his team were so helpful converting our VHS tapes into digital form on a flashdrive! In early December, I decided I wanted one of my presents to my parents to be old home videos converted into digital form! I called up Saving Tape Media Conversion, and I was able to drop off the tapes that day! These folks are heros! I had two old VHS tapes of my mother, who passed away when I was a baby, that had been sitting in a basement and had started to fill with mildew. Thor and the Saving Tape team were able to salvage the footage almost completely despite the mildew, and got it done in time for Christmas to boot. The footage was higher quality than I expected, even without the mildew issue. Thor was friendly and informative during every step of the process. The price was very reasonable as well. If you need any sort of tape converted, this is the place to do it.

I’ve driven by Saving Tape countless times and am glad to finally had a reason to visit. I was roped into creating a wedding video on short notice and an authored DVD was required to display it for the wedding party. The crew at Saving Tape Media converted a set of non-viewable home movie DVDs to mp4 format and put them on a USB drive--they had previously been converted from tape to DVD elsewhere. I really cant thank Thor and his team enough for their work on the 8mm films I brought in for conversion. Without Saving Tape.. the family movies my father took back in the late 60s up to early 80s, would have been lost.In the first round of clearing out my Fathers home, I found 20 reels of family movies he had taken. I brought those in to Saving Tape. Less than a month later I had all 20 movies on a single flash drive! My teenage daughters got quite a kick out of seeing me as a toddler.In the more thorough cleanout of my fathers home, I found another box of film. 26 reels this time. Outstanding work. We had over 2,000 slides developed and converted to digital after our uncle passed. I came into Saving Tape not knowing what tapes I wanted to have transferred to video files. They kindly allowed me to view the files via a VHS and video camera for three hours that afternoon. This was so appreciated! It did take two months to receive my files after that day I dropped them off, but overall I was pleased with the quality of the video files and service.

We ran into a big problem while converting years worth of VHS tapes of our family growing up. An old tape had gone bad, gummed together, and was literally peeling off its backing and carrying the sentimental video on it into oblivion. The cassette had been set aside but, when my wife saw the label, she realized that the contents were hours of school plays and first days of class. Cant you do something? she pleaded. Thor looked down. Well...we *are* called saving tape he mused. In short, these guys did not give up. Working at a forensic level of recovery worthy of a CSI episode, they rescued the old cassette, peeling the tape onto a new reel, inch by painstaking inch. In the end, the tape and those Wonder Years were rescued from disaster. The employees get the value of the items theyre working with. Why send your stuff off to some mail-order house when you can get this kind of service right here in Minneapolis?

Our production company went to Saving Tape to convert film slides and 16mm expedition footage from the 1970s for a documentary were producing. Saving Tape does the absolute best conversion work around. Very helpful. Very friendly. True artists.This is our second big project with them, and we wouldnt consider going anywhere else. Saving Tape are a great team that do great work! Ive had several projects done there, including conversion of a priceless reel-to-reel audio recording of a musical that was performed in 1978, several old super8s from the 60s and 70s, audio cassettes, and a 25-minute 16mm film with a magnetic soundtrack that I made when still a high school student in 1974. When I somehow lost the DVD they made of that last film, they went way beyond the call of duty to dig out the original I had left with them several years ago and re-do the conversion so I could do a special showing of the film! I’ve used Saving Tape for 5 projects, they’ve been amazing every time. I had them transfer many many slides from the 1940s-1960s to thumb drives & convert precious old family videotapes to DVD’s. The owner Thor and his staff have always gone the extra mile and surpassed my expectations. A friend of mine had them digitize Super 8 film after another company botched the job. He was very pleased with the results as well.

The film you digitized is a direct example of the reason we need to convert these things while we have a chance. In that movie I was 8 years old. The film was all shot in one day. Some adult had let the kids use the 8mm to record a goodbye as my family moved from Minnesota to Madison WI. At the end I am holding a piece of paper that reads something along the lines of Goodbye Sam and Chris, we love you. That unsteady film immediately transported me back to a time and place so incredibly important to me. I havent had the ability to revisit that place until seeing that movie. Uniquely positioned to give you access to media that previously was locked behind the wall of outdated storage formats. 20 min after I got my digital files I was able to stream my home movies on my Plex media server via WiFi in my house. Finished product is mp4 files but guessing they can work with you if you have a preference.

These guys are awesome. My mom was terminally ill and given only a few weeks to live, I needed someone to transfer a pile of old family VHS tapes to digital quickly and called 3 companies around the Twin Cities before discovering Saving Tape. Everyone told me that it would take weeks to convert the tapes, but with an expediting fee Saving Tape was able to turn the project in just a couple days and the videos turned out great.My mom was able to spend the last of her days watching videos of her life from 20-30 years ago and this was a very, very special thing. Ive used Saving Tape for 16mm home movie conversion, slide scanning, and VHS digitization. In regards to their results and service, I have two comments.First, the technical quality of the work is exceptional. Their investment of equipment and knowledge to digitally scan film is apparent in the results. Compared to a typical mass-market digitization service, Saving Tape aims much higher, and they hit their mark. Had 8MM film transferred by Astound. What I got back looked awful, but I figured the film had deteriorated since it was originally transferred to VHS in 80s. Recently, I got my hands on an old projector & ran the original film through it. I was shocked to see how good the film still looked. Saving Tape took that stock & transferred it beautifully. If youre looking to transfer/save anything, youd be crazy not to use them. AND, they really cared. How often do you run into that?

Saving Tape did an amazing job restoring our old tapes (that are probably in the Smithsonian now) and converting them to DVD and MOV files. They are the nicest group of people, from the moment we called to ask about prices all the way to the end when we had follow up questions. In my family’s case, we wanted to convert our old home videos, but we weren’t 100% sure what was on each one/how long each tape was. The cool part was, Saving Tape has a space in the studio where you can view each tape and reminisce for a while about old memories. Saving Tape did an excellent job of converting slides and home movies from my parents estate. The conversion represents a lifetime of my fathers hobby of photographing and filming family events and vacations. Each sibling has a flash drive and DVD of the archive, and the original slides are ordered and packaged so that they can be easily stored.

I have been Christmas gifting Super 8 transfers for the last several years and had been using COSTCO and their outsourced company Yes Video. This year my DVDs came back extremely blurry to the point that I couldnt send them as gifts. The response from Yes Video was that the film was shot out of focus. I then set up an appointment with Thor at Saving Tape to examine the film. Thor found that the film was shot in focus and offered to transfer the film using his new cutting-edge equipment. Excellent result! My vacuum cleaner hose pulled out and broke up tape from a many years old, special remembrances cassette. I brought my calamity to these folks and they must be magicians! I highly recommend Saving Tape after a very successful project. We worked with Thor Anderson, converting audio and video tapes (first used for making a major film), so that the interviews (in total, not just those segments used for the film) could be preserved for archival usage into the future. Now on CDs are hundreds of hours of taped interviews of significant value for Holocaust studies, specifically the Church Struggle under Hitler. Persons no longer living, but interviewed in the 1980s, are now documented for all subsequent generations. Saving Tape, specifically Thor, not only copied the raw footage, but spend considerable time helping us decide what was original and worth preserving and what was copied and of lesser value. His historical sense of things was really helpful. Their staff was very flexible, yet accomplished our project on time and within our budget. We now have high quality materials for students of this topic in the future. (Because the original reels were 16 mm, we were unable on our own to convert these to disks; Saving Tape secured the proper equipment to do our conversion.)John W. The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy has a U-matic tape collection that forms a one of a kind irreplaceable historic document of the early farm leaders, historians and farm activists coming together under one roof to share experiences and knowledge. After a recommendation from the MN Historical Society, we brought them to Saving Tape for transfer to DVDs and digital files. Thor and his staff took the time to make sure we understood what would be involved in the process, the sound enhancement was exceptional and their patience for splicing sections of tape back together was amazing. We are more than fortunate to have them in Minneapolis, especially because they have the knowledge and expertise to work on projects in need of special handling. We will definitely use their services again.

Ive had 8mm film and VHS tapes converted by Saving Tape. Film that my Grandmother found from 1959 was converted quite successfully to .mp4. We couldnt believe our eyes

I have worked on several transfer and edit projects with Saving Tape Media. It is always a fun and relaxed experience. The only reason I give this a one-star is because I was not there I was across the street at the laundromat doing a load of laundry which is on the corner of Grand Avenue South and 36th Street East Minneapolis now I seen the store across the street and was wondering why would you want to save your VHS onto a CD I dont see the concept of saving it on a CD when there is technology out for microchips and why would you want it on a DVD or CD I just dont see the concept of that I can understand that he created this business not knowing that the future or what was going to come out but I think you might want to change it up youre probably not doing much business youre probably just doing like what people you know theyre moving up in the world cuz theyre old timers Im sorry I dont see the concept of your business so I give it one star because I dont see you really doing a big part in everyday life thank you
