One of the best German restaurants I have ever been to. It is a bit on the pricey side but it is worth every penny. Fantastic beer list, it even had hard cider which I enjoyed. You could share a plate but there is a small charge. They had a accordionists who played songs which added to the fun atmosphere. Seriously you need to go to this restaurant you won’t be disappointed.

Oh my word whats not to love. From the cheerful atmosphere to the authentic German cuisine Gasthof is a happening place.The food is incredibly delicious and you get generous helpings.Live musicians stroll the restaurant and at all your favorites German or not. They are truly fine entertainers interacting with the family, and kids.On Saturdays they have a polka band in the basement open to all family members until 11 pm then adults only.We shared the Bavarian platter for two and yet we brought home left overs.The Gasthof serves up a party atmosphere and almost everybody is celebrating some special occasion.The decor is quintessentially German with nice woodsy quaintness. It brought back memories of me and my wifes time living in Germany.

I was part of a group of 11, the service was impeccable. The waitress made sure all of our needs were taken care of. The gentleman that came over to sing, and play the accordion was entertaining, and he made us all feel like we were part of the Gasthof family.

Weve been here multiple times over the years. Its a great place with a fun atmosphere, good service, and great food and beers!!! My wife selected it for her retirement dinner a couple years ago and we all had an amazing time. Tonight we were there to celebrate our 37th anniversary. My favorite beer is the Hafbrau original (its as smooth as silk). My favorite Entree is Jaeger Schnitzel (although I keep trying to convince myself to try some of the others). I think it has been featured on Diners, Drive-Inns, and Dives for the monster sausage (a friend ordered it and it was amazing). In addition to the main menu they also have a bar menu that has lots of good stuff also including an amazing pretzel!!! The waitperson took our picture and asked what we were celebrating and the kitchen sent us a free piece of their Black Forest cake as well!!!

We went for dinner with our food club and had a lot of fun. The cheese plate is ginormous and worth the $18. Lots of savory meat and potatoes variations as expected. The saurbraaten was the crowd favorite. Supper club prices.

This is one of my favorite places to organize a group dinner. The food is fantastic, the beer is okay but Das Boot makes it better. When you’re done with dinner head on downstairs and enjoy the night with some music and dancing!ziggy ziggy ziggy oy oy oy

My boyfriend loves this place, and I can see why! There are so many options of German beer, and the food is delicious. The environment is pretty cool and warm. I’m glad I went.

Not able to fly to Germany for dinner? Then head over to Gasthof’s! Delicious authentic traditional German cuisine in a cozy environment, you’ll feel like you are in a pub in Germany. The service is great! There is also an accordion player making the rounds throughout the restaurant. My husband and I ordered two huge meals that we ate off of for days! We also enjoyed delicious German beers. And the apfel strudel for dessert ended our meal on a high note! I love this place!

Wonderful place and very family friendly on calm nights. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic! If you like German food, they got it all...even the schweinshaxe...and of course beer! However; the menu flavor can be a little bland and carry that same taste for all dishes...but it is the German flavor. I do recommend this place.

Always an excellent meal at Gasthofs. We were immediately seated on a busy Friday night. Our server was amazing at making sure our whole meal was delicious and ran smoothly. The beer and food were great, we ordered one of the platters to share and was amazed by the sheer amount of food that was provided.Absolutely stuffed with leftovers to bring home. Also most of it was pretty good, which was surprising. Whenever I see a huge platter of food I immediately think that it cant be all that great. Gasthofs was the exception to the rule.Would definitely come back when I am hungry again in a year or so.

Went during lunchtime saturday so no live music. Most things were excellent like the beef stroganoff, chicken alfredo with spaetzle, sauerbraten, rouladen, cheeseburger, goulash soup, salads. Dont recommend very plain chicken spaetzle soup, other chicken dishes that come on platters (everything deep fried is too much for me). Great beer, wine, cocktails. Good place for groups.

Great atmosphere and a good selection of German beers and food. Highly recommend the platters in order to get a good variety if youre not sure what you want. They come with a shot of delicious apple schnapps to top it all off!

Great service with great food. Come any time of year but arrive early if going to the Oktobefest Celebration because it gets busy. Have a Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot and a piece of Black Forest Cake. All the cuisine is tasty!

Delicious foods and veggie options. Wonderful accordion player there most nights. Gave us free cake for celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was such good Black Forest cake we forgot to snap a pic before devouring. Trivia on Thursday!

We came for Oktoberfest, and this authentic German bar experience is the best in Mpls. Drinking from the boot, Hammerschlagen, live Polka band that can play some other hits, its fantastic! Just dont steal their giant glasses, they frown upon that.

In a word: Delightful. My experience at Gasthof was really enjoyable. Sat in the bar area, and it was such a fun experience to have the accordionist play music while drinking authentic German beer. Ordered the pretzel for an appetizer to share, which came out fresh and hot, and was delicious before ordering a beer bratwurst off their Wurstküche menu. Great experience! I will definitely be back without question.

Great German food and beer! Great atmosphere, polka and snuff!

We got the platter for two and still had two lunches the next day. I loved the parmesan chicken with spaetzle (white sauce) and the beef with raisin sauce (dark sauce). He loved the wienerschnitzel (veal).The atmosphere is really the start of the show though. Chanting, shots, accordion players and make sure you ask for the snuff after the meal. Very loud though, not good for the older folks who want to hear about your recent vacation.

I think this was my third time there. This time was with friends. The food is always amazing. The beer boots keep flowing and the tableside accordion players make the night a great experience. Can be a little on the spendy and loud side but always memorable.

The food was fantastic, the servers were awesome. From the moment I came to the place up until I was gonna leave, the servers were very polite and professional. I celebrated my birthday today in this excellent restaurant. Well we had a astonishing evening and the place was definitely one of the reasons for the fruitful event. We spent a lovely experience there with excellent dishes and a courteous crew and a talented cuisine. We added this fine restaurant in our phone list and we will no doubt return very soon. Really didn’t want to write a bad review because the staff was really nice. But first of all going with one other person who’s also never been there before, it was so hard to even talk to them. Because of how loud the accordion playing was. And until I had a drink down, was just rather annoying than anything. I really didn’t want to do the platter but based on what we were going to pick, my date suggested it. When i told the lady we wanted to try the two soups, she basically told me no, because the platter would be more than enough food. Or asked if we wanted to substitute instead of the salads included, and then when I said sure I guess we can do that.. she asked us what dressing we wanted. (Again the accordion playing was so loud, there was literally no good way of communicating). So I was left very confused, and ultimately asked a different server to get us the soup. But honestly I should have taken her advice, because it wasn’t even good. I’ve been to Germany loads of times, and I have to say the food is kind of a sad impression. The “goulash” tasted just like any regular hearty vegetable soup, you could buy from the grocery store.(and I’ve had better) and the chicken dumpling, had no flavor at all, and had the same type of dumplings they use for their spaetzle. Which was like overly big/ wormy, and mushy in texture, and on its own, from the platter was absolutely tasteless, and soggy almost as if it sat in water for too long. And the actual dumplings from the platter, though more tradition, were also so disappointing. Nothing was outstanding, a lot seemed pretty bland, especially for what you pay for. We took our abundance of leftovers home, but knowing I have had enough. And would be fine not going back, unless it was just for drinks.

My compliments to the chef!! I don’t have Duck often but the Duck I had last night was juicy without being gooey with fat and the skin was nicely crisped! Our family enjoyed every that was ordered, the only real complaint we have was it was hard to hear each other. Other than that, the atmosphere and total experience was wonderful. My first time there. Was celebrating my birthday. Staff and service were fantastic. Such a fun atmosphere. My only complaint was that the food was a little bland. Dumplings had no flavor, rouladen could have been more tender. Overall, a fun time.

The food was delicious as always. My family and I come here often and we have never been left down. Whether you come to eat or just have a beer or two, this place has what you need. Dont forget to try the schnapps if you are able to, the pear and cherry are top notch.

The basement was an entirely new experience. Ive only been at Gasthofs for Oktoberfest, so I knew nothing about the vibe. This just became my new favorite bar. The music was so much fun, and the crowd was the perfect mix of messy and respectful. It was everything from frat bros to a full wedding party. Cant wait to convince the friends to discover this hidden gem.

The food was really good. The accordion player was great. It was very busy. I took a star away because the parking lot was completely full, so we had to walk a little ways, and because it was really loud inside.

Been coming here for dinner during Octoberfest for about 20 years now. The atmosphere is great, accordion players will play German classics at your table. Hoisting your drinks to everyone in the room and cheering each other is a welcoming and great experience. Then you cant forget the food, we usually get the platters, it says for two but youll be taking good home with you. The more people you bring with you the better!

While it has a relatively new owner, theyve only improved it over the past couple years. Still have excellent authentic German food and beer and helpful staff, but the partial remodel created a great upstairs bar. Rest of the main floor and basement (thankfully) remain the same

From the moment you step in that place the stuff gives you a nice feeling. Very warm team, it is a nice place to to go out with friends and colleagues or with your date. enjoyable cooking, creative chef, honest cost and generous service. Warmly recommended.

Beer and service was great but the roasted ham hock was not prepared correctly. It should be finish baked at a high temperature to puff up the fat and make it crisp. Very disappointing. Cabbage dishes were missing spices. As if theyd just come from a can. Gravy had no flavor.

They offer a vast variety of delicious food. I enjoy eating here. The employees are always friendly, rates are convenient and the spot is always well organised.

Good atmosphere and great beer selection. We were meeting a group of friends and had a good time. Only downside was our waitress had no interest in keeping any of our drinks full. We had to flag her down multiple times to have drinks refilled.

The wife and I went there on a whim. We had the best time. The accordion player was phenomenal, took request, and was a great all-around player. The atmosphere in the service is absolutely top-notch. We ordered the Bavarian house platter and ate off of that for two days. Huge portions and excellent cold German beer. Probably the best poured Dunkel Ive had in a long time. I really believe this place is a hidden treasure. They get pretty busy on weekends so I do suggest that you call for a reservation. You wont be sorry you went.

Very friendly and accommodating staff, the restaurant itself is is fun and amazing, but the food and beer selection is what set itself apart from the competition. The best thing here was the beer.The biggest problem is the quality and authenticity of the food. The schnitzel was downright greasy and breading was not even close to crisp at all. The salad was fine and the dressing was nice, but the salad looks like it was poured out of a bag.We were also seated on the bar side that loses the authenticity, but would have easily looked past that if the entree was even close to quality.When you’re charging $23-$29 for an entree for a total of $70 or more for a couple with a single drink each this is disappointment.

The Gasthof was hopping on a Sat night when our group of 20 arrived. Our waitress did a great job of coordinating drinks and food orders and more drinks while 2 different and very talented accordion players strolled table by table to give personal attention to all. Then we got dinners... very tasty authentic German dinners... I was in haven! It a great old world experience just blocks from downtown Minneapolis.

The last time I was here was about 2005 or so? Dont recall completely. My wife and I got a wild burr to do some polka and waltzing because, hey, we are in our 40s now and our hips dont do much bumping and grinding anymore. So, we went recently, and we still love this place. German bill of fare for food, the beer boot, dancing, and great atmosphere. We did the polka and waltz early in the evening. The floor was wide open at 8pm, but I was told that it picks up around 10p. Live music for polka, and then DJ later in the evening for the bump and grind. After all, they still are a party bar. Service is excellent, and since the smoking ban, its been much more pleasant dancing in the basement. I hope this place stays around fora while, because it truly is a unique experience.

This place waa great.They did really well for how busy and crowded it was during Oktoberfest in the outdoor tent.The basement, which is only open after 9pm, could use some better bartenders however. They were not pleasing to be around.

We recently held our sons rehearsal dinner there for about 70 people. We ordered the trays of food, which is mostly meat. In addition to the beer and food, they provided accordion players and the waiter and waitress were awesome. We had a fun time, helped by the initiative and enthusiasm of the work staff. The food and beer was great and the cost fair. Our guests felt it was unique and exceptional quality.

Good music and dancing. Wait for a drink was a little long, but overall not too terrible. Some of the other people there were acting weird and tried to steal my friends jacket but the bartender noticed and stepped in so that was really nice. Would come back for a night of dancing.

The food was really lacking in technique here. Vastly overpriced for what you get. The menu pages stick together. The decor outdated. The entertainer going from table to table was so loud we had to yell at each other to hear the person sitting elbow to elbow with you. They were nice people but this place has already said goodbye to its heyday.

Great food, beer and environment. The festivals are incredible and the basement has a dance floor that gets really fun late at night. Great place for any event.
