NOPE. This is no hospital. Had to put our beloved cat down today. We came to the driveway, we texted that we needed help. Instead of doing anything, they turned us away to another emergency hospital that took 30 minutes to get to. Didn’t bother to even offer a quick look. Our love suffered longer than necessary, DO NOT COME HERE. Screw you all.

Haven Lake is an absolute mess. The receptionists are so rude, slow, and seem to know absolutely nothing about animals or the services they provide. If you want to wait over 40 minutes after your scheduled appointment time while listening to four receptionist complain non-stop just to see a different vet every visit, this is your place!

First, I would like to say that Dr. Adkins is fantastic. She has always been very straightforward and honest about issues she finds, explains her reasoning as she works, and has an excellent holistic attitude toward treatment. She is worth putting up with any other issues related to this clinic. She is the reason I have not looked elsewhere for my veterinarian needs. The other vets are excellent too. I have needed to have a cat euthanized at this facility, and it was performed with a lot of care for both my and my cats emotional wellbeing. That said, over the last 6 months, I have had numerous issues with non-responsiveness from the clerical staff. I have ordered medications and needed to call several times to ensure it was filled. When the medications were ready, I have had to text the clinic several times to let them know I was there (Covid protocol) before receiving a response, allowing more than 10 minutes between texts. Sometimes they just dont respond to the texts, so Im left to call, which is just declined half the time as if I were hung up on.In an attempt to alleviate the issue, I placed an order for the medications on PetMeds, and that order now says no response from vet/clinic because PetMeds is also being ignored or hung up on. They are not responding to PetMeds calls, emails or faxes. I received a text from the Haven Lake staff saying that I should have enough medications for a few more months, and I texted back that I never picked it up from them because I never get a response and dont want to just walk in during Covid restrictions. I have not received a response from that thread. The staff has never been explicitly rude to me, but it has been very frustrating the last few months.

Every visit has been a positive experience. The front desk, the technicians, and the two vets I’ve seen so far (Dr. Adkins and Dr. Francis) take great care of my puppy. They spend a lot of time with you, answer all your questions, and just genuinely care for the well being of their patients. I also really love that you can text with questions. I don’t think any doctors office in any field of medicine is as responsive. Highly recommend!

My mother went to take our dog to get checked. We informed them that one our family members were sick and they told her to step outside during the process because many of the workers werent vaccinated. She understood and followed what they said so the rest of communication was done over the phone. As the forms were done the desk called her. My mothers primary language is Spanish, yet she can speak english very well. She had no issue during the transactions she had when she first walked in. However, when she first spoke to the desk over the phone, They immediately respond over the phone I cant understand you! and hung up. My mother continued calling back to try and explain the scenario to the best of her ability and was endlessly given the same response every call with an enormous amount of sass and talk-back. We felt utterly disrespected and not felt welcomed because the staff was unwilling to help someone regardless of language differences. of course my mother was enraged and bit back, but it was out of frustration from the decks comments after trying to explain something clearly multiple times. Rather than staying on the line and putting an effort to listen and understand my mothers needs, who literally spoke clearly to desk, was instead pushed away and denied services when the appointment was already in process. She couldnt even finish getting the dog checked in the end. We go to Haven Lake every time our dog showed signs of trouble and wed be given well service. We were shocked, disappointed, and felt discriminated. What is this the 1900s?

They did her puppy care, her routine shots, helped her through injuries and illnesses that happened while she was hunting and showing and trialing in rally, obedience, Scent Work, tracking, Therapy Dog, upland game hunting, lure coursing, rat finding in barns--a new sport--and look how glorious she is! This is her at 5.5 years old, running 25.25 miles per hour.

(My husband had taken our dog he is 11). 1130 am appointment. The vet was rude and hateful. She was rushing because it was the last pet for the day and wanted to go.. (Her words) She gave misinformation about pet meds. Then proceeded to try and make my husband get every test under the sun. All we wanted was a nail trim and had a couple questions. Later same day, I called to ask a question about a nail trim that had just been done and ask about some of the stuff on the bill because I didnt understand it. The receptionist said no joke. There is a lady complaining about a nail trim... she didnt even pay for then promptly put me on hold. Nasty!!First, my husband pointed that out to them when they handed the bill to him. They told him it was part of the office visit. OK I didnt think that was correct but cool. Second, we didnt ask for a hand out. I would have gladly paid to have my dogs nails done. Now I remember why I stopped using them 4 years ago. They are misinformed, way to test happy and all they CARE about is money. Not your pet.

I’ve been coming to this office for the passed 16 years and the quality of service is far below usual. My last visit was yearlys for my two female dogs plus a pre exam for one of our dog to be fixed. Walked in the door at 4:30 and my credit card was ran through at 4:57. So rush through our visit plus one of our dog was ill and we ask when we made the apt. for the dr to check her out and she didn’t. Plus I was yell at by a tech to give her space as she struggled with my ill dog for the Dr to give shot and take blood. After shots everyone left the room and then a tech came back and ask for me to wait out front. Almost $500. Latter and we moved on to Blue Pearl In Christiana for help with our sick pet. One exam and they found large rectal polyps and sent us the the Philly VSEC, only to find out that our 3yr old Portuguese Waterdog is riddle with cancer and has not much time left. Will never come to this vet again. Shame on all who waited on us that day 4:30pm, 9-24-2020

I dropped my dog off on Tuesday morning to have a procedure to tie back what was diagnosed as a larynx paralysis. This was supposed to be a routine procedure. I get a call midday that he was having a problem breathing when trying to bring him off anesthesia. Dr. Wanted to do a tracheotomy on him. I asked if I could come up and try to calm him while he wakes up and they said that would be fine and it worked. After I sat with him a few hours he was breathing fine and released with instructions for his care. All seemed well then at 9 that evening he couldn’t breathe. I carried him towards the car to try to get him to a 24 hour vet ER but he basically suffocated in my arms in the driveway. I dropped off a happy and basically healthy best friend that morning and he was dead that evening. From the research I have done since, this is a routine procedure with a high success rate and the most likely cause of this was “suture failure” from a botched tie back. I wish I had never had this done at this facility as my best friend would still be alive today. Please reconsider this place if you are having surgery done on your pet. I feel terrible for having this done to my dog.

Let me start off by saying that my 2yo Cane Corso has ALWAYS had issues at the vet, mostly because the team always rushes to get the job done, without gaining the trust and disregarding my instructions. I’ve been in search for a reliable, professional, and understanding team for the past year and have always been disappointed. From the beginning, Dr. Adkins, Terry from the front desk, and the veterinarian technicians have done nothing but offer a superb service that has made me feel more than comfortable taking my dog here. Even if I were to relocate an hour or two away, the drive is more than worth it.Taking a stranger weary mastiff to the vet is already beyond stressful, it’s a date that you wish would just come slower because you don’t want to deal with it. Having a team waiting to judge you and disappoint you is the last thing those owners need. But having a team like Haven Lake Animal Hospital waiting to empower you makes the task a lot less stressful!

Rescue pup in extreme physical distress and family vet could not see her. Emergency clinics not open yet. Called Haven and they let me bring her right in. When we arrived, a vet tech (I wish I could remember her name as she did such a good job) came out immediately and checked her (Thankfully, she had improved since the call) to see if they should take her in right away. We waited while they could work her in. I’ve had dogs, cats, horses all my life and seen many vets— you can tell when you have one that really cares. Both the tech and Dr Holmes were just outstanding, spent a great deal of time explaining possible causes and outcomes. The follow up after was excellent. Vet called the next day and left a message, which I did not return as I was away at meetings. She called a second time. Again, thorough in explaining options and choices for care. We will definitely consider changing veterinarians for all our pets if the other docs are as competent and caring.

I brought my dog here today. He is a three year old male. Upon getting back to the room the. blonde pregnant woman began to ask me questions as to why I brought him in. I advised he had been at the emergency ER for GI issues in December 2019. Upon completing that the woman asked when he had surgery. I said I mentioned nothing of surgery. He’s never had surgery. She goes on to state that she heard me say surgery but whatever. I then asked if someone else could come into the room and assist us as I didn’t like her attitude. Prior to walking out the room like an angered toddler she proceeds to tell me I’m the one with the attitude I’ve had it from the start. Another tech comes in and is wonderful with myself and my dog. However in between the new tech and the doctor I can overhear the same woman loudly talking to someone outside the room about what occurred stating she said nothing out of the way and I had the attitude. My dog is three and never has had surgery. She was very rude and obviously not listening to what I was telling her. The other vet tech was wonderful. I brought him in today to see about the dentistry as he’s had bad breathe and other symptoms. The doctor came in and advised I feed my dog more as he’s underweight. Which I’ve never been told and emphasized it being abnormal and cause for concern. Advised I up his food intake which makes sense as we are trying to get him to gain weight. However he’s always been lean. Thankfully the vet tech was courteous enough to include a quote for the dental cleaning. Which I was genuinely considered as his normal routine vet doesn’t offer that service. However after that encounter with the one vet tech that refused to provide her name when I asked her it again as she stormed out of my room yelling at me about how I had and attitude and was the one that had it from the start, I don’t know that I will return. That was highly rude and unprofessional. I almost walked out with my dog after the incident. Especially when I overheard it loudly being discussed outside my room prior to the doctor coming in. I did nothing but state my dog has never had surgery and she proceeded to argue she heard me mention it then whatever me like a juvenile. Then tell me I had an attitude from the start and she literally maybe had assisted me not even 5 minutes. We just got into the room. The other office staff and doctor was great and professional. It still doesn’t account for the disrespect and disgust the one vet tech left with me from this visit.

Weve had a hard time finding a new vet home since relocating. After several other vets apparently misdiagnosed and incorrectly treated our 9yo Lab, each identifying a different condition btw, we were frustrated, fed up and at wits end because our dog was still in pain. Enter Haven Lake and Dr Coon, who immediately recognized that our dogs problem was something else that could easily and fairly inexpensively seen on xray. Turns out our dogs pain is easily treated and also has a good prognosis with rest. And theres an ocean retrieving future for her maybe as soon as next spring. I think the staff at this animal hospital needs some serious customer service training. The people at the front desk are rude, do not smile, have no idea that the reason they have jobs is because people come to them with their pets to have them cared for. If I heard any of my staff ever speak or behave they way they do with customers there would be serious counseling, written warnings, and who knows if that would deter this bunch. I am extremely dissatisfied with the people at this hospital. If you do not like you job find another one. People need to feel their pets are in good kind and loving hands not rude, nasty, extrememly unhappy people. I give you zero stars...

In December 2017, I brought my cat to Haven Lake because she was not eating or drinking. She had lost a lot of weight. She made a funny noise, when she tried to eat. She was there for several days. They took x-rays ( or so they said ), they charged me for them and they forced fed her. When I picked her up after a few days, they said she had several bad teeth, that could be causing a problem They wanted to do extensive tests to see if she had cancer, I had already spent over &1000 for 2 and 1/2 days of care and I said no. They sent me home with her and the tools to force feed her, along with some medicine, one being an appetite stimulant. I did this for a week. She wanted to eat, she was starving, but still could not eat. I called to make an appt to extract her a tooth. They gave me a date and I dropped her off. After 5 minutes I received a phone call from Haven Lake and they said that she was too weak to have the surgery. They had seen her twice and knew that she was too week, so why did they take her to begin with. The next day, I took her to another veterinarian, who by feeling around her neck that she had a growth, that was slowly slowly closing her esophagus and windpipe. Nothing could be done, so I had to put her to sleep. What I am so upset about is if they actually did those x-rays, they would have seen it, but mostly is that they prescribed an appetite stimulant for her, which made her extremely hungry, but she could not swallow the food. She suffered terribly for a week until I took her to another vet, who diagnosed her issue immediately. I will never, never take another pet to Haven Lake. Last but not least, the other vet said that her teeth were not the problem. Hope this helps.

Every trip to this vet had been akin to being in grade school and scolded like a child if I have to miss an appointment for work or payday. Any input from us is frowned upon. No compassion at all. I totally understand, but I want to help just a check nothing seriously so I ask the manager please, please, she give me a very cool answer. “ I can’t circle this with you all the time like this “. ~~”I won’t let my docs touch the dog without the owner here” ~~~~ ” well, manager. The vet (Dr. Francis) did not give our dog either booster shot she was due and instead wanted to sell Sentinel and the Seresto collar. Our first flag should have been that when we made the appt. after the tech asked our dogs breed (Great Pyrenees) she asked what color she was. Then when we decided that it was time to switch vets they couldnt produce our dogs records in a timely fashion saying that it would take a day or longer to find them.I would NOT recommend this vet to family and friends.2 stars rather than 1 because they were nice to my dog at least.

Their reason is that they are too busy to answer prescription requests from outside pharmacies. My pets are too important to me to trust a clearly overwhelmed clinic with their lives.
