Ok, so we were real hungry today and I didnt get the before pictures. We were celebrating a birthday and I was a bit distracted. The brisket, pulled pork and baby back ribs were all tender. The burnt ends were half and half; some were tough and others were tender but all had the crispy crust. They only served one BBQ sauce and I would have preferred more choices but it was enjoyable. The mocha ice cream pie was a favorite for all but I LOVED the pink peppermint ice cream pie over the mocha ice cream pie.Service was ok; they were a bit understaffed but the staff was very knowledgeable and kind. The Mac & cheese was very flavorful and the kids loved it. The fries were great. The backed beans were a hit. The coleslaw was meh but the rolls were phenom! Some of us made pulled pork sandwiches with the rolls. The restrooms were clean and we are open to coming back again.
Absolutely the worst ribs Ive had in my life. Possibly the worst food served to me at a restaurant ever. We ordered a whole rack of spare ribs and it came out as a stack of tan and grey boiled meat on an dull white plate. Its like someone stuck the rack in a crockpot, forgot the salt, and thought really hard about wood smoke. No flavor no nothing. I cannot express how disappointed I was. Its hard leaving a bad review like this for a locally owned place but this was over the top bad. We literally paid our $24 and left to go eat somewhere else. I hope ownership sees this and makes changes.
I had a great experience with a take out catering order I made online. I called and made one change on the order, and they were happy to accommodate me. I guess they closed that day at 4:00 p.m. that day, but there was a little sign underneath it saying, Except Kim T. Everything was ready and delicious!
Our experience at this place was not friendly. We ordered our food for 12 people and the hostess, Jackie, was very rude. We step inside and she said it would be a 45 min wait without even asking us why we were there. She said she couldnt seat us and that they have no food. We informed her that we were there to pick up a online catering order. She said it did not come through and there was no food and nothing they could do. She mentioned online order dont come through all the time and the manager was not available. She was not helpful when we were trying to figure out what we were gonna order since they had a big banquet and could accommodate us.Riley and Annie however did find our order and had it ready for us. They were very friendly and made sure we had what we ordered.
I get better customer service from a Taco Stand!I visited this place with a friend. Asked for 2 waters. My friends water had a bug in it. We let our server know. She asked for a soft drink instead. You would think he would of taken the cups of waters. Nope. He left them on our table. We ordered the pull pork sandwich. Which was cold. The Burnd ends where dry and chewy.Lets just say. The only great thing we had were the fries they dropped into the fryer..!!!What a disappointment!! Wouldnt recommend it at all!!!
I havent been here to eat in 20 years, but I was surprised at how much was basically the same as I remembered. The small changes and additions to the menu seemed nice. All in all, we will definitely eat here again when we are back in town.
We arrived at 6:15pm, waited for 45 minutes to be seated. After being seated, we asked for water and it wasn’t until we finally got a server’s attention after 40 minutes to get WATER. They close at 8pm and that was when we were finally served our food. The waiter never checked in, only to take our order, deliver our food, and deliver the check. A Friday night dinner turned into a 3 hour endeavor and with most of it spent with grumbling stomachs.
Fantastic place. But they are closing down. Joe is retiring.
The wings were great, BBQ was good. Our server, Annika was awesome. I would give 5 stars just for her great service.
Piss poor service. Asked for limes in our drinks never got any after several reminders. Over cooked brisket. Over cooked ribs. Dinner role old and stale, obviously bought at a store. Over priced for the serving amount. I’ve eaten a lot of BBQ in my life all over the states and this has to be bottom 3 for me.
Good side dishes. Very tender meats. Their sauce is great. Portions are not really big, so knocked off a half star for that. It dosent allow a half rating. Very reasonable prices. Easy to find and get to.
Gonna miss this place....lots of great memories over the years.
The food was good but our server left a lot to be desired...im pretty sure he was new but he would pass out table and not say anything...and when we tried to get his attention he would ignore use and keep walking another server did this as well. The he brought out mud pie for us and they were 3 different sizes and told us they were all the same...it was obvious they were different and then he tried to tell us that they were cut wrong when was bigger than it was supposed to be which would have been fine but they were all different sizes and he couldnt tell us which one was the right size so we didnt have anything to go by as far as what was the right size that we were supposed to get... I dont go to Joes very often and I dont like to complain because Joe is a very nice man. Itll probably be a while before I go back again not because of anything that happened last night I just dont go there very often.
Always loved this place. But it is going downhill. Last two times we have come they are out of onion chips and it appears very slow. So obviously poor preparation. Brisket was fatty, baked beans were soggy. I hope they get back to quality food. Tonight also no ribs. How can you run out of so much, so regularly? Dont want to be disappointed but its hard when you cant get the food you like.
DO NOT EAT AT JOE MORLEY’S. This used to be such a great place. We got here with around 40 minutes to eat. Plenty of time, right? Most of the menu isn’t even available, then when you do order, it takes them 5 minutes to come back and tell you something isn’t available. When we said we needed it to go because we had an appointment, the waiter seemed put out and served everyone around us, then disappeared in the back for who knows how long, I gave up after we were already late for our appointment and no food made its way out. I have never walked out of a restaurant after ordering in my life. So ridiculous and rude. Especially considering all of the food is pre-cooked. What was taking so long and why was everyone that was there after us served first? Terrible service.
My family has been going here for years. Always dependably good.
Been to Joe Morleys a handful of times. Never disappointed by the food and theyre usually pretty quick for a lunch stop. Great place with no frills about the atmosphere etc. Its all about the food and with BBQ, the sauce. Its good.
I dont love smoked foods and thats basically what Joe Morleys does so, given that information, the food is good and well-priced. If you order a side of steamed vegetables, consider asking for no salt or light salt. The blue cheese wedge salad is good but overdressed. I ordered ribs and baked beans also and they were good, but smoked, so not my favorite. My husband ordered a reuben sandwich, which also has smoked meat. His bread was soggy but the sandwich had good flavor. This isnt my favorite restaurant, but I know others that love it!
Delicious food, great staff, and the best live music!
Glad to see they had a small eaters platter for our Grandparents. Amazing BBQ pulled pork and brisket. First time in town and will definitely remember this spot.
The food was really good but the price and amount left something to be desired. I felt like they should double the food or cute the price. Honestly, Worth going to once to taste it but I probably wont order from them again.
I ate the smoked turkey salad 🥗 yummy!! Comes with a roll your choice dressing. Huge plate. They got brisket Ribs, and more.. its quite delish!!! Been around for a long time in Midvale, go check it out!!
Extremely disappointed! I have waited 5 years to try this place! I had it delivered but was missing a significant part of the order.I called them about it and they wanted me to bring them my order to prove what was missingReally?? I let them know know we were done doing business with themAlso, the food we did receive was just as disappointing as the service wasAll around bad experience
We have been coming to Joe Morleys since it opened back in the 1980s. It just not as good as it once was. They brought us brisket today that I know Joe would not have served-- it was fatty, tough and cold. When we call their attention to it, they got us more and it was better, but still not great. This is what happens with many restaurants once the owner turns it over to somebody else. They just dont have to commitment that the original owner did. Unless they get their act together, I see a slow death for what used to be one of the premier smoked brisket places in Salt Lake City. Its sad to see happening.
Sorry to see them closing again. Hope they come back sometime in the future!
Family owned business, very friendly & good food, they make their own sauce. Try the onion chips, absolutely delicious.
Staff is great. brisket tastes like it came straight outta texas.
Next time you go to joes ask for the server David, he is sweet and he is quick he makes the Texas barbecue feeling come alive.
A good place to eat. Probably the only place in the Salt Lake Valley to get pull pork bbq.
Good wings David is a great server pretty okay food other than the wings must try the mac n cheese
Good BBQ. The best things I had was the baby back ribs and Mac and Cheese.
WOW! Terrific burnt end sandwich. The meat was well cooked as evidence from the smokey taste and color of the meat. Good BBQ doesnt need sauce but Morleys BBQ sauce was really freakin good! Then this sandwich had a drizzle of ranch. Really, really good! So good I almost forgot to take a picture of it (thus the half eaten sandwich).Ive commented on another local BBQ place and Morleys, in my opinion, stomps them!In Midvale? Love good BBQ? Go to Morleys.
We have ate here many times before, and I was good. We decided to get takeout for the first time and it was worse than bad. The brisket was dry, the spare ribs seemed like dog bones, the best part of the 3 meat platter was the polish hot dog. It was the only thing that had any flavor. If I wanted to go to a got dog stand, Wienerschhnizel would have been better!
One of my favorite local places to eat! Try the jalapeno poppers and burnt ends for SURE.
Service was bad. People in the group waited 20 minutes for a glass of water after all the rest of us had already received our soda drinks. Food was worse than service. Meat was under cooked and very fatty. All in all I wish I had know in advance how awful it was going to be. I will never go back.
This was our first Time at Joes Morleys BBQ and No one was there to greet us when we got there had to wait a few minutes Then when we were sat there were dirty tables and they had no pork no chicken I Ordered beef tacos but they were Cold I just walk out Daniel said they were hot ummmm Not very poor service. Do not go There Ever !!!!!!!
Good BBQ. A little pricey but good food
Ive never had such poor customer service in a restaurant that was once a 4 Star. The Waiter was bad. There were bugs in our water first of all. The meat wasnt even chewable.Never again. I wouldnt recommend this place at all.
Most of the menu was unavailable, but still good food.
Most of the food was fantastic and worth its price. The pork spare ribs were a bit tough for my taste but had some tender pieces, May have just been a bad batch. The brisket was a new experience, cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The turkey was also one of the best smoked turkeys Ive had. I would highly recommend this place, friendly staff and overall very tasty food. Could use a little work on portion sizes though. Half a chicken is a lot and a pain to rip apart, my wife loved her first bite but the more she ate the less enjoyable it became. And my three meat platter was well actually a good portion but I expected it to be enough for leftovers. Im nit picking at this point though.
David is one wacky fella!!!!! A kinda funny guy ya know . He’s full of them kneeslappers. A real joking dude.
This place was amazing the food was too good to take a picture and the service was very clean
Such a disappointment after reading all the great reviews. My husband ordered a full rack of babyback ribs and the chicken. The ribs were so tuff he couldn’t cut them off the bone. They had terrible flavor when you did manage to rip a bit off the bone, tasted old, almost like heated up leftovers. As for the rest of our food it was good, nothing to write home about but we were hungry. Now there server was great, poor young man was flustered but was so professional. Honestly he saved the entire experience for us. He even spoke to the manager and reduced our bill for the food we didn’t eat. The restaurant is clean and absolutely no issues with seating, very nice atmosphere it’s just a shame the ribs were so bad because I’m sure we won’t go back because of that alone.
Good food great date night location
Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. Our waiter was excellent.
We like a lot hanging out. Yesterday we found this excellent place which we didn’t know before. We spent a delightful experience there with very good food and an experienced stuff and a great cuisine. We put this fine restaurant in our phone list and we shall definitely visit again soon. We warmly recommend.
Best smoked barbaque in Utah. Been eating here for over 30 years, and its consistently had tender ribs and tasty brisket.
Few places where the appetizer is way better than the meal...this is one.
Freaking delicious. Meat is heavenly, we will definitely be back.
I went here some years ago when I was younger and I remember it because the chocolate milk tasted weird (like maybe, like, salty but maybe that was the extra salt from the fries) but I got food poisoning
I ordered some BBQ from this place (my first time) 😋 it was so yummy Ill definitely keep coming to this restaurant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
It is the best kept secret for well over 30 years that I have been eating there. I am originally from Owensboro, KY which claims to be the BBQ capitol of the world. Moonlight BBQ is the greatest there and Joe rivals it!
Everything Ive tried here is delicious! We get our turkey for Thanksgiving here every year and it is the best!
The smoked turkey is good, but pretty mediocre overall.
I like to go with friends to this restaurant with my highest recommendations. I visit this restaurant often. This recommendation is always successful. The dishes they serve are great and the stuff is attentive and cooperative. always when we eat in this place we have a pleasing evening. highly recommended.
First off, the food is great. Its not the best BBQ Ive ever had, but it is definitely one of the better ones. Its not busy, easy to get to, and would be a fantastic take-out option. MUCH better than chain BBQ places like Dickies. Totally recommend calling in for some brisket and mac and cheese. You wont be disappointed. The downsides: its old and dated and stale inside. Its like the cafeteria at a retirement community in there. Very.... unnerving. Also, they dont sell beer, which is very odd for the type of place it is. Maybe its because all the servers look 16, or maybe it is a religious, personal choice of the owners, I dont know, but the geriatric qualities and the fact that I cant have a nice cold beer with a meal there has pretty much relegated it to take out only status for me. I will definitely eat their food again, but it will most certainly be at home.
I have been coming here for a long time, always had a great experience, food was always great and fairly priced. A month ago I went back after a long hiatus, what a downward spiral this place is on. They were out of most things and service was terrible. And just went back again for another shot and got a worse selection and even worse service. I cant wait to never go back. Been real guys, see you never again.
This place is by far the most expensive BBQ place Ive ever been to; it isnt worth the price. They cut the brisket with the grain instead of against. It was edible not fully pleasurable. I gave them 3 stars because the roasted potato salad was delicious, the vinegar flavor worked so well when you are eating fatty meat. The green beans were fresh and well cooked too. I dont know if I will go back for anything other than the potato salad. The service was nice and fast.
Cold food, terrible service, the worst restaurant Ive been to in Utah. This place sucks. Daniel was a horrible server.
This place is better than R&R in basically every way. Been going for 20 years and will never stop
The Mac and cheese is pretty swag.
Utterly disappoints. Lets start with the $3.00 lemonade. Horrible, it literally was a 12oz cup with half a lemon and 4 teaspoons of sugar and very little ice. Not what I expected on a hot day.The smoked pork came all saucy. It does not say it comes that way. I expected smoked meat not pork covered in ketchup. The potato salad is not made on site. Definitely straight from the food distributor. Tastes disgusting.Oh then they charged me for a side of BBQ sauce.Waste of $40.00. Do not go here if you expect good food.
If ask me its over priced with very small portions. The food is ok but I can say I wont ever go back again because I can get much tastier BBQ at a cheaper price from Famous Daves. I also get much better portions at Famous Daves so yup Ive got to say go to Daves if you want amazing BBQ and avoid this place. On a good note the staff here is pretty awesome but sadly it doesnt make up for the below average BBQ at much too high of a price.
I love this venue very much. there is a great air. The meals are tasty. the service is powerful and the stuff is professional. The cost is decent. deeply recommend.
The food tasted good, it was very well done, the staff was really nice. But the waiting time killed the mood for us, another thing was the small portion of food wow for the price the quality was good but the quantity was bad. Overall not a bad place if you want to grab a quick bite but to go out and make it dinner I would just go somewhere else.
My favorite ribs out of all the barbeque resteraunts! Best baked beans anywhere!!
The BBQ is terrible and always seems to have weird bones making up the majority of the ribs. I was left with the impression that I was going to lose some teeth when I took a bite of their tough, gnarly meat. I imagine the people that give this restaurant anything above 3 stars must have never truly eaten good BBQ in Utah or are just mouth breathers that shovel food in their gullet without really tasting it. Burp.... tastes fine. Go to Sugarhouse BBQ or Good Wood if you want delicious BBQ in Utah. Avoid Joe Morleys at all costs.
Smallest portions ever... Misleading portions and dickeys bbq is way better has more options will never eat here again. 70.00 and not even close to 4 person dinner. And the manager Megan fixed and delivered the order herself. So turned around now
Yummy bbq sauce and Mac 😋 cute place, makes you feel like you are at your country grandpas place
We have used Joe Morleys BBQ the last three years for our company picnic and they have been awesome. They are so great to work with, they are on top of everything. The food has been great, always hot and ready to go when we get there to pick it up. Our people always enjoy lunch from Joe Morleys.
Ive no beef with this place...
Joe Morley will be be a place that will win you over w/ its decor or ambience, but, who cares. The food and service more than make up for it.Even better, they do it at prices that seem like the are from the 90s.
This place has ridiculously good brisket, if you come here, dont miss out, order the brisket, you wont regret it. Im not typically a BBQ fan because so many places try and fail to deliver well with this type of food. Pretty much everything on the menu is a winner and done very well. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and not obnoxious like a lot of other BBQ joints. Classic and old school good food!
We decided to go for dinner based off the positive reviews I saw online. Something must have changed because this is the worst restaurant I have been to in a very long time. The service was awful - our server never checked on us after bringing the food. No drink refills, nothing. I had to track her down to get the check so we could leave. I could have put up with the awful service if the food was good, but it barely made it to edible. I ordered a three meat combo and was very disappointed. The sides were absolutely pathetic - potato salad that was mostly mayonnaise and five little pieces of fried onion. The barbecue - the whole reason for us going in the first place - was nothing special. One kind of sauce that was not good and some very generic meat. The portions of BBQ were decent, which is the best I can say about the whole experience. We will not be back. Dont waste your time with this place - your local Wallabys or Dickies is much, much better.
We had Joe Morley’s cater for our teachers before Back to School Night and it really is the best! The brisket was fabulous and tender and you can’t go wrong with their sides and BBQ sauce either. It’s been a favorite for years and never disappoints. Thanks Joe Morley’s for delivering the best meal for our hard working and hungry teachers!
Excellent food and service. We had the brisket, burnt ends, onion chips, potato salad, wedge salad, and roll. Everything was delicious. I ate every bite, and did not regret a thing!
The people are nice, the service is good, it just didnt taste very good to me. Dont let my review keep you from trying it though. Others I have spoken to really enjoy this place.
Ive been coming to this place since inception...or close to it. I especially love the barbecue sauce. I know that other places offer a variety of sauces, but this one sauce is just right.Ive enjoyed most of the stuff on the menu. I really enjoy the root beer and I always save room for the mud pie (mocha). Tasty!
Great food and friendly service is a combination worthy of high praise.
I went for a company Christmas party and we had about 24 people in attendance. There were only two staff serving our table and it had to be the first night for one of them. She wasnt able to answer basic questions about the menu, got a couple orders wrong, forgot items, was slow getting food brought out, and didnt remember what entrees people ordered. The other half of our group was already done with their main courses by the time we got ours. Additionally ALL the food was COLD! I ordered a soup (that was a bowl when I ordered a cup) that I sent back because it was cold and she brought it back (10 minutes later) with NO SPOON. My ribs were mostly made of fat and cold, the sausage appeared to be one of those precooked kinds and cold. The brisket tasted good but again...it was cold. The bbq sauce they brought us was warmer than the meat.Overall, this was a very underwhelming and disappointing experience.
I have eaten here for 27 years now. Best smoked beef brisket and baked beans in Utah!!! Smoked Chicken, Ribs,Sausage and Pork are very good as well. Coleslaw and potato salad are quite good. Rolls are very low end quality not a single person out of the 30 plus people care for the rolls. Try the brisket with their onions and bbq per bite oh my goodness. So good. The mud pie is delicious. I Love me some Joe Morleys
We ordered family style—beef brisket and ribs—for three adults, one child who eats like an adult, and one child. We also ordered two baskets of fries, which proved to be too many for our group.Delicious food. Home-style atmosphere. A local business.
This restaurant never disappoints. We were well served and well fed. Our waiter had people in other rooms and was given our group in the back room by ourselves. We got our food and totally enjoyed being able to talk and eat and enjoy everything. Thanks - well come again.
Ordered food online for a birthday dinner. Printed out confirmation email and was scheduled for pickup at 5:30. Showed up and nothing was ready, they didn’t even have the order in their system. Waited an extra 30 mins for them to pack up the food. Left at 6:30. Advice would be to call before hand if you place an online order to verify they have it. Was offered extra roles and meat as a olive branch, not impressed.Update: just got the food home and realized they didn’t put the BBQ sauce in the bag either. What a joke of an experience.
This place does not get a whole lot of business but their food is so delicious. Living next door allows me to smell the meat they have begun smoking over night that makes me crave barbeque. Not only that, but it tastes so good as well. They also make sure to cater to non-meat eaters as well so its definitely a bonus.
I have been ordering from Joe Morleys BBQ for a few years now at work. They have GREAT food and customer service! Every year we do a little summer social at work and meet at different parks around the county, Joe Morleys has delivered at all the parks without any problems. We will continue to go back!
Great BBQ service is great. Food is amazing. Always a great place to go.
I LOVE this place. The food is absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere is iconic. (90s chic... If thats even a thing lol) But really, I love this place and highly recommend that you take the time to stop in for an amazing meal. And just as a heads up, all of their meats are delicious. Take your pick, youll love it.
Joe Morleys is a great place to eat! I had it for the first time over 20 years ago and many times since and never been disappointed. The quality has been maintained thought the years. Also a good place to see the Salty Dinner Theater.
We ate here before the dinner rush, so seating was plentiful. I had the BBQ brisket sandwich, and I had it chopped which made it easy to eat. The barbeque sauce is excellent, and the French fries that came with the meal were hot and crispy.
I heard good things and I wanted to try it. I came here with three friends for dinner. Chicken was dryer than hell. The “side” of onion rings was one onion sliced into four parts and skewered on a tooth pick. Turkey was crumbling apart like dust. All of us hated it.
You can tell when you walk in that the locals know this is a well kept secret - on a weeknight there was a decent crowd but we were seated within minutes. The staff was very attentive and helpful, and offered some good recommendations. Our waitress was top notch. Good sized portions, plenty of extra sauce that came with the meal, And we walked out of there with a bill for 25 bucks that included a healthy tip. No drinks. I would recommend this place, especially if you dont want to go to a chain.
