Quality Okinawa training in one of the oldest Karate styles known. Indoor and outdoor spaces that are regularly used. All age friendly. My son and I train together here and have been happy with the instruction for over a year now.

Very creepy vibe and atmosphere here. Definitely do not want my child around these folks any longer. Way too touchy feeley in my opinion and too expensive for the instruction offered. They are also very quick to criticize and berate the slower students. Bottom line: Not professional. Ive found a much better Dojo for my child.

Our children have been going to this Dojo for over three years. It is a great family Karate Dojo for those looking to develop in the Okinawan style of Karate. I have NEVER felt our children were in any way touched inappropriately as a previous reviewer mentioned. It is a family inclusive learning environment which our family appreciates and enjoys. If you are looking for a Okinawan Style Dojo talk to the Sensei and audit a couple classes. We feel is is a good value for the number of sessions attended per week.

I have trained at the Okinawan Karate Dojo for the last four years. The instructors are great and have become like family to me. I remember visiting the school as a child and found myself coming back to practice in earnest in my mid 20s. They have done this for a very long time and have a vast knowledge of the application of karate with a focus on its traditions. The style of karate is very traditional but the method of teaching is more modern. It isnt an aggressive school and the people come together and learn from each other. It baffles me when I read the negative review that was posted about this dojo. Im also inclined to agree that the person who wrote it visited a different school. Never have I once seen anyone be critical of a student, unless we are talking about basic corrections. That is how you learn karate. Ive never seen the instructors berate ANYONE; particularly one who is new. They have a great deal of patience and understand people learn at different speeds. They are actually more modest and patient than most instructors. The only other guess I have would be the reviewer is extremely protective and cannot handle someone giving corrections to their child. People do not walk into a dojo as a black belt and people will stumble many times along the way (I still do). That requires being told that your are doing something incorrect and receiving a correction.Their prices are modest and cheaper compared to many schools and they offer discounts to people who sign up for extended lengths of time. That for practicing in a dojo and not a gym or church. For my instructors, it isnt about the money; Theyre in it for the propagation of the art. Ive spoken to them many times about this and they have shared that it is their goal to make sure the art will continue to grow and flourish in the future. I honestly dont know where the touchy feeley comment came from. The dojo is minimal contact in the first place. The only times there are contact are when students do pre-arranged exercises. If the instructors make any contact at all; itll to be to nudge someones foot in the right place or shifting their fist and that is only if the student is having a difficult time on their own. It was disappointing to read that review because I know my teachers well and their philosophy of karate.I encourage readers of this page to disregard the negative review and check out the dojo for themselves to see what it is about. It is a great place for children to learn by instructors who actually care about what they are doing. They dont do a pay to play belt progression system like Ive seen in other schools. You actually feel as though youve accomplished something and its rewarding to see how far youve come as the months or years go by. If youre looking for a dojo for your child, this school focuses on the traditional aspects of karate in a minimal contact setting where your child will be safe. They have classes separated by age groups (adults and children) so your child will be grouped with others around the same age. Karate can be a life changing experience and I hope that if anyone has ever been curious, to just come check it out and see if it for you.

I have trained here since 2007. This school is the real deal and is a great choice for anyone wanting to train in traditional Okinawan karate. This school and style has a lot of history behind it and promotes karate as an art, not a sport. If you are looking to learn old school, traditional karate, the way it was taught before it became commercialized, you need to check out this dojo.

The kinder gentler karate school. Family karate, age 7 and up but we have adult classes too. Morning, afternoon and evening. Special little dragon progam twice a week. We have been here since 1992. I am the original owner and the head hancho. They call me Sensei Judy!
