I came in with the idea I needed to replace an alternator in my Volvo XC90. I had it tested elsewhere TWICE. I brought it in to Dowdys and they ran their diagnostic and found that there was nothing wrong with it. Must have been a bad battery (which I had replaced before the second test that showed my diodes were bad). Nutshell: They double checked everything and showed me the results of their tests. Car drives just fine and has since I drove it out of the shop. The Dowdys team members I dealt with were all very professional yet easy to talk to, and very informative (I came in knowing I also had other non-emergency items to fix and got quotes for all of them). While I was in there, I witnessed them showing other customers exceptional care and taking efforts to minimize costs for those they could. I took my 69 Chevy Nova to Dowdys in Boise for service when I was an 18 year old. It was nice to have a reliable car service for an old vehicle at a young age - female at that!Here at 41, I was so excited to have a branch open near our home. It is so nice to be able to drop off a vehicle for service and I can walk to/from home. They recently upgrade their service to include a report emailed to you. I have taken all of my vehicles to them since this location opened and I am very satisfied. Its so great to have straightforward, honest repair work at a fair price. As much as I do not want to have car troubles, I feel good knowing we have a reliable company just down the road.

These folks are great! They are honest and upfront. They let me know of a couple things that may need my attention shortly, even tires which they do not service, and what not to worry about. They do not push you to get anything done you dont need and they only do as you request. We had been on the road all day and had a head light bulb go out. We called Dowdys and they said they had a bulb and would be happy to replace it for us. Got there after 5 p.m. and Dan got right on it. He was just wonderful, very helpful, very personable! We sure do appreciate what they did.

Daughter took car in for CV AND VALVE COVER GASKET. WAS QUOTED OVER $ 800.00. SHE WENT AHEAD WITH REPAIR . WENT TO PICK UP CAR NEXT DAY AND DROVE TO WORK .UPON ARRIVING AT WORK FRONT WHEEL WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND WOBBLING. CALLED TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. HE STATED THAT THEY INSTALLED WRONG AXLE THIS MODEL HAS LONG AND SHORT. WHEN CONFRONTED THEY SAID THEY DIDNT CHANGE THE AXLE ONLY THE BOOT. SO. IN OTHER WORDS THEY LIED. BOOT AND VALVE COVER GASKET 800. MY MECHANIC SAID WRONG PART WAS BRAND NEW JUST THE SHORT INSTEAD OF THE LONGER ONERIPPED OFF A GIRL WHO DIDNT KNOW BETTER..

Bill and Mike took care of what could have been a $571 maintaince bill on my German made car. This would have been the bill at the dealership where I bought the car new. They are certified mechanics who quoted me $270 for the same service. I went to pick up my car all excited to pay the $270 bill. I had absolutely no idea they mailed out coupons for a special deal on this service. I never noticed one in my mail. They told me about that special and ended up charging me $138 for what would have been $571! I checked out the job they did and it was perfect! I will never go anywhere else but Dowdys from this point on for my car needs.Jock Summers

Great experience! Took my diesel in for a water pump replacement and they had it done by the end of the day. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and quoted a fair price that they stuck too. I came here looking for a little better quality than I’ve had with quick lube places. My car was leaking oil and they were very detailed when exploring the cause. They took the time to explain my options, and took pictures so I could see what was going on. They were very well priced and didn’t try to sell me on any extras. I will definitely be going there from now on.

At any time you can ask the front desk for a quote on any service to your vehicle and theyll happily print you an itemized receipt of what they expect to do to your vehicle.

Diagnosed the issue as a service that you do not cover. Charged $69.99 anyways. Resulted in driving to another shop, eventually made it to another mechanic shop that was able to fix the issue. Not sure why you would charge and send away. If it does not fall within your scope that should be an exception and caught before the diagnosis. I was told that it was cheaper to go somewhere else but the drive to another location was not a good or safe experience. I actually stopped by a similar shop to yours on the way and they explained based on the symptoms that it was not something they could fix as well but they did not charge the fee. Luckily I made it to another shop and they were able to fix the car at their shop.

Vehicle owners beware!I am only giving one star because I have to but I will say they are nice guys but beyond that I am NOT impressed!Took my truck in for diagnostics after it started running pretty rough. They hooked up their computer and read the codes they came to the conclusion that it needed a new engine without any further investigation as to why the codes were being thrown. They were going to charge me $9700 for a new engine that I didn’t need!!!I got a second opinion from a certified ford mechanic and it turns out all that happened was a solenoid was stuck open and needed to be reset. It now runs like the day I brought it home and only took 5 minutes to fix. Which also should have been found and covered by Dowdy’s 1 hour diagnostic “service”.Don’t be a victim and at the very least get a second opinion.

I came in to visit these guys because I have a 2015 BMW which was leaking oil. They did a thorough inspection of the vehicle and found the source of leaking, which was the head gasket. They advised me that they thought it might be covered under my certified preowned warranty, and advise that I contact BMW first before they did any work. As it turned out the BMW certified warranty does cover a leaking head gasket and I am currently having BMW perform the work. These guys ROCK! Honest and I truly trust them.

These guys are awesome. They are straight up and honest about what needs done and what doesnt and they dont charge an arm and a leg. Recently had some work done by them and Im very impressed. I stopped in a while back to talk to them about replacing a catalytic converter and was told yes, they could do it but if able to, I would be better off taking it to another (unaffiliated shop) to save money and still get reliable work done. Not many places are like that.

I can honestly say that Dowdys is one of the best auto shops in Idaho. They have the best prices and are (in my opinion) the most honest. They could have tried to upsell me on a lot of problems I was having with my Nissan Titan and they never once did that. I will never go anywhere else for any of my auto needs. Harrison, and his team are amazing. I recently snapped a spark plug in 2013 Ford Explore. Instead of automatically telling me the engine was going to have to be removed which would have cost around $2,700.00. Instead of doing that Harrison and his team did not give up and after a couple of days were able to remove the spark plug which was in a the most inaccessible spots and latterly had to create a tool to get it out. I bring every vehicle I own to them, because theyre good people, honest, and very helpful.

I have now taken my car to this location twice and have never been disappointed with the service I received. These guys are honest and very thorough. Outstanding performance by Dowdys. Wish they had shop near me. Short story - returning from Logan Utah to Seattle our Lexus RX350 broke down northwest of Ontario. Towed to Ontario Dowdys and Brooke was awesome, car was diagnosed with blown head gasket, suggested have the Meridain location preform the work. Very nervous about an unknown shop to me preforming such major and expensive work. Picked up the car on Friday. Amazed how well the engine sounded. A knock that I had noticed for years was now gone, drove home watching the controls all the way and temperature needle went to half way point and did not deviate at all during entire trip. Engine sound awesome and I am very impressed and would trust Dowdys on any and all of my vehicles. Great job everyone at Dowdys and thanks for a job well done. Even though they were really busy got it done fairly quickly and the young man at the front desk are always so friendly. The coffee is good too! Some Splenda for the coffee would be nice.

When I moved here for a new position my car quit working. It was a 2005 Hyundai Elentra with 200,000 miles on it. They didn’t make me feel like a loser for driving old car, in fact they found things that didn’t have to be replaced while redoing electrical wiring that rodents had chewed through saving me money.My experience had made me a loyal customer and now I have 2019 Buick Enclave that I take to them for oil changes and will have them do service work as needed.I have found everyone that I come in contact with to be very friendly and smiling when being greeted.Keep up the good work.

Cheaper than others in the area, and instead of trying to upsell oil types, they check to see what the recommended oil is for the specific engine. Friendly staff, good service, clean enviroment. The only drawback is that we had to schedule several days out because they were booked up, but it worked fine for our schedule. Would definitely recommend.

I had a great experience here. The men who helped me were very friendly, super aware of the fact that I was waiting for my car with two little kids (they had crayons and coloring pages, Netflix for my son, and even brought him a little brand new Hotwheels car), and professional.
