I always wanted a black belt in rex kwondo.
I have attending for over 3 years now. The instructors are knowledgeable, respectful, and helpful. They balance informal and formal instruction with equal measure. It has been a wonderful experience whether I am working one-on-one, working within a group, or sparing, everyone there is great. I could not have a picked a better system or a better school. I look forward to many more years with my martial arts family. I love and appreciate all of you.
Awesome place!!! My daughters confidence has soared! She has been able to stand up to bullies at school. She absolutely loves going. Doc and Jack are dedicated to teaching and care about the physical, emotional and mental health of their kids. The best thing I did to help my daughter was bring her here!
I started with them at the beginning of 2015 and had a health concern to deal with in addition to loss of self-confidence and strength along with increased weight. In the time I have studied there, I have enjoyed an incredible decline to the health issue with improved flexibility and strength. I have stabilized and reduced some weight having started about 170 and now because no 160.The workouts can be brutal, but they are fun and the group of people accepted in addition to the instructors are top notch. The best advice going in: know the outcomes you are looking for, communicate them clearly, and evaluate them regularly. The rest - practice, participation, and perspiration, are up to you.
I was looking for a place to train. I called and made an appointment to talk to the head instructor. He asked about my expectations and as I tried to answer he kept interrupting and telling me how that didnt answer his question or the new question he just asked. I told him very personal details about my struggles as a result of my service in the US military. He proceeded to insult me with comments about my life and how I couldnt answer his questions quickly enough when I was halfway into answering the first one. I showed this man common decently the entire time. He repeated at least 5 times, This is a private school. Why should we accept you? The tone of his voice and his body language indicated to me he thought I was beneath him as he continued to interrupt me as I answered. These people are abusive. I am glad I found out about this upfront before I gave them any money.
Doc is my instructor and I am learning so much! My self-esteem has really gotten better since starting here. This place is like my second home and the people are my family. I am so glad I decided to join!
As a beginner, I made lots of mistakes with right postures, positioning and punches, but Jack and Doc and the rest of the staff were very patient, and movitating when needed.BEST Money I ever spent. After 4 lessons...I had a whole routine down...that just takes time to practice and master. They mix in some advanced techniques occasionally...to see how advanced you can go...to make it to the Elite...Black Belt level.Great stuff!
Excellent place to learn martial arts. Instructors know what they are doing, and they make enjoyable classes. Open daily with a perfect schedule and good attitude of all. :)
Terrible place run by a very shady instructor owner and son. Both are full of hype, phony claims and.......yes! they can even can show you how he has not just one but 3 or 4 different 10th degree black belts! Oh, and he also claims to have PhD in medicine too. Right!!! This is a scam, stay away.Happened on to this place by accident, but got shut of it quickly. They like to knock and push their students around too, trying to show how tough they are. Wanted to put these two bullying jerks on the floor, but that would have been just too easy! Sometimes its smarter to just walk away. Which I did. Quickly, before I might have had to have a word or two.Youll do well to avoid and stay away from this place too!
Best karate school in town my kids have gained self confidence and have learned self defence among other things that I didnt think they would learn at such a young age. Thank you master jack for you dedication and patience
Fantastic dojo! These guys really know what theyre doing and how to teach it. Never left without having learned something new. Full of great people who practice real, effective martial arts. Five stars :)
I love this place. My daughter loves Jack and Doc.
Listen hereIve trained and known other trainers other placesThis place is worth the money, worth the effort and more than worth the timePeople that say they dont dig this place, its likely the values that are shared in the dojo, were not the same as theirs, or they werent interested in putting in 100% effort like the trainers promise you theyd always give you.I never leave disappointed, I never leave in a bad mood. This dojo is becoming my new home, and the people in it a family.Seriously, Dont miss the chance to be a part of it
Just amazing. So happy the kids are getting a chance to learn.
This dojo is awesome! Super legit and worth every cent. The La Tourettes are true masters, and it is an honor to receive their training, wisdom, and vast knowledge of the martial arts.
I have studied multiple disciplines over the years and without a doubt this dojo is by far the most dedicated professional environment that I have trained in The masters are both professional and personal and take a dedicated interest in ensuring that all of the training is up to standard and personalized.
Ive been going here for almost two years now and I have yo say I truly appreciate and value all the teachings I have received from Master Jack Latourette and Doc, you always get a great workout and come away from your private lessons with lots of master keys and secrets, I have rheumatoid arthritis and since joining this Dojo I am able to do things that o thought I would never be able to do with my body, I would highly recommend it to anyone, it is a hidden gem in southern Oregon!
A great place to train if come with an open mind. I have only been training at this Dojo for about a month but so far it has been one of the best decisions of my life. Doctor John La Tourette and his son Master Jack are beyond knowledgeable about all the techniques they teach. They can fully back up all the teachings, fighting techniques, and lessons they teach their students. I personally think coming here is beginning to make me a better person and martial arts student. I will say the Dojo may not be for everyone but if you put in the work and come with an open mind you will learn so much. The La Tourettes and the other students are so welcoming and open to new people. I would highly recommend this place to other people who are serious about martial arts.
I will always hold my experience here at the highest regard. Simply amazing and life changing. An honor.Update from June 29, 2015:Ten years ago I lived in Grants Pass and after checking out different schools in the area I decided to drive an hour to train at Oregon MMA. The self defense and MMA taught at the school was easily the best I could find. Since that time I have moved out of the area and I have completed some training at other schools. I recently took the opportunity to take a flight out to train with Master Jack for some private lessons. My experience was easily worth the cost of the flight and private lesson. What you will learn at this school you will not find anywhere else (it was insane). Doc and Master Jacks dojo is one of a kind. If you are interested in checking out a martial art or self defense you must check out this school. It might not be the right fit for you because of the intense, realistic environment. However, when you check it out you will realize a standard through which to evaluate all other martial arts and instructors.
Doc an Jack are amazing senseis so glad to be their student and so are the kids. I plan to be a student for many many years
This dojo has been a constant source of positivity and support. Ive come to think of Jack and Doc as part of my family. My quality of life has skyrocketed in part because of the skills (not all kung fu related) Ive learned and honed here. The confidence instilled in me has allowed me to come out of my shell. Im going tomorrow morning and I cant wait!
This is one of the most serious gyms around here in the valley, youre not gonna find better instructors around town. These are people who are willing to go the extra mile to make you into the best fighter you can be.
At the dojo Ive been learning new technicsIs a great place,mi son and i we go there together is fun,we learn a lot from the doc John and Jack they are a great people, and funny lolThey treat us like a familia A.....
I was a student 20 years ago when they were in a different building. I loved the place and when I moved I felt a gap in my life. I searched for another dojo and instructors to fill the spot. Everything fell short. I moved back to Medford and on the second day I was in looking to get lessons. The instructors are like no others. Being accepted as a student here is a great honor to me. Dr. John La Tourrette is a master instructor. My sensei, mentor, and role model. Its a honor to be part of his kenpo family. The family is large. There are young and old. You will be amazed at the lessons being learned inside the dojo.
This place is a joke. The person who owns this place has been proven to be a fraud on various martial arts forums. I wish I had known that before I had gone here for the first three free private sessions. Well to be honest I stopped going after the first one since Id seen this movie before. Not too long ago I was looking for a place to study jujitsu after coming home from Portland. Id been doing BJJ and Aikido at my college and thought itd be fun to not lose anything over the summer and work more on self defense techniques. While at the yellow submarine car wash my mother and I saw this school next door. My mother wanted me to try it out. I wasnt sure since when is tried to learn more about it online there was nothing on its website about its pedigree. After going there I quickly found out why.On the introductory day the instructor, who is not the owner, hits me repeatedly in the neck to demonstrate its killing effectiveness? Well first of all the idea of a guaranteed one hit knockout is a myth. If your instructor preaches it as a self defense tactic then you need to find a new instructor. More importantly if a technique is so dangerous it can cause a standing blackout as he told me, why would you do it to someone who is brand new to the school? You have no idea about who they are or what their background is and that is a liability, even if you were trying to teach someone good techniques instead of complete garbage.Next off the place is filthy. I do not think that they clean it. There is an odd tension in the room, it is just a room with some curtains acting as partitions, and most of the students there seem to be constantly afraid. Even when I just tried to say hello to one of them and shake hands they looked at me as though they had no idea what to do or expect. He looked as if he wasnt sure what his instructor would tell him and was very timid. On top of this the place is a belt factory. Kids who start off at age 3 get promoted to red belt within two years. Even my mother who does not do martial arts was surprised at the speed of promotion. If a lay person is shocked by promotion speed then that is a clue about the credibility of the school. I dont know what these kids are learning but the people in charge dont care if theyre still being paid. The real astounding thing is that the owner, not the instructor, tried to convince me that I was mentally disabled or intellectually slow. Really? Its not bad enough that this school is garbage and its programs are a complete joke but now they are trying to get money out of you this way as well? Now keep in mind that he said this despite the fact that I spoke better English than he did and was speaking with a deeper vocabulary. This is just too much. There is nothing worse than a snake oil salesman but this owner goes beyond that. This is the McDojo to top all McDojos. I loved how the instructor kept trying to justify the owners comments. He knows what hes taking about because he has a PhD. in psychiatry. I can say, without a doubt, that this was a bold faced lie. The best part is he then tried to justify the owners credibility because he has a picture of him posing with Ed Parker and that the guy is featured in a magazine.I dont know about you but thats not much proof. Where are the other members of the industry who can vouch for him? Where are the other professionals who stand behind his statements? Who else can certify his credibility? No one. Because anyone who can stays as far away from this place as possible. What it comes down to is that as a consumer and prospective student you need to do your own research. Look at a martial arts instructors website, if they have one, and see if you can fact check their claims. If those claims seem far off the reservation then you need to be more critical. My advice is forget this academy as it is junk. There are certainly good schools in the Medford area but this is far from it.
Medford Oregon Kung Fu and Jiu Jitsu is AMAZING!My life was transformed after training with Master John La Tourrette and Master Jack La Tourrette. If you want to learn about loyalty, integrity, honor, gain strength and self discipline as well as the most effective techniques in Martial Arts and Self Defense,THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!Before I became die-hard committed student, I thought I was strong, I thought I could fight, I thought I was smart.... Now I have been mentored by the BEST and that changed everything. Now I KNOW what my true capabilities are and they keep getting better and better.I dont know of any where else on this earth that you can get the level of training of mind and body that they have to offer.
Learn from the masters
