Its A very nice, very well run gym. It offers a little something for everyone and for me there has never been any feelings of judgment. The place is kept incredibly clean and the staff is always courteous and knowledgeable. I spend most of my time in the pool and never have had any wait time on getting a swimming lane.They offer a ton of different classes on all different days and times of the week to help accommodate any schedule. I highly recommend this gym.

I like this place a lot... but why are people allowed to wear their filthy shoes into the sauna?? Imagine the stuff these people are tracking all over the seats and even walls in some cases. Come on...

I really enjoy all of the water exercise classes held in the morning, however I will be even more excited when the jets are working in the hot tub

Used to be great coming here, not so much now. Yes its clean, and Im fine with social distancing, but some of its members are very rude toward other members like myself even during class. Went to report it and possibly cancel my membership at the front desk but associate didnt acknowledge me in the slightest nor did any other associate nearby.Im already disturbed that Im paying full price for facilities I cant use(sauna, hottub, etc) and trying to get gym time in around my schedule. Im a grown 36 year old woman and to be spoken to and judged by other grown adult members like Im 10 years old is completely unnecessary and unnerving.

This is the best gym that Ive ever been to! All of the other positive reviews are true, theres not a whole lot that I can add. They had to temporarily cut hours because of you know why but they have recently extended the hours and they are doing a great job of keeping everyone safe without making it impossible to get in a full workout. They are doing a super job of balancing safety and convenience. The staff is very professional and they work hard cleaning up and keeping everything safe for the members. I sure do wish, however, that they would put the tables or at least a few tables back in the cafe area. One thing I loved about American Family Fitness that is no more is the ability to check my email and catch up on work using the Wi-Fi after working out.

Used to have a 5 star review but since there hours are so limited right now I can’t justify giving them a 5 star rating. Why should we pay full price when hours and services are limited? Even Golds and other gyms are open later than am fam. I understand 24 hours probably isn’t possible right now but at least stay open till 12am on weekdays and 7-8 on weekends.

I like how accommodating and friendly the staff is. The facility is also clean and there are many different activities for different focus areas. The only thing I wish there were more of are aquatic classes throughout the day. I havent been in a while due to an injury and am ready to get back into it...but the times for the aquatic classes are pretty spread out and not consistent. I understand its more than likely à scheduling issue and is not a reflection on the facility.

Everything about this place is top-notch. There are so many available classes including Zoomba, Fight, Yoga, Cycling and so much more. The equipment is amazing with circuits and free weights. I see seniors in great shape working out on a regular basis. The pool is perfect and the hot tub, so relaxing. The sauna is hot and wonderful. The staff is so cheerful. They always remember my name and greet me when I walk in the door!!! I LOVE American Family Mechanicsville!

I find American Family Fitness Gym to be clean, with just the right amount of equipment to make my exercise routine a pleasure. I particularly like the convenient operating hours.

Just joined a few weeks ago. So far it has been great. My son loves the Kids Zone. Staff has been very friendly and helpful. Yoga classes have been great and I cant wait to try other types of classes.

I am still in my first week of my membership but so far I think this was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to help. The facility is clean and I love the music playing throughout. I cant wait to try out everything American Family Fitness has to offer!

I love that American Family has morning classes I can attend before work. They keep me challenged and motivated. Lil at the Mechanicsville location is a great instructor, and has really challenged me in the new morning Power class!

Clean, friendly, and overall great. The Swift Creek location is a little better because of the water slides and play area for the kids at the pool but still a good location

Great gym. Plenty of equipment so that heavy crowd times dont keep you from being able to work out at all (thought he missing star is from only having two power racks which stay busy). It is expensive compared to modern offerings like Crunch and Planet Fitness, but you are getting access to a lot for your money, including excellent child care.

My home location is Midlothian however, I do frequent several of the other locations. I took the Cycle 6:30pm Ride Class this evening w/Heather M. I was very impressed w/her calm yet motivating tone. Her dialogue & coaching was encouraging & achievable while still pushing yourself to a challenge. Great instructor 👍🏼

The facility has pretty much everything you would need. They need to do a better job of keeping up with new technology and keeping what they do have in tip-top shape. It does seem like they’re preparing to invest.

The facility is a clean, bright, modern gym with great hours mostly 24 hours. The price is moderate and includes everything. The classes and studios are decorated nicely providing everything you need. I especially love the hot yoga studio!! My kids enjoy all of the kids activities and now that theres Summer Camps they go all the time. Sometime we just enjoy our day at the pool while my hubby plays basketball. No matter theres people walking around offering assistance and its just an upbeat atmosphere!

I love everyone who works in the kid zone. They are so nice to my kids and my kids have fun while I work out. I really enjoy using the pool. I also live that the cardio deck is big enough that Ive never felt crowded.

My experience has been positive so far. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.I mainly work in the pool with my trainer, but the gym area seems to be well equipped. I agree with some of the others that the hot tub could be larger and deeper. My only complaint so far is that when Im done in the pool and go into the locker room to change, its so cold.

Visiting out of town, family referred me to this place. This gym is fantastic! Great atmosphere, good equipment, and amenities. I recommend especially for hardcore gym/fitness enthusiasts.

Sucks with the distancing guidelines. Machines are off limits even with no one 12 or more feet away.

This facility is kept clean and has most of what youll need. However, its small, dim, and definitely one of the more dated American Family locations. I frequent the (much newer) VCC location and the two gyms dont even look like they belong to the same organization. Some of the equipment is dated, the ceiling is covered in rust and grime, the basketball court has about half the light it should have... All in all, a fine place to get a workout in, Im just glad this isnt the gym I have to go to regularly.

My husband attempted to cancel his membership and was told by management that it would not be possible due to the membership being an annual contract. He was told he would have to continue to pay until the end of his contract, which was several months away, even though he had not been to the gym for a few months already. He was never informed it was an annual contract when he signed up. I just happened to look online and saw there is actually an online cancellation form that allows someone to cancel with 30 days notice, which I looked for because this month was the first month of the new contract year and they charged him double his normal rate instead of charging nothing (since he asked to cancel months ago...). This is very frustrating, as we have a family account which is expensive but I am now 7 months pregnant so I havent been in the last 4 months either. It literally was a waste of $100 every month that could have gone to saving for our daughter.

Great equipment, however the staff do not know what is going on. We were lucky and able to cancel our membership during our 30 day trial. An instructor never called me back as promised.

American Family Fitness in Mechanicsville is a great place to go. They have so many different classes you can take and the trainers and instructors and the whole entire staff are so friendly and very helpful. I have been going for almost 4 years and this is the best gym I have ever been to in my life. I consider this one of my happy places. I have been working with a personal trainer for over 3 years now Amy Elizabeth Wilson and she is fantastic. A few of the other trainers there I have fallen in love with too Danielle Roberts, Crystal Smith, Lill Harris and Cheryl Hinks to name a few. So if you are looking for a very friendly place to go this is the place.

This place is great! The staff is friendly, and the equipment is nice. The kid zone is awesome! My children love it and that keeps me motivated to keep coming back.

I like the fact that you still honor my platinum membership that I purchased 20 years ago; I could never get a deal like that anywhere today.I like the fact that you have a place for my children to stay when I am there (or when they were younger 15-20 years ago). I like the different type of exercising activities and equipment available to me (at the Mechanicsville location and newer facilities). You seem to update them every so often, which is nice.I like the fact that you are local -- two miles from my home. I like your hours of operation. 24 hours except Friday and Saturday nights.All personnel are pleasant. I like it when they wish me a good day or good evening when I leave. I like the AFF phone ap that I can use to sign in.You dont close facilities for employee Christmas parties any more (as far as I know). You did that years ago, and I thought that was very inconvenient for members.Your air duct diffusers are dirty in Mechanicsville, and they should be cleaned (not the swimming pool area). This may help with the stuffy, hot air on the second floor. You could use more fans up there.You dont do member appreciation days any more; I used to like those. In sum, I like that you give me a nice, clean, convenient way to exercise close to home. The exercise makes me feel good, I can stay healthier, and hopefully I can live longer.

Excellent facilities, employees are friendly and helpful, wonderful place for all members of the family. My kids love it. Highly recommended.

Love that the gym is very open and never waiting to get on a machine. The sign outside says 24 hours which is not true! There need to take it down. Otherwise good gym!

Horrible. My monthly payment is suppose to be $40, and today is first of the month so I am definitely not late paying for it and was charged $70 this morning. I am not very happy with American Family Fitness!

I strongly dislike American Family Fitness. Sure, they have a lot of great equipment, but it is always filled to the brim with people. The worst part is the contract (I cant remember if it was one or two years) and the high, high prices. After my contract was up, I called to cancel and they told me I was good though the end of the month. Six months later I receive a letter from collections staying I owe for six months of membership that I didnt even use because I called to cancel. I had to go in to talk to a manager in his office about ending my membership and still had to pay for six months. Do not join this gym! They lied and schemed for my money.

Definitely is a gym.My biggest complaint is its not at my house. Would like to pretend thats the reason I dont go more often.

I joined Amfam primarily for the pool. It has 4 lap lanes which are 25 yards long with two attached areas used for aquatics classes. In addition, it also has a large hot tub and sauna all within the pool area.

I think they should redo the hot tub to make it more spacious or at least give it some more depth

I like that it is open 24 hours, which is convienent for me and the job that I have where I usually work doubles for most of the day and night. I also like that a gym membership does not limit you to one certain gym, you could go to any gym, which was the best thing to do as I joined with a friend who lives in Chester, while I live in Ashland, there are gyms in both of our towns and mechanicsville is in between both of us for when we want to meet up and work out. The general athestic is very nice and I really enjoy the lounge area where you can rest and get a protein shake or drink and take a break. The locker room and girls bathroom has always been very clean every time I’ve been there and it was very large and spacious which I liked a lot. There is always one girl at the front desk who checks me in since I’ve started and she’s always been so honest and helpful with everything equipment wise and in general, which was what brought me to get a gym membership the same day I came in to tour the gym.

Equipment crowded on the floor. Too close. You can touch the person next to you. No personal space. When I can smell the person next to me, its too close.

We recently moved to this area and orginally joined Amfamfit in Fredericksburg. Looking at the equipment the two locations are night and day. The floorplan doesnt flow for some reason. For those with limited mobility there are some cardio machines along the walls downstairs. If you have a chronic condition the last thing you want to feel like is nobody puts baby in a corner. If you want to feel civilized you must hike the stairs because an elevator is not an option. I completely understand this is a health club but some people are experiencing a healthier life because they move more. Diversity in our world today involves inclusion of differences on a larger scale.
