Dorn’s completely repainted my red Mercedes 2 door convertible because of a paint defect caused by the manufacturer. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my car. It looks better than it did brand new in the Mercedes show room!! The paint job is flawless. They had to completely disassemble my car and they reassembled it with out a squeak or a rattle. Do I recommend Dorn’s? Absolutely!!!

Had to have my Tesla in for repairs. Took a little longer than expected because of issues with my insurance company. However Dorn was extremely responsive to me throughout the whole process. The car came back in perfect condition. I was extremely pleased with the service I received will contact them again if I ever have any future issues with my car.
Somebody hit my Model Y in a garage a week after I bought it, leaving a ~6 inch dent + scratch in the rear fender. Dorns was awesome and provided premium service from start to finish: they called the store manager at Enterprise on his cell phone to complain that my rental car was taking too long to arrive, offered to deliver my Tesla to my home after it was done, and gave me frequent updates on the status of my repair... Clay was the mechanic who took personal responsibility for fixing my Model Y and he really did a phenomenal job. The rear fender Clay repaired literally looks better now than it did before and better than the fender on the other side on my essentially brand new car. They also did a full detail and Clay offered to wash it again for free anytime I wanted to stop by. This was by far the best experience Ive ever had at a repair shop.
I took my 2004 Land Rover Discovery to Dorns to repair front end and passenger side damage. They made the entire process stress free, dealt with the insurance company and kept me updated throughout the process. The final product was better than I could have imagined. The car looks showroom new, inside and out. Would definitely recommend!

Very professional, cooperative, and friendliest business Ive ever seen! They kept me up to date and prompt on the status of my vehicle repairs and the price was reasonable. Also performed a complete inspection. They even added in a spa treatment that included a complete wash and detail clean on the interior! I was completely blown away by how beautiful my car looked when I picked her up; practically brand new(though its a 2012)and more beautiful than the day I drove it off the dealers lot 3 years ago! If the dealers were only half as good. My car always displayed the same issues after 2 different dealers stated the car was repaired...Thank goodness for Dorns. The car went from a dealer monthly repair to now...maybe once every 3 years. Cant say enough good things about Dorns!!!
I brought my Tesla model 3 in after I was rear-ended. The car pretty much needed an entirely new back end including liftgate, bumper and all the sensors/wiring and electrical.Dorns worked with my insurance and got my car in for repairs quickly.A big shout out to Clay and the others on the Tesla team at Dorns. Clay was very helpful and communicative through the process, giving frequent updates on the car and parts ordered. Clay even overnighted a couple items to me that I had forgotten in my car that I needed.He and his team are very skilled and professional. Its never fun getting your car worked on especially after an accident and no one likes leaving it anywhere for too long but I felt my Tesla was in very good hands and always knew what was going on and what to expect. I got the car back washed, cleaned and detailed looking better than new and like the accident never happened.They even delivered the car to my house when repairs were completed. Cant beat that!

I had my Audi towed to Dorn’s after a not at fault accident that occurred in SC. I chose Dorn’s because I’ve known of the shop all of my life and they have a great reputation; plus they are an Audi certified body shop - this was important to me as I wanted a shop that was familiar with Audi electronics, etc. to ensure nothing would be missed in the repair process. From the first time I contacted Angela and had several conversations with her and others In the shop, I was impressed with their knowledge, responsiveness and professionalism. Although my insurer ultimately covered the cost of the tow back to Va, this was in question for a few days and Dorn’s did not hesitate to step in and help me figure out ways they could assist me in getting the vehicle back here.The insurer based their initially low estimate (done in SC) off of pictures... however, once Dorn’s took off the front and rear bumpers they found significant damage and the vehicle was subsequently deemed a loss... meaning Dorn’s made nothing from me since there was no car to repair. Rob was incredibly helpful in explaining all of the damages they found on the vehicle and provided me photos of everything. He was also prompt in returning several of my calls to answer my questions as they arose - even after it was clear they would make nothing off of me.While hearing the vehicle I had only owned for 8 weeks couldn’t be salvaged was not the news I wanted to hear, I am thankful for Dorn’s honesty and am appreciative that they didn’t attempt to put together a vehicle that wasn’t worth fixing. Most importantly, while they worked with my insurer on my behalf throughout the process, I always felt as they MY advocate and acting on my behalf and in my best interests.I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dorn’s for all of the above reasons and will definitely be back if the need arises in the future (although I hope that won’t be anytime soon)!
I decided to select dorns for my Body work after hitting a deer on a highway. They worked with my insurance carrier to make the process smooth and seemless, and their work was absolutely EXCELLENT! The customer service and professionalism was top notch and I even got my car back from repair cleaned and what appeared to be detailed. I HIGHLY recommend them, especially if you are very particular about your vehicle. I noticed that they had the most certifications and credentials of any shop in RVA and I am a customer for life! Made an appointment to have my car detailed Thursday March 11, 2021. Dropped the car off Wednesday March 10 around 3pm.I received a call about 2pm Thursday saying they would like to keep car another night and get it done by noon on Friday March 12.I asked if car was in process and was told no work had been performed. I then chose to promptly pick up my vehicle. Dorns brochure indicates a full detail could take 4-6 hours.I understand businesses can have unforseen issues but an appointment is a commitment and I was not offered a raincheck, discount or an apology.This was my first experience with this business and right it feels like it will be the last.

Repair work - 5 stars - outstanding work, friendly.Hassle - 1 star - avoid - I chose Dorns to repair my car. They took it apart to give me an estimate. State Farm rejected their estimate, said Dorns hourly rates for repairs are too high. At first I asked Dorns if they would put the car back together so I could take it elsewhere, they said they would charge for that, so I did not do that. Dorns then told me the insurance companies often refuse to pay their rates. They told me many of their customers take their insurance companies to small claims court to make them pay the full cost of the claim. So thats what I did. I paid Dorns $4,000 to repair my car, State Farm paid me $3,000. I took State Farm to small claims court. Took me hours to figure out what to do. Filled out forms, mailed letters, went to Hanover Courthouse. It worked, State Farm settled and paid me the remaining $1,000. But this is a huge hassle. I suggest avoiding it. Ask Dorns up front if they will only charge a rate your insurance company is willing to pay. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and take your car elsewhere. Next time Im going elsewhere.

Too difficult with which to work, in my opinion. I needed a driver side door applique replaced as mine flew off as I was riding down the interstate. I called Dorns and they insisted I make an appointment to look at the vehicle. I told them I knew, without a doubt, what part I needed (had already done my research) but an appointment was required. Following the preliminary appointment, there would be another 3 day wait to get the part in and then we would have to schedule the actual install....all the while rain water would be getting into that particular part of the driver door. No thanks. I went elsewhere and had the part installed same day.
My car was new to us (November 2019, we purchased a CX5 Mazda with specialty signature paint etc) then 4 months later in March, a valet driver hit a concrete pole with it - Needless to say, we were not happy with the scrapes etc on it.Dorns not only made it right - there is NO indication that anything happened to it at all. It looks beautiful and the surprise of it all being detailed and so clean when we picked it up made the experience with Dorns even better. Not only is the work they do on the car excellent, but they have also been extremely helpful during this Covid19 time and in helping with the insurance company that the incident was filed with (since it was not our own). Absolute RIP OFF!! I took my vehicle there because they were a certified Tesla repair shop. I was in an accident where as the other party and insurance company accepted fault and was paying for all damages.But this company charges fees that neither my insurance company or the other partys have ever seen before (Blueprint fees?? plus $80/day for storage!! They took 22 days to get back to me as well with an estimate for repair!!!) They produced a repair bill that was MORE than twice as much as the insurance company estimated. Sure, insurance companies are always trying to save a buck....but when I asked a competing repair shop, they AGREED with the the insurance company. Dorns is a total rip off!! I even tried to file a claim with my insurance company to see if they would pay Dorns bill, as I thought their might be some legitimacy, and they told me to get my vehicle out of there as soon as possible!!Dorns advice / process...pay the bill, and then take the insurance company to small claims court as they always pay up. In the 100 or so times he told people to do it last year, they almost always paid. These frivolous lawsuits and my time lost so Dorns can make extra cash is the worst and most unethical business practice I have ever witnessed.Please DO NOT take your vehicle there (especially if it is a Tesla). Do the legwork of calling around, as there are other shops that are qualified to make the necessary body repairs.
Definitely recommend considering Dorn’s for any auto body or service needs. Truly appreciate the knowledge and transparency of their staff. Great experience on all fronts!

Spoke with Rob about towing my Peterbilt semi. Upon doing the job, the operator snagged my new bumper, and ripped off the lic plate, but destroyed the bumper. The brand new bumper!!Spoke with Rob over this, emailed him the pics of the damage, he actually admitted on the phone, that the operator caught the bumper but claims no damage was done, this is false. Rather then taking responsibility of the damage, and rectifying the issue they just do nothing. Not even a phone call to say sorry we wrecked your bumper, but we just dont care.Instead I get a response, FROM THE OWNER, that Ive never done business with them!! Funny thing I have email from Rob with the bill and a credit card statement that proves the transaction.I get that this is an unprofessional company that feels it is ok to damage a customers equipment. At least the operator put my lic plate back in the cab of my truck Per my phone call conversation from Rob.Thanks for the horrible service, lesson learned stay far away from Dorns in Mechanicsville, VA!!
Had them tow my peterbilt semi, the operator towed it forward. Upon either hooking up or dropping my truck, he managed to catch my bumper. Destroyed my bumper which was brand new. But at least he had the decency to place my license plate he had ripped off inside my cab. Admission of guilt.....
I would highly recommend Dorns! I had to have my front bumper replaced and they did an awesome job. The staff was wonderful and very responsive. Will more than likely start taking my 4Runner there for all my needs going forward. My vehicle was returned to me in pristine condition. Again, I highly recommend them!
My husband took car and explained and showed her just he wanted, she gave him a price on paper and now I call to make an appointment and they will not use the parts that he had bought and that was part of the price. Today they said they would not use the parts that he bought. We have the paperwork from them saying that they would. We will never try to deal with people who false advertising.

Dorns offers great, reliable service. We recently took our van for a state inspection. They were able to work us in to their schedule since we were only in town for a day. They showed us where the muffler had rusted through which would not pass the inspection criteria. They were able to order a new muffler and had it installed in a few hours at a fair price. Highly recommend this company for all your auto needs.

Since picking up the vehicle, I’ve inspected the area where the damage occurred several times and it looks just like when I drove it off the dealership lot (my vehicle is only a few months old). I recently went to Dorns and I couldnt have been happier with the service provided by Tony and the staff. Tony is very personable and honest. I needed to have the undercarriage of my vehicle repaired (it failed VA State Inspection) and needed bodywork. Dorns repaired the undercarriage in record time, inspected my vehicle and found a serious issue that the other inspection station failed to notice, issues with my exhaust leaking (I had holes in both mufflers), the leaking carbon monoxide couldve been fatal. Dorns provided a reasonable price for the repairs, but I opted to have another shop complete the work, because I had a line of credit there. Thanks Dorns for the great service and potentially saving my life!

I was referred to Dorns from a friend and was skeptical about taking my car there because they did not advertise that they worked on Mercedes vehicles. My car( a candy apple red Mercedes), was rear ended and needed a complete bumper replacement. Dorns did an amazing job on my car. Had some front end damage to the truck. Replaced the hood, grill, bumper, lights, AC condenser, and radiator.Week after week was given the run around being told the parts that were ordered wont fit, we cant figure out the wiring .SIX weeks later we finally get the truck back, without the emblems on the hood. Attention to detail is definitely lacking.NEVER AGAIN!!!

I went to dorns after doing a lot of searching for a place I wanted to restore my car to its former glory. Didn’t I find myself concerned l, hearing about my insurance company going after strictly aftermarket parts. Well due to the extensive damage and time needed to make the repairs I waited in suspense. 30 days later I picked my car up and it looked better than when I bought it. This was the worst experience of my life dealing with the staff of this shop. They drove my car and put mileage on it while being repaired. They did not have a record of mileage when car was brought in. The car in question was a Toyota Prius.They overestimated damages which were a few scrapes on the paint on the passenger side. They continually lied when asking about the time when I could pick up my vehicle. I reported them to the BBB.If you a person of color, I would not use their shop as they treat you like you are the dumbest person in the world when you call into question their ethics. I have never had my intelligence put to a test as I did in selecting this shop. Stay away!----------------------------------------------------------------------------I have read the response to this complaint after being called the day of the post. If you are black or a person of color please spare yourself humiliation and hardship, and stay away from this place of business! There was absolutely noting of truth in the response and it can be proven!

Amazing job on my F-150!! It was hit in the side and since it is aluminum, the damage was extensive. Dorns being a Ford certified shop, I didnt hesitate to take it to them. The results are unreal and look excellent, its like the accident never happened! I was left without a rental (due to insurance allowance running out) and Rob did a great job pushing at the 11th hour, staying late, and getting me the truck early. I wouldnt take my vehicle anywhere else, their work coupled with their customer service is unprecedented.

Picked up my vehicle a few days ago couldnt be happier. I dealt with Clay who was a pleasure to work with. Work was excellent. The car was completely detailed when i picked it up. Being they are porsche certified makes it even better, parts need to come from germany so took little longer than everyone expected but well worth the wait. Will not let anyone other than Dorns work on my vehicle . Thank you Dorns
Was a long 7 weeks for a bumper! Had 3 reps nobody stays working there!! Called my car was ready she went to get it wouldnt start for real? Well after more waiting it was pulled out front for me, not sure what they did wont GO EVER AGAIN!
A estimate of 9 business turned into 22 business days, 30 days total. When I picked up my car the battery was almost dead because the dome light had been left on. They failed to reconnect my antenna so I had to take it back the next day to fix that. I went to get gas and the tank cover door would not open. I had to drive home and pry the door open. The compartment was filled with tape and paper from the paint job. I will never use them again. Attention to detail was seriously lacking.
I had Dorns tow my car from my home after it was hit in the side. My 2015 VW Tiguan was t-boned and both the drivers side and rear side air bags deployed. They did a great job on the internal and external work of the vehicle. My car was detailed when it was delivered back to me and I got routine updates. it looked just like my car did when I bought it brand new!I never had to deal with the insurance companies or rental agency, which was a huge bonus in my busy life...thanks again!

Great Job! Dorns did a really great job repairing my Nissan Murano. The front end damage was severe enough that I required towing and since 2 close friends had good work done there recently, I had my car towed to Dorns. The staff was really helpful and took the time to explain the repair process and basically took care of everything. Since the car was only about a year old with low miles and in near-flawless pre-accident condition, I and my husband were a little worried that the car would never be the same; and were maybe a bit worrisome- but we were updated through the process and the car passed our perhaps slightly intense review when the repair completed. I would have to say the car looks fantastic and drives perfectly. Do not hesitate to take your car to Dorns/not if you want a high quality repair..nice folks too!
Im reading these reviews and am amazed at the poor ratings. Weve been customers for years for mechanical and body work and have nothing but great things to say about Dorns. Thank you Tony and staff for all your great work.
