We adopted two black cats from here 4 years ago without meeting them first. They are now brothers and love each other. This Humane Society cares and treats the animals very well. The facilities were clean and staff was helpful and caring. If we adopt another pet in the future we will go here. (Burrito on the left, Chimichanga on the right)

About a month ago I went into HSNI with my dad to help him pick out a dog. The staff were great about working with his schedule to come in and meet some dogs amongst COVID, and they were so attentive about his needs and capabilities with a dog. We ended up meeting and adopting Peaches who is such a wonderful match and sweet girl. When I brought her back in to have some stitches removed she was so excited to see every single staff member. I know they must have taken really good care of her!

Words cannot define the amazing gifts of love the staff has for all the fur babies being rescued, cared for, and preparing them for their forever home❣💙💜🧡💛💚 I recently adopted two kittens that were siblings and to know what great health they are in, i am wowed by them, all vaccinations, spay/neuter, and well fed❣ I adopted Twix and Kitkat, my life is filled with joy💜 And my most favorite part of my day is having them both snuggling next to me and theyre purring so loudly, this is my waking moment and going to sleep moment💜💙 Climatizing them from kennel life to my home was a breeze! They knew exactly what and where the litter box was and my goodness, all i can say is, WHAT A BLESSING they are to me, and me to them! Thank you Humane Society, with all my heart💝

Got back to us about our application very fast and were a lot of help when we were volunteering and walking dogs.

You have no right taking mine babies mine Dogs Zena and Little snickers it wasnt mine fault animal control didnt give me to find a place for mine they took mine babies refused to give back mine babies i wasnt mean to them i kept up on their shots and taking to see their vet every year i will be a new home owner on June 1st animal control should be ashamed of them self you sell mine babies i will put up a law suit to city of masoncity

I have been blessed with being able to adopt 5 dogs from the Humane Society of North Iowa and it has amazed me every time what a wonderful and enjoyable experience it has been.

Very caring place. I left my two puppies with them and I’m sure they’ll take great care of them until they get adopted.

I had volunteered there in the spring before the pandemic and loved it. Friday I adopted my baby from there. Great organization and facility. Great people.

We recently found our new adoption via Petfinder and he was at the Humane Society of North Iowa. The facility is beautiful. We had a great experience with all of the workers that we dealt with. Very knowledgeable and everything they shared with us was true about the dog we adopted.

The shelter manager, Stacy Rooney, and the executive director, Sybil, are two of the most unprofessional ladies for being the faces of the Humane Society. If you have a pitbull that was taken from your own yard and placed at the Humane society DO NOT expect to walk in there, claim your pup and go home. Its been two months of poor correspondence and zero understanding on their end. I would not recommend conducting business of any kind while these two are in control. It is both sickening and saddening

I love this place so much!! The workers are so kind to both the animals and the people, they give great detail on the animals, they’re very clean and very professional! I love visiting and playing with the cats and walking the dogs! I love that they give the animals opportunities to live in the perfect home! Definitely recommend going here!

We drove here from Minneapolis, MN, and it was so worth it. We adopted a cat named Pongo, and the staff there were very honest and open about all of the other cats that we peaked interest in. Pongo has been an amazing addition to our family, and we look to adopt here again in the future for new furry friends!

Trying to adopt a dog from these folks is like pulling teeth. Never get back to you. They dont pick up the phone when you call. Feels like they dont want you to rescue their dogs which is very frustrating.

They refused to release an animal that had gotten loose for the first time to a legal registered owner that had met all their criteria. They also refused to release a puppy that had not yet been registered to someone that had proof they purchased the animal then adopted it out while the owner was going through the process to get approved to adopt it. Animals belonging to good people get loose accidentally everyday. Better hope they dont end up here.

Tried to adopt a dog...said I had inconsistent vaccinations with my vet..my last dog had vaccinations due when he was getting sick..vet said to pass on them in case he didnt pull through...when we put him down he was 3weeks past needing his vaccinations..not sure how thats all fair but it is what it is

Read other comments...you will see that my experience is not uncommon. Staff treats the humans inhumanely - super rude.We wanted to adopt a dog there, so we called ahead and asked what the process was for this specific dog we were interested in. We were told to bring our dog so we could see how they get along. It is a rescue dog that we were looking to adopt so that made complete sense to us. We asked them if we could come today to do the visit with our dog and that we were coming from Minneapolis. In response, we were told yes absolutely and their operating hours for that day, so we packed our entire family into the car to go meet the dog. When we arrived, we were stared at and immediately greeted with what seemed like disdain. We didnt understand what the problem was. I stayed outside with our dog while my wife and kids went inside to meet the dog first. After additional awkwardness, they were finally shown back to the kennel to see the dog. They were not allowed to actually be with the dog...simply look at the dog through the fence. The explanation offered was that the manager needed to be there to facilitate the visit with the rescue Samoyed and they werent there today. Thats completely understandable; however, it would have been good information to know before we jumped in the car and drove 2 hours with the entire family! After that explanation, my wife and kids came outside to get me so I could see the dog. I handed over our dog to my wife and went inside with my kids. After being shown back to the kennel, the dog made its way outside so all I could see was her nose as she poked through the gate twice. We waited patiently for her to come back inside so I could at least see her, but she never did. Disappointed, I was about ready to leave but my wife convinced me to go give it another try so my wife asked the staff if we could be escorted outside like she was earlier where she at least saw the dog for some length of time. The response of one of the staff members was to simply brush off the request and say that the dog would probably just go inside, implying we should simply give up and go home. I got completely ticked off at that and we had words with the staff. We were called liars, telling us that we were not told that we could visit with the dog today, and that we were not told that we should bring our dog. Not that we needed any more reasons, but that was the absolute last straw for me and we immediately left.Again, read the other reviews and you will see that this is a common pattern of human abuse at this shelter. I highly recommend that you go elsewhere. Sad to say that when there are innocent animals that suffer as a result of the staffs behavior, but there really needs to be some big changes at this shelter.

I love this place, I adopted a cat from here going on 3 1/2 years ago and the process was so easy. I adopted another cat at one time also but he unfortunately has passed on a little over a year ago. I remember when I adopted him Sybil was excited because she called him her cats twin! I visit this shelter almost every Wednesday to walk the dogs and play with the kitties and its become something I look forward to doing every week! Love the staff and love the fur babies! Keep it up, all!

We went to play with the cats to socialize them. It was nice that they have rooms that you can enjoy their company. It is clean and well kept. Someday when I own a home and can adopt I hope to adopt from them.

Such a beautiful-well ran facility.Plenty of space on the grounds to walk the dogs. I really enjoyed the off-leash areas.The staff is helpful without hovering over you, making getting to know the animals feel more natural.

I was looking all over for a young grey cat and found a few kittens at the Mason City humane society.. I am so happy with my choice, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the kitten named Pecan is such a joy, she is very playful and loving and loves to sleep on my lap, she has adjusted well to her new home.Thankyou to everyone at the shelter for all your help and for this wonderful loving kitty, i would recommend the Mason City humane society to anyone looking for a new family member.

Awesome place to Find a cat or a kitten,they got lots to choose from. I have heard that North Iowa humane society is Very picky and hard to adopt from,I didnt have a single problem. No Hassle or Anything. Their rules are No different than anyone else, and believe me the pet adoption industry rules have changed alot Since I Last Adopted. But yah The North Iowa humane society is the best Ive seen in the State......Dirk

Kind workers every time. Love coming out here to walk dogs and socialize the cats. Great local activity to get out of the house, love on some sweet animals and maybe even give one a forever home! They even have bunnies for Easter gifts right now!

I was impressed with the cleanliness of this shelter. Its off the main roads, but has a very nice setting. Lots of area to walk a dog and get acquainted. Cats and dogs are easy to see through their gates or window plexiglass. Employees will help you get a closer look by just asking for assistance.

They told us to fix our dog at home before considering us for adoption, so we did. We ended up didn’t even get to adopt the dog we wanted because someone from Des Moines also wanted the same dog and they gave it to them. This humane society is not first come first serve. They don’t even do lottery if more people are wanting the same pet under equal opportunity. We ended up adopting our other dog from Minnesota. Will never step back to this shelter again if need to adopt another pet.

Got to have the blood a virgin.i have 9 yr dachshund. Have step made for couch and bed. Really most places he has stairs . Got literary yelled at for wearing flip flops. Thought we were good.everyone said good luck. U. Brought your kids

I was looking for a kitten or a young one. They had a lot of them so I picked one out did they paper work and was going to pay $150.00 for this cat. They were not very polite and said that I had to have my husband come over to see the cat. WHAT HE IS THE ONE THAT SAID I COULD GET ONE. With all those cats when you have someone to give a loving home whats with the 5th degree. I got one from my local Vet.and it was free.

Dont like veterans bossy think theyAre better than the adoptors. Took a Marines dog and would not give it back until he paid them 450 dollars if the place Was on fire Id save he animals first. Did everything they asked us to do then they still werent satisfied. Go to a different shelter to adopt. This is probably why so many animals are euthanized!!!

I have adopted 3 wonderful dogs from the humane society of north iowa/mason city stray animal shelter! Every adoption was a wonderful experience, the staff where very professional and kind and always willing to answer questions or concerns. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

I just want all the animals! One employee could be a lot more respectful to people bringing in animals! Like she was upset that I brought in a cat that wasnt mine, um at least Im not one of those people that just throw them out in trash bags or murder them! Be thankful employees!

My wife and I adopted both a cat and a dog from the Humane Society in the last year. We are very pleased with our pets and the service we received. You can tell that the employees have a passion for what they are doing because they put each applicant under a microscope 🔬 in order to find a good match for the doggos and catos. Our pupperino is very happy at home. The cat on the other hand...🐕🙀😾🐱🐶🤷🏻‍♂️🤠... is slowly adjusting to her new house mate!

They care about the animals and are very reasonable with adoption fees. Applications are straight forward for all .Everyone should support their efforts.They work hard to find good homes for animals that have been lost, and the ones dumped and spend lots of money and time on the ones that are abused.These animals are here because of neglectful owners not fixing their animals. It not the animals fault.We go until every pet has a home.

Very unhappy with them wanted to just adopt a cat and dog for my farm. Look at application, they want everything knowing about your personal life. Will never go back there. Its not a first come first serve shelter. Thats what they have cabin fever animals. HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT GOING.

Made a call about adopting a Samoyed, they said the application would take a week to process. so i submitted one. Not only has it take over a week. (7days) the lady on the phone i talked to said it would be another week wait and that my chances of getting him were low.A note to the review team for this Business,Advise your customer service team to actually tell people the truth and not lie to them and waste peoples time.To all the people looking to adopt dogs or cats from these people,it may take months to get the animal you are wanting to adopt and bring home. So plan ahead.

I called looking for a potential companion for myself and female heeler. Looking for a male who who could run, and hang with her. The fact that he would be neutered was a plus. HOWEVER, I was informed that I would be required to have my female neutered as well. I have no intention of doing this and you have no right to require it. It appears you would rather put a dog down than send them to a loving home if they dont neutered their pet. I will be notifying everyone I know of your policy and preference to end the animals lufe as opposed to placing them in a loving, forever home.

I wanted to adopt a pet from there several months ago and was informed that I had to get my old mama cat fixed in order for the adoption to go through they were all quite rude and I felt so bad for how those beautiful fur babies must feel around those ill mannered and ill groomed women. NOT one was in the least inclined to help. Id rather go anywhere else than that place.

I got a puppy named Cora from here she is 6 months old she has been a gift to me and our other dog jac we had to put done our dog Nanook . Today Jac is a very happy dog having Cora to play with. We love all the employees at the humane society and shelter have always been exceptionally nice and take fantastic care of all their animals we have gotten 2dogs from there and they are the best ever LOVE U GUYS!!!!! and yes they ask a lot of questions this is because they care about EVERY ANIMALthey have im glad they have threse questions if you have nothing to hide WHATS THE BIG DEAL!!?

These employees are very rude and not the least bit helpful. When we were trying to get our situation sorted out the manager decided to just leave instead of trying to help us and after she left all we got out of them was Oh just talk to our manager, shell be back in tomorrow Disrespectful and will never go to this place by choice ever again. They wasted 5 hours of our time on purpose to get more money out of us because our pet was there. We couldnt even leave with our dog even though we had proof it was ours.

Disrespectful, I provided documents on all my past and current pet to show they have been and are taken care of. We wanted a cat that has been there for almost a year, You Google search to check residents and call me a liar. Go somewhere else and pray that the staff dont treat the pets like they do the customers.

I enjoyed my time there. I didnt want to leave and wanted to take a puppy home with me.

Went there for a service project. If we walked away from the adult they would get triggered and wouldnt stop yelling at us. We werent allowed to do anything on our own, and couldnt walk anywhere without being yelled at.
