I cannot begin to explain what this place has done for not only my children, but for myself. The instructors are incredibly patient, hard working, and provide fun learning for the children of all ages. This place is amazing at communicating with the parents! It has given my children a safe place to learn how to defend themselves, and provide them with patience in meeting their own goals. It has given me more confidence in them to handle themselves in all situations, whether it be a bully at school, or a stranger on the street, they are prepared to handle it. Thank you for providing my children the skills to be patient with others, as well as themselves. And thank you for showing them how to not only set goals, but reach them.

I looked all over southern Illinois and Cape Girardeau and Bethels martial arts school was the only place I found that exemplifies both the mental and the physical aspects of martial arts. They also have flexible scheduling that allows you to change the night you attend according to your weekly schedule. I highly recommend this black belt school.

A really good place to go. Mr. Bethel teaches the students some Korean, Japanese, and some other martial arts languages. He teaches self-discipline, respect (lots of it), health, gratitude, etc! I have only one complaint. Mr. Bethel is never there and Mr. Daniel has to teach the class. He is there so much and he cant even get tested for his black belt because Mr. Bethel is never there! Since he is never there, the students keep learning the same exact thing over and over again. You can predict the entire class correctly if you have been taking it for at least a year. Despite these flaws, it is a really good place to go and you get to learn to spar, and after five years of learning, you can possibly earn your black belt (if you pass the test). He teaches you all the types of Martial Arts, so if you are transferring places, you can keep your belt. Then possibly learn more things about different types. Mr. Bethel’s teacher was also one of Bruce Lee’s students so Mr. Bethel is really good.

Mr Bradley and Ms Megan with Marion Bethel Martial Arts are absolutely amazing with all of the kids... my 5 yr old is just on wk 3 there, and we already see improvement with him. You know that they truly care about the kids, and they are teaching them so many important life skills, while setting high expectations all with respect and patience. They work with us parents on common goals for our children. We are so happy with the choice to give them a try, and we just signed up for the next year!! We recommend them to anyone!!

Being parents of 3 boys ages 8, 14, &15 we always had constant bickering and fighting. We decided to enroll the boys in Bethels Martial Arts Academy and it truly has exceeded our expectations. The entire staff is amazing and Mr. Bethel is phenomenal with the kids. We started noticing a change in their behavior after about 2 weeks of class. Not only have our boys self-confidence increased but the classes have also taught them self-discipline. They are learning how to walk away rather than feed into conflict. The classes dont just teach them Martial Art moves. They also teach them important life skills such as leadership, pride, focus, self-defense, and how to respect yourself as well as others. We are very happy and are excited to see our boys development through the years.

When our son, Benjamin was four years old he injured his right hip and had to have surgery to repair it. He spent most of the summer after his surgery in a wheelchair and more time getting back on his feet.Because of this he has lived with trouble running and balancing well. He never lets it get him down though and when asked if he would like to try learning martial arts at Bethels he nervously agreed. He has been enrolled in classes with Bethels now for several months and really enjoys it. He struggles here and there from time to time but with the help and guidance of the truly talented instructors at Bethels he has really grown in his studies. His balance and confidence have improved and continue to improve daily.Bethels has been wonderful and I most definitely recommend them to anyone, young and old.

Both of my boys are attending classes at Bethels, and I cannot begin to tell you how much it has helped them. My oldest son has always been very shy and timid, but I can see his confidence level increasing since starting. My youngest son is quite the opposite and is outgoing (and wild at times). During class, however, he is so attentive and obviously seeks the approval of Mr. Bethel. Both boys are gaining the skills they need, and they both went into this needing very different things. I couldnt be more pleased!

Boom! Our little ninjas just hit a year of training with Mr. Bethel and Mr. Bradley! Working with young children can be like herding kittens, but these guys have it down to a science. Whether it is a small group or large group, you will be impressed. We never feel like our kids get lost in the numbers, and the instructors interact with every student. You may get pulled in the fun while watching your kids too. Just go!

I have two daughters, ages 7 and 9, enrolled in Rick Bethel’s Martial Arts Academy in Marion, IL. It has been 5 months and my girls still look forward to class 2 nights a week. Self-defense is an invaluable skill to give your child. Not only does self-defense give a parent confidence that their child could defend themselves against a bully, but that they could escape if they were grabbed by a stranger. Weekly, children are given multiple situations that warrant defense along with various methods to handle those situations in a repetitive and memorable format. It gives the children confidence because they feel empowered rather than fearful or helpless. They even have fun while they are learning these skills. In case you are thinking you can take self-defense classes anywhere, I recommend that you read the mission statement posted on Mr. Bethel’s website. Mr. Bethel and his black belt staff go beyond teaching self-defense by emphasizing a moral philosophy to be the best all around individuals at every class. I think most people would agree that this is rarely encouraged in any extracurricular activity. Here are some of the lessons that have been discussed:-The importance of earning good grades-Setting goals and working hard to accomplish them-What sportsmanship truly means-The necessity to pay attention and follow directions-Examples on how to be respectful, well-behaved andkind human beingsMr. Bethel and his wonderful staff will give your children skills that will last a lifetime. Every week, I feel some relief knowing I am giving my girls the ability to defend themselves in a manner that will also further guide them to make good life choices.Thank you, Mr. Bethel, Mr. Bradley and Mr. Darius! You are deeply appreciated!

No reason a 7 year old who did his best should have to hear the words he wont fit in And we dont have the resources to deal with a child who has autism the point of taking a class is to help the children get where they need to be. Do NOT take your child here. There are many other martial arts places in the area. Go to CMA
