This place and atmosphere is one of a kind. This type of living is what being connected to nature is like. This is good country living. Alot of people have a romanticized view of the country and want it tied up in a pretty bow. Well here youll get good company and fresh air, so if thats what your looking for you have found it here. Might you find some cob webs and rough edges? Yes, but thats the beauty in it. The breakfast was delicious. Jim and Katy were the kindest people, very great host. There grand kids kept my daughter plenty of company. This trip reminded me of being back home in Kentucky. We had a great time and will be back. Thank you Jim, Katy, Jasmine and William. ❤

I would first like to say that this place has a lot of potential. It has a great view and the layout of the cabin is decent. However, the cleanliness is below average. The owners seem kind and were thoughtful but the place just needs a lot of work. It seems they do not pay attention to details. There was dust everywhere, a dead bug in the windowsill when we arrived, cobwebs everywhere, mold in the fridge, stains in the shower, bugs and cobwebs on the couch, a tick in the towel basket, and stains on the sheets. The plumbing was also very iffy. The shower was scorching hot no matter which direction I turned it and the hot and cold were switched on the sinks. The only way to take a shower comfortably was to run the hot water in the sink while you showered. (That caused the shower water to be cooler). In general, there were just too many things that needed fixing, replacing, or cleaning. I came here for a vacation but it caused me more stress than being at home did. And while I understand it’s supposed to give you a rustic, old feeling, that doesn’t mean it should be dirty. I wish I could say I enjoyed staying here, but that would be a lie. I was anxious and felt dirty the whole time. It’s a shame that they did not keep up with cleaning and paying attention to details. I wouldn’t stay here again.

This was a wonderful place to stay. Jim and Katy were wonderful hostesses and the breakfast was AMAZING! This is an amazing place that is indeed rustic and full of experiences! The atmosphere is relaxing and views are beautiful. I loved swinging on the porch which was a great way to start and end the day. There was also a beautiful pond which we had a great time fishing at! Like some of the comments mentioned this is like steeping back in a time machine. These cabins are definitely rustic and may not be for everyone but it was the perfect place for my husband and I to get away!

This isnt the place for you unless you really like old stuff, and dont mind some filth with it. The owners are very accommodating, but their cabins could definitely use some cleaning and updating. The shower was filthy, the AC unit was loud and only kept the downstairs moderately cool, the bed wasnt comfortable, etc. But once again if you want an authentic, antique experience, this may be the place for you.

Want to walk through a time machine and find yourself in a mid 1800s squatter log cabin? Thats what this place is like. The best part was the wood fire crackling as we went to sleep in its glow, and then hearing about the history of the cabins from Jim at the delightful breakfast. Rating should go to 6⭐!

Place could be over 5 stars. Jim and Kate the owners seem nice. Had fire going when we arrived. Jim was there to meet us. Kate made me a b day basket with home made cookies and bread. Our cabin was pretty neat. Lots of stuff to look at, books, games, puzzles.Cabin was dirty, dishes were dirty, 4 crunchy towels, 2 forks, ran out of toilet paper. Supplied one trash bag. Firewood was left thrown on deck the farthest from our door.Bed was a rock. Box spring was broke and we went and bought a egg crate mattress to help, couch sagged so bad that it hurt our backs.Little things take this review from a 5 to a 3.

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary at the lake cabin. We absolutely loved it! If your looking for a glamorous stay, this is not the place for you. Its authentic and rustic and fit our needs perfectly. We enjoyed sitting on the porch swing looking out at the water. We enjoyed visits from the owners 2 dogs. They had a charcoal grill and we grilled both nights. We also enjoyed our fire pit. We are already planning another weekend stay in the fall.

Jim and Katy are wonderful hosts! Katys country style breakfasts are devine. Everything from her stuffed French toast to her sausage and potato cast iron breakfast are mouth wateringly delicious. Jim checks in daily to ensure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay. Jims cabin designs respect the rustic integrity of the original cabins while incorporating the modern conveniences of indoor plumbing and electricity. The location allows you to reconnect with nature and escape the pressure of our fast paced modern lifestyles. This is the perfect location to relax and rejuvenate.

Absolutely loved the cabin! It was built originally in the 1840s and the owners brought the one we stayed in (and many others) back and fixed them up with modern amenities. I especially loved the porch, the outdoor fireplace, the rustic wooden beams and the loft. The breakfast was home cooked and very good. The husband and wife who owned/ran the place were very nice. I will (and have) definitely recommend this place to others!

Theres one bad review that didnt even come here. Theres another that leaves bad reviews everywhere and says there were bugs. Well, its an authentic log cabin in the woods, of course there are bugs. Hardly saw any mosquitoes tho which was surprising. Another said no breakfast, must have been someplace else cause im always overfed. They even give me fresh garden veggies n fruit when i come in. Ive stayed here at least a couple times a year for many years and i will come back many more. Im on my 3rd doggy who has accompanied me and all of them love it. My girl now had been here several times and gets crazy playing in the big spring feed pond. Its so clean. Truly a doggy and child paradise.

Is someone would have told me we had something this lovely in southern Illinois Id have probably laughed in their face. Wonderfully nostalgic! Clean, comfortable cabins with all the comforts of home plus the wrap around porch over looking the lake is absolutely perfect for sunrise coffee and sunset beer or wine. Jim and Katie are friendly..like coming home! Wonderful breakfast that Katie made and Jim was so accommodating with forgotten items. Thanks so much for sharing your vision with the rest of us!! Much appreciated!

Was a great peaceful stay. Nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Staying in a log cabin is an experience, its not a 5 star hotel pampering. Go with that in mind and you will love it

Overall--Great value and super dog friendlyWe have stayed here three summers in row and love it more every time. The cabins are a great value at under $90 a night. The ones I have stayed in are all two bedroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom. We also enjoy the outdoor fire place by the lake. We enjoyed walking the grounds, picking dinner from the gardens, and catch fish in the pond (grill provided) Dog people this place is for you...Dogs are more then welcome and they have the run of the place. We have two large breed dog who love to run with the owner well behavior pack and swim in the lake.

We were unplugged from the world and enjoyed the porch swing, full kitchen, and rustic atmosphere of the prairie like cabin.Breakfast is provided every morning by Katie it is down home deliciousness! You will feel like part of the family every night you stay there!

I did not stay here, but called to see if there were any rooms available. The gentleman I spoke with was very rude. He told me the prices on the website were void at this point because apparently a solar eclipse will be occurring the weekend I needed a room. False advertisement then! I needed a place to stay in that general area, not everyone is traveling because of a solar eclipse. I can watch that from my house for free! He asked me what I wanted to pay and would not give me a price. Told me when I decided what my budget could handle to give him a call!!! Are you serious??? I will take my business elsewhere, thank you! Looks like a fabulous environment, but I guess he wasnt interested in my business.

We were extremely disappointed. We had a very long journey from Florida and upon arrival, the cabin smelled. Went to use the rest room and flushed toilet and overflowed. Cabin looked like it had not been cleaned properly for some time. Linens appeared dirty and when the boys pulled back the sheets to go to bed there were spiders and a white powder substance on the linens and possible spider eggs. Needless to say, we repacked and left for other lodging. Such a shame, with some TLC and proper care, could be a little diamond in the rough.
