Great selection of shirts and masks fins. They didn’t have any regs for rent, which is what I needed:/They only filled my tank to 2600 psi, which I didn’t check until I was on the boat. I would have appreciated the tank being filled completely.All staff were super nice and helpful. They answered all of my questions and were very knowledgeable. Super neat looking store set up. Would definitely recommend and plan on doing a dive with them when we are back next year.

We went diving with these guys 2 days in a row. It was a fantastic experience! Great diving and very nice crew members. Everything was organized and very safe. We especially enjoyed Lynn the dive master who guided us around on each dive and pointed out all the cool stuff.

I have been a certified diver since 2000. I have been diving all around the world. I have in excess of 400 dives. I say this not to brag, but to give you a sense of perspective. In fact, there are many divers who have logged significantly more dives than myself. Some of the previous reviews are from novice divers who simply do not appreciate the quality of Captain Hooks.Captain Hooks is an excellent dive operator. The Florida Keys offers opportunities for all levels of divers. I chose Captain Hooks to advance my dive qualification to Rescue. One of the reasons I chose Captain Hooks for my advanced training is because the United States military trusts them to train our service members. The quality of instruction that I received was top notch. My instructor, Wayne, took the time to engage me and to challenge me to do my best. Thank you Wayne for your expert instruction.The staff were great to work with. Regardless of whether the staff were in the dive shop or on the dive boat, all of them recognized that the customer experience was of paramount importance. Part of that experience is good communication with their customers.One of the core values that Captain Hooks possesses is their unwavering commitment to diver and snorkeler safety. I observed this first hand multiple times during the week that I spent with Captain Hooks. First, Captain Hooks observes COVID safety protocols. Next, the staff at Captain Hooks were comfortable cancelling a dive or a snorkel trip if they believed that the conditions made the activity too unsafe. This can’t be said of all dive operators. I have been on dive boats that should have never left the dock due to unsafe sea conditions and that is an experience that no dive operator should ever voluntarily place their divers and crew in. On more than one occasion, Captain Hooks had to call me to cancel a dive due to bad sea conditions despite having plenty of divers willing to participate on a dive. Nevertheless, opportunities were created to dive in one of their three locations. Finally, all divers and snorkelers were accounted for by more than one individual and their counts were verified by the crew.Captain Hooks has three locations: Marathon, Big Pine Key and Key West. Each location was a fully functional dive shop. The boats at each of these locations were well appointed with safety equipment including AEDs and oxygen. The boats were very clean and this dive operator adheres to the Blue Star conservation standards.Without any reservations, I can wholeheartedly endorse and recommend Captain Hooks to be your dive operator if you are diving or snorkeling in Marathon, Big Pine Key or Key West. Captain Hooks is a safe and environmentally conscious business that I trust.

Amazing first scuba experience! Lauren was an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and patient guide (I’d recommend asking for her if you can because we thoroughly enjoyed her instruction, but everyone else at the shop was lovely as well). Capitan Keith and Dave on our boat were also ace. AND OH THE WATER!! Great team, best dive spots, amazing emphasis on safety and comfort. 11/10 🤿

This boat is permitted for hunting?We excitedly booked this dive to learn more about the native wildlife and how we could “do our part” to protect the amazing aquatic ecosystem in the Florida Keys.I can’t say enough positive things about the staff, check in process, great equipment, attention to detail and safety by the boat team. Great crew and captain, great dive shop, very comfortable boat.We also enjoyed the detailed educational session on the ride out to the reef around the Blue Star certification for conservation achieved by the Captain Hooks team. But later questioned if they were telling us the truth?On our second dive we were surprised and unsettled with the amount of hunting. We saw multiple fish speared and discarded on the reef and witnesses three men lift and reposition a rock on the reef so that they could capture by hand a small lobster and immediately rip the tentacles off and hold for the rest of the dive. It could not have been more than one bite of meat. Very surprised with the excess amount on hunting on this charter.I thought we were going to learn about sea life, not sea death and suffering in front of our eyes underwater?I’m very surprised that this tourist boat is permitted for hunting at this level. If you are a hunter this one is good for you, if you are interested in experiencing the beautiful underwater world and have kids and animal lovers in your party, I’d pick another charter.

I went diving twice with Capt. Hooks last week. All were great dives. They are very safety conscious and want make sure the divers have a good time. Captain Will is the man!

Stopped here for some rash guards. They have a huge selection and the staff was very helpful and friendly. They have some nurse sharks that are fun to see! I definitely recommend stopping by. Thanks!

Captain Mike and crew were friendly and helpful. It was a bit choppy at our first stop, and I lost my camera just after going in. Luckily for me the divers on board actually found it and brought it back up! Im so grateful. Our 2nd stop they brought us to was calmer and clearer and I had a great time out snorkeling. Thanks again for bringing us to good place.

While in Marathon we originally booked our dive with Isla Bella Dive Center. My little boy just completed his on line E-training and was told by the dive shop that we could do the pool and dives with them while we were in town. Pricing was as follows for his dive and for me to dive as well (Im already certified). Hunter Certification $ 1,237.72; 1 course diver and 1 certified diver $ 242.25 and finally 1 Course diver and 1 Certified Diver $ 242.25. Not to mention having to purchase DAN insurance to go on the dive with them. (Not saying the insurance is a bad idea- just an added cost) Everything was paid all waivers were signed and we were good to go at 1 PM the day before the dive. At 4:15 PM the owner of Isla Bela Dive Shop says there is no room on the boat and calls and canceled everything. So at 4:45 PM I was lucky enough to reach out to Captian Hooks and they stepped up and made things happen!Captian Hooks was super accommodating and moved things around and was able to accommodate our vacation schedule. I was shocked to find out the cost difference - For the same exact training Isla Bella Dive Center was $ 1,722.22 and Captain Hooks was $ 776.64. So there was a total saving of $ 945.58 with Captian Hooks.We had an amazing time on all of our dives. My little boy had one on one instruction. I dove the first two dives one on one with a divemaster. The following day I dove with two other divers and a divemaster.There where several other divers on the boat getting certified from open water to Rescue diving. Captian and mates also were super knowledgable and made sure all the proper safety precautions were taken for a fun and safe dive. I have been diving for 25 years and can say that Captian Hooks is a first class dive shop!See attached invoices for the dives so you can know Im not that person just out to trash somebody. We are all living in a crazy world and Im not trying to trash Isla Bella Dive shop. Captian Hooks just stepped up their actions made for a trip my little boy and I will always remember. On our last dive the weather changed and visibility went way down but as getting back on the boat the captain asked if I saw anything cool. My reply was Yes, I say my little boy get his open water dive license ! Thank you Captain Hooks and Happy Diving

My second experience with Captain Hooks and another top notch dive!This crew was so helpful and informative. Our dive master, Kevin, was absolutely fantastic. He was very attentive underwater and showed us so many things we would have missed otherwise. So grateful we were paired up with ya, Kevin thanks for a fun dive!

Friendly and helpful folks. Large boat that takes both divers and snorkelers. Knowledgeable dive staff. Two large dive groups on 2nd day...used to smaller groups. Reefs teaming with fish.

My father and I hadnt dove for a while before going on a charter with Captain Hooks, and we couldnt be happier about the choice we made. The crew were happy to help us set up our stuff, very friendly, and immensely knowledgeable about the local ecology. The boat (Jolly Roger) was big and had dry boxes which was a nice touch. There was also a water dispenser with cups, defogger and sunscreen. They thought of everything! If youre thinking about diving, go with Captain Hooks!

We rented a fishing rod and supplies for our 13 year old son. Staff was nice and knowledgeable and offered several different spots to take him fishing. They also gave us advice on the best bait for him to use. Smooth and easy rental and return. Make sure they mark you off on the return list to get your deposit refund. Somehow we didnt get marked off but they called us and fixed it immediately! Would recommend for any fishing needs you have!

Great spot on the water for gas, ice, drinks, bait or really anything else you need. All the employees are great super friendly people. I cant wait to see them again next year. Keep on Keeping on guys.

With our first time in the keys this facility came highly recommended. I can see why, Denise was fantastic, she was able to schedule all events, great follow-up. Vince, Kevin, Frank, Victoria, Lauren and the rest of the team were fun, pleasant, and fun to be around. Diving conditions were less than optimal, the crews made every effort to dive, when they felt conditions werent the safest they aborted the dives.I would definitely recommend Captain Hooks, cant wait to go back to the keys. My family and I will dive with them again for sure.

I recently completed my check-out dives for my open water diver course at Captain Hooks with Vince and it was such a great experience! Vince was a great instructor and made me feel at ease during each dive. I highly recommend doing your check-out dives with Captain Hooks! I cannot wait to come back to dive with your dive groups now that I am certified!

I’m writing this review based off the phone call I just had. Boyfriend dives and I snorkel, Kevin was MORE than accommodating and informative. He made the process so easy and reserved a spot for us right away so we didn’t miss out! I am so pleased with the customer service so far! GREAT SNORKELING TRIP! On vacation from OHIO. I have been snorkeling before but others in group had not. Captain Jeff and crew were professional and informative. Although Jeff is quite the comedian. Safety was their #1 priority. All wore masks per State reg. Sanitized snorkeling equipment comes with your reasonably priced excursion. Wetsuits are available to rent also very reasonable and fitted to you ahead of time. I watched EVERYTHING be thoroughly sanitized between each boat trip. We were shown & TOLD everything we would need to do to be safe on trip. In between that we got a wonderful & knowledgeable tour of all the interesting sites we passed.2+ hours of Snorkeling at Looe Key Reef at 2 different locations. Not everyone in our group was cut out for the combo of wetsuits and snorkeling and the crew gave them prompt attention when struggling in water. But it was done in a way so as not to embarrass them or disrupt anyone else’s excursion. Saw lots of beautiful coral and aquatic life. Barracuda, grouper and host of other fish.Captain Hook’s has 3 different locations in the lower Keys, but it’s all same family! WILL GO BACK AGAIN!!

Great experience over all. Our diving instructors were very passionate and helpful. The dives itself were beautiful. The crew were just all around friendly. Worth every penny!!

We were in Marathon a few weeks ago and decide to go for a dive trip. My son heard the name a thought “Cool Pirates”, so the decision was made and boy it was the best one. We went out with Capt Mike, Mate Ashley and Dive Masters Kevin& Dave. The entire staff both the store and boat crew were very friendly and knowledgeable. Myself, my son and wife were going snorkeling while my daughter was going on her first dive since getting certified a few weeks prior. On the way from the dock to the dive site they were sharing information about the area, and the ecosystem. Once we were at the dive site, they were very helpful in making sure that my daughter’s gear was all set as well as ours. This was by far the best charter I have been on. We will be back for sure as we are in Marathon 4-6 times a year.

Came here to snorkel with our family and the captain and crew were absolutely incredible. Felt very safe and educated about everything happening around us. They are trained by the military and it shows. Wouldn’t have snorkeled with anyone else!

Overall great experience. Great dive shop with very good instructors. Fishing gear and bait store are good too. Gas dock works well. Probably need to sell gas until about 9 pm and not stop when they close at 5 pm. At least in summer.

Ashley and Captain Mike were fantastic. Great place for your next dive! Unfortunately the conditions were pretty murky so we got just 2 dives in, but the dive masters and captains gave it their all to find us a spot to get in the water, and it was gorgeous. We went on a snorkeling trip in Big Pine Key. The staff was friendly from checking in to the ones on our boat. We had an outstanding experience. We saw multiple sharks and a large spotted eagle ray. The boat staff was very attentive, friendly, and helpful enhancing the trip. I highly recommend them and we will be back!!!!

Unlike my other conversations with area dive shops, Captain Hooks made it easy for a novice to understand the process and pricing related to NAUI and PADI Certification Courses. Denise manages the team and was immediately trustworthy and courteous. Lauren, our assigned instructor, combined patience and meticulous care for safety throughout the certification process. The captain and crew balanced the fun and safety required of the sport. In the end, certification was only one of the many rewards offered by the team at Captain Hooks. Weather a novice or an experienced diver, this shop will provide memorable experiences.

Great snorkel trip today! We went to 2 spots; great selections by the captain.Saw lots of coral and fish. There was no one else in the second spot so we had it all to ourselves. Will go again.

Heavy winds made our snorkel stop iffy. Hooks called us to let us know we could only go to one of the two sites as a result (option for refund if we wanted to cancel). Captain Will and first mate Koa were great! Friendly, helpful and informative. We had a little extra time so they made the most of it with a quick tour of some local sites.

Most professional dive company in the Keys, they have three locations from Marathon to Key West. Dive master is in the water with the divers and they offer instruction at many levels. Family owned and operated as well as Blue Star operator. Blue Star is all about reef conservation, preservation and education. Great company to dive with while in the Keys.

I did a morning dive, and my partner was a passenger on the boat as well. Captain Mike, mate Lauren, and dive master Josh all did a great job of providing awesome service to the divers. All the gear was in great condition (as well as the boat). Captain Mike worked hard to find the best dive spot for the group with the weather conditions we were working with. Also, this place had some of the best value for a dive that I’ve seen in the Keys. I would certainly return here!

Very cool ponds out front with predatory fish and lobsters.

I have been diving with them and recently did a sunset cruise as well. They run a safe and fun operation. Even if you are just driving through you should stop And check out the fish pond, I believe they do a feeding at 4 pm.

The boat crew and scuba instructors were great. Unfortunately that does not take away from the disgusting behaviour by the staff in short changing customers.

I highly recommend them.

Got our open water diving certification with Captain Hooks while on vacation and dont have enough good things to say! Lauren was our instructor and was an absolutely incredible and we always felt safe and comfortable despite the conditions on day one. She went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time and felt comfortable with diving! Would recommend Lauren and Captain Hooks to anyone!

Great experience. I was worried about my son taking the diving course. David was amazing and really took good care of my son while he was training him. During a dive my son inflated his vest by accident and went soaring towards the surface straight toward the boat propeller. David reacted quickly and saved him from what could have been a serious injury. If you are wanting a place that truly cares about you and your family this is it. Well worth the money.

Amazing, friendly staff that just makes you feel at home

We are avid snorkelers but it was a windy week. We depended on Captain Hooks to let us know which day was best and they nailed it! The boat was the perfect size, equipment seemed good, and instructions were professional yet relaxed. Sombrero Reef was beautiful with 30-35 foot visibility, and Delta Shoals was the same. We got to watch the divers tickle lobsters and the staff was wonderful all the way around. I was very impressed by the way they tracked the snorkelers in the water, always keeping watch and being available--I could always look up and see someone on the boat looking my way. Cant wait to go back next year!

Went diving with Captain Mikey and Dave (divemaster) this week. The whole crew was great and worked hard to ensure our safety. Dave was extra awesome helping me along with my dive gear, as I hadn’t been in the water in a year and definitely consider myself an amateur. We have been out snorkeling and diving with Captain Hooks many times and buy all our our fishing bait and fuel there. Always a great experience, with a nice stock of shop items to boot!

Good center for gear + the nurse shark pond in the front is really cool for the kids. The snorkel trip my family went on was a mix of dives and snorkeling, and definitely catered to the divers when considering locations to go to. Overall the boat crew was friendly though.

We rented scuba diving equipment for a week. We brought our tanks back everyday to be refilled. Every single person we had contact with was very unfriendly and rude. I think its a requirement to work here

Just went snorkeling with the Captain Hooks crew and had a great time as always! Denise and Andrew in the store are friendly and helpful and the boat crew were awesome as well (Capt. Mike, Lee, Cody, and Scooter). All were knowledgeable, helpful, and fun. We saw 2 large puffer fish, barracudas, skates, an eel! A great time on the water no doubt! Highly recommend.

Went to the Florida Marine Sanctuary with Will and Lauren. Top notch Captain and Dive Master. Can’t say anything that’s not positive. Tina and I had not dove in several years and they were amazingly patient! Visibility was 50-60 feet.

My wife and I came here for the holidays. We can’t say enough good things about Captain Hooks. Very safety conscious, while giving us a great diving experience. We saw turtles, nurse sharks, eels, and what seems like every type of fish. The staff was helpful and entertaining. We will be back!

Fun time! Definitely worth the money

We bought our snorkel gear here along with gas and bait! We had one of the flippers for the snorkel set break for my daughters youth set. They allowed us to return the snorkel set for another! Thank you we will be back! Kids enjoyed viewing the fish in the aquarium! The staff was helpful when picking out snorkel gear even with covid 19 going on! Feels good to be out and about as businesses are opening up!

The bait is overpriced, the tackle is overpriced, the fuel is over priced but that’s okay! Just as long as you use the money you are gouging out of everyone and fix the fuel dock so that it’s not destroying people’s boat. I’m just sayin

Captain Mike and V were absolutely amazing! He entertained us with information and comedy, and she worked her tail off doing everything else with the boat. V helped my 8 year old daughter who was pretty scared to snorkel. It turned the whole day around when V got in and helped my little Charlie out. I went for snorkeling but had as much fun hanging out talking to captain Mike. If I were wealthy I would have tipped them an absurd amount of money... and they’d be worth every penny.

Great tackle shop that has everything you need. The staff was happy to give out some tips about the local fishing as well. I highly recommend this place.

I went snorkeling and the employees were very nice people. But one of them didn’t do there job. The employee is supposed to size up the fins and masks and what not. I put on my fins and jumped into the water. Both fins came off and it was very rough and I basically almost drowned. Also after all that good stuff the one that gave me the wrong sized fins also made me clean the pee filled wetsuits. Not that good of an experience.

Great dive shop to go diving with Captain Will and his crew were great. They made the diving experience much more enjoyable and were extremely helpful in getting things set up and patient with me being the first dive I have done after getting certified. They knew the best spots to go and what to look out for. Saw some rays, lobsters, and tons of other really beautiful fish.

My wife and I just finished our open water cert this morning. Josh was our instructor. He was very thorough and attentive. Denise, captain Mike, and Dave all stuck out to us also. Each one of them took the time to sit and talk with us person to person and really engage us. They were all very inclusive, and we are very happy with ourselves and the service we were provided. We will be back for sure.

Booked with this company and unfortunately we didnt get to snorkel due to the weather conditions making the water super choppy, but the staff made sure we were safe and decided to cancel the trip after heading out. I appreciate them looking at the safety of their costumers and refunding our money. They were friendly.

We had our own masks, fins, wetsuits and computers so we rented a BC, regulator and tanks — all their rental gear was in good shape and well-kept. Prices were good and included was a complementary dive guide/master who accompanied us on our dives — this is something that will be extremely helpful for anyone recently certified or anyone who has not dove in a while. The boat was small, clean and comfortable and the crew were fantastic; helping us with our gear and giving us a detailed dive briefing. There is ice water and basic snacks on board so help yourself. The only issue we had is that we original booked 2-days of diving with them but they canceled our first days dive on short-notice because not enough people were booked to go; besides that, this is a solid recommendation.

This was my first time snorkeling a reef and my fiancé and I could not have had a better experience. The crew was amazing .. Captain Will and V were so kind and friendly. If you’re looking for something fun to do in Marathon this is a MUST. We will 1000% do this again!

Just returned from diving with Captain Hooks of Marathon, FL. I utilize Google reviews a lot, so this is an opportunity to give back.My daughter became PADI certified, utilizing the PADI eLearning method a week or two before the dive trip. It was supper convenient, and took less time than advertised. The app itself needs to be streamlined and cleaned up, but she got it done. Her boyfriend did the Discover SCUBA Diving (DSD), and I was able to enjoy some dives as I am already certified. The experience with Captain Hooks was a very good one!The staff is extremely experienced, and are very in tune to you having a good experience. When we arrived, the winds did not cooperate with good diving conditions (low visibility). Captain Hooks cancelled all dives for two days, until conditions improved. While this was not the news we wanted to get, it does show that they are interested in you getting a quality, safe dive in. Dan, the Operations manager made sure that he kept me in the loop via phone calls which I sincerely appreciated. The day before we left for home, we were able to dive. My daughter was able to complete here Open Water certification and I was able to get in 4 tanks worth (thank you Aaron).Captain Hooks now operates out of 3 locations...Marathon, Big Pine and Key West. I did not visit the Key West location, but the other two facilities were nice, clean and well equipped, especially the Big Pine location. The boat that we road out to the dive site on, was safe, clean and properly staffed. The rental equipment which they supplied worked well and was in good condition, including the masks, snorkels and fins. The Captain clearly explained all safety matters before leaving the dock.Our Dive Master was Wayne. He did a great job training my daughter and her boyfriend. He is very knowledgeable, extremely passionate about diving and clearly enjoys what he is doing. He took the time to educate us on the local diving environment, oversaw that our equipment was properly set up and took time before the dive to explain things to us that he would later point out on the dive. When you have a DM like this, you get so much more out of a dive.In summary, I would definitely recommend Captain Hooks. I will most certainly give them a call on my next dive. The staff seemed happy, facilities were very nice, rental equipment in good working order and customer service was excellent.

The best place in Marathon hands down! Ive been coming to Hooks for at least 10 years and it just gets better every year! Thanks again for your hospitality with the bachelor party this past weekend and OMG those amazing cookies! This place has everything from beer, bait, boats, COOKIES, gear, wardrobe, snacks, snorkeling, an amazing aquarium, this list could go on forever because they literally have everything. Went on a trip today and these guys are awesome. The captain, the crew, the whole bunch. We had a great time and look forward to going out with them again.

This a great place to gas up the boat, get some bait, fill the coolers with ice, grab any tackle you may need and stock up on drinks for the day. It’s a one stop shop for your fishing needs. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the local area, too.

The staff is friendly, but there are significant scheduling issues that can lead to open water certification being carried out in the canal instead of the ocean.

My husband and I completed our rescue diver training with Brad this week. The course was rigorous, as it should be. The crew showed a true passion for their industry, and even the Captain gave excellent feedback on our boat rescue drills. Dive briefings and safety was top notch on each boat. Weve been with over 25 dive operations, and this team has it right. If you are seasoned, they see it, and conditions are solid, you can dive your own plan. Otherwise, they take diligent care underwater of everyone.

Captain Mike, Cynthia and Joshua and one other fellow were excellent crew for our diving in Marathon Key. We couldnt ask for a better Team. Captain Mike took us to a very special location spite the weather conditions to give us a wonderful time, all along with a lovely boat side maners and incredible music. I had trouble on the first dive being underweighed and Cynthia, the dive master, was very helpful and nice going back and forth to the boat to try different size weights to fit in my pocket and to ensure I had the correct weight. Also my husband thought he lost his GoPro in the dive only to find it magically in the boat because Joshua and Mike rescued it when they saw the camera floating on the ocean and swam to get it while we were still diving. They are unbelivable! Everyone in the shop is friendly and caring. The boat is very large pantoon so there is plenty of room for social distancing and everybody tries to comply with the COVID restrictions. Thanks for a great experience and we absolutely recomended Captin Hook Dive Center and well be back soon. The reef is exceptionally beautiful and full of coral and fishes. Awesome!

We dove out of the Marathon location in June 2020. We did 4 days with a total of 8 dives. The dive staff was friendly and a lot of fun. Would highly recommend.

This was my first dive ever in the keys as a certified diver.staff was exellent vary friendly girls were beautiful. and know there stuff this was also my first dive with my zeagle bravo. captain mike was funny as hell. me my mom and dad had a great Time.it was my dads birthday.although visibility was fair and not perfect.we enjoyed it i will deffinitly come back hopefully next time the water will be calm and it will be just a little breezy.and visibility will be exellent respect and love from the ironside..you guys keep up the good work

Steer clear of this place!! The twerp filling tanks was extremely rude and refused to fill ANY tank we had with AIR simply because the tank had a nitrox sticker!! The staff told me that it was industry standard and dangerous and therefore won’t fill a nitrox tank with air but promptly blamed OSHA, then I told them I am a VIP Instructor & OSHA rep. When I asked to speak to the owner, I was brought to a woman I got the same story, but she eventually backpedaled and said “my shop, my rules”! We had already dropped a few hundred with this shop between fuel & air fills in 2 days.. we have 2 weeks left and they won’t be getting any more if our business.
