Extremely disappointed in spending the money for geotechnical testing for our new home. Had soil samples done to test for clay to see if we could build on the soil. The 3 boring tests done on the property by American Engineering Testing told us that there was clay to build on that was 12 feet down. This meant that we could still build on the soil but would have to pay a few thousand in soil corrections potentially because of the depth. Fast forward to digging of the hole and the entire soil is pretty much black dirt, NOT CLAY! Because of this, we have to now spend $40,000 on putting piers into the foundation. We thought okay, spend a couple thousand on soil testing to avoid buying and building on a lot that would require expensive corrections. Well, the boring tests that were done by this company were incorrect and now we are not only having to pay $40,000 dollars to be able to build on the lot but still have to pay for the soil samples. Disappointed that engineers even offer a test that is not scientific and does not represent the conditions of the area.
