Got my hair colored by T and although she wasn’t familiar with styling my hair texture…she defined my curls beautifully!!! My hair color was very different from what I originally wanted but it’s still lovely! The ambiance was great and customer service was even better!Update!! A month later and my hair is extremely brittle and broken off. My hair was definitely over processed resulting in bald spots all over my head

I go to The Vault and Kari always takes incredible care of me. She listens to what it is I want while also providing great insight with her skill and experience. We just have a lot of fun and I always leave happy

She takes the time to walk me through what we’re going to do, she’s so friendly and makes sure I’m completely satisfied with my color and cut. Plus she has a fun personality that makes going to the salon enjoyable!Marianne is super sweet, funny, and does a wonderful job at making me feel comfortable! I was so nervous about getting a Brazilian, but shaving breaks me out SO bad and I knew I needed to try something else for some time now. I finally bit the bullet and tried our sugaring with Marianne. And wow am I happy that I did!! She made the experience so comfortable and easy. Not having to even worry about shaving is great, and the results of more fine and sparse hair in between appointments is mind blowing! Ive been having my hair cut by Mindy, here at Gaia, for about 7 years now and I cant believe its taken me this long to write a review because this place is AMAZING. There is no other salon in Manhattan that even comes close to the quality of cut, customer service, and overall experience like Gaia does.This is the kind of salon where you should go if you want your hair to be cut CORRECTLY. So, it will be a little more $$, but being able to walk out of a salon with a hair cut that I love is SO worth it. The one time that my hair cut seemed to be a little off, I called in and told them, and Mindy fixed it to be perfect once again - the next day - free of charge!! Gaia prides themselves on continually educating their stylist on the latest trends + cuts. I love knowing that Im supporting a business that cares as much for its employees as it does for its clients.In regards to some of the negative reviews, its not wildly overpriced. You get a quality haircut that looks better for much longer than others. They will gladly tell you the prices up front if its that big of deal. Secondly, if you have a problem with the haircut itself - tell them not Google reviews!!! Seriously, they will fix it.This is a gem in Manhattan and you should totally treat yo self to the TLC they offer. Thank you Mindy + Gaia! You guys rock :)

My haircut was perfect, my hair color was perfect, as usual. All the stylists are wonderful and they constantly upgrade their training. I have lived in Manhattan for 48 years and have tried nearly every salon in town. None of the others can touch Gaia for quality and caring, expert service. My hair is superfine and I am 70, so it is difficult to cut and style. Gaia is the only salon that has made my hair look great every time. When I have to travel out of state, I am always disappointed. I love the neck massages with essential oils and the warm towels and the beautiful results. Two reviews complained about the prices. Well, Gaia is more than worth every penny. I am not a wealthy person, but nice looking hair is crucial to me. Gaia gives me that and more every time. I recommend this salon to everyone.

Salon that accepts guys. They give a head massage to put you to sleep and dont even make you talk during your cut. Great job and not overly girly. Although it does cater to more of the feminine side.

The level of professionalism is amazing. When you walk you feel like you are super important, and every designer really knows their stuff. I ended up getting hair products there as well and they are fantastic and smell amazing. There is no other salon that has the atmosphere that Gaia does.

I wish I could give more stars. I just had a Brazilian blow out done here and it looks absolutely amazing. The staff was knowledgeable and very caring. They made sure Ik what was happening during the process and made me feel comfortable every step of the way.

I recently had my hair colored/cut by Christine. She did an AMAZING job.... I had some poorly done highlights a few months ago by another salon here in town, and she was able to correct it and make my blonde hair a more natural shade. She was so kind and knowledgeable about what she was doing. Highly recommend!

I used the website to book a last minute appointment with Danielle for a haircut while visiting my daughter in Manhattan. I was so pleased with my haircut and the welcoming atmosphere at the salon that I am looking forward to coming back to Gaia the next time I am in town.

Wonderful experience. just visited the area on vacation and salon was recommended. I cannot say enough god things about how excellent all the services were. They immediately attend to your needs ad take the greatest car to give you a cut and style just a requested. I was most amazed because generally when I travel, the salons I have visited have not taken the time to cut my hair the way I really want it it done. This salon is outstanding in their customer care.

Ive had my hair styled all over the world by some of the best in the business. This place is in the top 3. Im very demanding, and once I find a stylist I like, I stick with that person. In fact, I used to fly to Dallas every 6 weeks just to get my hair cut and styled. But I dont have to any longer. Ive found Penny at Gaia. Ive never before returned to a salon the day after having my hair styled to buy the products the stylist used because my hair looked so great I just wasnt going to wait until Id run out of the products I had at home. This place is that good.

I rarely (meaning maybe not even once a year) go to hair salons, I never leave happy. When we (my husband and I), entered the salon, we were promptly greeted, the inside of the salon was very clean and well organized. I just wanted a trim, I was taken back to get started. I loved the scalp massage, the shampoo tingled (good tingle lol) and conditioner treatment smelled lovely, with a hot towel. Long story short I LOVE how my hair looks, feels and smells. Ill be going back as long as were stationed here!

Im coming back here whenever I have an event! Danielle did a wonderful (and patient!) Job on my uncooperative hair, it feels so soft and voluminous yet silky! I learnt quite a few tips from her too, how to keep my hair looking good without servicing them. And so hospitable! Love Gaia!

I went in for a free haircut and dye, I went in for the haircut that was in February and they told me that the hair dye was going to have to be in April because the hairdresser had more schooling. They said that they would give me a call to set up an appointment when it gets closer to April. Well that was a flat lie they never called me and when I went in to set the appointment they told me that part of their training was over and their not doing that now. I understand that it was all free and I shouldn’t complain buts it’s the principle behind the fact. They are not good for their word. I will never go back and I will tell everyone I know to never go there.

I came here to get my eyebrows and lip waxed, I also got my eyebrows tinted. I specifically told the lady to leave the shape of my eyebrows the same and just get the stray hairs and I was so disappointed in all of it. She made my eyebrows way too far apart and didn’t even get the unwanted hair off around my eyebrows or off my lips! She took the hair I wanted and left the unwanted hairs. I mean it’s 2019, eyebrow ladies should learn the right way to do eyebrows and not make them thin and far apart. I gave this place a second chance and I’m sad to say they still suck.

Absolutely loved this place! I went to get my hair fixed from what another salon had done and I could not be more pleased with my hair!!! The girl who cut my hair was very nice and was able to fill in the blanks where my knowledge was lacking when it comes to asking what I want with my hair. I probably wont go anywhere else ever again!

Christine is the best! I have been going to Christine for all my hair needs for several years now, and it only made sense to have her help me on my wedding day too! She travelled to our getting ready location to do my hair, my mom’s, and my sister’s. She did an absolutely amazing job with all three of our updos. She even helped style my two candlelighters’ hair when she finished with ours. If you go to Gaia, request Christine!

Im not going to lie, I left here very unimpressed. I have thick eyebrows that I really like with a shape that I love, and Gaia waxed and trimmed away a ton of it. I tried to explain the shape I wanted, but I guess it didnt get across. I am just really disappointed and I dont like the way they look at all. I wasnt going to post anything, until I got home and realized they had left wax still on my eyelid, and my roommate had to peel it off.The service was friendly, but I wont be returning. $18+ tip was far too much to spend on this. I am very disappointed and am looking forward to my eyebrows growing back in. Until then, guess I have to go buy eyebrow powder to make up the difference.

I followed Mary to Gaia many years ago and am still a loyal customer. I have trouble with all of the perfumes in the hair products and coloring agents, but they have worked with me to get me in there as early in the day as possible to reduce what Im exposed to.Mary introduced me to STRAIGHTENED HAIR and WOW, what a treat! Having always had coarse, curly, kinky hair, this was the treat of my life...and shes made my grey hair just magically go away!Very nice people that treat customers with respect and attention to their needs. The kind of customer service that is hard to find these days. Love it!

Well, that was disappointing. Couldnt even get an appointment. The girl on the phone was not very friendly or even acting like she wanted my business and was mumbling half the time. I was looking for a cut and color. I work two jobs and only have two evenings off a week. She couldnt get me in the next day (Wednesday) which I was fine with, short notice. I asked about Friday (three days out), she said nothing was available. Wanted me to come in at 9:30am. I work from 8am-5pm. Told her that wouldnt work. Then wanted me to come in at 6pm. I told her I didnt want to hang around town that long after work (again, I work a full time and part time job, both in Manhattan and I live in JC). Thats when the conversation pretty much stopped. She didnt even offer me anything for the following week. I understand that I have limited availability, and for that reason, I do not mind having to wait a week or two to get an appointment that fits my schedule, but nothing was even offered to me. It seemed like when she asked me if I had ever used boxed color on my hair, which I replied that I hadnt in over two and a half years, thats when her voice became hesitant and she put me on hold for a few minutes. I will take my business elsewhere. People just dont understand that the person who answers the phone has so much control over the business and whether or not people spend money there.

I visited Gaia Salon to buy a shelf product for my girlfriend as a gift. After finding a better gift elsewhere, I brought back the product and asked for a refund. The employee politely informed me that the salon does not allow refunds. Although businesses are not legally required to have a return policy, I would expect a business which prides itself on customer service and hospitality to have something as simple as a return policy. Customers should NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM HERE unless you know it is absolutely, without a doubt what you want. There is no sign in the store that says returns are not accepted. I regret trusting this business with my business.

Ive gone to Gaia on and off over the last 15 years, and Ive never been really happy with them, but this last time was the last straw. Firstly, its way overpriced. When I went to an Aveda salon in Lawrence (Headmasters) it was $10 less than Gaia and a better cut. The last time I went, I felt bullied into a haircut I didnt really want after having the haircut I wanted called emo (seriously? Is that even a thing anymore? All sorts of people can rock an undercut.) and being told that she would keep it feminine. I felt absolutely insulted. Im not a really feminine woman and like (and look good with) androgynous hair. I just felt really judged. Dont go here if you want something different or are atypical in your gender presentation. Find a hairdresser who will help you look like how you feel to be.

I absolutely love Gaia Salon Spa! Youll find an upscale salon and day spa in the heart of downtown Manhattan KS! This place strives on excellent client care going above and beyond to pamper their clients. My favorite services are their skincare services - their estheticians are very professional and their spa services leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed. As you enter youre greeted with a warming smile and a glass of water or tea. Hair cuts and color include a scalp and neck massage -- where else are you going to get that! All that said Im pretty picky as Im also an esthetician and massage therapist myself and this by far is my favorite spa to indulge in some much needed pampering!

I love this salon and I love having Andrea as my stylist! I had been keeping my thick, curly hair short and thinned out for years because I simply didnt know what to do with it otherwise. When I grew it out, my loose curls just became a frizzy mess, and it was too thick to straighten and still get to work on time. Andrea introduced me to the diva cut and the right products, and everything changed! Now, I have long, thick hair with loose waves that behaves exactly how I want it to. I never thought Id say this, but - I love my hair! Thank you, Andrea!

First time I went in, it was a great experience. I went in for a hair cut and I LOVED it. The lady who did my hair was great and the salon had a great ambience. The second time I went in, I went in for a brow waxing and it was a horrible. Just awful. My eye brows were shaped beautifully but the skin underneath was ripped off and raw. The following day I called the salon to see if there was some kind of ointment I could put on my burning skin. They were polite and apologetic and told me to tell the waxer to next time use hard wax because I probably have sensitive skin... Who knew the skin below your eyebrows were so sensitive!.. The third time I went in to Gaia, I went in for another brow waxing in hopes of the place redeeming itself. I asked the lady to keep my brows thick and if she could just clean them up a bit. At the end of our session she hands me the mirror and shows me my new set of brows. I was very VERY disappointed. My once thick set of brows were plucked and waxed down to half their width. They lost their shape and are now slightly uneven. Im super bummed about this place. The staff is sweet and great. The hair cutting and styling is amazing. JUST DONT GO HERE FOR BROW WAXING!!

Bottom line: In the end I paid $75 and $15 tip and I didn’t get any tips from her on products or styling, I got a styling, I would have rather not gotten and I didn’t get the bangs I wanted.Expectation: I came based on my friend’s recommendation and the reviews online. She told me that you come in they give you a choice between 3 scents for a scalp massage, they discus with you about the haircut and make their recommendation and afterwards they recommend products, they give tips on how to style your hair and they give you a goodie bag. And to top it off she got her hair styled for free with the first visit, she wasnt sure if that was standard and it wasnt something I read in any other review nor did I care very much for it, because I don’t like to have heating products or hairspray in my hair after a cut.Experience: My hairdresser was super pleasant and she took her time with the consultation and I went with her recommendation. The cut in it self was fine because it was basically a very small trim. I did have my baby, who stayed in his stroller the entire time and was relatively good and not in the way. However, the rest of the experience was not as expected. I didnt get to chose from 3 scents and the massage was like 5 seconds, which is obviously a not a giant deal what so ever. I didn’t get a goodie back which is also whatever. But what really upset me is that I did emphasize that I wanted my bangs a very specific way and I showed her many pictures, they didnt fully turn out that way. She didnt show me how to style or blow-dry them to get the effect I wanted. She didn’t recommend any products. But what upset me most is that She asked me if I wanted my hair straightened or curled and I said do I need to and she said yes we require it for all first time clients. I said it was up to her, she said she had just purchased a new curling iron and she wanted to try it and I said that’s fine. However, I got charged for it! And I would have rather know that would have been the case! I would have said no I don’t want to. I told her that I maybe moving next year and I feel like because she wasn’t going to have me as a long time customer, she just wasn’t fully into it. Even when they came around to make the upcoming appointments, her first response to the girl was she isn’t going to be here next year. And I said I really want to grow my hair long and thick so I’ll get cuts more often if that helps and she laughed and said ok then every 12 weeks, didn’t give me a recommendation on how to grow my hair long and strong. I love Aveda products and I told her that.

The cost is outrageous and to pay $25 for a 3 minute hair consultation was unacceptable regardless of the fact they discount it from your later hair appointment. It would have cost upwards of $170 for a cut and color including tax and tip AND that $25 discount. YIKES!Id rather head to Tease Salon for a cut and color for $130.
