Highly Recommend!!!! I have been looking for a black hair salon for awhile for me and my 13 year old daughter. My hair is currently in a bad state due to wearing wigs for over 15 years and poor management. When I went to this salon, the stylist not only spotted why my hair was in such a bad state, but immediately worked on an action plan for my future hair care. I had given up on ever wearing my real hair out in public, but after just 1 visit, I am hopeful that I will be wearing my natural hair in the near future.My daughter, on the other hand, has been scared to go to a hair salon due to her very tough texture. However, my daughter was so pleased when she got her hair done and was shocked by how the stylist was able to maneuver through her hair. And as the stylist finished my daughter’s hair, she was already formulating a way to help loosen my daughter’s hair and thinking about products that would her.Outside of amazing hair care experience is a great woman of character. The stylist was so kind and made me feel like I had known her for forever. Great experience!

I brought my 15 year old daughter here today for a deep condition, trim, and flat iron. My daughter is biracial and Joana gave me advice on how to properly care for her hair. She is very nice person and showed me some natural products that would work well for her hair type, taking her time to explain when and how often to use them. Her salon was very clean and she appears to be the only one working in the salon. I will DEFINITELY be back.

I had an appointment at 4:30. I arrived at 4:20. The sign on the door says wait for your appointment and someone will get you. 4:39 arrives and no one has come to get me, but 2 other stylists have come to get their clients. I call, no answer so I leave a message. 4:50 and still nothing so I call and text, no answer to either. 5:05, still sitting outside so I call again, no answer. 5:15pm, Im leaving. I live 1hr away, made this appointment days ago, confirmed in email, and no customer service...hell, service at all at this point.

Joanna makes my unruly wavy thick out of control hair like silk. And it lasts 2 entire weeks after she styles it. She takes her time to gently style it and put rich conditioners in my hair. I love my hair and she is a lovely lovely person.

I had been looking for a salon near me to do cornrows or senegalese twists and had been looking for some time. I called multiple shops that either did not have Saturday hours (what the heck is that about), did not answer the phone or did not sound friendly when I did get an answer. I am not a last minute person but found myself down to the wire. I changed my search criteria on google and found Avalon Beauty Salon. When I called, Joana was so kind and amenable. Luckily, she had just got a cancellation a moment before and was able to get me in the very next morning (must have been meant to be). She allowed me to send her pictures so she could give me quotes. The best part was that my appointment time was just that...my appointment time. She did not have a large amount of people waiting to be seen. She set enough time aside to work on me only...it was great! She was friendly and her shop was clean and organized. I ended up getting cornrows, but will be back for the senegalese. I highly recommend this salon. Thanks Joana! Everyone LOVES my hair.

I have been getting my hair done with Joana since I was 10 or 11, so I have been getting it done with her for the past 7 or 8 years. I don’t think I will ever go to anyone else as long as I’m living in the NoVA area. She is an amazing hairstylist and all around amazing person so if you get the chance to work with her definitely do it.

Wonderful experience ! My hair turned out excellent! The color was exactly what I wanted. Great hair and great conversation.

This woman tried to charge me and extra $45 for a wash because I had “too much hair” and $15 to blow dry. She then pulled out a cheap Walmart blow dryer and did one section and it was so painful I just left with wet hair. This place is a joke.

So let’s just say this salon is not for natural hair. There was only 1 stylist, when I got there she was already working on another client, I didn’t think that would be a problem. My hair wasn’t not washed well, I can tell she didn’t scrub my scalp well enough, I also think she didn’t use enough shampoo and conditioner. My hair is super flaky,and greasy,she also kept drying my hair with a cotton towel,I could hear my hair being ripped by the towel. I did not have a good experience. It’s sad bc you think your own ppl would understand your hair, but what I have learned over the years,no one will treat your hair the way you do. The only thing I liked about the visit was the trim she gave me, that was it. Never come back here again, I only came for the reviews to begin with.

Miss Joanne has been doing my hair for about a year now and has helped it get its health back with the treatments. She’s so professional and caring and takes the time to educate you on how to take care of your hair even out of the salon.
