I have been shopping at this store since 1980. I cant say enough good things about their employees. I should have written many five-star reviews before now, but I have to write this review today. I stopped to buy coffee on my way to church this morning. Two and a half hours later, I realized that I had paid with my debit card and asked for cash back. I had taken my coffee and receipt, but not my cash. I called the service desk to ask whether someone might possibly have turned in my cash. The employee overseeing the self-service checkouts had seen my cash and turned it in to the office. A very grateful shout-out to HOMA! You have made my birthday a very happy one and its not even noon yet. Thank you, Woodmans employees for making your store such a great place to shop.
No better place to find everything you need at affordable prices. Will never shop anywhere else.
Great prices and selection. Once in a while Ill find they are out of a certain item - especially if its on sale - but you can almost always find a suitable substitute for the same price or cheaper. The checkout person, Raegan, that helped me last Saturday at Woodmans Madison west store was very friendly and pleasant.
Nice store to buy groceries, but be aware of their rotten meet products. One to many times I had buy meets not expired and when opening it smells horrible. I will never buy any meet products from here again. 😒
Never heard of a store in 2021 that only accepts Discover credit card. To make matters worse, the ATM refused to take our several different credit cards. A very stressful experience! After getting home, we noticed that in all the confusion, we got shorted $40 in change. This has got to the worst shopping experience weve ever had. Cant wait to never come back here again!
Thursday, 4-22-21, I visited Woodmans. I was greeted warmly by the person doing security. He was standing in the area of the entrance without being a confronting presence as I entered the store. If he works Thursdays on a regular basis, I may choose to show up on that day.I appreciate this employee owned store. It is very busy most any time I have ventured to shop there. As a senior, seeking low population/exposure time I have gone early in the morning. This morning I was met by a security person standing in the entrance looking like he was on full alert. Really, do you need to present an intimidating presence to the senior population shopping in this store? I recommend sensitivity training for all guards. There are ways to do the job of protection without coming across as a threat. Other than this guard, the workers were friendly and polite. Additional comment: If you are the ecologically conscious shopper and bring your own bags, between 9pm-6am: You will be TOLD (not asked) to leave them at the courtesy desk. They will sit on the counter in full access of anyone walking by and be vulnerable to contamination from contact with the counter. I am washing mine, now that I am home. I do not wish to risk bringing home unknown contaminants.
Woodmans, I love you but enough is enough. You cant beat the prices at woodmans, but when nearly all of the products I buy here are rotten, its not worth it. The woodmans shopping experience is very much an independent adventure. No employees exist past the check outs and the signage is lacking (except for the garlic). The app, at one time was helpful, but the most recent update has rendered it useless. The layout of the store, and woodmans in general, is really something you have to experience in person. Its a small city of a groceries and the Milwaukee st location could use some improvements. Its best to avoid the produce. They generally are out of stock of some produce and If they do happen to have it in stock, it is going to be moldy and rotten. If you do, by sheer luck, find things you need and make it to the checkouts be ready for a nice long wait. Cashiers are going extinct and thus you will be forced to use the dreaded error-ridden self checkouts. Supposedly, there is an employee to help with the self checkouts. I question if this individual exists on many grocery trips. Its truly a do-it-yourself experience. Also, to the poor souls who get oil changes here. You, my friends, have a lot of faith in humanity to trust your car to be cared for by the mechanics at Woodmans East. Let the state of the grocery store be indicative of how the oil change would go.
Woodmans (there are two in Madison) is one of the largest groceries here. They seem to pride themselves in their fresh produce & veggies; and have an entire aisle for the exotic foods & ingredients from other countries; their dairy section is extensive. They basically have everything.
Woodmans has a decent size selection. Quality is not always ideal, but where they really fail is service. Madison has some great grocery selections. Some of the best service I have ever received was from Festival.Woodmans employees act as though a question is totally out of scope for their job. Ive asked about products that were previously sold in this store and employees will not make an attempt to help. Or they have no idea where an item is located.
Theres something to be said about a business that can keep employees for over 25 years. One of these employees is Mary in the bakery at the Eastside Woodmans. I was looking for a treat for my Mom and she recommended a locally made cookie, that my Mom absolutely loved. Thanks Woodmans!
Came looking for beer to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (I am Irish, family tradition). After wandering around the store for 20 minutes, I finally found a worker and asked where I could get beer. Instead of directing me or telling me an aisle, he pointed and said “that way, but they won’t serve you if you’re not wearing a mask”. After showing him a doctor note saying I can’t wear a mask due to frequent episodes of passing out, he said “doesn’t matter, have to wear a mask”. Not helpful, and not very focused on serving your customer’s needs. Be assured, I will not be coming back.
I saw that woodmans has recently changed its mask policy that fully vaccinated individuals can shop without a mask and that masks are recommended now so I’m not sure why you are still employing a security guard to sit at the entrance and accost and harass anyone who is not wearing a mask your policies are very confusing one week I go and the sign now says masks recommended and I see other people shopping without a mask peacefully and then I come back a week later and now the sign says required again and you have a security guard harassing customers if you are going to have a policy then stick to it
Dont go on a Sunday night. The organic produce looks like its looted. Not mixed greens left. I have this problem all the time because I go after work or on my way back to town after the weekend. It doesnt matter which location, all Madison locations have this problem.
UPDATE: I appreciate getting a response from management. Tried again and had a much better curbside pickup experience. All of my interactions with curbside pickup staff have been very positive. Will update after I try it a few more times.* * *Tried curbside pickup and stopped in the liquor store for the first time. 2/5 employees wore their masks below their noses... Even worse than the customers doing it because staff are breathing into the air all day long. Did not make me feel safe. Plus the craft beer prices were the same as at the small local liquor stores, so I wont be back.Writing this review while still waiting for my curbside pickup to be ready... I arrived at the beginning of my window, and its been 50 minutes. Never again.
They have everything here & super fast check out. The trick is to find a time when its a little less busy
Nice store, specially for Latinx. You can find almost everything you like there!!
This Woodmans And The Sun Prairie Locations the employees at the gas station/Quick Lube Give Wonderful Service Every single time! Keep it up!
Shop at Woodmans all the time but I must say their produce can be hit and miss .Good merchandise mix and prices in the liquor store.
Ive shopped at Woodmans East since they opened many years ago. Due to the pandemic, I tried ordering my groceries online and picking them up. The first time, there was a 40 minute wait which I found excessive. My order was missing 2 items that I was charged for. When I complained, they promised reimbursement which never happened.I decided to try again since Ive been a customer there for so long. This time, the wait was over an hour. I texted, phoned, and finally stopped one of the staff as she was delivering to a car that arrived 50 minutes after me. I finally got my order. Frozen items half thawed. Expiration date very close on several items.Thats it for Woodmans. There are many better stores out there who will at least pretend to appreciate my patronage.
Shop here each week. Pretty good price wise, and they always have what Im looking for.
Good variety and quick in-and-out.
Always busy it seems, but I find what Im looking for at reasonable prices. 😀
All the employees at least 95% of them are the best 😂
The Shop Woodmans manager at the East side location is amazing. I created an order for pick-up and they forgot to include my fridge and freezer items. I called when I got home and they sent a Door Dasher to my house with the remaining groceries. She made what was a slight inconvenience into an extremely pleasant interaction and I will order from this location again because of her!
Huge store with a great selection. Liquor store is massive too.
Great selection, very reasonable prices. My preferred grocery store.
*Update* I called corporate to figure out what was going on since I never heard from anyone and was told by the woman there the check was mailed out a week ago to my OLD address.. I didnt even get a call from anyone apologizing for all the mess the shady oil change caused and they didnt even bother to check if my address was current. Just sent a check out. I dont recall the ladys name at corporate but she was very unprofessional.*Went in at the end of August for an oil change. The service technician over filled the coolant and unfortunately I am not car savvy so I wasnt aware until my vehicle started shaking violently while going 70 mph on the expressway 2 hours into Illinois . We ended up pulling to the side as safely as we could and waited for a minute. Started driving again for it to start shaking again minutes down the busiest road Ive ever been on. We ended up pulling over again and calling for a tow. The tow truck driver came and told us we were leaking coolant, opened the hood and saw that we were way over the max line for coolant to be filled at . Unfortunately because we were still 40 minutes from our destination my roadside assistance only covered part of the tow. It cost $200 to get our vehicle to a safe place . Id like to also point out since Covid we are not allowed to ride along with the driver so my family of 5 were stranded for 2 hours until we could figure out a way to get us all to where we were going safely.I have been waiting for corporate to call me for 3 weeks. I have spoke to numerous managers at Woodmans East and I have gotten know where. I have heard other horror stories recently from others about the oil change services after I shared my story with my friends. Clearly there is a service technician there that should NOT be working there .
They dont really care about customer safety. I have had more than one instance of obnoxious and violent behavior directed toward me by another customer and they didnt care. The last instance was 2 nights ago, and I have complained. I will be talking to the GM Dan on Monday. If we cannot reach a resolution, I will be taking it up with corporate and also a lawsuit. Zero stars!
Not impressed with security guards harassing essential workers to get in!
This is a huge grocery store where you can find just about anything. I used to shop here all the time, but it just got too big for me. Now I shop mostly at Aldis. However, you cant beat the prices and the selection. I still shop here for specialty items like rice crackers and dried tomatoes that you cant get at Aldi. Just beware that this is a busy place on a Saturday.
Like the selection for Keto / Carnivore. Snack sticks, pork rinds heavy whipping cream, etc.
Oil change place closes whenever they feel like it apparently, was hoping to get a quick oil change but apparently getting there 30 minutes before closing isnt soon enough. If you close at 6pm say it somewhere.Edit: just read some reviews... sounds like them closing early saved me, just get it done somewhere else.
I like this shop, has lots of different products, very kind employees.
Has almost all the things we need. I do wish it stocked skim Lamers milk, but 1% isnt so bad.
Well stocked. Very clean.
Nicely spaced following safety protocol...
I love woodmans for grocery shopping in general but this location in particular is always well stocked, the employees are very nice, and overall very clean!
5 star beer selection!
Great place for groceries, just watch some produce, looks great on the outside, inside rotten. Nice variety of things. Could use more cleaning and friendlier staff, so I always check myself out but in doing so I feel like I have 20 pairs of eyes on me at every move, which I can understand, but Ive been coming here for years and have spent thousands of dollars.
My iphone disappeared here its a white iPhone 7 in red OtterBox case
In 43 yrs of using ATMs I have always received what I requested from my bank account, with the exception of 2 TIMES! WOODMANS IN SUN PRAIRIE, WI and WOODMANS WEST SIDE in MADISON, WI! Like what the heck?? If this happened to me twice, I know this has happened to others. I just hope you noticed you were shorted before it was too late! No wonder their ATM is FREE, instead they short you $20 which is the highest ATM fee I have ever heard of. Count your money 5 times before walking away from their ATMS. In fact, go spend that extra $2 the gas station ATMS charge, atleast you know your getting what you asked for.
Good selection- (too many choices for cereal) Check use by dates! I dont buy meat there, but I get the rest of my groceries there. Great staff!
I love this store!
Best prices by far.
Woodmans is amazing. First of all, youll be shocked by the prices; the company is employee-owned, and this makes a great impact for the consumer. Some name-brand products are even a few dollars cheaper than the same products at Walmart! The supermarket has great deli and bakery products, and almost everything you could ask for at a grocery store is in stock. The store is nicely organized, which makes navigating its large size and makes grocery shopping in general, that much easier. They also do a great job of providing plenty of organic food and health/beauty products in their stores.
Big store omg
This places is terible
Favorite grocery store by far. Best liquor store around and good prices on everything. I usually get chicken at other stores because it send they never have deals on fresh chicken but best prices around for everything else.
Owner is nice. Some good prices. If I had to rate them on their produce I would only give 2 stars. Havent had very good luck with their fruit, rots quickly. Unlike other grocery stores. Quickly means the 2nd day or its rotten already at store (for examples strawberries).
Good prices for meats and the liquor store is well stocked. Produce is dismal and store is often dirty. Very difficult to find someone to help you.
Amazing selection and prices
I love that place
Lowest prices and great variety of products
Good layout and well stocked. Meat prices are generally better elsewhere, but good savings are available on pretty much everything else.Checkouts are staffed to minimize waiting and there is a 20 or fewer checkout and also several self-service checkouts.
What can I say, Woodmans is THE place to do your big shopping. Prices are good and the variety is vast! The only real down fall is checking out. this is due to the high volume of customers thinking the same thing I am... dont get me wrong, the cashiers are efficient as hell and good at their job. Curbside pickup is great, and the parking lot is huge. Overall, the place for savings.
Good location. Good parking. Nice staff. Prices are very good. Quality of the products are very good too.
Wow is this store huge! Looks tiny from the outside. Incredible selections. Why is the Rockford location so lame compared to this one, I dont know, size wise that is. I absolutely love the lack of the belt system! I wish every store had this. Cashiers, turbo speed, awesome. Also like the fact, that you can ask for an item and they will order it for you. The drive up is really nice except for middle of the week drive up kid, loading your bags in Rockford, absolutely the WORST! Breaks your eggs. Keeps piling bag on top of bag. Should be fired, bad attitude on top of it...
An excellent grocery store. Set aside enough time for a grocery adventure, and then go to Woodmans for the best prices AND the best selection. All departments are impressive, but perhaps most of all the liquor section, for some reason. The weird frosting my mom likes? Only at Woodmans. My new favorite energy drink? Only at Woodmans. The gluten-free flatbread my girlfriend likes? Only at Woodmans. You get the idea.Easy to find, easy to park, and they seem to have plenty of those mobility-assist scooters. It seems like the employees are treated reasonably well. The place is clean, it feels safe and well lit. Just dont go there if youre trying to be quick...Im not affiliated with Woodmans at all, and I never have been. Im just a fan.
This was my first time to Woodmans and I will be back the heat time Im in Madison. Over if the best produce selections I have ever seen, anywhere. Great cheese and bread options as well. Just remember this place is DEBIT ONLY. Im not sure what signs they have up for this, but they didnt catch my attention or my wifes, so others likely miss it as well. Thankfully we each carry a debit card so it wasnt as problem.
Every food item I could EVER want or imagine, I find here! Except a deli area, I LOVE this store! Friendly and helpful staff in every department. More varieties of cheese than I knew existed. Smoked fish, cheesy bread, and an extensive gluten free section! I wish they had a store in Nashville, TN! I visit every time I visit Madison. Affordable prices too.
Really good 😃
The atmosphere in the store was one of casual independence. Selected a large shopping cart and proceeded to the produce section. Examined the reduced-price produce and bought two bunches of celery for 99 cents. Passed through the meat aisle without buying any. Circled around to the cereal aisle and bought some oatmeal. Next purchase was flour, then some canned tuna and coffee. Discovered taco sauce on sale with a coupon, and bought two. Went to the dairy section next, and selected a gallon of ice cream, a pound of butter, three containers of processed cheese which were on sale, and a gallon of skim milk. Proceeded to the self-checkout lanes, scanned each item, placed each in a carry- home bag, and paid the total with a debit card. Left the store, placed my purchases in my car, and drove home.
Wonderful
Best selection of any store that I have been too. I try to describe this to people by saying, I think that they have 20 balsamic vinegars. I stopped to count and there were 21. There are over 100 SKU’s of mustard. The selection in the liquor store is unbelievable. The stores are starting to get a little cluttered.
My Dad works here and its a mix of amazing and I want to quit my job. Woodmans has all the needs and you should go here. But yall should never work here ever, sorry to break it to ya.
Its a fine grocery store. Nothing fancy just low prices and an excellent selection. Though the small personal frozen pizzas have gotten outrageously expensive. Also forced to buy the largest size Natural Bliss coffee creamers now! The smaller sizes took a huge price jump. The store is clean on the inside. The outside could be cleaner and less trashy by the entrance. Overall OK.
Great prices and an absolutely huge selection. The downside is that weekends are absolutely insane! Id recommend planning your visit for a weekday or using their app to order online for curbside pickup. They also dont accept credit cards (debit cards are okay).
My family for generations have been shopping here and we love the selection, the variety of choices and how clean the employees keep the store. I can always find what im looking for here for my kids and myself.
Love Woodmans, but this store layout is a maze.Great variety in everything- meats, cheeses, fruits, veggies. If you cant find what you need at Woodmans, you arent looking hard enough.
Ive been going here for 25 years. The place would be perfect if they could keep higher quality produce in stock. Sadly woodmans always seems to lack on the produce side of things. Great prices and availability of booze and non-perishable items though.
Woodmans East is the best market on the Eastside when it comes to price, variety, and service. While it is not as fancy as some of the other stores who waste their employees time making sure the fruits and vegetables are stacked in neat little pyramids at the entrance, the savings is passed down to the customer. It has everything you can imagine from a huge foreign foods section to fabulous bakery. It also has the convenience of an attached liquor store and nearby gas station. The perfect one stop shopping place to get your monies worth.
Open 24hrs, huge grocery store. Best selection of various brands in town. Lots of handicapped parking spots and regular parking. Carts are extra large and newer condition. They also have special carts for those with small children, and electric carts for those with disabilities. Locally owned!!
I got band lol
I can get so much more for my money at Woodmans. There really is a big price difference from other grocery stores. They have an amazing selection. (especially of FRESH produce) It can get a little crazy because so many people go there so that can be a little frustrating but the savings are worth it. The checker and the bagger were extremely nice and I really appreciated the grocery pick-up on such a cold day. Those guys were also extremely pleasant while loading my groceries and I sat in my nice warm car!
Enormous supermarket with a little bit of everything. This was recommended to me as a great place to buy beer and their adult beverage department is quite impressive. I almost left when I couldnt find the liquor department (but not without paying for my cheese curds. I was visiting Wisconsin, after all). I exited out of a different door and found the enormous liquor department which is separate from the grocery store, but in the same building. I recommend it all. Huge selection.
I like the one in Sun Prairie better, but this one is good too. Larger selection of groceries than Walmart. If you have any allergens, like gluten, I recommend shopping here.
Local grocery store competing with bigger chains. They are proving its possible. Prices are comparatively cheaper than other stores and fast and friendly staff makes your grocery shopping pleasant.
Large selection, better prices than most grocery stores and its a cooperative, i.e. worker owned - they share the profits. Keeps the income local! Best gas prices in town.
I have been a Woodmans shopper for about 21 years. I can find most everything I need and love all of the special dietary foods. The employees are generally helpful and friendly, although the self-checkout system is a little challenging sometimes. I can find really good produce and a good selection of organic items. The prices are always reasonable.
Love shopping at Woodmans market. However this one seemed different then the other stores, it was not the same flow. Had to spend a few extra minutes looking for items not located in the normal aisles.
One of the largest and most varied store in town...if you need it you almost certainly can find it here. The ethnic options are great and the liquor/beer area are beyond comprehension (need key lime pie liqueur...they have it.) The prices are pretty reasonable too.
Great selection, great prices on just about everything. Make sure you bring cash or a debit card because they dont take credit. The liquor, beer and wine selection and prices are second to none.
Overwhelming variety!!! I ended up exhausted by the end of shopping here for the first time because every section seemed to have a dozen options, many of which were local, organic, or otherwise interesting. Definitely going to be one of my main go-to grocery places, though Im packing a snack next time so I can make it through the endeavor without my blood sugar running low.
Great store lots of parking, but it can get a little congested during the weekend, and weekdays after 4pm best times to go on weekdays 9-3 and weekend 10pm+ open 24hrs guaranteed to find lowest prices on everything from food to hair care products and the biggest medicine lowest prices Ive ever seen on over the counter medicine needs, & lets just say youre selection will never run out, the only bad and reason Im rating at for stars is that because they keep such large stock of food check dates, I have gotten expired food be for but they were very kind to give me cash back when I called them and no hassle this is my favorite, find everyday low prices here were a pick n save would normally charge double for most items in store.I HOPE YOU CHECK IT OUT, & KEEP COMING BACK
Favorite Favorite. Couple rules to the wise: If you dont enjoy crowds (especially the kind that push carts around willy-nilly style), go later at night. After 8 pm, its pretty dead. The middle of the night grocery shopping can also make an interesting time. The produce is not awesome but some of us can make do. Go to the farmers market when its around or to other grocery stores as necessary. You have to have some time or know the lay out before you can quick-shop in a place like this, its just a fact. Once you get used to it, though, it definitely pays off. Also, no other liquor store in town has this kind of selection. Or prices.
Woodmans is my favorite place to go to for groceries. They are fast and efficient The employees are very fair. They also very friendly, helpful and caring. Their groceries are very affordable. They have a wide variety of groceries. They always meet my needs when I shop there.
This review is for the young Latino fellow who bagged my groceries today, his name is Mario. Mario did a great job today, and put much care into how my items were bagged. He put non-food items with non food items, and frozen items with items that needed to be refrigerated so that they would stay cold on the drive home. He even asked me if I wanted paper or plastic bags after the cashier had already asked me, maybe I changed my mind after telling her but didn’t want to be difficult, he gave me an opportunity to change my mind. He did everything quickly, and he was polite. My first job ever was bagging groceries at the Copps on Aberg (it’s a Pick ‘n’ Save now) and that’s one of the jobs that’s lowest in the totem pole. It’s easy not to put much effort into your job when you’re in a position like that, but he does. Good job Mario and I know none of the employees or managers will see this since it’s on google and not the company website, but the website doesn’t allow for specific comments, just a fill in the bubble. I hope Mario gets moved up to a cashiers position soon, or at least gets a raise. He deserves it!!
This is a great super market with a wide variety of selection. I always find just about everything I need. Only very seldom do I not find someting I am looking for and for a very affordable price. I highly recommend shopping here. Plus its employee owned!
Cant live in Madison and not appreciate Woodmans. Its far from perfect but the prices are fair, they have great organic products that are affordable and treats from around the world I cant find anywhere else. Just make sure you check expiration dates when buying!
My go to store. Big selection of items, great prices. Been a customer for many years.
