The team here is awesome and helpful! When I first moved to Madison I used their service and immediately found them to be trustworthy, honest, and skilled as service providers. They provided fair pricing and fast service to me, as well as a loaner vehicle when I was in need. I would recommend their services to anybody looking for an awesome experience in auto care. Thanks Terry and team!
These guys are the best. Highly recommend!!! They are fast, super nice and worked with me to fix a reoccurring problem Ive had with my car for a while. Very happy with their service.
I recently had a screw stuck in my brand new Tesla tire. I had no idea who could fix and know the special needs to lift a Tesla. I found Terrys car Care online and I emailed them to see if they could help. I quickly got a response via email assuring me they were able to fix my problem. I had taken it to a national tire center the day before and they sent me away, unable to fix my issue. I made an appointment that was easy for me to make and they got me in on time. They were able to fix the tire and were very professional the entire way and provided excellent service. I had an interesting conversation while I was waiting with Will the owner. He has been in auto repair and he knows his stuff. I would not hesitate to recommend them and hopefully I do not need his service again but if I ever pick up a nail again, I would not hesitate to go back.
The most kind and professional car repair place I have ever been to. They patched my tire quickly and for a good price, will definitely return!
Dealership wouldnt service a transfer case after a bait and switch.Made an appt at Terrys for a few days later. Took about 45 minutes and they were able to vaccum and flush the case. It was about $125 which was a little under the quote. Its been about 1,000 mi since and no issues
My go-to for auto repair and service, always done well, promptly, and economically. Their new online service records and video to show their inspection and diagnosis are a pleasant surprise. And right in my hood!
I have taken my car to several Madison-area mechanics, and Terrys has been the best experience by far. When my car suddenly stopped moving in Drive and couldnt be pushed in Neutral, I figured I was going to have an expensive transmission replacement. The tow-truck took my car to Terrys at 5:30pm on a Sunday night. On Monday morning, I had a text at 8am to call and discuss diagnostic costs. After that call, I received a link to the cars inspection before noon. After reviewing the documents, I called to learn more about the timeline. To my pleasant surprise, the car was already done!Terrys quickly discovered the problem had been caused by my last mechanics brake work. They fixed the problems quickly and inexpensively. I loved the text message correspondence and the ability to review my cars inspection online. In the future, Ill always go to Terrys.
I saw a lot of good reviews for Terrys Car Care, so I took a chance on them and expected I would get great service when I came in. While the people were helpful, the quality of work was extremely disappointing. I came in to get my rear view mirror glued back on, and 2 months later it came off (after 17 years without a similar incident with this car)! I do not recommend Terrys Care Care based on the experience I had.
Awesome service and very reasonably priced. Really friendly and helpful staff. They actually care about the vehicles they work on and strive for satisfaction vs other big company shops that dont care about their customers. Theres a reason these guys have been in business for 40 some years. I do a lot of work on my cars and have been to many shops and these guys by far seem like they genuinely are doing the best at not ripping people off. Theres no bs of oh we added this and that and this as well and being hit with a big bill. They let me know everything before hand and kept me updated and informed on it and have very fair pricing. They also were really fast with my particular issue. Was able to pick up the car the same day.
Car broke down while driving in the middle of the night. AAA towed to Terrys where I had never been before. I am 100% pleased with their service and repairs. Very professional operation! I plan on taking a different car in for oil change and a look over.
My heating stopped working recently so I started searching for car care places in Madison. Terrys came up with lots of good reviews and certified ASE technicians, so I went there. Im glad I did! Robert diagnosed my heating issue immediately and I had my car back in 24 hours. The pricing was fair and I got a few other minor issues taken care of at the same time. The whole team was super friendly and made it really easy to get in touch by call or text. I will definitely come back to Terrys.
Received an oil change and a tire rotation this past week. I think the oil change, with all synthetic oil was very reasonably priced. They gave a good overview of potential problems, and all were valid, with none seeming like they were fishing for more work. I am very happy with the service! The staff was very kind. I intend to bring my cars back when service is needed!
Terrys Car Care gave me a $1,300 quote (which they charged $88 to prepare). A competitor gave me a quote for $400 less for the same work. But thats not all; when I brought the vehicle to a different repair shop, their examination of the vehicle revealed that Terrys had wrongly told me to fix a part that was in good working order, my wheel, which saved me an additional $400.All in all, I saved $800 by NOT bringing my car to Terrys Car Care. I would avoid this place at all costs.EDIT: in response to Terrys Car Cares response to this negative review, Id like to note that the competitor who serviced my car offered a similar warranty on their parts and service. Further, the mechanic who ultimately worked on my vehicle explained that whoever told me my wheel needed to be replaced had incurred serious negative karma & suggested other advice from that shop may have been bunk (which Ive since confirmed with motorhead friends). The upside is that without Terrys terrible advice and service I never would have found a mechanic that I can trust.
Quick and friendly service. My dad, who used to maintain my car, moved to AZ a few years ago and Ive been having a hard time finding a trustworthy auto mechanic since. Fortunately, I rolled into Terrys one day with a weird noise coming from my car. Terry fixed me up promptly, and days later added air to my tire, free of charge, when my light came on my dash. Oil changes have been reliable and thorough. Highly recommended.
Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and they do great work. Theyre very nice about prioritizing things for me when I cant afford to take care of everything at once.
I called first thing in the morning about getting my A/C tested and repaired. They were able to get me in the same day and complete the repairs. Great service and cost was at the lower end of the range I found online for A/C repairs. The location is very convenient if you work downtown; drop off in the morning and pick up at the end of the day.
We had our windshield wipers stolen a week or so ago and decided to take our car here to replace them. During the experience we encountered wonderful costumer service through Will, who ended up ordering a certain pair of wipers that would be compatible with our vehicle. Not only was the replacement fast, but it was cheap as well. We will absolutely be returning in the future.
Excellent customer service. I brought my car in today with multiple problems and Will and others were able to diagnose and fix the issues that day. Extremely responsive and friendly. Would recommend Terrys to anyone seeking quality car care in the Madison area.
Talked with Will on the phone, was able to bring my car in right away the day I called. I had the maintenance and check engine lights on and some issues with the engine. They changed the oil and checked everything out, kept me in the loop, and got the car back to me by the end of the day. Very courteous and friendly, great service. Will definitely go back with any car needs.
Will is the best, in a world full of big box auto options it is refreshing to go to a place that cares about getting it RIGHT. The crew at Terry’s does right by the customer and the car. Great service and good people, you won’t find that at most places.
These guys do excellent work at a fair price. They are professional and considerate, and their interest in keeping your vehicle safe and functioning properly is genuine, and theyre good at it. This is the only place I will take my car.
Beware of high prices and lies about labor hours!!! Quoted over $900 for a new battery and a starter. Paid over $200 just for the diagnosis. The battery was only 3 months old and simply needed charging. They also wanted to charge me $90 labor for the battery installation alone but failed to be honest about the fact that the battery has to be removed anyway to access the starter. Dishonest! They asked me if I was from Madison and when I said no, they said they have to charge more because of the high property cost in Madison. Hey guys at Terry’s Auto, it’s fine to charge a little more for a high cost area but not ok to lie about your mechanics billable hours. $90 labor to change a battery that had to be taken out anyway??? Come on. Try being honest about your mechanics’ actual billable hours.I completed the entire job myself for $130 in less than 2 hours.
Ive been bringing my car there here for years. I brought it in a month ago with a nail in the tire and they said they would handle if for no more than $40 bucks. At the end of the day when I picked it up it was $80. I spoke with manager to point out that he never asked me to authorize the overage and its about 2x the max they said it would be. He was not polite but ultimately did refund me back the additional $40. Brought my car in and they refused to service it. Just give people a legit quote and let me know if its going to be more than you originally thought.I am an long time customer, you looked up my account (under my wifes name) when we were on the phone together. And even if I was a new customer, is that how you would treat new business?! Terrible
While in town on vacation, my alternator died. The gentlemen at Terrys were able to see me on the same day that I called, diagnose the problem, get the necessary parts, and replace my alternator all on the same day. They charged a fair price for the service, and were polite and courteous. I highly recommend them to anyone needing a mechanic in Madison!
This place is phenomenal. Call there and you’ll likely speak to Will. He is friendly, knowledgable, and gives it to you straight. I highly recommend Terry’s and will be returning for any future car needs.
Had a great experience with Terrys. Don helped me throughout the process of getting winter tires on. Service was flexible, efficient, and transparent. It was a plus that they store your off season tires for you! Thanks again
Great customer service! Super fast work and well priced! Very happy I found this place when my engine decided to act up, couldn’t be more happy!
Will is rude and dishonest about pricing. Upon pick up wanted to charge double the quote and didn’t call to ask if the price change was acceptable.
I have been taking my cars to Terrys Car Care for decades! They are consistently excellent in their service and take great care of my cars. I highly recommend them to anyone in the Madison area, especially the UW Campus area.
Terrys Car Care staff were very helpful in trouble shooting, assessing and getting our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2005 Chevy Colorado back on the road. We appreciate Marcus and Wills professionalism and break down of our vehicles needs in order to keep them maintain and serviced. We have two other colleagues that take their vehicles to this facility, also. We will be back. Thank you and keep it up guys.
Amazing service! I took my car in to get my manifold gaskets (after previously being warned by them last time they were going out) swapped out after noticing some oil in my radiator fluid. I took it in, they noticed the spark plugs were out as well and I was able to get gaskets/plugs/coolant and oil flushed successfully. A day after I noticed residual oil left in the coolant tank (no fault of theirs) and gave a call. That day I got the car in, and was offered a full cleaning of the coolant tank, a swap of radiator hoses in addition to a new radiator cap free of charge. These people really care about their customers and are willing to do what it takes to keep your car running. I would recommend Terrys Car Care to any of my friends for a car fix.
Great local mechanic! Got my oil changed in a jiffy!
Great service and extremely competitive prices for the market in Madison. Terrys was able to get me in and out with a fixed car in no time. If Im in town again and have any car issues, this is the place I will go.
Got my oil done for 60 bucks. They said they did a 87 point inspection on the vehicle, but didnt have a printed report of that or any kind of follow up to that 87 point inspection. Lol. Asked about some spongy brakes, they said 250 to flush the brake fluid. I sat waiting for my oil to get done, and listened to the boss literally give life advice to a customer via phone on how they should not eat out or go on vacation to pay the 1,300 quote he gave them for fixing their stuff. No shade. All facts. Peace
Terrys Car Care had wonderful service as always! I had them perform a pre-purchase car examination on a used Subaru I then purchased with confidence because of the thorough vehicle examination. The folks at Terrys gave me a detailed list of things that needed immediate attention on the vehicle, what could wait, etc. Will suggested I ask the dealership to fix the things that needed immediate attention on the Subaru, and they did so. Thanks, Terrys!
I have been bringing my cars to Terrys for about 14 years now and am never disappointed (I dont use always and never very often). They were able to see what needed to be done on my new old car and complete all the work same day, which is very important to me. Financing same as cash makes it realistic to do all the work I need in one shot. Thank you guys!!! I know I can count on you
They provided great service and the owner is very nice and professional. He spent time explaining the car details with me and gave me great advice. Wonderful experience!
I was visiting Madison and my car broke down. They got me up and running quickly and treated me fairly. It would have been easy to rip me off, but they are honest. I wish I had these guys in my hometown.
Owner is very customer friendly and takes time to explain any issues with your vehicle. Prices are fair, overall good service. Other employees are the main issue, and tend to be less customer friendly.
Quoted me over double what the next shop I called charged me to re build my brakes. Just picked up my car from the other shop today and it works great after the manager on duty said he didnt see how another person could do it for less than 1k :pNice people but be wary of the pricing
I needed to replace two tires on my VW, and I called around for quotes from the big-name tire and auto repair places in the Madison area. Then I called Terrys Car Care--and SAVED OVER $100 on the same tires, including mounting and balancing! Terrys also has great customer care. I highly recommend them!
I would leave zero stars if I could. I was charged over $30 to put my car on the lift and to put on the spare because the flat tire could not be repaired. The original quote was for over $40 to patch the tire...I recently paid $7 for the same service in Stoughton. Way to take advantage of your downtown location. Congratulations to you.
I had trouble with my purchase of a new set of tires for my old sports car. My rims were damaged when the old tires were replaced. There was paint chipped off with visible tool marks on close inspection. I cannot say for sure if the rim damage was inevitable do to the condition of the old tires or my rims or not. I do know the paint on my rims was in good condition when I brought my car in.The big problem is that I was not told that the damage occurred. It was clearly visible with significant patches of paint chipped of the rims. The best thing would been if I was told there was a problem while the work was being done. Second best would been if I was told when I picked up my car. Not being told makes me think shop was trying to get away with the damage, or the Tech was not paying attention and didnt notice. I need my car treated with more respect than that.It cost me a lot to get my wheels refinished, plus I had to pay to have my new tires removed and replaced by another shop when the rims were sent out for refinishing. Also the tire pressures on the new tires were randomly set with a 20 psi difference between the front tires. `My car came back with a note that the alignment check indicated my car was out of alignment. I think setting the tire pressure to specification is part of a tire install and a alignment check.
My wife and I just moved to Madison, and I needed to find an auto-repair facility that I could rely on. I hadnt planned on looking right away, but when the dash panel of my Subaru lit up like a Christmas tree, I thought I better move quick. I picked Terrys mostly because they were downtown, and had a decent reputation. I took my car in, they diagnosed the problem, contacted me to let me know what it would cost, and I was back on the road the next day. The team at Terrys is very friendly and professional. I now take my car there for any routine maintenance and I dont think twice about it. Being a former mechanic, I know the business, and I know a lot about cars. I just dont have time to fix my own anymore. I also understand what it is like to deal with the public sometimes. In my opinion, you will get an accurate estimate, and a fair price. I trust them. On several occasions, they called me and indicated that something else needed to be fixed. Sometimes I would say go ahead, but when I told them not to repair something (brakes are getting worn, for example), they said fine and didnt make an issue about it. Since I pretty much know what things are starting to wear out on my car, I know they are not BSing me. Coming from a small town, I wasnt sure what to expect in Madison. Terrys has that feel of a small town shop where you can chat with the guys. Will and Don are great! But I ask... who the heck is Terry? :)
Terry’s helped me in a pinch. Great customer service from Will and work was done in a timely fashion. 5 star shop. Thanks!
The staff is knowledgeable, polite and efficient. They address my concerns and explain everything in detail. The price is fair, and the service theyve done on my car, has been consistently of excellent quality and reliable.
Went in to get a tire and rim replacement and I was told that replacement rims start at $200 for my Toyota Corolla. I thought this sounded pretty lofty so I decided to check rim prices on my phone quickly to confirm my suspicions. Sure enough, Corolla replacement rims started at $59.After asking the mechanic why theirs cost so much he replied, “it’s always gonna cost less if you buy it on your own. Go ahead and order one online and hope to god it fits.” Due to some surprise at his confrontational tone, I delayed my response long enough for the manager helping a customer next to me to butt in and say “sorry we cant help you” as if to say gtfo of my shop. This being the same manager who offered his 10 minuet commentary on Trump to a customer that just wanted to get his errand to the mechanic over with. After my dismissal, I took my tire to the Goodyear shop on East Washington and they gave me a replacement rim, tire, installation and tire rotation for $203. Long story short, Terry’s gets a lot of business because they are conveniently located. They have a reputation for being an expensive shop for a reason, so always get a second opinion after being quoted on a price here.
Ive being going to Terrys since 2001. I will not let any other shop work on my cars. Convenient location. Great service and fair prices.
These guys are great to work with. I really prefer them to anyone I have dealt with around town.
I was very happy with my experience at Terrys. I spoke with Will each time I was in and he was very helpful, pleasant, and informative.
My car was taken on time and finished on time. It must be a good job but I know nothing about mufflers.Ill be back.Thank you,Ann
I took my van here because of an antifreeze leak, my normal shop was booked. They said it was a water pump and that while in there I should change the timing belt. The quote ended up being 33% higher than the quote from my normal shop. The work might be good but the prices are terrible. I wont be going back unless its the only place I can get into.
These nice folks are straight shooters. They have fair prices, informative, and seem very honest. I definitely recommend them for car care needs.
I go here for oil changes, they are friendly and provide good service. Very convenient location for those who live near downtown.
**UPDATE**Today I received in the mail the most aggressive letter Ive ever received, hand signed by Mr. Will C Sparks himself. This is in response to some negative feedback I gave to AAA on their survey, essentially the same as what I wrote below. A few highlights from the letter: I am so concerned we cant meet your expectations of customer service I made a note in your customer profile so we can decline to service your vehicle should you accidentally call us again. and Instead of being happy you received services discounted over $200 you complain...we call customers like you Someone Elses customer. So, instead of taking customer feedback to improve and being appreciative for it, the President of Terrys will send you a personalized attack letter. IS THIS REALLY WHERE YOU WANT YOUR CAR SERVICED?----------------------I give them a two because at the end of the day a $20 oil change (they had a special) is pretty good and the guys were quite friendly when I called. They have the customer service part down.HOWEVER, the rest of my experience there would lead me to not go back. As a part of the oil change special they also did a bunch of free inspections (i.e. ways to find other things to get you to pay for). With my car they found three things. The windshield wipers were indeed bad, so I had them replaced for about $30, which I was fine with, though the replacements they put on seem a bit flimsy. But, the other two were ridiculous. Worse of the two was them telling me my taillight was out and it would be $35 to replace the bulb. First of all, thats a crazy high price, but worse yet is that there was NOTHING wrong with my taillight! There is a wiring problem, so since the summer my cars dashboard keeps saying the taillight is out, but if they took the two seconds to actually check if the light was working or not as I did later that night, they wouldve seen there was no problem. The fact that they just saw the message and were going to charge me $35 to fix a non-existent problem really irritates me.The second thing they said was that my brakes were 90% worn down and I should shell out $1,000 (!!!) to have them exchanged. I dont really see an issue with my brakes now, and from the research Ive done it should not cost 1 grand to replace brakes.I think their laziness on the brake light is what is going to keep me from coming here again, no matter their deal on oil changes. They are clearly not above the charge people for whatever you can get away with mentality of many auto mechanics.Ive had a great experience with American Auto on the East Side, Ill be bringing my car there if I need something again.
I went to Terrys Care Care simply because I found such a huge amount of positive comments here, but now I can also share my TRUE experiences to you.I do not know the reason for so many good to excellent comments here. And I do not question anything about their skills, they could fix your car, I am sure. But I doubt that they will give you enough information and helpful suggestions.I had my car with one part fixed, and later get similar problems! And I will not choose to come here again! Because I think I will simply cost much more on the same problem!Reasons are so simple.(1) if you check engine lights on, 100% they will charge you additional costs to turn off the lights with considerable price! Please keep in mind, guys, check engine lights on sometimes means you have big problem with your engine, BUT sometimes could be just minor problem! Of course a good reason to charge you and me is: we cost time to diagnose!, I hope they are really honest on these words.NB: I said I got similar problem happened after visiting and fixing in Terrys car care, but when I went to another place, they did not charge me anything on clearing check engine code. What a really big difference!!!(2) Friends, if you are going to there, please better check the price with some other places at first, or Google some websites to estimate your price. Terrys price may be not the highest one in Madison, but definitely, I can 10000% assure that they overcharge! and 10000% you could find much cheaper shop with good skills in Great Madison. To be fair, I must say that my experience might be just individual case, and I hope there is a misunderstanding. But I got similar comments from my friends TOO! Anyway, if you still wish to try, go there and have a visit, I will cross my fingers for you.I decided to write my own experience, since I REALLY do not feel comfortable by looking all of these recommendations based on my and my friends bad experience.
Fair prices, work done in a timely manner, great customer service. Cant ask for any better.
Been here twice. Both times they worked with me and repaired my car at a price I can afford. Great people. Only place I do business with.
Absolutely wonderful. Will, the owner, and I talked every day for a week as he diagnosed the strange problem with my car and solved multiple minor issues I had not worried about. Reasonable pricing, no pressure, great mechanics.
Way overpriced. High charge for battery install. Rude to handicapped person in need of assistance. Friendly mechanic from elsewhere happened to be nearby and came to assist at no charge. Glad to see that there are still good people out there even if theyre not at Terrys Car Care.
Fantastic mechanics. Upfront and honest
I stopped in to Terrys car care after having my oil changed at a Chain Location. I also had my tires rotated at the same chain. I spoke to Will and Ben and explained my tire sensor light was on and reading the PSI wrong. Will graciously pulled my truck in the service area and examined the issue. What occured is the other oil change place did not reset my PSI monitors which must be done on the type of truck I have. Will also properly inflated my tires and didnt charge me a nickel. He did offer some very good advice...In the future take your truck to real ASE certified mechanics for simple service and you will be assured things are done correctly..the first time. Needless to say, I will be going to Terrys Car Care for all service needs in the future!
These guys are fantastic! Bill was nothing but an absolute pleasure to work with and the pricing was more than fair. As the concierge for Ovation 309 I will be recommending these guys to all of the residents and everyone else!
They helped us with an expensive repair. Communication was prompt and clear. Repairs took a little longer than we thought, but I think it was due to waiting for the part. Even with that, we didnt have to wait too long.
My daughter had her car towed here. It had stopped running and I feared it had blown the engine. Knowing the cars history I called and spoke to Calvin - letting him know the engine was probably seized. A day later he called back and stated the engine was seized, and a new engine would run $4,000. I called several other shops and received estimates of $3,200 and $3,500.I decided to have him replace the engine because I live in Green Bay, and my daughter is going to school in Madison. The inconvience of having it towed again was not worth just paying the repair. I drove to Madison to authorize and pay for the repair. When I arrived I noticed the grille was smashed out of the car. I also noticed the fog light assembly was smashed and pushed through the front bumper. I also noticed the lower shroud on the bottom of the engine by the passenger front wheel was dragging on the ground. Of course, Terrys denied doing any of this and indicated the tow company must have done it. I actually have a picture of the car on the tow truck flat bed with no damage.Terrys did $1,500 damage to the car! With this new damage I decided not to repair the car, so naturally Terrys charged me $90 for telling me the engine was seized - which I had already known.Esentially they trashed my car, and charged me $90 to tell me something I already knew.Never use Terrys. Horrible experience, rude people, untrustworthy and overpriced.
Very overpriced and charged over $100 to “diagnose the problem” when I already told them what it was. Literally twice the price of other mechanic for same job. Argued about what they originally quoted me. Do not recommend
Absolutely phenomenal car care experience. They made a stressful situation actually enjoyable... and my car runs GREAT!
Always fair and courteous, usually more concerned with customers safety and satisfaction than making top dollars
Prompt, efficient, knowledgeable, considerate, affordable! Great service!
A terrible business focused only on making more money for themselves. We came in with a broken tie rod. I told the guy what was wrong and what I needed fixed along with an oil change (which I brought the oil for). The oil change, which we never gave them permission to do, was quoted at $24. They charged another $10 for oil disposal and $10 for parts -- none of which was quoted in the price. I came back to ask what the extra charges were for. The worker was incredibly rude and went so far as to call my fiancé after the fact to say those were standard charges but NOT to apologize. A bunch of rude scammers; take your business elsewhere.
Please beware of these crooks.I made a mistake when I went to Terrys Car Care to buy a used car, even after reading negative reviews on Yelp and getting bad feedback from my college friends. But I had really liked the car as displayed in their misleading advertisement on craigslist.I was a very naive first time car buyer and these guys sold me this lemon car for which the engine light turned on in a week, several parts started showing problems within 2 weeks and then in a month the transmission failed and the car stopped in the middle of a freeway. I bought the car for $6000 and had to spend additional $4500 the same month, to get everything repaired and make the car drive-able, can you believe it?There was no help in this matter from Terrys. I even lodged a complaint at the Madison DMV, but it didn help as there are no strict laws to protect such used car deals. Once you buy a used car as is and walk out of the shop you are literally on your own. Thus please think 10 times before buying a used car and 1000 times when you buy it from Terrys car care.Apart from used cars, for all other services these guys charge 30% higher than other shops. My suggestion is that before you take their service, please ask for quotes from at least 2-3 different shops in vicinity. I think all the super positive reviews here are posted by either friends or family members of Terrys car care.My best wishes are with everyone who service their car at this shop.
Work done in a timely manner & great customer service
Correct diagnosis of an issue I was having but the service to fix it was too expensive so I decided not to have them fix it. Overall very professional and high quality though!
After reading the bad comments i do not want to do business with this place.
I dropped by Terry’s for re-torque of my winter tires, which were put on at another store. The technician was kind and did it free for me
They don’t give eatimates over the phone. Beware of businesses that will waste your time, likely that they will over charge.
Terrible customer service. Homeboy that was working is a total nutsack
Ive been there a few times now and every single time they are honest and forthright with pricing and length of time it will take to fix the problem.
Always a good experience.
