We recently sold 38 fine American and English antiques through Hays Auctions valued at over $100,000. Ann Hays told us how we could expect good prices from our pieces and that they got more for these fine antiques than anyone around. She told us how excited she was to get to sell our items and how they had broken national records for the prices they had gotten for antiques and how they could get us way more money than any antique dealer would pay us. When we received our check for slightly over $11,000, we were stunned. We received slightly more than 11 cents on a dollar. Ive been in business for over 39 years in Louisville. I have never had anyone misrepresent anything worse than these people did. These people are dishonest. These people are liars. Do not make the same mistake we did. Have an estate sale. Youll get more money selling your items that way than youd get through Hays Auctions.
We got a bill instead of a check! We called Hays & Associates because we were moving to a smaller home and had many large items we could not use. Since we had no way to get the larger furniture pieces to the auction house, we were advised to have the mover that they regularly use pick up our items for auction. We were told the cost of moving the items would be taken out of the proceeds from the sale of those items. Since we had several items all in very good condition we agreed to have them picked up and sold at auction. After the auction we received a bill for over $80 rather than a check. The reason was the incredibly low prices at which the items we sent were sold: for example the sleeper sofa we sent sold for $5, the recliner for $2, the daybed for $12.50 and all 6 place settings of fine china and crystal for $20. We have dealt with other auction services and have received at least yard sale value for what was sold. These prices, however, were so low they did not cover the cost of moving them to the auction house (hence the bill). We can only assume Mr. Hays auctions are not well attended, or are attended only by people who plan to get something for next to nothing. What we know is that we would definitely NOT recommend anyone ever use his services.
For the (haters): people go to auctions to find great deals for themselves or to resell, if you as a seller want the value back on your product try selling it yourself. Hays cant predict what your item will go for, only the possiblities. I can only hope to score your precious antique for a buck. Ive enjoyed and been treated well there. Ive managed to score a treasure every time for a great price. They do keeping it going pretty fast too.
I have had nothing but good dealings with all the staff at Hays auctionFirst class buy and selling and always welcome to questions
Very unhappy, do yourself a favor and dont use them to sell anything. Im sure you can fill your house with nice things very cheaply because they give it away. I was selling my parents furniture and it took them weeks to get it all.done. Would give less than one star.
Great auction house. You never know what you will find. Treasures abound!
I have been attending auction at Hays for 15 years. Used to bring my now teenage daughter in her bassinet as a baby. I have never been treated with anything but respect by the owners and employees. I have made many, many, good purchases over the years and a few foolish ones. Items are presented fairly with defects not hidden. The owners have a pretty fair body of knowledge and handle a wide range of people fairly. The goods range from junk to true treasures, you never know what might turn up!
This might be a good place for SOME buyers (read what people write on google reviews), but we placed over 50 valuable dolls (antiques and rarities), and helped Ann Hays load them into her car while she gave us her smiling happy spin on things. Four months later, after many attempts and mostly failures to contact them, after we request a return of the dolls, we are suddenly told they were ALL sold, and enclosed was a check for $159. There were individual antiques valued higher than that in the 55+ lot.As other angry customers have said, these people prey on especially estates of collectibles, probably sell these dolls to their family and friends at ridiculously low prices, so they can resell them again for the proper price through their connections, and through websites like eBay. We were also kept OUT of the auction (which apparently was held a week after we started demanding answers), despite being promised to be notified in order to promote it through our connections. They may seem nice, and claim to be Christian, but BEWARE. Theyre a bad lot, and youre likely to lose far more than you might potentially gain.
I love going to actions and I have brought some good thing there.
Every other week auctions are Americana at its best. Lots of items, mostly good prices, unusual pieces, different lots every time, very knowledgeable auctioneers, friendly and extremely helpful workers, labor to assist loading is on standby....
Always friendly. Happy its a DAY auction. A+++
Ken Hays and his associates were very professional when they handled the auction of my fathers land. We were impressed and pleased with their results.
Always get a good deal
Best auctioneers in Louisville. Low commissions.
Sometimes I feel like the auction is rushed before good examinations of items can be seen
I have purchased many items at Auction..I realize people put a value on items compared to retail prices.Auctions are unpredictable and prices are set buy the demand of the bidder. If you want top dollar consider selling items yourself.I have never experienced rude behavior. They the Hayes are running a business and have to be stern sometimes when customers become loud and unruly
Wow, too many bad reviews I will not be using this auction house.
Good friendly auction
