Think big sledding hill with 6 rope tows. I went Sat Feb 8th, in mid 30’s and was pretty busy. Good place for first time skiers (about half people there probably first time so be prepared for long tow rope lines that stop often for those that fell or troubles getting on tow). Location nestled behind bunch of apartments, easy to get to. Got two lift tickets for just $26 total (with Groupon ad in google maps) so pretty good price, good place to practice beginner skills but not really a ski hill for levels beyond that, they have some boarder/ski jumps on one run too. Don’t wait for anyone to answer phone if you call, I tried few times and just heard recordings Fri and Sat during their business hours, no one returned my v-mails asking to confirm snow and runs open.

Last time I snowboarded was 1989 at four lakes and it was a great memory. And I went Sunday to snowboard and I had the time of my life. For the money you cant go wrong I highly recommend to go and have fun ski or snowboard. You will have fun if your renting equipment try and get there early to avoid long lines.

Its pretty good for what it is: an upgraded sledding hill. But theres two key places they can improve. The rope lifts are what they are, but they could put in knots or bars to help get people up the hill. My arms were in pain less than an hour in. Also, they really need to work on crowd control at the bottom of the hill. There were tons of people loitering around the last 1/4 of each run creating both an annoying situation as well as a dangerous one.Not bad for so close to home, but they can definitely improve. Especially for $30 in both ways.

Not very many slope options. The rope to go up the hill is not easy to use, if youre a beginner. The only other option to go up, is to walk up and that will tire you quickly. The service for the restaurant, lift ticket, ski/snowboard equipment pickup was great!

The covid regulations are non existent. No one properly wears their masks and there is no social distancing enforced inside. The line just to get lift tickets and rentals was an hour and a half long jammed in like sardines (DURING COVID).We eventually had a good time when it cleared up at the end. They really should have a limit on how many people are allowed to enter for the one hill they have (not only during covid but also during normal operation. It was extremely crowded to the point where you couldnt go anywhere without running into someone).

The place is kinda sketchy, and everything is very confusing. The older man at the ski rental counter was very rude, and although he was informative I do NOT appreciate being spoken to rudely infront of 20 people. The the blonde girl at the ski return was very friendly and helpful as well as the other girl at the front door of the lodge. They were the only nice and helpful people we experienced. And at the end I didn’t even get the free Red Bull because that didn’t work😞 not trying to be a karen but this place wasn’t even worth the Groupon price.🤷🏼‍♀️

Four Lakes is a good place to practice skiing or snowboarding. They are well staffed and the tow ropes work good (for me at least. some people have a hard time with tow ropes). My main complaint (which has nothing to do with the management) is how many inexperienced people are there. I am new to skiing but there are a lot of really bad skiers and snowboarders who constantly are in your way on the ropes and on the hill due to the nature of the small hill. Not much can be done about this by management but its worth noting. Try going during weeknights to avoid the crowds. They have great deals on Groupon so check that out before heading over!

My husband and I moved to the area recently and were excited to see a slope near us. We are trained skiers but thought this might be a good place to teach my husband’s little brother (7 yrs old) without having to drive all the way to Wisconsin or Michigan and spend a ton of money for him to quit.Unfortunately, this place is the most dangerous ski area we’ve been to. There’s no supervision of skiers and many come flying down the hill barreling into the children and no one says anything. People attempt hills they aren’t ready for and hurt others. Within ten minutes someone hit my husband and within an hour someone came down the hill and hit three small children. The rope tows are unsupervised except for the top. Teenagers and kids try to get on the middle and crash into people and no one even attempts to direct them to the line at the bottom. Even though the ropes are supervised at the top, they are never stopped, even when kids fall and pile up at the top. They just keep letting kids fall into the pile.Besides the blatant safety issues, we also went the day after this winter’s largest snow storm and they had two of the four runs closed all day to make snow for them.Sadly, we won’t be back. Even as trained skiers we felt incredibly unsafe. And we couldn’t imagine bringing a child again. The person that hit my husband and those kids must have been well over 200 pound men. Someone is going to get seriously hurt here.

Went with my own gear and used a groupon. Even though there were lines for everything we were taken care of very quickly. The place was packed and yet the bigger hills we very easy to get up and down.Tow ropes only so do not wear your nice gloves. And if the line for the bunny hill is too long, walk up it. Good exercise and no wait for that. Just please be mindful of other people.Unfortunately as of late, Chicago winters have not had a lot of good snow for boarding(at least the last 3 years) so the snow is mostly artificial and groomed.Very nice people, good for a winter activity in the middle of the burbs.

We visit Four Lakes with a friend that lives nearby and passed on a trip to our usual spot Alpine Valley. We were disappointed in the negative tone of the staff which made us felt not cared for and does not value our business and not family friendly. We had a 2 year and a couple of 7 years old kids learning to ski. From the slope patrol staff, to a waiter in the restaurant to the personel that we return boots to - which my mother had to rent just to be on the ski area with my 2 year old- who almost accused us for only returning a pairs of snow board shoes and ask where was the rental snow board. Being in hospitaly and service all of our lives, we realize that rules and etiquette are in place for the good of the people, the problem is the lack of empathy shown by the staff and the delivery of the message that made us feel unwelcome. We hope that this experience was an exception not the norm from all the positive reviews that we read. With all the better options out there, it is hard to take another chance with 4 Lakes and possible find the same disappointed experience. So sadly, this will be the first and last time at 4 Lakes for our family.

Its a hill in the middle of a flat area. You cant expect too much out of it. I feel they do a great job with what they are given. The bar is nice and staff is friendly. The only downside is that its not very big (as expected) and I didnt enjoy the way they had the terrain park set up with all features bunched together at the bottom. That way isnt as enjoyable because it doesnt allow you to hit a solid line. But nonetheless its a good time and a good park for the area

December 23, 2017 3:00pm atFour Lakes Ski ResortI called about me & my Service Dog Snowboarding at the Four Lakes Ski resort i was told by the VERY VERY RUDE LADY That answered the phone Your Service Dog is Not Welcomed in the FOUR Lakes Ski Resort & told that people would not appreciate my service Dog on the Ski hill. This is reply from Four Lakes Ski ResortHello,This is Chris Buehler, Director of Four Lakes. I was present at the time of your call and I feel that there may have been a slight misunderstanding. The lady who answered your call, Holly, did not say that your service dog was not welcome, she stated that we do not recommend a service animal on the snow. The reason that she stated that we do not recommend a service animal on the snow is because there are beginners at our area who are still learning how to ski and board and don’t necessarily know how to stop or turn properly. Another reason we do not recommend service animals on the snow is because a lot of children and adults do not understand what a service animal does, and that when they are wearing their vest, they are working. We are simply concerned for your safety, and for your service animals safety. We cannot guarantee that the patrons here would not attempt to pet your dog while he or she is working.Again, I feel that there was a misunderstanding between you and Holly. Four Lakes welcomes all service animals, especially since our quality control staff member is a disabled veteran who brings his dog with him to work. We simply do not recommend a dog on the snow is all.

Update:Four lakes contacted us immediately after our review. They were apologetic, understanding, and we worked out a solution. We will give them another shot, and I updated the review. We called and spoke with a young lady yesterday to ask about open skiing at 12:27 pm and asked about open skiing today. She told us we could come starting at 10 am, that lift tickets were on sale $10, etc. and so we made plans to go. We spent an hour in the car and got there at 12:25 pm. When we walked in we were told there was no open skiing, no apology and no reasoning for an employee telling us we could come. My kids were devastated, and we wasted two hours in the car. No apologies from workers who basically told us we were lying because no employee would have guarantee open skiing, even though we showed them the phone call with date and time and had the information she gave us. I have never had a business act like that period.

Solid 4-star Chicago area hill. Lets all remember this is 100 vertical feet in one of the flattest cities in the world. If you want to get on the snow and stay within 30 miles of the city, this is the place. The management is great! They always seem to go out of their way to welcome me and the kids. The grooming is top-notch (there is never an odd lump or groove), the terrain park is as great (although shorter) as anything at a true mountain. You can easily string 3-4 tricks on different features in just one run. The only lifts are tow ropes, so save your expensive ski gloves and bring some leather-palmed work gloves instead. And strengthen those forearms!!! The ticketing, rental, and lodge areas are spartan, at best, and there is only a snack bar with minimal choices. The lodge and food is one area that could use some improvement. This is not a place for the apres scene, but its not supposed to be. There is a separately managed bar/restaurant on site, but you have to remove your boots to go in.The ski instructors for kids lessons are great; cant speak to the adult lessons. The Ski Patrol does a good job of keeping the kids/teens in line without being oppressive. This is definitely the place where many Chicagoans learn to ski. So, beginners can feel comfortable, and experienced skiers need to exercise patience.All-in-all a great place for beginners to learn and for experienced skiers to make a few turns in between trips to a true mountain experience.

Pros: Convenient location, rest area with all the needs, equipments are solid, its actually got hill to ski for.Cons: No lift but constant moving rope that you have to hold on tight to move to the top of the hill, if someone fell/tripped in the middle of the rope the traffic have to stop therefore very little chance to get to top of the hill, and holding rope tires you up a lot faster than you might think. If you looking to have causal fun ski/snowboarding and not planning to drive far, this is a perfect place to be. However, this is not Wisconsin, dont expect too much.

Four lakes is a mediocre resort that servers its purpose: a man made ski hill used in a flat Chicago-land area. Prices are always going up for no reason other than a growing terrain park. The terrain park crew keeps everything nice and makes sure all terrain obstacles are open and closed when need be. Individual Ski and Snowboard lessons are given by teenagers in Highschool. Some are good, others have no idea what they are doing. Tow ropes break down on and off. From a former employees standpoint (back in 2012), Management was terribly ran. Lesson managers hung out at the lodge and typically had pitchers of beer in their office. I went multiple months without receiving a single paycheck and it eventually came to a point that it seemed our free season lift pass was the only thing that was ultimately paid to us. Not sure if any of this has changed or not. For the love of god, go somewhere else if you dont live within half an hour of the place.

The last time I went there, the snow wasnt the best, but usually, its just fine. I recommend going there, its a great place to learn how to ski/snowboard. Often, on the tow ropes, there are pileups, and they stop a lot, but its not bad overall. Youll have to be strong to hold on the ropes. Its fine for quite a while, but then you get tired, and I skied for several hours, so it was very tiring. Its pretty fun going up the ropes, nevertheless. Its like skiing uphill.

Its a hill and relatively small - as expected around Chicago. The pros: good snow, fun atmosphere, friendly staff, close to Chicago, reasonable price, fun jumpsThe cons: the lifts and the lack of staff- Lifts: All lifts were rope lifts, making it exhausting and hard for beginners. Also, with only 3 lifts, the wait time was ~5min (vs 30sec to get down)- Staff: Staff was friendly but the place felt significantly understaffed for a beautiful February weekend, especially in the restaurant and the ski rental area (probably 150ppl in the line around 11am, ~30min wait)Overall, I am not sure I would go again: Its no fun for beginners (hard to hold on to the rope), and its no fun for intermediate/experts (mini runs, and holding a rope and a 4yr old gets super exhausting very quickly).

Jus saying spend 50 extra bucks in gas and go to WISCONSIN. now that is skiing. Would never recommend this place. Hoping word of mouth goes further than any advertising. Id never let my child ski here.....ever. There are constant pile ups on what they wanna call a lift....we spent $58 to make it 1/2 way up the hill due to children falling. Didnt feel safe AT ALL....Ski patrol just kept letting everyone pile up...rather than STOPPING the rope (common sense). And management in a joke....ever bought cheap toilet paper and regretted it? Yep its exactly like that. Ive skiied for yrs and have never been to such a hole in the wall place. Spend the extra money....shoot down I-80 and go to SnowStar or Chestnut mountain...dells isnt far from Chicago either.Save yourself and your children from being injured on this dangerous hill they wanna slap a rope on and call a ski slope.
