My daughter had just lost her bunny and her other bunny needed a companion quick. We searched all over and after calling the animal shelter found they had 5 bunnies, 3 of which would fit the bill for what we were looking for. We made an appointment and when we got there they were so kind and helpful. They were very focused on helping us and our adoption needs. They brought in the three bunnies to us one at a time. The workers at the animal shelter where good to let us handle and interact with each bunny. They even had to bring in several of the bunnies multiple times well we tried to find the perfect fit for our family. The workers were very helpful and told us all that they could about each bunny and helped us find the perfect one. My daughter fell in love with that little white bunny and Crystal Berry Sugar Pop could not be a more perfect fit. The adoption was quick and easy, If we ever need another animal I will definitely go back there before looking anywhere else.

Do not take any animals here. They kill all unclaimed and all animals they deem unadoptable via GAS CHAMBER. They are 1 of 4 shelters in the ENTIRE COUNTRY who still euthanize animals with gas. It is an extremely agonizing and slow death. This is done within the week they are brought in. They almost never give these animals a chance at adoption or rescue... They just murder them. Please do not take any animals you find to this shelter... Make the drive to the nearest no-kill shelter you can find.

Pretty disappointed that I made an appointment to adopt a specific rabbit to be a house bunny, and instead he was given to a farm along with a handful of others...and yet there were still adoptable rabbits left. Unsure as to why a rabbit with an appointment was handed off rather than one without, especially when I changed my original appointment to an earlier date and moved around my work schedule as the staff recommended I do in order to take him home (the current hours are very difficult to make, by the way).I totally understand their desire to rescue more rabbits overall with the flow they receive and that appointments arent holds, but it couldve been one more save had the farm taken a different rabbit instead and left me to adopt my boy. I had just received the 12 SQ ft cage I bought for him when I got the call that he was gone.Im still giving two stars for the excellent responsiveness to phone calls.

Keep in mind that Wednesdays are the only weekdays that you can’t volunteer to walk the dogs! The dog area was pretty smelly, and I think the cats are more well managed than the dogs, but that’s understandable since the cats can just use litter boxes. This place is definitely not as bad as everybody on here is saying, but it’s also not as clean as some shelters. The most important part of the shelter is the fact that you go here to adopt a loving pet!

So we showed up to the shelter as early as we could, working full time jobs it was 4:18 we had already decided on which cat to adopt and just wanted to see it and hold it for a few min and then take it to a loving home. The lady at the front said we couldn’t have more than 7 min with the cat and we needed 15 before we adopted it and they wouldn’t allow that so we would have to come back Monday. Well we don’t have the ability to come on weekdays that early and they are closed Saturdays. How do you expect normal people to adopt in these circumstances? I want to adopt so I can help these animals have a good home but a shelter so poorly run as this one makes it impossible.

On their website they list COVID-19 restrictions and my wife and I followed them to a T. However, when we arrived, they made my wife wait outside, couldnt even bring her in although we both had masks on. Their website says that 5 customers are allowed in at a time, there was only 2 in there when I arrived and my wife and I would have brought the grand total to 4. Why was she not allowed to at least come in? Their website said nothing about only 1 person in a group being allowed inside at one time. We specifically planned to come early during a weekday for the very reason that we didnt think they would be that busy. Lastly, and this wasnt on their website, the front desk told me that unless we were serious on adopting that day, we couldnt see any of the animals and that we just had to look at pictures on the website because they wanted to reduce foot traffic in the shelter. How am I supposed to know which animal Id like to adopt if I cant spend some time with them? If anything else, put that on the website so people dont waste their time driving out only to be turned away. I realize that we are all trying to be safe through COVID but if you ask me, the shelter shouldnt even be open if your restrictions are not clearly defined and also make it impossible to look at animals before adopting them. Ill always follow a businesses directive, we couldnt see any animals and had to walk right back out to our car and drive home. Whatever, Im not going to fight you and make a scene in the store but I hope you read my review and update your website or change how you are running things over there. We are serious about adopting but this is our first time and we wanted to visit some shelters and really find the right pet for us. Sucks that our first experience had to be here.

This is a pretty good animal shelter as far as shelters in Utah are concerned. Tucked away in an out of the way corner, they have a lot of pets ready for adoption. There are strict rules in place to prevent transmission of disease. Workers and volunteers are generally helpful and patient. Conditions are better than expected. Plenty of parking is available. Egress is not an issue at any time of day or the year.

Two reviews in one! You lucky dog-lovers you. First, I got my sweet girl Bailey here. She was about 6 months old when we adopted her. She was perfectly healthy, seemed to be getting enough to eat and was very eager to learn. The staff where pretty knowledgeably and happily answered my questions. The shelter itself was relatively clean, although Im not much of a fan of their idea of cleaning the dogs (hosing them off as they hose down the kennels), but thats really my only complaint.Second review, people are saying they are selling animals to UofU for experiments and mass gasings to kill unadoptable dogs and cats are just stupid. These people obviously cant do their own research and only listen to what PETA says. dont listen to them. NUVAS works closely with Humane Society and the owner is actually a huge supporter of animal rights. They are a no kill shelter.

This ended up being untrue. The vet said they had this problem a lot. Then I find the humane society and fax over her vaccination records, apparently they didnt even give her the proper vaccination before I took her home into my house with other animals. Just unrealistically absurd. Im not sure how theyre still open.

I adopted Molly, a chocolate lab, possibly mixed with a German short haired pointer, as a young dog in October of 2014. Molly was very scrawny, and underweight, she knew basic commands such as sit and stay, and lay down. She had also been house trained. The vet we took her to said she needed an antibiotic for the kennel cough she displayed. For two weeks, until the last pill was given, we had huge messy accidents all over the house, since she couldn’t get out fast enough when the runs came on. She seemed so embarrassed after these episodes. Fortunately, I have a carpet shampooer and lots of old towels so we all, the humans and the dog, survived the “cure”! Molly is so sweet. She loves cuddles and belly rubs are the finest invention ever. Molly has fine table manners. She waits to be told it is her turn to eat, and she never grabs things that fall to the floor. She does not counter surf, or get in the garbage. I love Molly’s gentle manners around my youngest granddaughter. She lets Caroline sit on her and pull her fur, and talk to her in baby talk. We are teaching Caroline how to give gentle commands so Molly will be able to do what Caroline wants her to do. Molly’s only problem has been manifested in panic attacks if we try to leave her in a kennel facility. She rips her paws into bloody shreds, chews the bars till there are open sores on her lips, and twice has had broken teeth. She refuses to eat or drink until we return. We had to leave her for 3 days for my father-in-laws funeral. When we picked up Molly from the kennel she drank 3 liters of water we had in the car, without even slowing down to breath in between, The care providers told us she was “just normal” while we were gone, and had seen no problems while we were gone. They also gave us most of the dog food we home cook and package to freeze for Molly back to us. We will not leave Molly again. Another thing with Molly is that she is terrified of fireworks and gunshots. I think the reason Molly was well trained in the early months was the previous owner wanted a “gun” dog. I think he dumped her off at the local WalMart to fend for herself when she could not meet his needs. She starved for several weeks until being picked up by animal control. My never-ending thanks to you folks at the NUVAS. You were wonderful to work with, and we feel so blessed to have sweet Molly in our family. She sleeps on my bed with me. My husband died unexpectedly 13 yrs ago, and it is really nice to have a warm body snoring on the other side of the bed after so many empty nights. When we go to the park each day for a long walk, she always lets us know it is time to go and chase her tennis ball. She’ll even get the ball and carry it around to show us she is packed and ready to go. Molly is a permanent member of this family now, thanks to the love and care she received from NUVAS workers. Thanks so much for all your caring!!!

I shared my story about my dog that I have had since she was 4 months old and felt the quality of her life had gone down so much and was told my reasoning or putting her down was not good enough with diabetes and later decided to put her up for adoption. I feel that is cruel to the animal to make her go through blood testing and shots every day so that we can keep her alive and for who; her or us? I am an animal lover but sensitive to their health and not wanting them to live to satisfy me but them. I think the line should be drawn sooner. Only to receive an absurdly expensive bill with them not bothering to even spray off my dog who had been rolling around in her own feces in their cages. I highly recommend maybe charging the weekend, but at least allowing the owners to pick up their animals during the weekend as you do have staff there available to facilitate this. Really? Youre trying to save pets and find them homes and these are the best hours? I guess only retired folks, the independently wealthy, and stay-at-home parents are the only people who adopt pets these days.I wont be going back to this shelter which means that my $85 adoption fee is lost (if anyone cares) and one more cat faces the possibility of going to the gas chamber. The employee told me that they do not kill pets that they consider adoptable, but if they are aggressive etc. they give them a short window for adoption (I think she said two weeks but Im not sure) and then they are killed. They had free kittens last week and one free cat this week. The prices were different prices for different dogs. I was not very impressed with the customer service when we asked to be shown the animals is was pretty much we close in ten minutes take a look for yourself I wasnt sure the rules or the layout or anything and they couldnt be bothered to let me know if we could take the animals out to pet them or what (the signs let me think maybe you can, but Im still not sure). I didn’t know how to contact them directly so I thought I’d leave a review. I’m giving them 4 stars because they reunited me with my lost bird who flew away. I’d give them 5 but I was sad to hear that they’re a not a no kill facility. They called me because they saw my lost bird ad on KSL. I live and work in West Valley City so I immediately left work to drive there before they closed for the weekend. Due to the harsh lighting in the room and the bad condition of the bird(they found her that way tangled up in a fence) I was convinced she wasn’t mine. I also couldn’t hold her because she was a flight risk so I couldn’t really get a close look at her. Given that she had been in the facility long enough that she surpassed the holding period she was available for adoption. So even though I was convinced she wasn’t mine I decided I wanted to adopt her. The staff members told me she was a feisty bird but I adopted her. In the long car ride home she wiggled her way out of her box they gave me and snuggled up on my shoulder. I waited because I wasn’t 100% sure if she was mine. Under better lighting and being back in an environment she was comfortable with I was able to see that she is in fact my bird that was lost for nearly a month. So thank you so much to the shelter employee who still looked for her family even though her holding period was up. I cannot thank you enough for reuniting me with my baby.

So instead of leaving it there, we decided the best thing we could do is bring it to the shelter. As soon as we got there the staff was super moody and did not want anything to do with the animal. They were way too unenthusiastic about helping the little baby out and took it away from us with all unwillingness and a couple of eye rolls.I’m sorry, but I genuinely felt like this shelter could care less about the animals that come in and I instantly regretted leaving that poor baby in their care. What else were we supposed to do? I at first felt like we were saving this kittens life just to feel horrible after leaving it there. I gave them two stars for actually taking the kitten in but the service could have been way better and a thousand times more caring.

We had a great experience when we took home our new friend. Im sad to read all the ugly comments about a shelter thats trying to do some good in this world. The staff was great and I appreciate what they do. Ignore the ugly comments and rescue a pet from the shelter, instead of buying designer dogs or from puppy mills. We love our new found friend!

Or dog was picked up within a half hour of her getting out of our fence.. she has a bulging disc that were treating so of course she nipped when picked up. Had to stay here 10 days. When we picked her up she was filthy, starving, had sites on her paws and sad. She lost so much weight in 10 days! For 225$

I found a cat in our backyard with a collar on it. My mom had cancer and it was difficult to drive anywhere because of the situation so it took me a few weeks to find the time to take it to this animal shelter. During these weeks the cat was wonderful and friendly and, truly, if my circumstances were different I would have kept him for myself. In the end, I dropped him off with a heavy heart and hoped he would find a good home. I called to ask on his status and was told he was put down because he was sneezing. I couldnt believe that he would be put down for something so minor and asked for more details. After being on hold, the person came back on the phone and really had nothing else to say other than it was sneezing and in general its health was declining. I simply couldnt believe this as I watched this cat for weeks be full of energy and life. If you drop off a stray/lost animal here be aware that its possible youre taking it to die if even if theres nothing wrong with it. I read other reviews saying the same thing but still decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt. This is one decision I will regret for the rest of my life.

I wish this were open for more hours! Or at least on weekends. Volunteering is a fulfilling experience. All these animals are so loveable, only loud because they want a home. Hoping to find a good dog to adopt soon, these pets are all worth the care.

Nice staff, very quiet when you first walk in. The dog area gets loud, but the cats are relatively quiet. They had two rabbits, and a hand full of turtles, if anyone is interested.

Save these poor babies still regardless! They have to sleep on concrete and it breaks my heart. They offer no grace period and their surrender fee is INSANE! I get not wanting to have a dog brought back, but now I see why so many dogs get left on the streets. Ive been in contact with many rescues and cant seem to get any help. I encourage rescuing the poor babies here, but this shelter doesnt care if the animal fits in with your family or not. Theyre out for money

This shelter is dirty. This shelter is clean. The staff are friendly. The staff are mean. What is it? It seems to me that this is not entirely a problem with customer service. This is a problem with customers. Also, if you looking for something that is wrong with the shelter, you will find it. And for those who are upset about the price to get your dog out, it is actually very reasonable. However, to get your dog out, you need to have a Utah County dog license and your dogs rabies vaccination current. Why? Because its the law. And when you dont have that, then they have to do the license, the rabies, and - of course - there will be a penalty fee. Dont blame them for your failure to comply with the law. This place is a good place with good people as staff. If you go there fairly often, you always see/hear something new that they are trying out to make the animals more comfortable until they are picked up by their owners or adopted. Also, tip for you customers/visitors, if you treat those around you and the staff kindly, they will treat you kindly back. It works both ways. Any person who has done customer service can attest to that.
