We recently bought a 8 week old hedgehog and we are in love! The owner and staff were super helpful and they had everything we needed! And it was definitely cheaper then Amazon!!!Definitely we will be returning in the near future!!

Animals are absolutely gorgeous, toys are great, but pets are sick.My friends and family thought this place was great at first. We all bought from here excited to help the little guy. All of us. ALL of us. Spent collectively thousands on ER vet visits all to be told we were sold sick animals or sold animals with bad genes. Had rescues live much longer lives than pets from here and they were already older animals.Ferret from here died at four years old from a tumor.Rabbit died from here at one years old from bad GI tract.Parrot just dropped dead, didn’t have a chance to bring it to the vet. Was purchased with a total botched wing trim.We were so sure it was somehow our fault and the ER vets were being nice. But so many reviews talk about sick and dying animals. Don’t do it.

Went to this store hoping their focus on exotic pets would help me with a turtle tank set up. Everything was overpriced and I felt taken advantage of by the owner. Appeared helpful, however he was taken advantage of a customer starting a hobby. Do not shop there for animals and accessories. I guarantee its significantly overpriced. I understand big stores have advantages on pricing and I was willing to pay a bit more to support a small business. Dont go to this store unless you want to be ripped off. Sincerely disappointed.

Paid for a lovebird, and was incredibly happy with my experience. We waited until the lovebird was old enough to eat on his own but we were invited to visit the bird anytime and the staff was so incredibly nice when we picked up the bird.

Im a animal enthusiast and I tried to apply here because I seen the staff was under qualified. They were not educated on how to care for the animals, whereas I was over qualified for the position and was rejected. So if in the future anyone that may work here, please tend to the animals better than the Neanderthals before you.

All of the employees were very kind and helpful. Got to hold the blue and gold macaw and a baby red tail boa. I was instructed on how to get the macaw on my arm and that I should hold him lower than eye height.

My daughter got a bunny today. The staff are very experienced and nice.

The owner is a rude individual. You cant ask a question without a condescending reaction. His employees are sweet though.

Horribly disappointed😡 that I got taken advantage of I bought a 40 gallon tank with a stand for $650 Ken told me that it was a bargain unfortunately I was naïve and inexperienced about fish tank prices cause after I bought it and set it up. I went a few times to many other pet supply stores to buy fish and fish food and they sold tanks that were tremendously bigger like 75 gallons with stands and was only like $200-$250 for a whole set plus Came with many other accessories than the one I bought at this place extremely disappointed that this guy took advantage of me and Manipulated me into Buying this tank here. he is a Manipulative-salesman that would Try to push you into buying accessories for Way-over priced products If you shop here just buy the animal and not the accessories.

I can’t speak for the other animals but the snakes they sell are not cared for properly. I have been a few times to see what they have and one ball python in particular had missing scales and was severely underweight. I would never trust buying an animal from them! Also incredibly overpriced! I have had ball pythons for 10 years so I can tell when one is sick or underweight and I couldn’t believe the one I saw that they are trying to sell to people.

Kenn and staff were very friendly and helpful. Competitive pricing and a good selection of exotic animals and supplies. Great little shop to let the kids explore. We will definitely return!

I visited this place early April, they always have good selection of pets animals. I bought a male canary and let me tell you about this cute thing, he started singing in the house from the very first day he got home, amazing! I am happy and the staff is very friendly too! 5 Starz:)

He is a kind person who has a great deal of useful and practical information to help you care for your new addition to your family. The store is clean and well maintained.There is no offensive pet store smell here.For those interested in birds, this is the store for you. This store will let you see and touch the bird you want to take home BEFORE you buy it! This helps you determine wherther you can more easily bond with the bird.The variety of pets and products for pets is impressive. We love this store! Ken sold us an amazing baby cockatiel. He was handfed and handled for around 6-8 weeks before we got him and hes so socialized to people, excellent temperament. The store is very clean, I see them cleaning it daily and the staff is very nice.

I dont like to leave negative reviews. Im the sort who doesnt return business if theres an unpleasant experience but this has compelled me to leave one because maybe someone else had one too.Ive known this business for quite sometime. I try to be friendly when I go in but the owner is always very curt and obviously not interested in customer service with me. Hes fine with others. I ask a question and hes almost angry at having to answer me. The non-hijab wearing customers are treated with respect.I wanted a kitten for daughters 16th birthday. We chose one and were going to pick it up the next day. We went, calling ahead of time because of traffic but arriving still while they were there, but they refused to give us the kitten. The assistants said the owner said no. They were of no help when we asked for advice. Basically it was just buy it and go.We got the kitten the next day but that was the last straw. Im disappointed my daughters birthday wish was filled with so much drama and negativity with this business. Ill not be returning.

I have been going to this place since I was about sixteen years old (thirty-three now) and I absolutely love it.. the animals are well taken care of, it’s clean, the staff is friendly and helpful.. And not that fake friendly you get everywhere else, they genuinely want to talk and get to know your wants and needs so both you and your new pet are happy..If anyone asks me for a good pet store I always say this place.. I highly recommend anyone reading this do they same.. they will take care of you..

Good customer service reasonably priced and good location.

Super cramped cages, none of the animals looked happy or acted in the normal ways you see in places with more space or stimulating environments. 2 chickens to a tiny cage hardly had space to move. Unhappy lone tortoise in a tiny empty enclosure that kept trying to get out if someone walked by. Parrot had a bald spot & looked so ruffled, sluggish, & stressed. All of these animals give off the impression that they are barely getting by, i left feeling so bad for them.

I had a horrible shopping experience here! The costumer service was terrible. Everybody there was soo rude, and stuck up. And the living conditions of the animals was not okay. There bird was locked in a little cage, and seemed to be upset. The guinea pigs were locked in a 2x1 square.very unsatisfied!!!!

I really feel very bad for all the animals in this store, All of them look SAD and UNHAPPY. and there is a parakeet who has feather loss and looks sick. And a big parrot who also has feather loss. There is neither airing nor good view for the animals. I feel so sad.

I would have loved to have tried this place out but it didnt make sense for me.Was looking to add some fish to my new fish tank. They dont test water (was told when I called them), so being told that, how can I know Im making a safe choice for my new fish and current fish.Im sure its a great pet store since they do more than just fish. It just made sense for me to go to a dedicated Aquarium store where I can get my water tested and know that they know everything about fish so I have the confidence to make a sound decision.

Its not the cleanest place, but theyve got an awesome array of animals. From chameleons to opossums!The owner is extremely knowledgeable, and very friendly!And from what I understand theyre one of the only places in the area that can still sell rabbits.

We love the Animal store! been going since I was a kid with my father for all our small pets and supplies and now I go with my kids. Everyone is very friendly and super helpful. It is always clean inside and they take great care of all the animals!

Going into this store I was really sad the conditions they had many of their animals. The poor hamsters were cramped into tiny cages, at least four in one cage when hamsters are actually solitary animals. There was pee everywhere and the hamsters were sleeping on it with no sight of food either. In one of the cages I was horrified to see that a hamster was bleeding from its bottom and looked to be in a lot of pain.

Staff are very kind even thou not all are knowledgeable about all the pets, we purchased a ferret and the girl had to ask someone else to answer our questions, on the other hand KENN BEARMAN was very pushy at the time of transaction, this person has a attitude problem, each time I call to get information he would give me an attitude and rush me off the phone. For him to be in business over 30 yrs with that attitude dont have an idea how. Would NOT buy from this pet store and prices are streamly higher than any other place. Do your homework

After reading more reviews I realized the hedgehog I purchased was sick when I bought him. My hedgehog became very sick about a month after I took him home and then died quickly. I was told he was about 6 weeks old when I got him, but I saw the owner change the date on the paperwork and say it was wrong. This means this hedgehog probably looked like a baby because he was sick. My poor little guy

They have a pet 50 year old tortoise in a pen thats 3x3. Its cruel. The animal can barely turn around.They have a very good selection of small and exotic animals and supplies.

I have been coming here to get my birds wings clipped. They always take good care of my birds. Their service is quick and they are super friendly. If you have any questions they are always happy to answer. Definitely my go to place to get my birds wing clipped.

I was just there with my girls. Emily, employee she completely ignored us when my daughter asked question. She was communicating other customers so nicely, but with my girls she ignored twice. It feels like she is discriminating us. So disappointed never coming back

Adopt dont shop. Everyone was in small tanks/cages. Really hope the tortoise was adopted from his/her 5x2ft bathtub. Totally inhumane. Too many fish per tank. Bunnies too many to a cage, feet yellow; some looked depressed up against the cage corner. Probably trying to have some kind of mental/physical space for themselves. For money, ppl breed animals to be sold at pet stores and pet supply stores. The sad thing is, these small enclosures are NOT temporary, and they end up living their lives in horror and pain. Hardly any animals get sold. And if they do, they are replaced by another who will suffer, often to death. Animals, like humans, can go insane from loneliness and boredom; not having freedom or really any rights. Please adopt an animal friend in need from a SHELTER.

It is the worst experience ever. I do not know why this store is still open. It should be closed. The animals are in unhealthy environment and most of them are sick. I bought kittens that were sick and they literally died two days after. He did not refund the money or give store credit or replacement as written on the receipt. Hope they shut down his business.

I cant understand if it was me or if their animals were just sick.But bought a couple gupis and couple frogs. Set up their tanks. Everything good went to sleep. Woke up everything was dead. Im so sad it was the last African albino clawed frog they had 😭

Great little place.

Got a kitten from here a week ago. It was having some really bad diarrhea, but we thought maybe it was a change in food. After a visit to the vet, it was found to have the parasite, Giardia. Conveniently, the receipt says they guarantee the health of the pet for everything other than... parasites. Its like they knew about it. Anyway, weve since spent hundreds of dollars to treat the kitten, and they still arent getting better. The vet said its usually caused by contaminated water and/or feces. Considering the kitten was in a crate with about 7 other kittens, they all would have gotten it, which means that there are several other people out there dealing with the same thing as us right now. I wont ever go back here.

This store was amazing. Honestly my dream job. Animals are my passion and that store felt like home. The owner is super nice and welcoming. Very clean animal enclosures. Would love to be employed there. Emily was a great help with finding the bulbs and other things I needed. Thank you so much.

I bought 2 kittens from them on Saturday. The owner told us if we bought 2 the second would be half off. We bought one at $200 and then when I came back 2 hours later for the 2nd one he would only lower the price to $175. I love the kittens but they are currently having diarrhea and I’m taking them to the vet. Hopefully there isn’t anything wrong with them.Update: the kittens had so many parasites and kept having diarrhea that we had to give them up to the vet we took them to because they would only keep reinfecting each other. DO NOT BUY kittens from this store! Worst place to get a kitten.

This is the place where I got my rabbit, she was a baby and she had grey fur and had blue eyes. She was the best but she past away yesterday, she the best and I want to thank the store for giving me the most precious and beautiful thing in world. Also her name was Luna.👑🐰

Ive stopped in the store a few times and am a big fan. The owner and employees are very knowledgeable about all the animals and if they dont know the answer to the questions you ask theyll point you in the direction of resources that can help you. The live animals that Ive seen (bunnies, ferrets, guinea pigs, and a sulcata tortoise etc) all appear to be in appropriate environments. Last time I was in I was hyped by Emily who was very knowledgeable and helpful!

Its hard to find a great family owned business like this. They know their stuff and have amazing pets to find that you cannot find at the typical high volume chain. I highly recommend supporting this business. If they ever go away, you wont be able to find a replacement for such a great store.

No words can express my disgust at the complete disregard for the conditions these animals are kept in. I wanted to purchase a parakeet and was directed to a small dark cage on the floor where these birds were kept. The barren cage was occupied by a number of birds and against my better judgement I bought one of these pathetically kept babies. I actually felt that I was rescuing the bird. This is an awful inhumane environment, and I can only hope the birds health has not been dangerously impacted by the surroundings.

Kenn is the best and he really knows and loves animals. If you want an animal that you know has been cared for - this is the place to go.

I love the setup of the store they have very nice exotic animals love the birds the fish everything the only thing that I did not like was the staff they was very unprofessional did not help me out with anything did not ask me if I needed help nothing not even a hello. right when I walked into the door they was in the back talking not paying attention to nobody in the front people was walking in and they didnt bother asking if they need help. I did not have a good experience going with the staff but overall I did like the store and the Animals there.

Originally I wanted to get my green cheek conure at Parrot Star however I been visiting this pet store for a while and thought I should support my local pet store. I really feel that the staff is knowledgable in every factor of animals, however I would say customer service should be meticulously looked at. My experience in managing a huge company and I know it may not be comparable to a pet store but customer service is key. I was not to happy about the experience from picking out my bird I feel that I was rushed and did not get the sellers full support and attention. I took my bird home May 05 and unfortunately family circumstance arose with my dad going into surgery tomorrow and it was very irresponsible of myself and I can own up to that. I had my father call because I was highly disappointment and embarrassed in myself. The seller just recommended to give the bird to Chicago bird rescue and was not sympathetic about the circumstances. For it being only two days old I find it unprofessional because Petsmart, Petco, and even rescue shelters have a satisfaction guaranteed for return. Loosing this much money during this pandemic is was definitely a lost and not the pet store responsibility but should make exceptions and there to create more prospects for the long run of people coming to this pet store. DO NOT purchase here UNLESS YOU DONE YOUR RESEARCH. I have reached out to several avian pet store and they said this is a very unprofessional move with also knowing the buyers irresponsible actions. but we are all humans we think something works and it just doesnt. I definitely love the variety of birds this pet store has. BUT I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PET STORE. I would go to PARROT STAR OR BIRDMAN they seem to be more friendly and would not let you leave without all bases are covered and will not rush you. In addition Chicago bird rescue has so many birds you can adopt. WILL NOT BE COME BACK TO THIS PET STORE. I hope no one experiences this cause it is very sad and unfortunately.

Kenn the owner is a very nice guy and very understanding. We had some issues with a rabbit and he went above and beyond to help us solve those, taking care of our feelings first. You do not get that type of customer service from a big box store. As we continue our rabbit journey, I have faith that Kenn will make sure in the end we are happy and we have our furry friend taken care of.

An amazing selection of animals. Birds, lizards, small mammals, fish, snakes and more. Its like a zoo with all the variety. Ive found the owner and staff to be helpful and knowledgeable and their assistance over the years has helped me out greatly over the years. My only complaints are that its a little cramped with all the stock and that because of the size of the store, product selection is less than what you find at the chain stores.

One of the few good pet stores left around. Ken is a class act. Ive been going here well over 20 years and still do and we live nearly 40 min drive away from here.

This place is way better than pet smart I discourage such people who post bad reviews on a business just because something didnt quite work for them. We need to have basic knowledge about the pets that we are planning to buy and shouldnt be a dumb expecting that the store will take care of everything. Its easy to shut something down but too hard to start.

If you support animal abuse then go to the store. I cannot tell you how many times I have been to the store that I have complained. It needs to be shut down. Animals are kept in small cages that dont mimic their environments. It was all about money for the store. I hope one day it is shut down. Years ago I purchased a couple of ground squirrels because I felt horrible for them. They were miserable living at my house and I found the missing she wary Wisconsin they gave them free range of land. And who re-introduce them to other species of their kind. This store needs to be shut down it only supports animal abuse

They have a good selection of reptile items, which is sometimes hard to find in a regular pet store. They also sell both pet rats and feeders. The staff seems knowledgeable and friendly, and were happy to help. Really great store. I will be going there from now on.

This is a great store with healthy animals and an abundance of supplies to keep them happy. Ive bought a chameleon and a parrot from this place along with all their necessary supplies and everyone / everything is in great shape. Definitely a great alternative to chain pet stores. The owner Ken is also a great guy; funny, energetic and cares deeply about his animals.

We came into the store to ask for Kittens, Sugar gliders and Bush Babies (galago). I know Bush Babies are not legal in Illinois but they’re legal in 6 other states. I just wanted to know if he knew more about permits etc. However the response from a Caucasian older male (not sure if he’s the owner or an employee) has disgraceful. He was completely condescending at first and had a horrible attitude. I continue to ask more questions as I intended to buy now or later but he continue to respond even more arrogant and irritated. He’s behavior is completely unacceptable, I simply came to get information before buying, that’s all! I don’t recommend this store unless you want to be treated unfairly and in a very condescending way. Shop somewhere else!If that’s the way he treats humans being, I bet that’s how he treats the poor animal he sells. I wouldn’t be surprise if they were abuse as well. He’s attitude was completely unacceptable! I was completely surprised by his attitude. Not sure if he’s racist or what? Regardless, everyone should be treated fairly! I only came to buy or adopt a pet!

Everyone was very friendly..i bought a hedgehod early in March, I was told HE was 10 weeks old. Now today I have 2 baby hedgehogs and now I am clueless.

Employees were very knowledgeable and friendly and gave me some good advice about choosing a bird and about making arrangement for the bird after I die since the bird will out live me. Maybe not only the type of parrot, but the age of the bird.

Amazing animals and very helpful staff willing to answer questions.

I do not recommend this place and these are the reasons why.1. I saw snake feces in one cage and a shed. This can be easily cleaned.2. Hamsters cage looked dirty according my girlfriend and she saw couple of feces scattered around the floor. The paper towel was brown too.3. Parrots looked like they were in crowded space and the birds kept by cages stacked on top of each other.4. Birds cages were wayyyyyyy too small. I also saw multiple birds in very small area.5. There were no hedgehog and ferrets and at the front of the store, they mentioned they had them.6. Some snakes did not have any hides in their cage.7. The whole place smelled weird. If they took care of the animals, this should not happen.Go at your own risk. I did because I saw overall good reviews but some very bad ones and wanted to see the enviroment.

My boyfriend and I were here a few months back and I finally remembered the name of the store so I could give it a proper review. My immediate impression was of some disgust. There were no employees on the floor and some man and his children were pulling bunnies out onto the floor and manhandling them. We had called in advance for feeder rats and has to walk to the back room after being actively ignored for 5 minutes. Turns out they didnt have what we wanted, even though they told us they did over the phone.Bird cages are stacked on top of each other. Reptiles are in improper habitats, and staff were incredibly rude.I work in a pet store and I wouldnt dare be that negligent.
