What a great county operated service! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐We arrived on Thursday 9/16 to look at some of the newer puppies just placed on the adoption list that day. Black and white lab puppies. Thats when we found Albert (named Chip by the shelter staff). 12 week old lab mix.Staff was great. Friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. I believe it was Katelyn that helped us browse the dogs and helped introduce us to our new puppy. We left, I hate making spontaneous decisions, grabbed lunch and then returned. Staff at the front desk were equally as nice.Have to note, we lost our 13 year old German Shepherd two weeks before. Our house needed a dog. My wife, my boys and I; we were just lost without the love and loyalty of our first dog. Could we even try again? Our first dog was named Einstein, so Albert for the new puppy was a fitting reminder. This dog was so well behaved! He wasnt done of the barking and hyper dogs. He wasnt aggressive, he had that gentle look of trust. He did extremely well during our visit with him. He fell in love. Its already been one week. Hes been three nights in his kennel without an accident. Hes gotten the house training down (though we still have one or two a day because its hard to tell when he wants outside). He sits on command, shakes hands, fetches, and has mastered stay so he doesnt knock us over to get to his food bowl. And he loves riding in the car. Even this morning, as soon as our six year old grabbed his backpack; Albert would run to the door, wait for his leash for the car ride to school. Even the cats love him.The best part, hes extremely calm. And does he love to cuddle! Never seen a dog so eager to lay on top of us to take a nap (cant wait till hes bigger 😲). He just loves laying with all of us, get his head scratched, and fall fast sleep.Thank you Lexington County Animal Shelter! You provided us with a truly awesome pet! Hes already well loved, learning numerous tricks and so well behaved!
Not respectful at all. Then they waited all day to tell me they hade my dog then gave my dog a shot with out my permission. Worst place i have ever hade to deal with.
The workers are very helpful and they do not rush you to find your next pet. The place is clean too for so many animals. We found our puppy and we love her.
The rules and regulations have changed so much. It makes it very difficult to get any help. Only in Lexington County are you thrown to the Wolfes literary speaking. I have more experience then some of these people working there. Shameful
Nice people . Great with the pets . Dont forget them if you are looking for a new pet
Great customer service! Adorable dogs and cats that need and deserve loving homes! We just adopted 2 kittens wish we could have adopted more!
My darling Franklin came from here and I couldnt be happier. The facilities are clean and the staff really have their hearts in the right place. They let me come in and visit with the cats until I found one that was just right. The adoption fee is incredibly low and includes more then a lot of shelters. Id happily go back here. Give a shelter a try when looking for a pet. This place is great.Update: I think Frank and his brother Charlie (also from here) are pretty happy this place does what they do too. Love my babies so much! Keep up the great work!
Compassionate with 15yr Family Cat Cross over the Rainbow, Thank you forAll yall Do for Our Lords Blessings ofPets
Workers are awesome. Take great care of the animals. Knowledgeable of each animal. Takes the time to answer each question.
Heartless. I reported a horse that is being neglected and they did absolutely nothing. You can see his ribs and hips. The woman barely feeds him. And this is the second report. And still the horse suffers
Our 10 year old Duke went missing for the first time ever & we were worried sick. We walked in 2 minutes before they closed, after confirming he wasnt there, they took their time explaining different resources and websites to help our search. Not once did they get frustrated with us or try to rush us out, they were sympathetic, understanding and it meant so much. Our story has a happy ending, thanks to their guidance Duke was reunited with us! We cant thank you enough!
Dropped off donation of slip leashes and dry dog food. Staff was friendly and, from what I could see, facility is well maintained and clean.
Cant say enough good things about Dr Murphy and his staff. My babies have been seeing him many years now. So do my sisters babies. We just love him. He is so caring and understanding. Will never go anywhere else
4 years ago we adopted April(brown dog) from the here. She has held our hearts ever since. Shes seriously the best dog ever. So this weekend we decided it was time for another for baby. So off to LCAS we went and that where we met Bindi (Australian cattle mix) we were able to take her outside and instantly fell in love. Its been 3 days and Bindi is just as perfect as April. Thank you LCAS for our babies❤ our hearts and home is now complete.
I had a problem with a possum. They would great in helping me with information!
They were wonderful! Everyone we spoke to really cared about our dog! I want to thank them!!!!
Nice folks. The really seem to care about the animals.
I was there to drop off some food and treats for the 4leggers. Previously I have been there to look for missing pet.You can tell from the behavior of animals how they are being treated.... It is well here, insofar as I can tell.Btw. Please consider bringing a senior little one into your life. The blessings of such are unmatched.
My husband and I decided to adopt a pet here. The adoption fee is $20 for the whole month of December. The dog cages were clean and they each had those hanging heat lamps to keep them warm. The reason I gave such a low score is because the dogs have FLEAS! We adopted a 3 year old male Lhasa Apso for our 5 year old son. When he got into our car, he didnt just smell horrible, but he was also FULL OF FLEAS!! Another dilemma was we couldnt give him a bath because he had just been neutered 4 days prior. It was too cold to leave him outside, so we had no choice but to bring him in the house. I had to designate him to one area of the house so that he wont spread fleas everywhere. However, he smelled so bad and his coat so tangled, I had to give him a bath before the required 14 days of healing. I didnt touch his incision site, so luckily it didnt burst open. I wouldnt recommend anyone else try that though. Ill insert a picture of him after his bath.Another thing that didnt work for us was, we wouldnt play with our son. That was the main reason we adopted the dog. He would growl and bark at him and wouldnt let my son touch him. He would let me, my husband, and older kids pet him and carry him, but not my 5 yr. Then I read somewhere online that Lhasa apsos dont do very well with small children. We believe that he may have had something traumatic happen to him in his past just by the way he didnt even want to be near our son. We tried to get him interested in wanting to play with my son but he just wouldnt do it. We ended up taking him back because he refused to play with my son. Was sad to see him go but he wasnt the right fit for my family. Upon returning him to the shelter, my husband had to fill out paperwork stating why we were returning him. While my husband was filling out the paperwork, a customer came in to aquire about adopting a dog. The customer asked a shelter employee if the animals have fleas and the employee straight lied and said No. If they get rid of the fleas, take better care of the animals, and stop lying to the customers, then this may be a great place to adopt a pet.
Got a puppy from here about 2 weeks ago now. only had her for a week and we paid $180 just to get her tested for parvo which she had from the pound. spent $100 just to get the vet to see her then $800 for treatment, she died. thanks for not letting us know our puppy had parvo she would still be alive if we knew what she had but y’all told us she was perfectly healthy.
My boyfriend and I walked into the shelter. Immediately, we were greeted by a very knowledgeable, young lady who helped us find our dream dog! She gave great advice on introducing our newly adopted husky to our other puppy. The staff was helpful while processing the adoption papers and explaining things to us. Thank you for the positive experience!
We adopted two cats from this shelter. The cat room was clean, odor free and neat considering there were 6 cats being housed together. That’s pretty amazing of you ask me; my “boys” can make a mess and I only have the two! The staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back if are ever looking for another pet.
Seen this pup on the county website and fell in love. I already knew I was getting this little lady before I got there but appreciated that the staff was nice and allowed me the chance to see others that were available. I deducted one star bc of how dirty the place was. I wouldnt think its normally nasty but bc I went first thing on a Monday morning they may not have had the chance to wash out the kennels yet after being closed on Sunday. I would recommend adopting from here to anyone looking for a fur baby.
Unfortunately, I keep having to call them to come out. Not always to give a fine either but to eliminate a dog being loose in Lexington County. Mr. Clemons was very understanding of what I wanted. I was also impressed by his ability to get the the truth about the situation. Granted, having everything on CCTV doesnt help anything either. Of course the officer can use that as leverage. Nonetheless, I was very pleased with the results and the different approach.
I adopted my little girl from here almost 2yrs ago now. I rave all the time about how its like a 5 star hotel. Have been keeping my eye open as Id like to add another little girl to our family. The funniest thing is when I went to adopt ms. Piggy she was listed as a chow chow/ German shepherd. My little Kona Kai will be 2 in August, and weighs 22lbs. I couldnt be happier with my little nut, and love that she actually is completely opposite of what they thought. Her and my Tigga are the best of buddies.
Unfortunately I had to take a community cat in, very injured. But the staff was nice as I cried, and very gentle.
I just want to say thank you for all you do for the animal community and for making people happy with pet adoptions. When I visited, your facility was nice and adoption was easy. I am thankful that you care about animals and that Lexington has a nice place to adopt them.
Love this place. Ive adopted 4 loving dogs in the last 5 years
They were awesome
Did a great job helping with a new companion. Meet and greet with our dog and the new addition belied us make am informed decision. Also chipped our current companion while we were there for a $10 fee. Thanks to all the staff
I loved it, I went to look at all the animals, my daughters wants a young kitten, I was looking at everything I have lots of rescue animals. These guys work their but off to care for and try to place animals before things are out of their hands. They are the only thing standing for the well being of the animal who was most probably abused. I personally applaud these individuals that at most of the time they put those animals first and themselves second. Very involved and busy great jobs guys
I got the most wonderful dog from here but whoever had him nurtured must have done something wrong and they had no remorse for it and wouldnt do anything for him.
I went up here to see if they had any small dogs for my mother in law who lives off Polo Rd. I wanted to see if they even had anything before she drove all the way over here. No one acted too interested that I had even walked through the door, much less helping me with looking at what was available. When at the window everyone looks at each other like they needed to flip a coin on who was going to have to help me. Finally I asked if I could see what was available. I am very aware that my mother in law should and would want to see her pet she would be adopting. I was told a few times that I shouldn’t surprise her with bringing a pet to her. That was not even discussed, a surprise dog for her. All I asked was to see what was available and ask some questions about them.It looked as though there were about 4 working in plain clothes and then 4-5 Animal Control in uniform. Everyone was enjoying talking and not interested in doing their job. Someone could have been cleaning the kennels or filling up the dogs knocked over water bowls. One had even rolled out into the dirt out of his cage. Very Disappointed, Needs Improvements!!!
I’ve had to call animal control a few times. Officers Clemons and Jenson both have come out and were very professional and knowledgeable. Officer Clemons was very nice and officer Jenson offered a lot of information on dog behavior and training for my own dog.
We adopted our dog from here when he was six months old. He’s the best dog we have ever had 💙
Great staff and such cute animals! Adopt dont shop
They have been looking for a dog for me. Yes, thought I was getting Chester last week. He got adopted by someone else. Yeah! 🐶👍 sad then I was happy he found His Forever home. Hope to see if they have Palmer, this morning. God will be done. Thank goodness we have the shelter. Lexington County is awesome 👍🐶🐶🐶🇺🇸🇺🇸
I rescued my sweet girl, Arya, from here in June and she is the happiest, silliest and just the best addition to our family we could have asked for.
Such a neat place! Seats were a little close together, but otherwise a great experience. Well thought out venue.
We bought Jackson 3 years ago from Lexington animal services when we got him his name was Rudolf it was Christmas time and a few weeks ago we got Finn! We can not be any happier they took to each other like they was long lost brothers!! Thank yall so much, love Jackson and Finn!!! 💓
Got our pitbull King from there. Amazing people there just let them know what youre looking for and theyll try to match you up with the right pet.
Helped alot of getting my cousins puppy better form having parvo
When I went in the door, they were ready for my cat and had his name on a Carrier, and the guy that came to get the pets was very nice and friendly,he carried a scared pitbull to the back,my cat has had no problems arise from his neautering, I was warmly welcomed and thanked for patronizing their clinic, I highly recommend it for spay/neuter, and my kitty only cost $30 for his neutering, and sometimes they have specials on fixing your pet,all in all it was a pleasant experience.
Quick and pleasant
Should get 10 stars!!! I rescued my Lab/Beagle named Maddie about 7 months ago. She is the sweetest, happiest, friendliest dog you’d ever want to meet. She makes friends wherever she goes!I am so grateful for the people at Lexington County Animal Shelter. Brittany helped me with the whole adoption process. She was absolutely professional, courteous, knowledgeable and genuinely cared for all of the animals. All of the animals are so well taken care of...it’s not your “typical” animal shelter...If you want a caring, loving pet go checkout Lexington County Animal Shelter on Ball Park Road in Lexington!Joseph Ioveno

Lisa is amazing!! Our apartment complex likes to do a pet adoption day. They come out with some of their fur babies and residents are able to come to the club house and come adopt. Thank you Lisa for doing this for us!
Very nice staff whom found my lost puppy dog and I am ever indebted too..Thanks
This place goes beyond just housing pets. They do there best in adopting out pets, finding lost or stolen pets and just do really good with all they do for pets
Great place, very clean and friendly. We got 2 amazing puppies and love them much.
They were wonderful cam and helped us retreive a new foster pet
Excellent place
Great people and place! Went for a kitty adopted a Kitty and a Doggy.. went back again and got another Kitty!! Love them! They’re the best!!
We adopted our dog from Lexington Animal Services 5 years ago as a puppy. She has been the best dog we have had. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Thank you all!
I have adopted two dogs and a cat from them. All my experiences were great. And my animals, well they are very spoiled and loved. ❤
I have adopted 4 adorable animals, 2 dogs and 2 cats. They where really nice and made sure we where satisfied before we left. The animals are super helthey. I would definitely recommend to go there. Remember they do not hold animals for you.
Best dog I ever had came from here. Ppl there seem to really care. Def recommend getting a pet from there.
I’m very happy with my puppy that I adopted, what I’m not happy with is the fact that the staff members LIED straight to my face telling me 30 day pet insurance that comes with the adoption will cover for the booster shots or any other shots for free. Come the day of taking her to the vet I found out the only thing they cover for is a medical exam. So I called animal shelter back and they act like they don’t know what I’m talking about. If you like being lied to and this is the place to go.
The cleaners shelter I ever been!
Almost 2 years ago, my wife and I adopted a kitten from Lex. County Animal Services. We are overwhelmingly happy with that choice. The staff allowed us the time to spend with all the kittens so that we could narrow it down to the perfect cat for our daughter. My Mom and Dad adopted a 2 year old Rottweiler mix shelter dog about 10 years ago from Westcott. Sadly their dog, Reese died of old age a couple months ago. I took my Dad to their shelter yesterday and he found a 10 month old Black Lab mix that tugged on his heart. My parents named her Muffin. Again, the adoption was simple and straight forward and when considering all the shots and that she is spayed, it was very inexpensive. My father payed $42. Muffin is settling in and again, my family and I are overjoyed.
No kill shelter and im sure you can find a new friend their
They werent helpful but were at least friendly
They do their part towards the circle of life....😜
My family drove out just to be told there website is wrong and they dont have any pets to adopt. My son was heartbroken.
Just recently adopted a 7 month old pitbull lab mix from this facility and i tip my hat to these guys my cherry (now named COCO) is the most healthiest sweetest baby ever thank you lexington county animal services for bringing this joy into my life.
Rebecca was such a pleasure! She made the adoption process so easy by giving us great information on our dogs history at the shelter and suggestions to keep her happy and healthy for many years to come.
My Jack Russel dog, Hunter, was euthanized yesterday at the shelter. She was 15 years old and suffering from end stage Congestive Heart failure. She and I were treated with upmost dignity and sincere empathy from the moment I entered the office door to the time her body was brought to me draped in a beautiful feminine cloth. and on top of the cloth was a keepsake imprint of her paw print with her name itched on it. Their extra effort and kindness will never be forgotten. They made a very difficult situation into a very loving memory. May God Bless each staff member who took part in ending her misery.
We got the two cutest cats there.
Knowledgeable and very helpful when a pet goes missing. The facility is clean and welcoming.
My family adopted 2 dogs from there today. The staff were absolutely delightful. We are beyond happy with pyr new fur babies. I highly recommend that everyone adopt from here ❤
Awesome experience. Check here for your next family member...just as good...much less invasive to adopt...same selection of animals as private shelters...much cheaper.
I wish I could give Lexington county no stars. Part of animal service is to pick up dead animals. I woke up to a stray dog dead in my yard and they tell me they won’t pick it up because it’s on my property? I was told if the animal was in the road they would pick it up. I have two well taken care of dogs and I don’t want them to possibly get sick from me handling the burial of this poor dog. If Lexington won’t pick up the dead strays that weren’t taken care of by their owners, Lexington need better rules for people who are allowed to own dogs. I’m completely and utterly dissatisfied with the non help.
They were very helpful when there was a hurt feral cat that showed up at my house.
Prompt service. Employees were very helpful.
I adopted my pup. They were very nice .They take of the dogs very well.
Somebody took the chain off my boy Loki, then shot and killed him and animal control wouldnt do a damn thing about it. I even told them who did it and still they did nothing. I this person has killed 20 or more dogs and has them buried in his back yard and at 2437 sharpes hill rd Gaston SC.
I still have all kinds of dogs running around my neighbor hood
Officer was polite and addressed my concerns with compassion and understanding.
Great place to find the perfect pet for your family..
We were put in a position by a person who abandoned his dog at our house. Being handicapped I was unable to care for or keep this large dog. The staff at the animal shelter were very understanding of our situation and helpful in getting the paperwork handled for surrender as well as recoverying the dog from my vehicle. The dog was taken back by a very helpful and friendly young lady and the dog was put at ease and had showed no signs of hesitation going with her. The owner was given a follow up call later that day to have the opportunity to reclaim the pet but again declined with them. The staff did all they could in their control to exhaust all resources to get him home. I am thankful. I am praying now that they can rehome this big guy as he is really is a great dog and was just unfortunate in who he called his master.
Very kind to animals... and clean officce along with attentive customer service💚👏
Very helpful reuniting me with my lost cat!!
Staff was very friendly and very helpful .. adopted this little guy while I was there .. honestly the best experience Ive had with a shelter and Ace is perfect .. now just getting him trained 💖
Was very attentive to why I was calling
Fell absolutely in love with a particular dog but you must be escorted in and we were not allowed to see the dog off leash. Also, the staff member seemed particularly rushed and ushered us out when we wanted to see more dogs.
Adopted every pet we have from them. Our oldest turns 10 this year!
Great experience, no complaints and we have a precious puppy who is healthy and happy.
Kind people, very helpful
Terrible. Wont even pick up stray cats anymore. A waste of tax dollars now, as far as Im concerned.
Went there and reported our dog missing. Was told I would be contacted if she came in. Went back to see if they heard anything. Was told they adopted her out and cant help us in any way. Horrible experience. Broke my daughter and granddaughters hearts
Good people
They were very helpful.
