I love this place! If you want to learn martial arts, this is the place. I have been a member for almost a year. I look forward to each jujitsu class and getting an awesome workout. Learning jujitsu has taught me many different life skills at the young age of 50 years. If I can do it, so can you. John and Monica have built a friendly community atmosphere of students. Hope to see you on the Mat!

I’ve had one child here for almost 3 years and my other for almost a year. We love that they have learned self confidence, self esteem, and self defense. I can write a super long review but I’ll keep it short and sweet. Great communication, great flexible class schedule, amazing catering staff, super clean building & parking lot. We have 0 plans to ever go anywhere else.

My guy suffers from extremely low self confidence and PTSD. I surely thought putting him in an activity like this would just ruin him, but I had to try something. They have helped him grow so much in the short time we’ve been here! They’ve taken him under their wings and have guided him so much that he’s getting his confidence back! We love CMA! They’ve been life savers, literally!!

The community at CMA is second to none. Everyone from the staff to fellow students are friendly and welcoming. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and always happy to answer questions. After procrastinating for years I am so happy I decided to finally start Jiu Jitsu training, my only regret being not starting sooner. If you’re looking for top notch training then I’d highly recommend getting in touch with the staff at Champagne’s today.

I don’t think you could find a better, more encouraging place to practice BJJ, and the fact that it’s right here in Lafayette makes me feel incredibly fortunate. The instructors are top-notch and take their roles seriously, but allow for a safe, fun environment to learn and grow.I really like their focus on the real-world applications of Jiu Jitsu, their mix of gi and no-gi, and then way they structure their lessons throughout the week — but more than any of that, I appreciate the culture they’ve built, from a white belt beginner like me up through the higher ranks. The people here are respectful, kind, and supportive and all about helping each other learn. That’s no accident. Check them out, you won’t regret it.

I’ve always been interested in Martial Arts, but I was always hesitate to take the next step and actually join a gym. I’m a 36 year old married father of two young boys, and I had no misconceptions about becoming a cage fighter! I wanted the most practical form of self defense. All of my research lead me to Jiu Jitsu. The family environment at Champagne’s is what initially got my attention. I signed myself and my sons up for the New Year trial period. We were blown away by how helpful and friendly everyone was! The instructors were great, and the other students treated us like we were part of the family! I’m now a full member and am so thankful to have found my Jiu Jitsu home! They’ve got the skill to train high level competitors, but also have the patience to train a complete novice like me haha. Come and check out Champagne’s Martial Arts! We’d be happy to have you as part of our family!

CMA is a wonderful BJJ training facility. The diverse set of instructors and fellow classmates is very welcoming and quickly become friends.Jiu Jitsu is unrivaled as a mechanism for personal development, as it best compliments individual and communal pursuits. You will grow as a person and in this community while exercising your mind, body, and spirit. While learning self defense you will also learn to defeat your vices; pride, weakness, and ignorance. You will learn from everyone here, regardless of their rank or skill level. You will learn to quit making excuses. You will learn much about your mind and your body; what it is and isn’t capable of.All-in-all, CMA is an excellent place to introduce yourself to an art that is so useful to living.

I have been training with Champagnes Martial Arts Academy for more than 15 years now. I have gone through their Karate Program as a child and young adult, receiving my Black Belt from Sensei John, and now train in the adult Jiu-Jitsu class. John and Monica Champagne have mentored and motivated me for more than half of my life, and continue to do so to this day. Whether you are a parent looking to teach your child valuable self defense skills and boost their confidence or an adult looking to improve your fitness while learning high quality Jiu-Jitsu techniques, Champagnes Martial Arts Academy is the place for you!

To be perfectly honest it feels bias to give a 5 star review. It shouldnt though, I have no family, or personal relationship with John or Monica (the owners) besides the relationship that has developed through martial arts. I started training karate at 9 years old. The rest is history. I eventually achieved the rank of black belt. Then I began teaching their kids classes. And eventually I was able to open my own martial arts school. John and Monica were always supportive of my dreams. John was even the best man at my wedding. All this happened simply because I fell in love with karate, and Champagne Martial Arts.

This place is great. I recently started Jiu-Jitsu here after attending HIIT fitness classes for a year and I LOVE it!! Their instructors, methods, and professionalism go beyond any expectation. I was welcomed into the class and really enjoy the technique demonstrations and practice sessions with supervision to ensure appropriate execution. Not to mention the gorgeous new practice room. We work hard but it is all so rewarding. The Champagnes definitely provide a top level experience in all of their classes.

I started training BJJ at Champagnes Martial Arts Academy almost two years ago, and I couldnt be more satisfied. From the first day I attended class, I felt welcome and I was impressed in how technical the instructors and students were with the training. John and Monica do a great job of breaking down the techniques and everyone is willing to show you how to improve on your mistakes. The environment is clean and family friendly. Whether you want to get in shape, improve your ground game, learn self-defense, or have an outlet for the kids, this is the place.

If you are reading this review, the chances are that you are toying with the idea of either starting or continuing a martial arts journey. If you are like I was, there is a good chance you have made excuses to yourself as to why you shouldnt. Here were mine, maybe somebody can relate to these:1. I am too old, or out of shape, or both...I am 48 and have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for four years now and can see easily me doing this into my 60s or beyond. The art itself is amazing, but also my cardio is now better than most anyone I know my age and even better than some of the 20ish year olds I have seen.2. The location is not convenient for me....I live an hour away. If you want it you can make it happen. Even though there are closer options for me this place is worth the drive, I promise you.3. I am too busy...I am in a highly active sales position and I average 1,000 miles a week on the road and I am very involved in ministry, yet I still find the time to train 3 to 4 times a week on average. It started with one class and working my way up to that though, so do what you can, but just do something. There are plenty of other excuses we can all make, my advice is just step on the mat and go with that feeling that you need to be a better you. John and Monica Champagne are class act individuals and excellent trainers, the family you will gain with your teammates is hard to explain but is nothing like I have ever encountered in my military or fraternity experiences, and you will grow by being a less stressful person with improved physical fitness.

I signed up for a 6-week womens self-defense class at Champagnes Martial Arts and here I am 3 years later still taking classes there. I was extremely nervous to set foot in the co-ed jiu-jitsu class, but as soon as I did, I felt right at home. I had no prior martial arts experience (I am almost 35), yet John and Monica teach in such a way that make it easy to catch on to and they always go above and beyond for their students. If you want to learn self-defense and meet some really cool people (that are more like family), then I highly recommend this school!

As a former bodybuilder for over 25 years, I always thought of myself as a tough and confident man. Two and a half years ago, at the age of 42, I decided to sign up at Champagne’a Martial Arts and join their adult jiu jitsu class, and it was then that I realized I wasn’t as tough as I thought I was. Doesn’t matter how strong you are, jiu jitsu will always win. So today, I don’t acknowledge myself as a body builder anymore. I am a student of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and I’ve learned so much in 2.5 years. With that being said, not only will the excellent staff here at Champagne’s Martial Arts educate you in learning the jiu jitsu art, the students here will also help you learn as well. We’re all one team helping each other to improve each other’s skills. Today, I’m more confident in self-defense skills and I feel I’m much prepared to protect myself or anyone who can’t defend themselves. Furthermore, the comradery we have here will allow you to learn jiu jitsu, make new friends and get a great workout. The same applies to kids classes as well. My son has been a student here for over five years. So give us a call and/or stop by to see exactly what we do. You will truly enjoy it 👍

In high school, I enrolled in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a gym in Jennings, LA and I immediately fell in love with the sport. I did it for a year and a half, and enjoyed every bit of it. I knew I loved the high intensity and active sport, but I felt like there was something missing. I stopped training when I graduated high school and since then (2015), I am enrolled at UL at Lafayette. I wanted to start training BJJ again but didn’t really wanted the same experience where I felt like something was missing. It took a while but I finally found my way to Champagne’s Martial Arts Academy (January 2019). When I got there I was welcomed by John Champagne (instructor) and a couple other trainees there. The establishment as a whole is an amazing and inviting atmosphere. Because I had a different experience at my last gym, I didn’t know what to expect. This gym, and everyone enrolled there, exceeded my expectations. The loving and inviting environment, makes you feel like family. Besides the quality of the training, the people was a priority for me. Now, as far as the training quality, it is hands down one of the best. The instructors, John, Monica and Blaze are VERY knowledgeable and make sure you do not leave class not knowing every aspect of what was gone over. They also teach a lot of great life aspects as well, like respect, self discipline and responsibility and they really embrace the true meaning of the sport, as does everyone training there. Everyone in class is there to help if you don’t understand or don’t think you can do a certain technique. Everyone there is trying to make themselves and you better at the sport. No one is there to hurt you or make you feel like you have lost. Also, if you are trying to get in shape like was it is an excellent way to workout without actually feeling like you are doing so. Before I went to Champagne’s Martial Arts Academy, I dont really know where I wanted to live/work, but I knew I wanted to train BJJ. Believe it or not, this gym helped me make my decision in staying in the Lafayette area for hopefully a very long time. If you don’t think you are equipped for the sport, I can promise you otherwise. Whether it is to get in shape, protect yourself, or just because you love the sport, (my reasons) this place is a great place to start if you have the opportunity. Hope to see you on the mat!
