This place is amazing! Its just I am 19 going on 20 years old and have custody of my 2 brothers ages 13 and 11 and full custody of my daughter and would love to be able to stay here for vacations without someone who is 25 so we can come on our own for vacations with the four bedroom ocean view rooms. But other than that, great place! But if at all possible, please allow us to come on our own here for vacations! π
We have stayed at the most highly ranked resorts/properties around the globe, and Sunset Key Cottages ranks among the very best! It is a 10/10 - everything was flawless. The staff were helpful/friendly (no one ever said βnoβ), the entire property was clean/immaculately maintained, the location is incredible, etc. I have stayed very few places that I felt were a βmust-returnβ - this is one of those. We will keep coming back on a regular basis!
We had a wonderful stay. The cottages are very nice and we loved going through our baskets every morning and evening. The staff is amazing and they are very focused on customer satisfaction. We enjoyed eating at the pool and the kids loved the popsicles and ice cream. If you have the chance to stay here, do it!
We have been going to Sunset Key Cottages for about 20+ years. We stayed at the Cottages again on 5/21-24/21 and the experience was terrible. The property continues to be beautifully cared for. The service, however, was terrible. The property is now being managed by Opal. Everything dealing with the employees everyday was wrong (boat personnel, wait staff, housekeeping, management). We finally met with the manager to let her know how disappointed we were. She smiled and did not care. She sent a text to tell us she cared. So, we spelled out more issues in a response, but again she just sent a generic answer and did not deal with any of the issues. We have decided that we will not stay at Sunset Key Cottages any longer.
Loved our ocean front cottage. 2 bed and 3 bath makes it easy with kids.
A must do. The food was amazing. We went twice during our week on Key West
I would definitely say the island, cottages and staff were awesome. Made our business/pleasure stay really relaxing. My one issue was an incident on the ferry shuttle back and forth. Being white, I did witness the injustice to people of color. The captain scathingly demeaned a group of women of color about mask wearing. Yes, their policy was clear and one young lady had it pulled down and was outside. I was supportive of captain and crew until multiple trips back and forth and witnessed multiple white people without masks or pulled down without reprimand. Just be fair and make ALL wear a mask if that is your policy.
Still looks brand new. Landscape is impeccable. Room furniture needs inspection for minor repairs. A couple of broken banquet chairs were put out into reception. Thankfully no accidents.
Least to say that I am very disappointed with the rocky beach and lack of space to walk or swim. (The service, food, and amenities was great, however, we could barely get into the ocean)This resort ONLY has a very small strip of beach access (which is not accessible as they have rocks in the beach) and the remaining 3/4 of this island is non-accessible to resort members. Three fourth of the island is for private residences and NO access for visitors to even walk around the island to see sunset. If you are on the east side you wonβt be able to sunrise as you will be blocked by key west island which is in right front of you. The website photos reads and looks like that you have access to the island but it is not. Condos are very nice but I could have stayed home to just stay in a nice place.
5 stars is not good enough!!! 7 STARS is more appropriate. Everything from luxury treatment, grounds, customer service, the cottages are beautiful and very spacious. Pictures do not do justice! It is a must see and must experience!
What an absolutely awesome stay. We were down Saturday and Sunday last weekend and had an absolute blast. The resort staff and bartenders and servers were probably tired of us, but they were all great. The grounds are beautiful and the cottages were very nice. I canβt say enough good things about this place and everyone there. We just had an amazing time and met some really great people. Including Bill, who had a Teaserβs story that topped ours. Everyone should stay here that can. Itβs a luxury escape from the madness of Key West but literally right across from Key West. I loved it. I hope to come back again sooner than later.
Beautiful resort. Very clean facilities and pool. Food excellent. Bring a pair of water shoes for beach. Rocky
This place is unbelievable. Great for families. Amazing food. Very nice cottages and the staff literally could not be friendlier or more attentive. Book now!
We had a beautiful cottage right on the beach...very nicely appointed...all the things you would need for a relaxing night away. Food at the restaurant was excellent! We are planning to go back again later this month.
Great hard working staff. Wonderful service. They are a little understaffed due to the pandemic but the current staff is working very hard.
I did a lot of research on Key West on where to stay. What was important to us was: seclusion, relaxation, not too far from some fun, and a nice beach other. Sunset Key exceeded our expectations in every way. The short boat ride to the island was quick and always on time. The staff at the resort is so friendly. From the concierge, front desk, room attendants, pool staff, and so on, every single employee always greets you with a βhelloβ and a friendly smile. Brianna made us feel like royalty anytime we needed her help. The pool is great. The food is great. Not a ton of options for non seafood people (my wife) but enough. The cottages were perfect and comfy. The beach was nice and sandy. The ocean is rocky like I read on some reviews. Bring some water shoes. But other than that there is plenty of space at the beach and plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The nightly basket (orange juice and a sweet treat) was always a nice surprise. The morning pastries were perfect for a light breakfast and we always had more than enough. The all around seclusion of the island was perfect for relaxation and a short boat ride to all the life of key west. The grocery service was really nice (we ordered a couple days before we arrived). Donβt plan on cooking much. They do have a stove top and microwave but no oven. Sunset Key is perfect and we canβt wait to come back. The absolute ONLY complaint is their phone system sucks. Before arriving I could never get ahold of the front desk. And while here it was about the same. Luckily, they text you. We had a direct line to text and they were always super responsive! I think eventually they go home and close the texting service but it made up for not being able to get ahold by calling. Also, we noticed when we got off the boat to check in, we had no clue where to go. We noticed this two other times with other people we saw arriving. No clear signage and no one telling you where to go. A big sign would help! When you get off the dock, just stop at the first large building on the right. Thatβs where you check in. We look forward to returning!
The review for this property is rather simple. I just spent a week there with friends and family, in a cottage. First, let me say we had a good time. Most of the staff were very friendly. The pool bar staff work their tails off. The natural grounds of the private island were in good shape, but the place is in dire need of someone to walk around and fix the details. On one hand, you would see people painting wood at the main building, yet fences near the pool were filthy and broken, a clock and thermometer by the pool were broken and in bad shape. When we called and asked for bug spray because our cottage was full of mosquitos, we were told there were no mosquitos on the island. When we tried room service, it kept going to voicemail. When we called again, they said theyd call us back and didnt. So, we called the front desk and they finally got someone to call us. So, where this resort falls apart is the value for money. At the rates charged, the service should be exemplary and consistent and it isnt. The cabins should be perfect, but they are in need of update and repair. Our chair was stained and the table top was in poor shape. Our restaurant bill the first night, came with large handwriting at the top Gratuities Not Included! Look, at the end of the day, if this place was at least 35% less expensive, it wouldve been totally fine. But, if you charge $2,000+ per night for a cottage, it should be perfect. As for Travel + Leisures Worlds Best Awards 2021, Im afraid they missed the mark with this one. Best in the Key West area? Maybe. Worlds Best? No way. Its okay, just okay. Im NOT saying it was horrible. The weather was great. It was pretty. And, for the record, when we brought this up to a manager, he waived the resort fee for the stay. Would I book there again? No. Would I recommend it to friends? No. But, it appears to be very booked and theyre getting these rates.
We had an amazing stay at Sunset Key for my birthday. The staff was welcoming and DJ, the manager, went out of his way to make sure the resort exceeded all expectations. The cottages are spacious and nicely decorated. The beach is sizable and the waitstaff is roaming around constantly refilling waters and taking orders. We had a delicious waterside dinner under the stars and the tennis courts, daily rum tastings and daily ice cream offering are all just part of the charm. I would highly recommend this resort for a special occasion or a family trip.
Great place, book way way way in advance. They have free transportation to island. A must
It was excellent Great food friendly staff they couldnt do enough to make your time with them special. And great sunset views and great ocean views. I will come Back.
We had a blast!! This place is awesome. People are so friendly!
Amazing! Great secluded place in Key West. Hard to get but keep trying its worth it.
This is a long review and if you read it all then I promise you will truly know what your getting in to. But when Its only my 1st full day and I already have to write a review itβs not going to look good. Wish I could say great about this very expensive trip. There are a lot of bad things bringing it down. There are definitely lots of corners cut. Very few utensils along with lamps not turning on are just 2 small things that add up to what ultimately is little value. The WiFi is really bad. Iβm surprised I was able to access this webpage to review it in under 2 minutes. If you need to do lots of work while youre here and you need fast WiFi then probably reconsider. The βdaily room serviceβ is very poor. They come at the most inconvenient times and do not come daily. We told them we were taking a day trip so to try to do housekeeping between 8-5 but yet they come at 6:30 when weβre all back at our cottage preparing for dinner. Even after we called for room service they still didnβt come. The weather is amazing anytime between October-April. Best months are December, January and February. There is little beach and the βbeachβ that there is is very rocky and non enjoyable. The food they send you every night and morning is no where as good to the restaurants food. There are a lot of little things like very little coffee to non working toilets that make you re think the price again. Pool bar closes at 6:00 PM every day which forces you to go the the expensive restaurant for just a drink. The pool is nice but it does not get deep at all so if you think you can do laps think again. The ice maker is deficient and is very loud. Just today we left our pool stuff on a chair and they took it off and put it somewhere, didnβt tell us and we lost it. The staff here acts bothered to be there and is not helpful. The people act entitled and spoiled. This is starting to sound like a 1 star review but I put 2 here because the fact that you canβt get over the nice weather. The restaurant food is great. The service is the main questionable part. the staff here is not great. We couldnβt check in for an hour because we had to wait for our grandparents who had booked the trip and we needed confirmation. Even though they and us sent like 20 emails saying that we were all in a group we still had to wait a while for our grandparents to get here. Staff members overall could be nicer and easier to work with. For example I called to say that we hadnβt gotten βdaily housekeepingβ for 4 days and a woman said that it was probably our fault and she didnβt even apologize. It is probably still a good resort in key west-still, even all the negatives about it. But if youre on a budget or really mind small things then maybe reconsider. I donβt know, maybe these negatives only happened to me and maybe Iβm just unlucky but definitely reconsider. Also itβs funny how the owner only responds to generally positive comments.
Very beautiful and romantic place to eat sunsets are incredible
Staff is rude and threatening. Had them scream at us about wearing a mask outside exercising no where near other people. Witnessed them scream at children. They threaten that it is a law until you call them out on it, when in fact it is an ordinance. They threaten to have you arrested for not wearing it. We were in a group of about 45 people and everyone complained about something... plumbing issues, reservation confusion, rooms not maintained, and of course being screamed at/threatened alllllllll weekend. We will not be back. Come here if you want to be harrarrassed, threatened, or bullied. Can find many more places that would appreciate your business and are just as pretty in the great FREE country.I will leave/end with a positive...Very pretty place
Sunset Key is beautiful. The view is amazing, food and drinks are great. But, donβt expect to be welcomed with a beautiful smile, a drink, or even a welcome aboard. Instead, if you are on the boat occupied by first mate Dennis, expect rudeness and just meeting a downright miserable person. Dennis - go find your happy place. Itβs obviously not in paradise.
Great locationVery nice house to rent,,clean bed is so comfortable you wont want to wake up
Breathtaking!!! Cant wait to go back!! Awesome service!!
Absolutely beautiful. Everything is spotless. Latitudes restaurant is amazing. The service is second to none. The view is breathtaking.
Fantastic views, food, service, and ask for Dan. Hes the bomb!ππ€
Iβm sure at one point this place was great but the ferry staff has ruined this trip for me and my family. They have been given a false sense of authority by the resort over mask policy. Our 4 year daughter has been yelled at repeatedly to the point where she feels uncomfortable getting on it to go back to the mainland. I myself have been yelled and snapped at several times while adjusting my mask. Weβve been extremely compliant but the staff on the ferry have ruined our trip due simply to attitude. I am looking forward to filling an inquiry through American Express because this trip hasnβt been enjoyable simply due to their attitude. Weβre extremely easy going people. We overlooked the termites in our room, and the fact that only 2 of 3 toilets worked. My wifeβs Louis Vuitton purse is infected with termites and we were ok with allowing them to treat the room while we were gone for the day. We understand that termites and insects are just part of the tropics and that didnβt affect us a bit. We are simply upset that the customer service stops at the ferry dock. I wouldnβt recommend this resort and I donβt plan on paying for this stay even if I end up on court.
My favorite placeβ₯οΈ
Perfect location, boat trip to the Island adds to the experience. Food delicious, service attentive, given the times the Staff do everything to make it great.
Like several other reviewers and guests, we too had a horrible experience simply due to the hotel staff on the ferry. They need to kind their own business and drive the boat. I have an obvious physical medical condition, that anyone who looks at me would recognize, which can sometimes prevent me from being able to wear a mask. I felt called out and made an example of regularly throughout our trip. The lack of understanding, customer service, and overall decency on the ferry is palpable. My wife cried out of embarrassment due to the attention that was drawn to us on behalf of the ferry crew simply due to being publicly called out for simply needing to use an inhaler for a few moments. The crew said that the coast guard would fine them but thatβs just an excuse. I highly doubt the coast guard is going to pull over a ferry to enforce a county ordinance. Masks arenβt currently required statewide but only in Monroe county.
This is a beautiful island. Housing is amazing.
Great place to have dinner, latitudes!!ππ
Just an amazing place and you really are on your own island.
Cottage/room was very clean, staff was very friendly and accommodating. Brianna A. Made sure I had everything I needed.
Very nice place . Up keep of it is out standing
Best of the best make sure you eat at latitudes
Kind of look great but dont touch. All private.
Wow, no words can describe the beauty and magic of this place...A must to go place in keywest
Great place...good food...ambience...service!
On behalf of the entire Brewer family, definitely a five star rating. Impeccable customer service. We stayed four nights in a 3 bedroom cottage. Our expectations were easily exceeded. Not only a great place to vacation and get away, but the Sunset Cottages also support a non-profit Troop Rewards program for recently deployed military members and their families.Once again, a huge thank you to all of the staff and to Sunset Cottages for a wonderful vacation! Highly recommended.
Great place had lunch it was great
World class resort
Loved this place. Great clean comfortable place
Best place to stay while in key west area. Very friendly staff and great service. Loved it! Place is exactly as you see it in pictures when you google it.. beautiful.Cool white sand beach, beautiful cottages with great amenities and with great view. Quite and peaceful atmosphere.Enjoyed the complementary breakfast delivered at the door, as well as complementary cheese tray, chocolates and other treats for my wedding anniversary was a very sweat gesture.Dinner from latitude was also great. Made by accommodating our special request on how we like our food, and served at the cottage we were in.
Beautiful location, and friendly staff. 1 staff member during our stay wanted to leave early apparently and told us the kitchen at the pool bar closed at 530 and refused to serve us even though it was clearly posted as 6 and other staff members confirmed. And I would honestly plan on bringing toilet paper and paper towels of your own due to the ones provided are gas station bathroom quality (which was shocking When you look at how expensive it is to stay!). When. Bringing these concerns to the concierge attention I got radio silence.
Was very excited to stay at the resort because of the location. The first room we checked into had water damage and mold present. They said they would send someone immediately to the room. After waiting over 30 minutes. We called again and no one came. After waiting an additional 15 minutes. We went to the front desk to talk to the manager. He was the nicest person and upgraded our room. Unfortunately the room we received the shower wouldnt drain. Also bring your own bed sheets if you stay here. The sheets feel like sandpaper. Wouldnt recommend the place to anyone. Great view, but there are plenty of hotels around.
Thank you Eugeniu! The beach service is great because of you!
Having spied this resort on a previous visit while dining at Latitudes, I decided to book there this time, and was not disappointed. From the private beach bar service (wear water shoes, a bit rocky) to the beautiful pool, also with a bar, to the cozy cottage, I really couldnt ask for more. You have complete solitude, if required, or the ability to take the very short ferry trip almost to Duval and all the shopping. The service was impeccable. The resort manager came by once while at the pool and asked about our stay, wanting to be assured that we were happy. Really, my only complaint was that I was leaving far sooner than I wished. Latitudes is their kitchen for in room and resort dining, and theres no way to go wrong there. Conch cakes. I ate them every day. I salivate thinking of them now. Be sure to get your breakfast basket filled with pastries and fruit off of your porch as soon as delivered, or the insanely smart birds there have figured out how to remove the securely fastened lid. I lost a croissant my first morning! Will be back!
Had a fantastic dinner at the Hot Tin Roof. There were 8 of us and we enjoyed a variety of unique refreshing cocktails. I recommend the Sunset Cooler. Each entree was perfect and incredibly delicious. And the view of a beautiful sunset was amazing.
Very nice and relaxing. Our children sent us for a great Christmas present. The staff was very accommodating and helpful.
Amazing dinner with a beautiful view of the Key West sunset. This place is mostly full so reserve well in advance if you plan to have dinner while watching the sunset. Service was nice. Will definitely go again.
Just a few minutes off the coast of Key West. The stay was not cheap but it was enjoyable.Beware that the majority of the islands area is private and off limits to resort guests. You cant just go about and explore the place. Hotel guests are pretty much limited to the small but quiet beach, the swimming pool, and a tennis court.In-resort dining is very limited as there is only one restaurant with very limited entree selections.
Love this island....its like a home away from home staying here is truly the best. Nothing like it. Great cottages, latitudes restaurant with its awesome food just makes it all the better.
Our stay at Sunset Key Cottages was top shelf. The grounds are stunning, the cottages are immaculate, and personnel not only met expectations but exceeded them. Kendra, our concierge, was a dream; she had a wonderful attitude and was very informative.
Personally I think this is one of the best spots to stay in Key West. The standard rooms are great, and we upgraded to the suite and thought it was excellent. The views dont get any better from this location. Cruise ships will come in from time to time, but relax, they have to leave by 5:00pm by law so they dont block the sunset. I think its only couple days a week they are even there. I guess its the sacrifice you pay for being in the best location on the island. The private island is awesome if you are looking for a quiet time on the beach. Sure its $20.00, but well worth it. There arent many beach spots on this island, and this is arguably the best one.We stayed here with three kids under 10 years old, and they had plenty to do. They pool was fine for them (not a big resort pool you may be accustomed to), they enjoyed it, and frankly we spent more time at the private beach and site seeing. If you are here for business, the business center is very accommodating (I used it often), and the meeting rooms are excellent. We were very happy with the service, the location, the rooms, etc. It doesnt get any better, and would highly recommend you stay here. We will return for sure.On a side note, I did want to mention that the Front Desk Supervisor, Al D., made sure our stay was top notch. He went out of his way to make sure we were happy (and we arent anyone special). He was like that with just about every guest I saw him interact with. I would call him direct if you need anything done, he is obviously a very dedicated and proud Starwood employee.
I was really impressed with how relaxing this stay was, we rented. a three bedroom which had everything you need to keep your family comfortable and a view to die for
Fantastic vacation at this property.
It is advertised as a Luxury Hotel which it is not. The cottages are roomy and have great views, but luxury does not include stained carpet, cheep furniture that was chipped and chipped tiles in the bathroom. The cottage has three wall unit ACs that were noisy and interrupted our sleep. The pool is so so with no view of the ocean. The staff there are great, food is great but not top luxury as they say. The location is the very best you can get in Key West.
We had room number 134. It is,a lovely loft room but a bit small and the ceiling height may be an issue if you are claustrophobic. It is well appointed and comfortable. I am sure that the other rooms do not have these issues. A definite return.
Wow just wow
Its a really beautiful place with great staff, great food, and lots of privacy. The multi bedroom cottages have separate doors for each bedroom which is nice. You can only access the island via the Westin resort which is confusing and their staff didnt really seem to have it together. The boat ride is a cool feature unless you barely miss it and need to wait 30 minutes for the next one.If youre looking to be segregated from the ruckus of key west while still being able to hop over and enjoy it when you like, this is an awesome place.
Latitude was the perfect place to have a romantic date. Sat outside next to the beautiful beach and sipped on delicious margaritas. The waiter Eddie was perfect and recommended the best items on the menu and was an all around joy. Get the fish tacos, Im not exaggerating when I say they are to die for.
Super nice cottage area. Situated right next to the beach. Get your reservations early
This place is amazing. Latitudes had the best food. The island is calm and relaxing and the staff will do anything to make your stay the best!
What a great place to get away to.It was beautiful and right across the street from the water.
The most relaxing place Iβve ever been. Iβve been coming here for 15 years and still itβs the only place I can completely disconnect.
My fiance and I had drinks at the bar. It was super clean and all the staff were professional and accommodating. Definitely will be back.
Really enjoyed my visit this past February (02/27-03/01/12). The location of Westin Key West couldnt be better; its right on the water and near the center of activity in Mallory Square. We watched the amazing sunset (which is a must) and also got see Dominique and his magic cats! Its kinda awesome to walk around the hotel area with a cocktail in hand. Theres plenty of nearby dining choices (seriously, everything is within walking or biking distance) but Bistro 245 is also very good. Spent the mornings there over their oatmeal & coffee while I worked. Next time I visit Key West I am definitely staying here.
We visited this place for a week from the Uk after travelling all around Florida.Absolutely amazing place the staff are also first class.
Fantastic week stay in Key West! We were there for meetings but still had time for a few sunset views on our private balconies (yes 2). Great staff, meeting rooms, beds, cleanliness, all great!
Beautiful place to see sunset, have dinner, enjoy a cocktail and listen to live music. Friendly staff, good healthy food and friendly priced. Their coleslaw is really amazing! Home made, youve got to try it!
One word to describe this place. PARADISE!
So we stay here all the time. Many times a year. One time the lever broke off of the shower. They said they were at capacity just let the shower run the wheel time you are here and use the other one??This time my wife and I were ate up by bed bugs. Wanted to move to another cottage and the fought us.I am never looking for a discount just clean fair service. They made me feel like I was lying and wanted us to mauve back in the room with bed bugs.I am cancelling my trip next week and will never stay here again. My favorite place but chewed up by bed bugs???All done here they checked and said there were none. Wish I would post a p of myself and my wife along with the dirty matress that was full of urine stains and debri, when I pulled the mattress cover back.Gross I am do e here, mostly die to disreaprspect.
Went for brunch. Beautiful view, with tropical Hawaii-like resort feel. Quinoa pancakes were tasty with an interesting texture. Plentiful outside seating - definite must when the weather is nice.
One of the best experiences Ive had at a resort. Employees were very courteous, resort was clean, and the cottages were amazing. Hope to come back in the future!
Sunset Key is amazingly beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing. Its a feeling of being in the Caribbean with out the hassle. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to returning next year.
Close to the action but very exclusive because of location. Reasonably priced food and drinks, simple menu (for lunch anyway) with a good variety of options. You cant beat the views if you sit outdoors. Service was excellent.
Thie resort is absolutley fantastic! From the staff to the cottages, eveyrhing was great. The restaurant on property was also outstanding, especially Bryan, our server. Everyone was extremely friendly and more than accommodating regardless of the request. They really go above and beyond. Well be making this an annual getaway with our good friends for many years to come. Thank you Sunset Cottages for a very memorable vacation!
Date night time a thousand!... Thats not what I did but if you want to watch the sunset while sipping on a glass of wine with your significant other this will be engraved as a cherished memory never to be forgotten.
It was pleasant. Affordable. Beautiful sunset
Amazing !!!
Beautiful location, beautiful site, food was very good. I ate breakfast there and would definitely go back.
